Brightside Roadside Dining Saltash in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Don't get me wrong the food is exceptional, if a little overpriced but the service today was not the standard I have come to expect from Brightside. I normally have a burger which are out of this world but upon arrival we were not allowed to sit on a table of our choice although they were empty as they didn't have napkins on. We choose 4 different tables before the waitress allowed us to be seated. Then they took 25 mins to bring our coffee which was barely warm and 35 mins to bring our food. The waitress we had seemed to be on a different planet and not very "with it" and seemed to make a problem when they wasn't one. However, please don't let this put you off as the food is delicious and normally the service is better. Hopefully next time we will be treated a little better upon arrival.

Really struggling with some of these reviews. For me a really good traditional Diner. Fantastic burgers with real hand crafted patties, a brilliant milkshake and 70s themed. It does what it said on the tin it’s a proper Diner with good quick service and a proper Diner menu. Loved the music too.

Very welcoming staff. Service excellent and with a smile. Food very enjoyable PLUS an excellent gluten free menu using quality products. Had sausage baps for breakfast and fish and chips in the evening.

Excellent food and service. Very quiet for a bank holiday but to our advantage as meals came out very quickly and were delicious

Absolutely loved this place! The food was amazing! I had the vegetarian breakfast, which at other places I find a bit lacking in flavour. However, here it was the best I have tasted in a long time. Service was fast and friendly, the staff are very obviously happy in their job and take pride in their workplace. Absolutely worth a visit!

An amazing place to eat and relax and with a full gluten-free menu. I thoroughly enjoyed the meal, and the young lady and man/ staff were a joy to talk to . Nothing too much trouble. There are disabled toilets. So much more space than when it was Route 68 diner. And a decent sized outside dining area. Definitely recommend 👌

Gluten free menu! I had a breakfast hash... my God, what a dish! Ridiculously good This place is a destination for me; not a compromise road cafe. Diner booths for privacy, solid wood floors, outside dining, loads of parking, really nice staff, amazing extensive gluten free menu, soya milk lattes, clean toilets and even a USB charger in the booth for me to work! I absolutely LOVE this place! I will prioritise coming back again ❤️

So impressed! This is not just a big gimmick. Staff were friendly and attentive and the food was great. And it was the small things that made a difference, like someone bringing water for our dog without being asked. Also impressed to see how you reply to all your reviews, with personal responses not just an automatic one.

Didn’t expect much from this place, was just tired and hungry. BUT !!!! The decor was super nice, and it was very clean. The staff was amazing, and the food was next-level 11 out of 10. Can’t wait to be back

Great food, great service, went 3 days in one week! I had something different each time and it's was all really nice. Great if you want a breakfast early afternoon because they keep a lot of their breakfast menu going all day.

Yeah I'm currently homeless at the minute but I didn't get treated any differently I've felt very welcome I had two milkshakes they were that good xx

Can't fault the staff great attitude, my 9 year old insisted on replacing the naan with the curry with pancakes and they did it! All credit and it works really well, new menu item? Thanks! Ate here again great staff and food brilliant! Sat in the garden it's lovely in the afternoon sun

Wow - blown away by the quality of the food at what I assumed would be a greasy roadside diner. Amazing non-tacky decor and restaurant quality food. Icing on the cake was Sadie our waitress who was so friendly and great with the kids. A very pleasant surprise - 10/10

Very quiet place on the day I was there. Staff super friendly and attentive. Ordered drinks and thankfully noticed that the milk wasn't oat milk( i did ask when I ordered ), food was great. Decor is nice but a bit drab for me.

Really delicious food, prompt and friendly service, even my children ate their whole meal which is really saying something!! Loved the decor and music! We really enjoyed our visit. We will definitely be back!

We stopped here after a day at the zoo on my daughter’s 4th birthday for dinner. The staff were amazing, quick service. My daughter loved doing the Easter hunt around the restaurant whilst we were waiting for our food and once we got our food we were amazing at how nice everything was! My parents had the smash burgers and said they were the nicest burgers they have ever had. I had a super tasty pizza (my daughter pinched two slices it was so nice! The children loved their meals and my husband said his chicken burger was amazing! The children were also very happy with their free ice creams from completing the Easter egg hunt! A huge bonus for us though was when my husband asked if they could put a little candle on the ice cream for my daughters birthday they came and sang happy birthday to her, gave her a birthday card from the staff and even took a picture of us from a vintage Polaroid camera! She was so excited and loved the card and picture! It was such a lovely and special experience and we will 1000% recommend the restaurant to everyone and we WILL be going back!!

My husband and me have had breakfast at Brightside several times now. Food is fantastic, good quality ingredients, cooked well and you don't have to wait long. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble. Great interior and always clean. If you haven't eaten there yet it's well worth going.

Warm welcome, delicious food ( ham (belly pork) egg and chips) The CHIPS! OMG best chips I've ever eaten! 10 out of 10 as it was a beautiful sunny evening sat outside which is decorated beautifully. Will definately be back 😊

Fantastic restaurant, wonderful service decor was amazing with a strange 1970's feel quite nostalgic. Food was all well cooked and prepared beautifully. Staff could not be more polite or helpful.

Only stopped for a thickshake but it was very nice. Service was quick and friendly. Reasonably priced.

Great food, service and a great veggie breakfast!

Really great place! We’ve passed by many times but not stopped before; so pleased we did! We were greeted immediately, and warmly; seated on a lovely big table even though just the two of us and our baby. The menu is extensive so we dithered a lot before choosing and the staff were so lovely, didn’t make us feel uncomfortable at all. The food was delicious, and we were checked back on to make sure all was ok. Water was offered which is such a nice touch and appreciated! All staff were brilliant, friendly, welcoming and professional. We will be back for sure.

From the moment we were greeted by the lovely blonde lady when we came in, to the guy who ran our drinks and took our food order, until paying the bill and chatting with the Manager (Bryony I think), all the staff were so friendly and happy, it really made a great meal even better. The food was fantastic and much better than we expected for a roadside American style diner, but then we found out it's run by the same company that owns Cosy Club, so that explains the great food! We'll definitely be back, and keep an eye out to visit other Brightsides as well!

A good spot for breakfast on your way into Cornwall. Very fast service. Decent coffee. Cosy decor and lighting. Car park is a bit tight.

We stopped here completely on a whim passing through for work, thought the place looked interesting. What a wonderful, retro diner, spotlessly clean and with really friendly staff. I had the veggie breakfast, quite possibly the best breakfast I've ever had! Partner had a big breakfast, again absolutely wonderful. I cannot wait to bring my children, they're going to love it!

Stopped in for dinner, had the brisket burger which was very good. The chicken burger and kids meals were also good. The young lady serving (Abigail I think) was absolutely lovely and a real asset to the company. Was very friendly with our toddler and made us feel very welcomed.

Been here a few times and and never been disappointed.

This place is amazing! We were on a couple nights break in Saltash and driving down to Par and saw this on the way. After looking at what was available for some lunch we decided to pop in on the way back. What we found was a very clean, well staffed establishment with deliciously, well-cooked food at a very reasonable price. I had the brisket burger (which was the best burger I've ever had by some margin) and my partner the avocado toast with halloumi (which she said was absolutely delicious) and was all on our table within 10 minutes of sitting down. We love it here and will definitely come again. My only complaint was that there wasn't more food!!

Didn’t know what to expect, but needed lunch in the road and very glad I stopped here. Quick and helpful service, everyone working was happy, burger was fantastic, place was spotless and loved the retro decor. Will come back with family!

Outstanding. We popped here on a whim hoping for some decent milkshakes. We drive past all the time. What we found was great milkshakes, amazing food and fantastic staff. Prefect, calm warm atmosphere. Staff were on hand, helpful and polite. The food was delicious and served quick. Will recommend and will definitely return.

First time here since it changed from Route 38. Much bigger inside and far more tables, booths and outside tables. Food was excellent and very friendly staff. Very impressive first visit. Will defo come again soon ! The burger and fries was £15, the hot BLT was £6.50 and a couple of coffees was £6....so £27 total. Not bad for Cornwall !

Another great family visit for a late lunch. This time we discovered there was a book shelf where children can borrow a book or board game to play at the tables; this restaurant really had thought of so much for the children. The little snack pots that come out whilst you wait for your food are always very welcome. The children’s meals are such great value with the drinks and puddings. And the adults meals as always were super tasty, the hot honey halloumi fries were Devine! The facilities were super clean and the staff very friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. We hope to be back again!

We visited on Sunday lunchtime on a wet a dreary weekend but our meal and the visit definitely brightened up our moods. The staff were lovely and friendly and super helpful. The booth for our family of 6 was perfect. We hadn’t visited since the renovations from what was the older establishment on the site and were blown away by how different it is, such a great 70s style and everywhere was lovely and clean. Our meals were fantastic, we appreciated that each kids meal came with crudités and hummus whilst we waited for our mains to come out. My husband opted for the brisket burger and said it was one of the best burgers he’d ever had. Our waitress felt one out of children’s portions of chips was quite pokey so she brought out a fresh batch of extra chips which was massively appreciated. The kids all enjoyed their puddings as did we. Would definitely recommend whether you’re passing whilst traveling or if you’re local and looking for a new location to try!

Lovely food, I don’t even like pizza, but this pizza was so good. I highly recommend it. Bathroom top notch If I could, I would Six stars top notch bathrooms so cheap five stars

1st time coming here staff were very helpful and polite. It's great that they have a separate gluten free &vegetarian/vegan menu .my son can't have gluten or dairy and the waitress sorted out something that was suitable for my son .the food was lovely. The atmosphere was nice chilled and relaxing. I'm also a crutches user and there was a ramp for me to go up to get in and a fully equipped disabled toilet on ground floor. Also tables spread out so if crutches user or wheelchair you can get around easily. Definitely come here again

Had a great breakfast and our dog was made welcome with a bowl of water and some gravy bones. Staff were really friendly and the food was great. Recommended.

We have stopped here 3 times and every time we were served hot tasty food. Hats off to the chef. The place is bright and clean, the staff friendly and helpful. We can highly recommend it and will be definitely stopping off again on our next trip to Plymouth.

When I went it was a quiet evening, but very pleasant experience all round!

Breakfast was nice, service was lovely. Was told a 30 min wait for food (Saturday around 2pm) but drinks and food arrived within 10 mins of being seated. Had a nice feel to the place.

Food was fresh, tasty and obviously made from quality ingredients. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive.

Very nice food and very flavourful especially the dessert, though wait staff are a little slow but it’s not inconvenient ,a few costumers had there orders wrong but they were quickly token care of but the staff are friendly and accommodating

Extremely good staff here. Nothing to much trouble. Had lovely pizzas, served good and hot. Loos exceptionally clean and nicely decorated. Will go again soon.

Really friendly welcome, quick service and a much needed good breakfast. I left happy and satisfied.

Other similar type restaurants could learn a lot from the Brightside team. This was our second visit and ALL of the staff are outstanding. Friendly, caring and will go out of their way to help. Ofcourse it’s part of the job but it’s a little more special. A little more heartfelt. I hope this is recognised and appreciated internally. If you have food allergies you will be in good hands. It’s the first thing we were asked on both visits. Great food and good value. Higher quality than their peers. Recommend the breakfast. Quality bacon and the Sausages are amazing. Sourdough toast. Brightside care and encourage your feedback to help them grow and improve. We will be back! Thankyou!

Cracking burgers, friendly, attentive service and all round good value for money.

It was incredible! The honey burger and the dirty brisket burger was heavenly! The service was great also and the venue was immaculate! Thank you for a lovely dinner 🍲 Would also highly recommend the vanilla and white chocolate cheesecake!

I Visited today 22/11 with my partner and daughter I used to visit myself quite often through the year a few years back when it was route 38. Due to unforeseen circumstances I was unable to come down in recent years due to personal reasons. We looked online and saw route 38 had gone but decided to visit Brightside anyway, for my daughters 2nd birthday. we are so glad we ate there tonight. as the food was beautiful and piping hot when it arrived. There was also a good selection to choose from. I would also love to mention a member of staff called Ava, she made sure that my 2 year old was occupied with colouring and reading. She was also very helpful with recommendations she asked multiples times how everything was, to make sure it was all okay. upon leaving the restaurant Ava again checked everything was okay, and gave my daughter a parting gift. She was so very thoughtful and it was such a nice gesture. I work as a manager in a customer service role for a large entertainments company, and I can say now I would be so happy if all our staff were like Ava. I will be recommending Brightside to any who mentions they will be visiting Cornwall I will also be revisiting for breakfast before our 300 mile drive home Sunday.

Well worth the time pass. Feel like you in a different time zone from the 70/80's. Elvis is in the Building.........heartbreak hotel x

Wanted it to be more, but food is overpriced and service not great. Had a ‘Dirty Burger’ but the bap was whole meal and not particularly suitable for a ‘diner’ burger. Other meal was a big breakfast but not really worth £16. Waitresses were nice, but a long wait for food and then bill (I think one forgot she was going to get it). Overall not the best. Decor is interesting (think ‘The Shining’ or ‘Stranger Things’. Should be better than this. A diner with an average burger and an overpriced breakfast is not really on.

We were served by Rachel, who was super friendly and accommodating. Food was good but the lovely staff were the best part of the experience.

Well looked after, Treat for our dog, fresh water provided. Breakfast were excellent. Service to be proud of. Ani loves you guys.

I called into bright side to ask if I could use their toilets and asked if they could do a takeaway chips due to waiting for recovery on my car and had a bad experience whilst waiting! The lady very kindly said that it was ok! On my return to order the food I only had £5 with me and they very kindly gave me a meal and a drink on the house for the terrible evening I had! I attempted to offer them the money I had and they refused. I would highly recommend this place! Absolutely lovely staff and very supportive.

One of our favourite family diners when were on holiday in Cornwall, we always pay a visit, Rachel and team are always super lovely and attentive, food is great and the interiors are Wes Anderson meets Stranger Things, the attention to detail is fabulous, including the very retro avocado bathrooms. Highly recommended ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Good quality food and friendly helpful staff. We eat at Lounge bars around the country and we're keen to try this place as it is part of that group. We highly recommend eating here. There are good gluten free options.

We have been here for the past 2 years. Last year we enjoyed it but it seems to have gone a little downhill since then. Coffee was very bitter and I enjoy a strong coffee. I ordered the vegetarian breakfast. 2 little strips of haloumi, potato rosti and whatever else was on. This was definitely not worth what we paid for it. My friend ordered the same and was as disappointed as I was. We will not be returning

First time there. Fast quick service. Plenty of room where you are seated. The only problem was my coffee came out cold. They refunded me and gave me a replacement.👍
