Enjoyable breakfast experiance, although a little pricy it not over priced, it is a tourist location and for this reason 4 stars is real good as usualy quantity is over quality. I was hungry so had a large breakfast and scoffed the lot 😋 good stuff Service with a smile and a good sence of humour Kind Regards Barron Allan Danial Barry.... it Darren FYI lol 😆

A tiny pub beside the canal to have a beer and enjoy the superb atmosphere around. Pub is small from inside even the place they are serving from the window but there's a beer garden next to it or couple of chairs. Nothing is special there but the atmosphere most I enjoy. That's the only thing they're having business to be honest.

I think perhaps you fry your chips and sausages in the same oil. It gave the chips an unpleasant taste. Either that or oil needed changing. Its a shame as the other food was fine. It did feel like the tables could do with periodic wipe down - didn't see it being done whilst we were there. Edit running my own business our chip oil (don't mix with meat products) is not tainted by just a days frying, it takes much longer, and I would not think of suggesting to a paying patron with a middling review noticing improvements and commenting in a non offensive way to come and work for us and seeing if they could do better, its actually rude and childish, I would have invited the person back asking to try us again. Every business should always look at maintaining or raising the bar not letting it slip

Beside the canal, it's so cold that you could practically faint at some times of the year. This is probably the best place for you to take a rest. The amazing food accompanied by the warm atmosphere of a traditional pub is overwhelming great. If I were completely honest, the servers and cooks seemed extremely friendly and would be willing to engage in conversations and dilemmas about the canals and the restaurant. I will definitely come here again in the future.

Just missed out on having food here as they had just stopped serving as we arrived. Menu looked inviting so we will be back to try the food. Drinks and service was amazing as always. Nice seating area outside to watch the boats and listen to the birds. Inside was warm and cosy. Looking forward to returning very soon.

A great place to stop for a beer, coffee and a great range of snacks as well as excellent offerings from the kitchen. Friendly and welcoming staff. Seating inside is warm and cosy, alternatively outside in the beer garden or at tables that provide close up view of the narrowboats moving in and out of the bottom lock.

Due to covid the pub is unable to function the way it normally does. This is unstandable. You wear a face mask when entering the shop and you collect the food from the hatch. The food they served were mainly snacks, but when the weather is hot what more do you need. They tasted fantastic. The shop is great and reasonably priced and the staff are amazing. We visited on 24/08/20. Don't listen to the negative reviews and support this business. It was my first time and I will be back.

Seems to have lost the plot with Covid. Operating as a beer garden only but forcing you to enter a shop and wear a mask to order unlike EVERY other pub. Very limited menu- basically only snacks. Such a shame to throw away what seems to have been a good reputation. I recommend avoiding until they start operating normally - if they survive

Super lunch of the tastiest sausage and melted cheese in a granary sub roll, (OH had a white sub roll). Park in the C&RT top car park (long stay) and follow the signs to the bottom lock where you will find this super pub. After partaking of your refreshments, from a piece of cake to a meal, walk back to the car park by the other route. That way you can see the whole of the system and some great views.

Stayed here overnight, the room was beautiful and spotless ditto bathroom. We opted to eat in the restaurant and the food was delicious and plentiful, it’s probably the best vegetarian lasagne I’ve eaten, there was a good choice for vegetarians , my husband really enjoyed the gammon. We were both so full we couldn’t manage a pudding. The bar was really busy but we couldn’t hear a word from our room. I slept for nearly 9 hours which is rare for me. The staff were attentive but not overbearing, they are certainly an asset to the business that’s for certain. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back.

A group of 12 of us had Sunday lunch at The Coach & Horses today, we had guests from New Zealand so wanted a nice cosy pub with a good reputation for food - Steph and her team did not let us down! The food was delicious - our choices included the roast pork, beef and chicken and everyone really enjoyed their meal. Service was excellent and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We'll definitely eat there again, so impressed!

An Absolute Gem in the Heart of the Countryside! I’m not from around the area, but during my stay, I found myself coming back to The Staff of Life Pub every single day—and with good reason! The food here is simply out of this world. From the mouth-watering tapas, which were a delightful mix of flavors and textures, to the traditional roast dinner that was as comforting as it was delicious, everything was cooked to perfection. And don’t even get me started on the apple pie—it’s truly to die for. Each bite was a slice of heaven, perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. Beyond the food, the ambience of the pub is fantastic. It has that perfect blend of warm, cozy, and welcoming, with a lively atmosphere that makes you feel at home, whether you're a regular or just passing through. The décor is charming, and the subtle lighting creates a wonderfully relaxed vibe. What really made my experience special was the incredible service, particularly from Sharon. She is such a gem—warm, attentive, and always ready with a smile. Sharon made sure that every visit was memorable and went out of her way to ensure everything was perfect. Whether you're local or just visiting, The Staff of Life is a must-visit. The food, the service, and the atmosphere are simply unbeatable. I’ll definitely be back!

Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere. Food & drinks very reasonable. Food very tasty, nice to find a pub with good wholesome food, and not a gastro-pub.
