I don't usually review places but thought i'd leave one as I tried a takeaway from this place despite the rating being particularly low on google (risky in my books!) but glad I did, as the food was insanely good value for money. Much cheaper than any other curry houses in the area, and very speedy and tasty food. Even some extra free food given to us too! 20% off collection is great. thank you

It's been more than 1.5 hrs and my food still hasn't arrived (just a main and nothing else). It remains to be seen if it will by the time my review submits through the chasm of phone signal.

Having just moved to the local area, Bristol Raj is my closest Indian Restaurant so I have been there a few times now. The food has been top quality and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Thoroughly recommended.

3 Raj Curry houses in Bristol and this was bottom of the list. An average curry, they seemed to of replaced salt with sugar in all of their dishes. Wouldn’t return again but not a disaster.

Have been to the Raj a number of times before over a few years and enjoyed the atmosphere and food very much thus the return visit with friends for a treat Indian meal. We were surprised that on a Thursday night it was almost empty. It quickly became obvious that they were very short staffed, both in the kitchen and at table. We were made welcome but had to wait to order anything at all. We waited an hour and a half for our mains. The starters were the best part of the meal. Sadly our mains were luke warm and not the special food the menu, and our previous experience had led us to expect. We were sad that we didn't get the good food and service of previous visits and hope they can fix whatever is not working

Once again my friends and I visited this Bristol restaurant, and once again we were not disappointed. Great food & super friendly service. The onion bhajis were a particulate good. We'll be back

Asked the bloke for a napkin and he said no. Eventually he found something. The food came and it was OK but the samosas were just like the frozen ones I've bought from the Eastern supermarket. The dishes had some OK moments, but I won't be going back. The atmos was murked by the noisey phone ring tone that rang and was like really loud . No one else was in the place. Come on guys please make it a bit better,your chef has skills but the vibes are done.

I’ve been visiting this restaurant for over 10 years and never been disappointed, my job has changed and I won’t be visiting Bristol anymore and I’m gutted I won’t be here again. Food and service excellent but have to say really disappointed no draft Indian beer, waiter said they might have some nexus week, not really acceptable. First time I have ever experienced this but have to be honest when writing a review

We hadnt been here for a good few years but used to be regulars when we lived on Alma Vale Road. We walked in last night to get a take away, orrdering a Chicken Bom and a King Prawn Jalfry with Garlic and Mushroom rices, two plain and two spicy popadoms. The service was good and the food arrived quickly and was hot. Both curry dishes were a bit bland with little depth to the flavours and were far to oily to be enjoyable. The spiced podadoms werent cooked but the rices, whilst a little oily were fine with a good balance of teh respective garlic and mushroom. We are glad that we didnt dine in, the decor is tired and teh table settings uninspiring. Overall just an average experience for us. Because of the blandness and consistency of teh main dishes we didnt find that the Bristol Raj offered good value for money

WOW so disappointed. Requested 2 Lamb Tika Masala. GOT Chicken Tikka Masala. Approx 4/5 small pieces Chicken, & watery sauce. Bland taste. Keema Nann ranking of Cheezy smell & sickly (BINNED). USED to love their Food. We will just say this to finish, never go there again.

We visited the Bristol Raj for a Mother’s Day meal with the Memsaab and heiress to the family fortune. It had been a long while since we had visited and I’m delighted to report that we had a great evening. The food was great: delicious, well spiced and nicely presented. The service was quick without being rushed and indeed we were asked whether we would like a break between courses. This was much appreciated. As well as various starters we had a chicken dhal masala, prawn dhansak and chicken korma with rices and naan. All were tasty and the naan was excellent. Well done Bristol Raj on turning out some lovely food this evening

Stumbled across this restaurant while looking for somewhere to eat, down stairs and was not sure, but what a brilliant surprise!! The best Indian food we had tasted in a very long time, the staff were really friendly and the food was amazing, great value for money and we highly recommend

In my opinion the best Indian takeaway in the whole of Bristol and amazing value for money. Furthermore if you opt to collect instead of delivery then you receive a 20% discount.

Cheap and cheerful, with tasty food!

We booked for 15 people, turned up and they’d given our table to another group - fair enough, everyone makes mistakes… but when we arrived they tried to lie about what happened and were generally rude, if they’d apologised and been courteous they’d have three stars, but sadly not. We had to leave and order pizzas at home.

Delivery through Uber Eats. The large order was not received. The restaurant was not interested and stated that they would not help with my complaint as the order had been picked up by the delivery driver. I do not know if this was the case, as it never reached me. So I cannot comment on the quality of the food. As we did not get to try it. Now have to spend time trying to get a refund. Maybe they should rethink using UberEats as a delivery company and should own a customer complaint and not pass the buck. I felt the restaurant was dismissive and rude when I called them.

Staff were lovely and we really enjoyed the food. The poppadoms were good, obviously fresh oil, the dips were nice, good lime pickle and proper chunks of mango in the chutney. The main dishes were all great, Vegan Sister very happy with her Onion Bhaji starter and vegetable Biryani. I had Tandoori Prawn Jalfrezi and Matar Paneer, all good tasty and flavoursome. It was my first visit and I will definitely go back.

Food is okay, staff are very rude, won't be going back. We were asked to leave as the table had a booking when the place was virtually empty. We walked past later and the place was still empty and our table had nobody sitting at it. My advice, find somewhere that wants your custom and wants you to come back

Ordered through deliveroo. Vegetable rice had a bone in it. The salad was just thrown in a plastic bag! Worst deliveroo experience to date by far!

Always enjoy a curry from Bristol Raj. Friendly service and good food

I'm really not a fussy eater, but given that the order came to a total of £31, we expected the food to atleast seem fresh (even if not), hot, returant standard quality & packaged semi-neatly.... we wont be buying from here again, here's why: - Tandoori selection did not look half as fresh as the image on the app & the texure was dry as if it was over cooked or reheated. Also, a good handcul of onions covering the top, to the point we had to remove the onions to know what it was. - chips were soaked in oil and cold. - salad came in a small white plastic bag with the handles tied (a small version of the kind of carrier bags you'd collect food in from a takeaway); and only included one single, quarter slice of tomato, 1 slice of cucumber, quarter lemon and plenty of grated iceberg lettuce....... - the curry sauce tasted watered down and could clearly see a layer of oil - too much oil, again! - Chicken Biryani rice texture was like value supermarket rice... I assume it was probably reheated, and perhaps why the texture seemed so cheap and spoiled.

The Bristol Raj has now re-opened. This was our first visit after the easing of lockdown but we have been many times before. Firstly, they have deep cleaned and have removed the table cloths so they can wipe down between customers. They wear face masks when serving you and have a visitor book running as required by the policy. The restaurant was sadly empty and needs your support. The food. Sorry to hear previous poster had a bad experience. Honestly, apart from Nutmeg in Clifton, which is significantly more expensive, we find Bristol Raj to be the most consistent and flavoursome. You just need to find your favourites and then you're in curry heaven! We had the Raj Murgh. Yes, it didn't quite meet the description and was sweet, but was full of large pieces of marinated chicken beast and had a tamarind based sauce with fenugreek finish. It has mango chutney in to thicken, not MSG, and tasted lovely. It was mild, not the 2 chilli rating, but they can easily fix that. The best for me is the King Prawn Chilli Chingra Murg (I think it's called that). Large succulent prawns, beautiful sauce laden with finger chilli, it's like a chilli minefield! My fave yet. Drinks. They have Kingisher on tap and also have bottles of other drinks. They are also fine with you bringing your own! In summary, we think the Bristol Raj is far better than others locally. It's a very basic venue but the prices reflect that. You'll get very good quality food and a warm welcome.

The food was excellent and very reasonable prices in Bristol. Being a member of a university sports team I would recommend not going on a Wednesday afternoon haha...

Have been going here for many years and often a pleasant place for an enjoyable curry.BUT avoid when there are large parties of noisy and sometimes appallingly behaved students.

Ordered mixed tandoori, pulao rice and saag aloo. Food was delivered hot, however the mixed tandoori was over cooked, dried and the kebab was not edible! I am disappointed. Food was not fresh and probably heated from lunch time.

Horrible food, no matter what curry you order they all taste the same. Also it has no taste and the vegetables were not cooked or cut right. Putting giant pieces of onion just to make the box fill up. Not enough quantity either for the price.

Una solicitud muy simple de que si algo les ahorra dinero, me cobrarán lo mismo pero no tendré pollo. Un hombre muy grosero me dijo que no estaba permitido y que estaba muy ocupado y que no podía hablar conmigo. Entonces no se me permitió cancelar mi pedido, así que terminé pagando por los alimentos que no podía comer.

Best curry in Bristol in my opinion. And my friend agrees. Being your own beer is an option, so less painful on the pocket too. Love the place. Book a table on weekends to avoid disappointment as it's sometimes booked out.

Curry nights should be pleasurable, our experience here was far from that. It was my friend's birthday so he called in advance to book a table. Upon arrival to the establishment, we were greeted by an incredibly rude man called Deli, who informed us that our booking was not on his records. He aggressively told us that it was us who had made a mistake with the booking. Even after showing him proof of the call he continued to be unapologetic and irrate. We then talked with a manager who reassured us a table would be available in half an hour. 30 mins later we were greeted again by Deli who offered us more abuse. We then decided not to stay. Ruined my friend's birthday. Do not go here.

Fabulous curry, the best in the area. Our go to curry house for the last 2 years. Great value, great choice, really lovely staff and to top it off its bring your own too. The restaurant itself isn't salubrious, but good enough for you to take your parents as the curry is so awesome. The restaurant also does great takeaway for collection and delivery.

This is the first time I’ve ever posted a negative review and I hate doing so. We were regulars as this is our local curry house and used to be amazing under the eye of Mr Raj. However it is now under different management. The service is frankly dreadful. We’ve tried several times in the hope we’d just been unlucky. The manager is overbearing and has a bad attitude. They’re now charging corkage which is fine, but we ended up getting our own glasses because nobody bothered to go and get them ... despite there only being one other couple in the restaurant. On another occasion the manager got into an argument with my wife because she had dared to grab a knife from an empty table, ours being one short. “I told you I’d get you one!” he announced. Well that was ten minutes previously. We are now walking up the hill to the Urban Koori Noor. We’d much rather stick with Bristol Raj because (a) we like supporting local places; (b) it’s closer; (c) it’s cheaper. However we are not going to go somewhere that makes us feel uncomfortable.

We ordered a curry, with the estimated time of delivery as 30 mins. After 2 hours we were told "it takes time" and "it's too busy". The staff were incredibly rude. SO UNRELIABLE. Would never go for them again. COMPLETELY RUINED OUR EVENING.

Vine aquí con un amigo hace 2 semanas y quedé muy impresionado desde el principio con la cálida bienvenida que recibimos. Fue un miércoles por la noche tranquilo y el personal fue muy atento y amable en todo. Cuando llegó nuestra comida, también me impresionó el generoso tamaño de las porciones, especialmente porque los precios eran muy buenos. La comida era deliciosa y espero volver pronto!

I’ve reviewed this small restaurant before but felt the need to write again after our latest visit. It offers the best value in Bristol bar none. My wife and I had poppadoms and a pickle tray, lamb sagwala, aloo gobi, brinjal bhaji, a peshwari naan and a tandoori roti for less than £20-just amazing. Yes it’s BYO and the decor isn’t amazing (don’t eat downstairs...) but the cooking is really excellent. We’ve eaten at all the posh curry houses-Nutmeg, Urban Tandoor, the Mint Room etc etc-and the experience is excellent but the food at this place for the price paid is simply outstanding. Visit it.

High quality curry, particularly recommend the dopiaza. Important to know that it is Bring Your Own Beer so make sure you bring a good lot of alcohol if you want to take advantage of this.

I went to this restaurant to use my groupon voucher I received as x mas gift. The voucher had a cash value of £37.40. The groupon said hand over before ordering food, so we did ! When we did the waitress told us we shouldn't be using this on a weekend cause they want the tables for cash paying customers ! And said we should have said over the phone. No where on this voucher does it say that. Just that you should produce before ordering. I found it very rude to do this to us in a restaurant full of customers. She was acting like we was getting a freebee, when my partners aunts paid nearly £40 cash for this ! We was told we could stay this once ! Well I'll tell you, we won't be returning ! Disgusting way to treat PAYING customers. Don't be on groupon if you don't like customers using it !

I had been told that this restaurant was well worth a visit and whilst it was alright it wasn’t as good as I had been led to believe.

A friend and I went in on a whim the other week and although the restaurant was quiet, we were given a very friendly service.

I have been here a couple of times and the food and service is always great! Tasty, fresh, and warm food whether you sit in or take away!

Not a good takeaway at all and there are certainly much better to be found in and around Clifton. Popular with students due to the BYO policy they have. Been here a couple of times due to it's proximity to our house and we regret it each and every time. The standard of cooking and/or ingredients is very low; wife's chicken korma has tasted like tinned chicken soup and their tikka masala is way off. There's often weird shouting from by the bins out the back toward closing time which is odd.

Visited restaurant on sat 4th Nov I felt I was very rushed and hoovered over I ordered popadoms and I had only ate one when my starter arrived being a small table the waiter tried to take the remaining popadoms and pickles away which I was paying for... when I finished my starter the fork had just hit the plate and was taken away not even a have you finished I was still chewing... so we could have a conversation with our meal we delayed in ordering our main... when mains were served it came quick also I had put the food onto my plate but left some sauce in the bowl as I like to put my bread around it within seconds it was taken away again not asking if I had finished :( the lamb was chewy the chicken was dry popadoms not crunching also we had to pay £17 for wine which is only £4 in the super market the toilets and decor is in need of refreshing and the waiters need to just let u talk and eat and not make you feel rushed ... also may I add while I was eating this plug in air freshener kept going off in the end I asked for them to take it out as that was the taste left in my mouth ... I won't be going back sorry

I have dined at the venue many times and order take away on a regular basis. The food has always been of high quality, fresh ingredients and finely cooked. The portions are generous and the staff are very courteous and kind. On several occasions they have given discounts or have added extra side dishes, dips and salad on top of my order. I highly recommend the Bristol Raj to anyone wanting to try Indian food in Bristol.

This is our local curry house and it really is excellent. It's BYO and popular with local students but offers excellent value for really good food. Hidden gem.

If you want to taste real taste of Indian specially Bangladeshi food then this should me be on top of your list !! Their reception is awesome and the hospitality is mervelous . They have more than 100 items of food so you get variety of choices . And another thing is you don't need to pay much comparing other restaurants !! On top of everything you will get 20% on takeaway and 10% on sitting in if you got student or NHS card ! There's also private function room available if you want to have a private fuctinon with your friends,family and love ones without disturbance . This was my experience and I'm sure you will find the same !! Cheers

Went to the Bristol Raj for a meal with another couple for my birthday. Although the food was lovely and competitively priced, we all spent the whole meal feeling like the staff were trying to get rid of us. They even brought the bill before we asked for it. Something which I think is bad restaurant etiquette. Think I'll stick to my local from now on ....

We'd left it a bit last minute to book the Bristol Raj (busy week and spontaneity got the better of us) but they were luckily able to fit us in and I'm so glad they did! The service was efficient despite the evidently busy parties they were serving, and the food was incredible. I had the Korma, he had the tikka masala and we each had a pilau rice and shared a peshwari naan - one of the fluffiest ones I've ever eaten! We will definitely by returning

We did not realise how popular the Raj was so were turned away on our first attempt as the restaurant was fully occupied, which made us even more determined to experience this restaurant, so we made a booking ahead of time for the following night. We were certainly not disappointed - all the dishes were very well prepared, fresh ingredients, subtle flavours, diverse and authentic. The ambience was lively and yet intimate and the service was most attentive and friendly. Glad we persevered, as good Indian restaurants are hard to find in Holland, where we live.

Absolutely awful takeaway. Delivery estimated 45mins - 1h max. Food arrived at 1hr 40 mins. Missing part of the order and the curry we did receive was like dishwater. Phoned for refund for items missing which was declined and I was told the reason was that 'it was a Saturday' and they are busy with only one driver - however this does not excuse the missing items, substandard food and poor customer service. We will never use this 'restaurant' again.

Best Indian in clifton . Always very welcoming. Polite staff and great service . Food always excellent . I have been going with friends and family once a month for years now and have never been disappointed. Have had several private parties in the function room . Top marks guys .. :-)
