Brightside Roadside Dining Saltash in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

On entering the place we thought we had stepped back to the 1970's. The place looks very dated but I suspect that is by design. The staff are welcoming and the food is freshly prepared to order. We had a small cooked breakfast which was not small but was delicious. No mushrooms but plenty of bacon. Reminded me of the Little Chef restaurants. Good fir families.

Was disappointed with the food. All our steaks were over done. The coffee was Luke warm and my glass was dirty! All the staff recited the same customer service speech word for word which made everything seem insincere. The restaurant at Exeter was excellent very disappointed with this one! There was also a dirty smell by the bar. If I had smelt this first I may not have stayed.

I've lived in the US and this is the closest to an American Diner that I've had in the UK. The food is excellent 👌. All of it. I want everything on the menu every time I come. The service is always top notch (unusual nowadays) with a decent turnaround time. It's a real treat and an absolute jewel in the west country (along with their other locations on Haldon Hill and the A303)

We stopped in here on our way back from St Kew and based on the reviews we weren't really expecting much so we were really pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was clean and well laid out and they have a selection of books and toys available for children. The service was fast and very friendly, the coffee was really nice and the food was all very well cooked and enjoyable. The staff were all really nice and constantly on the move and doing something - when they weren't serving they were cleaning and checking that we had everything we needed.

This was a late night supper after a long drive back to the digs. The food was good and freshly made and the service cheery for a late shift 👌

Lovely staff and we really enjoyed our food.

3 girls at bar no one offered to help the place was mostly empty they wouldn’t let me sit where I wanted around the corner away from people . The chicken was so well done it was dried out and so crispy I couldn’t eat it the chunky chips were so over cooked there was no potato inside I sent them back . Got another pot not much better and they were covered in something sweet. Which was burnt all over these chips every thing so sweet and they charged 17.05 for that . I wish I refused to pay

Burgers were actually very good as was the pizza but very expensive for what it was. Drinks and sides extremely overpriced and luke warm. Service absolutely appalling hence the three stars, mostly run by inexperienced and inattentive kids. Was much much better when it was Route 38.

Beautiful big juicy burgers. Delicious. Waiting staff were very pleasant.

Children's menu was over-priced for the portion my litte boy recieved. His food clearly hadn't been freshly prepared and had been reheated.

Just can't fault it. Had a few meals at bright side and the food is brilliant. Burgers are exceptional, better than a lot of burger places (get the dirty brisket or chicken mac), breakfast was good too.

Excellent atmosphere, warm and friendly service 👌...only draw back for me was I really wanted a hotmeal(rice and curry).. it was available at the time other than that...enjoyed it ✨️✨️✨️✨️💯

Big breakfast nothing like picture in menu. No mushrooms so offered extra egg or tomato. Extra egg didnt arrive or black pudding in picture ? Bacon burnt to a crisp. Sausages tasted horrible. Burger meal , cup of tiny chips burger just looked a mess. Definitely give this place a miss.

Everything was amazing, the bacon and sauages and the eggs was spot on. And the waitresses was really friendly and proper... A big 100% from me... By far better then the old route 38....

Can't fault the staff great attitude, my 9 year old insisted on replacing the naan with the curry with pancakes and they did it! All credit and it works really well, new menu item? Thanks!

Waiters are rude Lie about things as extremely lazy

We stopped here to have breakfast on our way to the monkey sanctuary. From the moment we went inside staff were friendly and very accommodating. One of my children is autistic and can be quite specific about what she needs and wants and staff were adaptable sympathetic and understanding. Food was excellent hot fresh and really good portions and quality.

Absolutely amazing food .. the chef definitely knows how's to cook the best steak and the staff were so friendly .. definitely going again

We love popping into Brightside on our way home from visiting Family in Devon. We recently took our young grand daughter & the staff were very accommodating & friendly. When we left we had accidently left a juice bottle & a lovely staff member came out to the carpark to hand it too us. We have never had a bad experience & would highly recommend a visit.

Just pulled in on the way to Cornwall. What a great find. Food was lovely and the atmosphere is different (seems to be a 70s vibe) but really good.

Where Little Chef meets Stranger Things. An amazing restaurant in a great location. We visited here when it was Route 38 twice before when holidaying in Cornwall, then it was good but this is great. Awesome Interior through even the avacado green toilets, brilliant. Staff lovely and dog friendly. We visited on a Wednesday when it was Kids Eat Free after 3pm which was a nice bonus. Good portions and reasonably priced.

We stopped here for dinner one evening during our family holiday near Seaton/Downderry. We'd visited a couple of years ago and said that we wouldn't return as it was so run down, but saw that it had been taken over by a different company and had been done up we thought we'd give it another go. The interior is so much better, really good job! The staff are lovely and friendly and really attentive, the food however was pretty basic but extremely expensive. For 3 of us to eat a main meal and dessert each, plus 5 drinks it was £93! The most we've ever paid for a meal out! We'd love to return but just couldn't afford it. Big shout out to Sadie who was really friendly and recommended a nice beach for us to visit.

We stopped by for a break on a long drive from Devon to Cornwall. The place was clean and had the feel of a good old-fashioned American Diner. The ladies who greeted us and served us were lovely and friendly. We only got tea to take out as the only bread they had was sourdough, which my partner unfortunately can't eat. The food did look nice, though 😋

Absolutely brilliant food and service provided! We were on holiday and had dinner twice as was so impressed with the standard of food & service. Decor was great and added to the experience.

We've eaten here twice now, and it's so lovely to find somewhere at a service station with a gluten free menu, dog friendly and a really good menu. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable about the menu/allergies etc - perfect for a stop off before heading into cornwall, and equally for their Tuesday pizza club in the week for locals. Highly recommend 👌

Stupidly ordered American pancakes, why do places serve these when they are nothing like the real thing. Ok you so this is the uk we serve them differently. That I can live with but over £10 for cold stale, dry, pancakes out of a packet is just wrong at least have the decency to actually make the pancakes ! They take 5mins on the hob. Gave it a try but never again if you cannot make a pancake I don’t trust you with anything else. Only gave one star as there is nothing lower.

Don’t normally write reviews but we had a meal at Brightside earlier today. The place was spotlessly clean, the staff were excellent, the food was amazing and very well priced. We had two young children with us. The front of house staff were great offering toys and things to keep them happy. Credit where credit it due. We will 100% be back again. Great experience 👍👍

We loved our first visit to a Brightside restaurant. It replaced a much loved venue at Route 38 for our regular Cornwall visits. We were greeted by a friendly team who were welcoming and helpful. Food was quick and delicious. We will definitely go back next time we are in Cornwall.

After driving near enough 5 hours down, looking for somewhere to eat dog friendly on a Sunday evening without knowing the area & doing research we stopped at Roadside Brightside. The lady who served us (didn’t catch her name unfortunately) she was AMAZING! Bought our dog some treats over, bought him water, made sure we had everything we needed. She was all round just wonderful, she also just looked so happy, friendly & welcoming! We weren’t expecting Michelin star food, just wanted something yummy to feel our tummy’s! The honey in halloumi was amazing! Wonderful run restaurant & the decor was pretty cool too! Thank you!

Lovely, friendly staff. It was clean and the decor was set up like an American diner. The food was tasty, hot and thr portion size was good.

We live local,and this the first and last time we will visit, I ordered a all day breakfast at £11.95,The toast was terrible it was like it had been dropped in a vat of oil,the one sausage was under cooked,the bacon was ok,you get beans and one mushroom,and the fried egg was over cooked.overall terrible for the money.

Very tasty food,excellent staff and very clean, good parking spaces. They don't accept Blue light,NHS or Veterans cards though

Another great experience here took family who are staying and the service and food was as lovely as ever. Rachel is the best hostess and the reason we keep going back.

We'd visited previously but hadn't been aware of the refurbishment. Can't say we were disappointed as service / staff were second to none, Amazing. The food was great and well priced. Think 70s throw back, valour, flares, and your kinda in the right ball park. Free parking with good access. Highly recommend, you won't be disappointed

We went in and were seated swiftly, after 15 minutes of staff chatting and not being served we decided to leave this was at around 2:00pm on 12/07/24. We were really disappointed as we love the one near Exeter.

Wow, what a find. Our usual stop not open so decided to try here. It will now be our go to place. Very clean and tidy. Waitresses a delight. Food delicious at very reasonable prices. Best chips we've ever tried

Absolutely awful experience, food shocking compared to the old route 38, waited nearly 20minutes for my drinks order (2drinks). Certainly won't be returning.

Had a lovely cheese and bacon burger topped off with a banana milkshake, excellent, friendly helpful service,nice and clean, plenty of parking,would recommend and return.

This was our first visit and won’t be the last. We were knocked out by the amazing decor to begin with. It has a cool 70s vibe, which I have to admit experiencing the first time as a child . The diner captures it so well - except that the food is so much better than I remember ever having in the 70s. Every member of my family enjoyed the food and can’t wait to go back. I must especially thank the staff for their attention to detail as I requested a gluten free meal. Nothing was too much trouble and I can’t remember having such a great tasting gluten free meal.

Lovely place to visit with family and friends in a relaxed setting, staff always lovely and helpful. Lots of options food wise and dairy free/vegan options , recommended either pancake options and the iced coffees 😁 spaces for disabled persons parking , is accessible via slope + ground floor loo.

Road side diner done out in a seventy’s style right down to the avocado toilets! Nice food and coffee, large portions fantastic!

What a fabulous place. Decor great. Food amazing, had a breakfast, have to say it's one of the best I've ever had! The staff were so lovely, friendly and helpful. The only down side is we're on holiday and can't unfortunately be back on a regular basis.

Absolutely loved this Diner. The first visit was for ice cream sundaes which were lovely. Our second visit was to eat dinner ..... the best meal I've had in ages. Would recommend and the staff were really great. Next time in the area, definitely a visit. Just love the place.

just finished our burgers with chunky chips and they were fantastic. we had the smash burger with smokey cheese and brisket and it was so succulent and juicy. The chips were fluffy and crunchy just perfect. Emma and Ava were so friendly and attentive. We was expecting a basic burger but the quality of food was gourmet. Keep up the great standard.

What a great place. Fast service,.nice cosy booth to sit in. USB charging points throughout the restaurant. Good tasty burgers and fries. Toilets clean. Nice experience.

Food took ages to turn up, very poor portions for the price. Beans were so cold I think they were heated up last week

Wonderful little diner (definitely blows the former route 38 out of the water), dog friendly in certain parts of the diner, friendly staff, food and drinks are a little towards the pricier side of things but the quality is there to back it up! Went a couple of weeks back with the niece and nephew who were kept happily entertained throughout the duration of our meal.

First time in a Brightside diner and loved it. The decor was so retro it was fab. The service was excellent and a great breakfast.

A chilled, calm atmosphere. Lovely range of food offered. I had pancakes with bacon, wish there was more bacon with the pancakes but other then that, it was great. First place I know to have a children's bookshelf with many books to entertain kids which was great as I have a toddler.

One of the Best breakfasts I have ever had whilst travelling down through Cornwall luckily I had to go down again 2 days later so had to have another one, staff are really polite, friendly and cheerful, need to find a reason to go back down to Cornwall

I loved the atmosphere in the restaurant, in a strange way, it reminded me a bit of The Little Chef from back in the day! Maybe it was the avocado suite and yellow tiles in the gents, the No: 7 bus seating, or the Seventies music. Oh, the food, yeah, forgot, it was lovely, a tad expensive maybe but sure hearty fare. Steak and eggs for breakfast, what's not to like. I'll deffo eat at another Brightside on one of my regular trips down that way. 👍

Staff were so friendly and efficient and the food was delicious. Highly recommend the salmon fishcake with tartare sauce and broccoli.

Driven past many times but never thought to pop in, what a gem. Nothing special on the menu, pretty standard selection, but the quality is outstanding. You have to try the lemonade coolers too, amazing!!! On a truly roasting day the restaurant was bright and cool, just what we needed after a day on the beach.

We came for food today for my son's 18th birthday, well what a disappointment, service wasn't great, the food was awful, waste of £65, I asked for original coca cola, was given a glass of cheap cola that clearly had sweeteners in, ordered a latte instead, that was awful, latte is supposed to be a milky coffee, it was so strong even my partner thought it was awful and yes im a trained barista so know what coffee is supposed to be like, we saw our food on the side waiting to be brought to our table, we waited, we waited some more, when it was finally brought over it was lukewarm, my son's and partners burger was so greasy they both felt sick afterwards, I had a chicken burger and there was more bun than any filling, it was the smallest chicken breast I have ever seen, we all had about 10 chips each on the plate that were cold because it had been sat there so long waiting to be brought to our table, my 2 yr olds fish fingers and chips were awful, the fish fingers were greasy, over cooked and rubbery, portions were so small and to top it off, dogs were allowed in, 🤢🤮, whatever happened to food and hygiene, I do not want to eat any food with the smell of wet dog wafting past, needless to say we won't be going here again

What a find this place is! Stopped on the way home for breakfast. I cannot explain how a breakfast can put such a smile on your face. I was genuinely taken aback how nice the champion breakfast was. Service was second to none and the most genuine I've had for ages. Don't drive past, drop in. You won't regret it!!

The staff were so incredibly kind and friendly, and the food was perfect. We loved the sunny garden out the back and we will definitely be back!

Food really good but service really isn't good. Been here twice and been sat in a booth. The booths are a nice place to sit and decor is interesting but on both occasions they've forgotten that we're sat there and been left waiting ages for service as they can't see you in the booth. Last visit it was 35 mins after we had finished eating before we managed to get the attention of staff! Some people sat outside who got their meals at the same time of us finished desserts, coffees and paid all before anyone came to clear our meal plates. Rather frustrating when you have a child with you. The food is really good, really like the retro theme, it's just the service just really needs to be really tightened up to make this place really great.

Found this by chance when travelling, it was really nice, fast and efficient service, the coffee was great and the smash burger was absolutely amazing, arguably one of the best burgers I've ever had! Shoutout to Rachel who was so warm and friendly. Look forward to coming back :)

A pleasant family experience with good quality food, friendly, helpful staff and a reasonable atmosphere.

Sausages and rosti on the breakfast were burnt and rock hard and chicken burger too. We did have partial refund but not hurrying back.

This is the best cafe ive ever been in and im old Spacious interior early 80s style americana decor. An eclectic mix of early 80s music. I had a the best veggie breakfast with cherry tomatoes, avacadoes, as well as the usual in house hash brown, cheese etc. The service was fast and genuinely friendly. A proper eatery

Best atmosphere for a roadside diner. It works much better than the old route 38 diner. I'll sure be back. Highly recommend.
