Brighton Marina Pizza Express in Brighton and Hove

have never seen espresso martini in a gin glass with ice before, waited 15 minutes to get this absolute work of art for almost £9 🙃

Let's start with this: I love pizza ! And I've also visited several branches of Pizza Express. However, the one in Brighton Marina is my worst experience so far. The good: Ellie provided a great service. She was polite, helpful, all in all someone you would like to be served by anytime. The bed - and unfortunately the most important that even a great service cannot compensate - was the food. The daughballs were dry, the pizza was COLD?!?! and the pasta was about ok-ish (not something I would get again. And the time it took to get our food delivered to the table was waaaay too long And all thi, on a Sunday afternoon when the restaurant was half full......

A very happy experience. Food was delicious and the service was more than satisfactory. Our waitress was very polite and kind and couldn’t have been nicer.

Gone downhill, staff did not seem interested. Food took ages to come out, nobody cleared our plates or come to check on us. Feel it's overpriced for what you get.

We have eaten here on several occasions and been very happy. Tonight was the exception , food was very average , starter was not cleared before we received our mains, then only half of our table was cleared before leaving. The staff appeared disinterested and inattentive . We will not be returning.

Food quality is consistently great. Restaurant is always clean & staff are always welcoming. Recommend the mozerella sticks, pollo adastra, spinach and ricotta cannellini & honeycomb slice. Our server Mac was super friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. He made the experience even better by showing such positive regard to us, despite the busy restaurant!

Lovely atmosphere for dinner at the Marina. I recommend the chicken calzone and the mozzarella sticks - delicious! Our server Liam was attentive and very accommodating, continually checked in through our meal. Thank you!

Had a lovely lunch here today. We were served by Joel who was very nice, the food was amazing, and the view was great too!

I work in the marina and the manager from pizza express came by today with food for me and my other colleagues and explained that he wanted to do more for the community by providing lunch for one business per week. Such a thoughtful gesture and definitely boosted morale in my store! The food was absolutely delicious and I couldn't be more grateful to Joel.

Tried to eat here last weekend before going to the cinema. Was told by the girl on the door that we wouldn’t have time as there were delays on food due to being short-staffed. We told her we had over an hour but she insisted we wouldn’t have time. When we looked in there was at most 6 tables eating, with 3 waiting staff and 3 kitchen staff on. Is this really short staffed? Not going back.

One of the most underwhelming Pizza Express where the waiters could see that our waitress was the only busy person on the floor and still would not step up to help. Lots of delays in getting food. Delays in getting our bill. We asked other waiters to assist and they blankly refused saying it was not their zone. What a waste of time. Don’t waste your money here. Food has become very basic and nothing interesting. Lasagna was watery underneath and pizza was okay. So many better eateries around for next time we are here.

We attended your marina pizza express on Monday 29th July and felt so unhappy with the level of service I needed to flag it. We were a table of 4 with one child and were offered any table as it was so quiet. There were a number of waiting staff and ours took our order. The starters came quickly and were fine. We then waited for our mains with our used plates in front of us. We waited a significant amount of time (~30mins) until we started looking around and noticed no chefs were visible, nor cooking anything. We eventually got the attention of another waitress and asked when our mains would be ready. It was obvious they hadn’t put our order through as there was a flurry of activity at the till and the looks on their faces said it all. They didn’t acknowledge or apologise for the delay, nor did they explain what had happened. They informed us the pizzas would be with us in 3 minutes when it took a further 10. It took a couple of minutes for the chefs to reappear. Waiting ~40 mins for a pizza is ridiculous, especially it being so quiet, with a hungry child and when there were 2 chefs and 3-4 waiting staff. The pizzas came and they were nice, but the customer service let the whole experience down. We asked for the bill which we received and our waitress disappeared again. We then saw her chatting to her colleague. We had to ask a blond waitress from another area to help us to pay. Our waitress returned but without the payment machine, so she left again. Tbh, we couldn’t leave fast enough. There was no excuse for such awful and inattentive service. No checks to see if we were happy with the food, no smile from our waitress and a complete disregard to good customer service. In the current climate, great customer service pulls you back in. I assure you, I will be avoiding your restaurant from now on. N.B. Should you read their response below, I did email them and they didn’t reply. Obviously good customer service doesn’t apply here on all levels…

WE have been to this Pizza Express before and never had anything but a very good experience. This time was no exception as we decided to eat our main meal at lunchtime and arrived just after it had opened. we were met by Liam and he was very welcoming, friendly and provided us with great service. The pizzas were cooked to exactly how we like them and were plentiful in fillings and taste, well worth the price. All in all a very happy and enjoyable time. Definitely return when next in Brighton.

We chose this restaurant as they were doing a special offer on pizza. The waiter, Mac, explained we had to get the app to get the deal. He said he would help us do it. However, I was able to get it myself and I like to think he was quite impressed as I am a lady of a certain age 😊 He was a perfect waiter as he was there when we needed him but he didn’t smother us. He was very cheerful and friendly. The food was as good as usual.

Mac was very helpful and nice and easy to order from the lunch menu. Good value and perfect for lunching in the sun with a book.

came for a birthday meal with my ex wife and two young sons (it was the sons birthday). The food was great as usual. However when we got the bill there was an extra pizza added on. when the waitress came with the card machine we told her about the additional pizza and how much the bill should be she just said of course and went off. When she returned she told us that our calculation was wrong and took our payment for a higher amount. We looked at the bill again and realised we had been overcharged again. I went to the waitress and asked if she could explain her calculation to me. I then added that It might have been nice if she had apologised when we pointed out the extra pizza we had been charged for rather than just saying 'of course'. This is when her attitude got really odd, she said she was not going to apologise when she hadnt realised there was a mistake. Further more she started saying that she had been feeling a bad attitude from us when she was walking around serving tables. This is far from the truth, we were enjoying conversation with our young sons. We did have to ask when the pizzas would be coming (after waiting 40 mins - we did have starters in this time though) and also had to ask for a jug of water twice. However we were polite and respectful. When I asked to speak to the manager she said 'you are getting a refund, what more do you want?' The manager was apologetic and reading his reaction I believe he knows that his staff member behaves this way and Im sure its not the first time. It is a shame that the bad attitude of the server spoilt an otherwise lovely evening.

Came in and had a lovely dinner with my family! Our waitress Maxine, was so kind, attentive, and very accommodating (my dad had a leg injury and was in crutches) and she allowed us to sit in a booth. She gave us personal menu recommendations and fast service. The new mozzarella sticks starters and the new margarita Pomodoro was lovely, as well as the new pomegranate margarita which was very refreshing. The new sticky toffee pudding was also delicious. 10/10 experience with service and food and we will definitely be visiting again!

We went into this restaurant as we saw the lunchtime offer. The guy that greeted us explained the offers really well. Our server was Mac and he was absolutely brilliant. He showed us how to download and use the app so we could get the lunchtime deal. He was really patient and really friendly and his customer service was above and beyond. The food was amazing and i can honestly say this is the best Pizza Express I have ever been to and i did say this to the Manager before i left. It was also my birthday the day of my visit and the team at this restaurant made it special. I would highly recommend this location.

What a place. As soon as I walked in I was greeted with the most wonderful smells and the face of a wonderful girl. Ellie, my server graced us with pizzas all night long. Not only this but she sang my 3 year old a beautiful rendition of happy birthday. Above and beyond service!!!! We will be back for my birthday in January 😋

Ellie was her name. What a beautiful girl - inside and out. She is so talented: carrying 6 plates at once and pouring drinks from metres away. She should be promoted to manager straight away, even own the branch!!! Gave me such joy 🤩.

Took the family here recently and loved it, our waitress Ellie was lovely and extremely attentive. She was very kind to us and even made my grumpy husband laugh. Thanks Ellie for giving him one last laugh before I leave him. LOL! Food was as expected but tasted gourmet thanks to serving staff’s politeness - will be returning soon once divorce is finalised x If you ever go here, ask for Ellie.

We ordered calamari for starter which was served after 15 mins and a pizza to share and waited for almost half an hour and it wasn't even that nice. I don't know if they're short staffed but it was a long wait and me and my best friend weren't happy. It shouldn't be pizza express but pizza slow. 🫤 Never eating there again.

We waited over an hour for food and there was only 5 tables that had people at them ,, food was average, shame really I've been going there for over 7 years now and that was rhe worst ever had there

It had been raining but outside should have been opened(probably because lack of staff) Had to wait for server to show us table. Server was an Australian who was helpful/polite. Meal was delicious,we shared half and had our two free sides. Paying we were told could only have one side free as we were short of £1.99.Why was this not on front of our membership and not at end?!

Been here twice this week with my partner and solo visit while child in Royal Sussex County. It has been a warm, efficient and delicious experience enabling us to have a nice meal & short break from worry. Fantastic waiting staff and food. Thank you so much guys :) Xxx

Appalling service. Bank holiday weekend - refused entry at 20:30 due to the kitchen being closed. The restaurant is meant to be open till 22:30. Laziness from the chefs, and a poor attitude on the waitress. Will not be attending again. Lost a customer.

Our food was passable, but the service was dreadful. Our sharing starter just didn’t arrive, barely an apology. Main course arrived. Had to ask for pepper, not offered. No one asked how the food was, or cleared our empty glasses/coke bottles asked if we wanted to order more drinks. We finished our main course and eventually had to get up and walk around to find a waiter to ask for a dessert menu. The waiter threw the dessert menus onto our empty pizza plates (rather than offering to clear them)! Our waitress was busy playing on her phone. Eventually came to clear our plates… The waitress finally returned to take our dessert order, took my daughter’s menu but walked off without taking her order, we had to call her back. Generally just a bad experience. Didn’t leave a tip, and waitress didn’t seem bothered, which surprised me. All the staff seemed very nonchalant, love Pizza Express, but wouldn’t go there again. The staff clearly don’t want to be there…..

We waited over an hour for our food, and when we asked about it, the waiter showed no interest in trying to find out what happened to our food. He simply said, 'I don't know, do you want my manager?' Then we waited further 20 minutes for our food- the manager did come and told us it would be only 5-10 minutes. When the food arrived, it was cold. Overall, a very poor dining experience!

I regularly come here with my mum because I know we will have a good time. Today was no exception - Liam was so kind and friendly and our food was brilliant. Thank you so much!

TERRIBLE service! We asked for 2 diet cokes when we arrived and were told by the waitress that she couldn’t take an order but would send a waiter to us. 10 minutes later, no one had come to serve us. Another guest then arrived and had his order taken straight away (which was really frustrating) and after nearly 20 minutes of waiting and still not having had anyone come to us, we left and had a really nice meal at Aydo next door (where they only took 2 minutes to deliver the diet cokes we asked for when we arrived!)

Relatively empty restaurant but left to wait to be seated after 5 waitresses walked past me - no eye contact, no ‘I’ll be with you shortly’. Food was great, as always, but service is beyond appalling

Delicious pizza! Choose your bowl between thick or thin crust. We chose thin: excellent. Serve with a nice glass of red primitivo: delicious. The dessert with espresso also tasted great. Friendly service!

Amazing service ! I had dinner there with my friends and it was perfect ! The team delivered very good service and Joel, I think the manager, was there to double check everyone was happy with their meal. Pizza Express is like any chain. You can have good ones, you can have bad ones. This is one of the best I've been to. Pizzas were delicious, staff are nice and welcoming. Definitely visit again when we're craving a pizza.

Everything was well class and the staff was proper doing their job. Pizza was lush like. Took my missus there for our 4 month anniversary and she was happy (my angel). Will come again for our 5th one if she ain't put me in the shed by then😂😂😂

Pizza Express is often a safe place for celiacs, and Marina Pizza Express didn't disappoint. We were told upon arrival (walk-ins), there was a 30-minute wait for food, which was fine, and to be honest, the food took no longer than usual. It is a real shame that when ordering gluten-free, you are penalised with far less food than your non gluten free friends. Example- dough balls. Gluten free, you get 5. Gluten, you get 8. Pizza- gluten free you get about a 9-inch pizza. Gluten, you get more like a 14-inch!!! What really made our meal was our waiter, Liam, who was simply brilliant. I told him I was celiac, and he made me feel very comfortable and relaxed that the food would be safe and tasty. He was quick and polite with all our orders, and nothing seemed too much as others in the party asked for additional drinks and sauces, etc. Big thanks, Liam, you made our standard Pizza express meal a great experience.

Restaurant in a top location, ambience well designed, unfortunately the food failed. I didn't expect too much from the pizza and was still disappointed, they probably serve frozen pizzas here.

The food is always good here. We were a walk-in party of 4 tonight. On arrival Liam met us and advised they were down 1x staff member so service might not be as we'd expect. Well, that couldn't be further from the truth. Liam looked after us effortlessly. We waited and wanted for nothing. His timing was perfect. Thank you Liam for a great night out. You definitely deserve a pay rise, or at least a bonus 👍👍 We'll be back, thanks to you.

This place has seriously fallen in standards lately. We have eaten here loads of times before and have enjoyed the experience. Arrived with my family. Restaurant half empty. No queue. Daughter and wife sat outside on the sun deck (beautiful sunny evening) whilst I went in to let the staff know where we were and check it was ok to seat selves. First thing I noticed was all the surfaces showed little sign of cleanliness. Not a good sign. I was then approached by a surly man with a brusk manner, I suspect he was the manager, who told me that it wasn't ok to sit outside as people had run off without paying their bills and he only two staff which meant we would be left without being attended to. I can see his point but the attitude that came with it put me right off. My wife went over and offered to leave a card and he was quite simply rude to her. Clearly they didn't have enough staff and that didn't bode well. The attitude was just the icing on the cake. We went elsewhere.

Enjoyed many occasions dining at Pizza Express all over the country but our recent experience was a huge disappointment. Once ordered the food took its time to arrive but unfortunately the wait wasn’t worth it, bland & tasteless.

I took my daughter here as a treat and was so disappointed with the service. Clearly they were understaffed in the kitchen but there were plenty of waiting staff who not once acknowledged the extremely lengthy wait we had for food. In fact, they seemed to be actively avoiding the section we were sat in and looked awkward with the situation. We were not offered more drinks or asked if we wanted any water for the table. I understand that staff shortages will inevitably mean a longer wait for food but this was not communicated to us before we sat down. If it had we would have gone elsewhere as with a youngish child, long waits for food are not ideal. I was loathed to pay full price for the food due to the overall experience.

We enjoyed a delicious meal here on Easter Sunday in the evening. Despite have a low number of staff we were served in plenty of time and really enjoyed our meal. The manager was extremely friendly and helpful as were the staff. Will definitely return. We had pizzas and desserts which were lovely. I enjoyed a Pizza Pal (?) for my drink and it was great paired with my pizza. 10/10

Walked in without a booking on a busy Friday evening - was instantly made to feel welcome by Simon at the door and was able to grab a table within the hour, so we went and done our own things whilst we waited as it was my girlfriends birthday. We came back slightly earlier than our now arranged booking yet this wasn’t a problem for the team and we were sat within 10 minutes. Every time we eat here the food is always amazing and so tasty, and the service goes above and beyond. As always we left a tip for our server, and also tried to tip Simon who kindly refused as he likes to leave all of the tips for his team - just goes to show how lovely he is. Once again, thanks for taking care of us and will be seeing you soon!

The place was busy and did warn us there would be a wait, but it took quite a bit longer than we'd been told, about 30 - 40 mins but good food, and excellent chocolate brownie.

We arrived and despite it being very busy, the resturant was extremely clean. We were shown to a table immediately and asked about any allergies, which I do have and explained about. Zoe was then very helpful with helping me choose something that was safe for me to eat and was attentive to us our entire visit, absolutely fantastic service from her. The food was lovely and came hot and deliciously cooked! Would visit again!

On Sunday evening, me and a bunch of friends decide to visit this pizza express on the marina in Brighton. It took a while for us to be seated, with us just being ignored at the front door. We then sat down, and asked a young waiter about a UNiDAYS code we had. She was lovely. And then all of a sudden a waiter with what I think the name is “dean” short, bald man, came over angrily telling us how we shouldn’t be trying to use the code and our rewards on pizza express. And also wouldn’t let us spilt the bill three ways. This wouldn’t even have been a large issue but he was so rude! It put us off wanting to even order! He even shocked the poor young girl trying to serve us. This has completely put us off PizzaExpress. The food was average. Service was not good.

Our waiter Dean was totally brilliant & an asset to your team. Our order was taken promptly but not rushed, the food was perfect & didn't take long to arrive (starters & mains). Dean was attentive & collected our plates with perfect timing. Not rushed but not sat ages waiting. It was our daughter's 16th birthday & we had brought a cake. We hoped he would kindly bring it to her with candles but he went above & beyond. Putting the cake on a slate & added decor sauces, strawberries & mint. We were delighted & touched by his actions. A small gesture which meant so much to Molly. Thank you Dean! We left a tip for him with our payment to thank him.

Very disappointed after a long walk their and was told the fridges were down ? At 830pm plenty of people eating and I reckon they wanted an early finish and wouldn't even do me a pizza and a pint. So the next day I tried again on Thursday night at 820pm and another excuse was made that they stopped serving outside . Its a heatwave and all the restaurants were packed outside 😫 taking lots of money in . I made it clear that I was being blagged and whent to my fave prezzo next door with no problem whatsoever.

We were served by Joshua, his first day as a waiter, he was polite, attentive and efficient! He gave the kids colouring pens and menus and dealt with our queries and alterations to the menu (we had a few) really well! Disappointing that there was no vegan cheese, this shouldn’t really happen in a pizza restaurant. Josh did his best to offer alternatives. The kids meals are great value, £7.25 for 3 courses, and the pizzas are really tasty as always! The atmosphere down the marina is lovely and the weather was warm yesterday so we had a lovely stroll after dinner for a look at all the amazing boats.

We were a group of parents and carers with our disabled young adults. The food was good and there was a nice atmosphere with live music. But what really stood out to us was the exceptional service from Patrick who was attentive, efficient and very helpful. We will return!

Excellent service, food, and value for money. We visited the restaurant on Sunday evening. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times and made us feel very welcome. Restaurant is clean and well managed. We sat Inside but there was a large seating area outside overlooking part of the Marina. Good children’s menu and good quality food and portion sizes.

I had to request menus, I had to ask for our table to be wiped down, I had to ask them to reset the table so they could wipe the table down which they didn't do, they were just rude, food as expected, no complaints there, over priced for what it is. Will be tipping, just out of desperation to show the one staff member who was attentive and on this planet, how appreciative we were of her efforts quite frankly. Cheers

The pizza I'd as thin as a sheet of paper

For a £15 pizza it was pretty disappointing. Very thin and toppings were few and far between. Staff were very pleasant and done a great job. Shame about the cost and standard of food. Best go across the road if you want something descent to eat.

Prawns with chilli and garlic- couldn’t taste chilli or garlic. Their speciality thin based pizza was entirely soggy and based not entirely cooked.

Excellent friendly staff, they managed our large group booking with patience and humour. Lovely setting overlooking the marina. Would highly recommend
