AVATAR DINING in Harborough

A tad too attentive at times and presentation was unimpressive in the large bowls. Food was OK but not worth the Market Harborough pricing.

We were visiting Market Harborough and I wanted to book a curry so we booked Avatar due to the good reviews. Wow it was even better than we thought it’d be! It was genuinely the best tikka masala I’ve ever tasted and was really impressed with the quality of the meat and the rice. Chutney tray was amazing and the pakora’s were lovely too. All the staff were very friendly and it was a busy and lively atmosphere. We’re sad to live so far away otherwise we’d definitely be back. Thank you for a great meal!

So disappointing. After being recommended, booked a table for a "date night". Arrived in good time and told to take a seat. Waited for 30 minutes only to be told table still wasn't ready. Customer service and communication non existent. Really wanted to go away giving a good review. Left and managed to get a table elsewhere for a great meal with great service. What a pity!!!!!

Booked for 7pm but made to wait until 7:45. Complained at the time, but no recompense for the inconvenience and knock on effects. Not good enough.

I had booked a table for 7pm but not seated until 7:45. I was not happy having to wait and expressed that this inconvenience should be reflected in the bill. This was acknowledged, but in the end we were fobbed off with a free liqueur, which we would have been given anyway. This is very disingenuous, so I'm not a happy customer.

Wow! If I've had better food, I cannot remember when. I'm not able to fault anything about the experience. Even the pickle tray with the poppadoms is a little bit better than usual. Awesome staff. Great special dishes. If you like curry, you must try Avatar.

Been here a few times now never disappointed went on a Sunday for the buffet menu and what a great selection of starters and mains followed by a selection of cakes also had a coffee which was really nice

Amazing restaurant. Staff so friendly, all spoke to us. Lovely food, at reasonable prices. Great atmosphere. Table was decorated for my birthday, which was a lovely surprise, as was the birthday cake pudding and the happy singing from the staff. Will definitely be revisiting. Thank you.

I ordered a takeaway meal from avatar at 5.20pm on a Saturday evening. They had a 15% off offer running which I wanted to make the most of. For a starter, I ordered their "mini platter" which consists of lamb kebab, king prawn, and chicken tikka.. At £11.95 for this "platter", I was expecting at a minimum, a couple of each items.. But once I got home I found one small piece of each of the items in the container! £12 for this is extortionate! For my main, I ordered a lamb balti. I had no faults with this other than it could have been served hotter, as it was luke warm after I'd driven the 5 minutes home. The peshwari naan was tasty, but small for the price (£4.50) compared to other Indian restaurants in the area. I must iterate that the taste of the food was fantastic, and over the years I've had many thoroughly enjoyed sit down meals at avatar. But on this occasion with my takeaway, I've been left disappointed, and unfortunately still hungry, considering that the three items totalled £25!!

Not our first visit to Avatar but the first time we’ve left with a bad taste in our mouths and it was nothing to do with the food,which was excellent as usual,as were the staff.What got my back up was a 15% service charge added to the bill simply because it was Valentines Day.Absolute cheek and downright greed shown by the owner.😡

Traveled from Coventry on the recommendation of 2 colleagues . Nothing special as far as the food goes. What spoiled it was the massively loud crowd on the next table, the woman who as around 35 never stopped the whole time. Told the manager we won't be back.

Our first visit to this restaurant & we were very impressed, the food was amazing. It was very difficult to any Indian restaurant we had been to before obviously the mix of Indian & Nepalese makes all the difference, usually I struggle to eat everything I order but not this time! The food was so light with wonderful flavours, the service was excellent, very friendly & attentive with a lovely atmosphere. We booked on a Thursday evening so it was quiet, next time we will book on a Saturday evening. Truly a taste bud experience.

I was out with a couple of friends in Harborough last night; one a local. Our friend suggested we end our evening at Avatar. The food was stunning. The service was friendly and engaging. We live in Brixworth a few miles away, and I can't wait to come back aagin (soon) with my wife as I'm positive she'll love fresh modern indian food served here. Very highly recccomended.

Booked into Avatar to have a meal with friends tonight So disappointed to be put in to the new coffee bar next door and our food brought in from the kitchen from the main restaurant through a crowded entrance doorway and out on the street uncovered when I said we would be leaving no apology and changed £30 for a bottle of wine. Surely there are Environmental health regulations against this? Im sure this post will be removed asap the same as my friends. Shame how some restaurants only want you to read about the good comments.

Disappointed this evening. Arrived to be told we were in the avatar lounge next door which is the new cafe/lounge. Firstly there was no flooring down it was just cardboard concrete and it was marked and looked dirty. We waited 30 mins and didn’t even get a menu to choose from. Most of all I was in disbelief that people food was being brought from the resturant out the front door past all the talking people waiting in the queue, onto the public path on st Mary’s Road, in the rain and with storm Darragh blowing a gail. In to the lounge next door. Also the door did not shut so it was cold. We asked for a Merlot and was brought another wine and was not offered it before it was opened We ended up leaving before ordering and the bill was £32 for a bottle of wine and 2 lemonades I posted my feed back in their FB sight and it was deleted and I’m blocked

Amazing staff with excellent food! Best Indian around, however the one request id like to put is that you maybe consider a honey naan on the menu? It tops off a perfect curry!

This restaurant deserves a 5 star mention for its exceptional food quality which is well presented & for its high class level of service. One of the best Nepalese/Indian fusion restaurants I’ve ever eaten at. I’d highly recommend you try it. I’m certainly coming back here.

The restaurant was full and on arrival we were directed into the cafe next door (same proprietors) to wait until our table was ready. Service was okay but only one (female) member of staff ever smiled and displayed any "warmth". Food was fine.

Excellent meal, good prices, really wonderful service by staff, added little extras once it was made known 2 people in our group were celebrating special birthdays.Simply wonderful

My husband and I attended this restaurant for a Sunday lunchtime buffet. The food was absolutely gorgeous. The service was excellent and the staff were kind and friendly. We'd definitely go back.

We normally go once a month if we can at least 8 or 9 people. Last night only 4. Service felt very rushed and table service too. Food felt not up to normal standard for some unknown reason? We all had the banquet meal which includes starter, mains and desert which is ice cream or coffee. We were never even offered the 3rd course. I didn’t want to make a fuss as I was unsure if things have changed. I’ve pulled up the menu on the website and it’s all still there. They insisted on plying us more with drinks rather than the food we were there for. Always thought of this place as an Indian restaurant with the extra special touch but unfortunately not anymore. Shame!!!!

All the staff here are lovely, so welcoming and polite. That's what I call service. The food is out of this world and there's a lot. We went on Wednesday, which is banquet night and definitely value for money. The inside of the place is nicely decorated and clean. Our favourite Indian yet, thankyou Avatar

Food is great and atmosphere is good. Owner over books and is greedy for customers. We had a reservation booked and we had to wait 20 minutes to get our table. Poor service, bad ownership.

Very dissapointed tonight!!! Had a large booking for 10 people and on arrival told to wait in another area. Put in the "lounge" back area in a cold room waited 20 mins not offered drinks or poppadoms. Multiple other groups also waiting in this area clearly all tables double booked and no tables available. Told we would be waiting a short time and could have a free drink. This is not the 1st time this has happened and has happened previously with just me and my partner. Also no staff member present when I went looking for a drink. They should have extra staff in this lounge area and offer poppadoms on arrival to help with the wait. After 30 minutes of no service we decided to leave as starving! This is a pity as on past experience food is great! Service is normally slow and long wait for drinks when we do get a table.

Booked over a week ago for 7pm. Arrived slightly early so happy to wait with a drink. 7.30pm… still no table. Other tables of same size arrived with booking later than ours were seated. 7.36 left the restaurant.. still waiting for table. Did not pay for drinks as I consider this an unreasonable amount of time to wait for a table… award winning does not constitute this level of poor service. I await your response?

Have just tried Avatar after driving by many times and seeing how full it was. What can I say? The food is absolutely amazing. The staff are attentive and plenty of them. There is so much choice on the menu it is hard to make up your mind. There are also set menu's with prices for 1,2 or 3 courses. Will definitely return and recommend to our friends.

Outstanding, I have eaten in hundreds of asian style restaurant over many decades, and this is safely the absolute best !! Wonderfull staff, an excellent chef, spotlessly clean and a super ambiance and style. If you have not been yet, you must go. The guys will really look after you !! And serve you the the very best food !!

Whenever I stay over in Market Harborough I try to eat at Avatar. The food is always served hot by friendly and attentive staff. I decided to push the boat out and have a banquet meal. My starter was superb - honey chilli potato. I have enjoyed every main I have ever had on the specials menu at the Avatar. Tonight was no exception - Lababdar was very tasty with lots of chicken and a very tasty sauce.

Great Indian food and very friendly staff in this relaxed and busy restaurant. Visited on a Saturday evening, when there were lots of early eaters in - seemed to peak about 7pm. Understand it gets quite noisy towards the back of the restaurant, due to acoustics, so best to ask for a table near the front window if you want a quiet chat over dinner. Definitely a good idea to book in advance. This is also the first restaurant I've been to where the waiter advised me that I may not like the dish I was ordering! Very considerate of him, but I ordered it anyway - and loved it.

There was a mistake with the food order flow for our table , the staff sorted it out and couldn't do enough to sort it out. They even reduced our bill . Great food venue.

I enjoyed a family dinner with delicious meals, very friendly staff that even changed one of the dishes that was to hot for one of the children. Delicious desserts!!! Exceptional!! Highly recommend!!!

I accidentally sent my takeaway order to their sister restaurant in Lutterworth, but the team here were incredibly understanding. Without any fuss, they redid my entire order and didn't charge me a penny extra. The staff were exceptionally friendly, happy, and always smiling. Their approachable nature made the whole experience even better. It's rare to find such excellent customer service these days. The food was delicious, and the service was impeccable. Highly recommended!

We are new to the area and the Avatar has been highly recommended to us. We have now been several times in the last few weeks and find the food excellent, the staff very friendly and helpful and the service is at the right level of attentiveness. We are working through the menu and all our choices have been excellent. Good quality ingredients, well cooked with clearly distinctive Nepalese influences. We will be back, regularly.

The food was delicious and piping hot. The lamb melted in your mouth. Service was good except we were asked 5 times if we wanted more drinks, before our main meal arrived! We were happy with a large Cobra and a coke.

Not the experience I have had in the past. Seems like things have changed for the worse. Not somewhere I will be visiting again anytime soon. Poor staff, Food was ok but nothing special. Then after a poor experience placed a “best restaurant” competition QR code in my face and almost demanded I give them a good review. When I declined I was quickly overwhelmed with staff and management offering me a discount free drinks and all sorts. Funny how such a little thing caused them so much grief. I’ll avoid this place in the future.

Take away is the issue. They very rarely meet the time you want the food for (even if you give them 2hrs notice). It's so poor. Great food, poor service.

We were in Harborough and decided to get a takeaway. When phoning to order I was advised it would be 30 to 40 minutes. As we were sitting in the car I asked if it could be any sooner, they said they would do their best. It was ready in 20 minutes!! Still piping hot after a 15 minutes journey home. We always have garlic spiced spinach but they excelled themselves tonight, it was so delicious.

Many time visitor to Avatar. It was a really busy night, but we waited ages for our food. Service was friendly as always, but it felt like they just had hit capacity all over, certainly in the kitchen. Food was not as good as usual - chicken was cooked too much so it was hard. I'm sure because they didn't have time to give it the normal attention. We'll be back for sure, but will try to chose a quieter evening.

Superb food, excellent service. Regularly eat out here and can honestly say receive the same high standard of food and service. Normally go midweek so perhaps Friday / Saturday are when people have felt rushed as we've never experienced that. What a wonderful team at Avatar. Thank you.

Great Himalayan cuisine in a cool little town. The spice levels were spot on, the service was perfect... attentive without hovering. The relish tray was amazing. The duck Tikka was a unique treat. Awesome overall experience.

Just been to Avatar for a birthday dinner with my sister and partners. I didn't realise that she had said in booking it was a birthday dinner there were balloons and a banner at our table I was wished happy birthday on arrival. I had staff sing happy birthday and offer a birthday drink. It was amazing the service was wonderful the food was spectacular THANK YOU FOR A GREAT EVENING

Always friendly service and tastey food

Booked 21 Jan for valentine day and confirmed the booking via returned email. Got a call 3 weeks later to pay a £10 deposit and confirm the booking again plus was told this night is now a fixed menu. This place which serves lovely food and was the the place of my first date with my partner which we planned to have the same starter, that option was taken away plus the fixed menu is forcing me to pay for the bread and rice which I would not have ordered due to ill health. It is a poor show from Avatar to wait until there is no time to book left to book somewhere else to change the conditions and menu to ram as many people in as possible for one of the most popular nights of the year. Poor show Avatar! I cancelled my booking!

No wonder this Indian restaurant is so highly rated across leicestershire As long as you try it once You will definitely understand and fall in love with it! Note that the taste of different curries is really different And it says it’s spicy, so you must believe it! In addition to the normal menu, it provides set meals every day Excellent value for money The portions are plenty and there are so many choices! So many that it will annoy you... The food looks and tastes great! Meet friends and family for a meal You will definitely come back with a full load!

went for sunday buffet on 28th jan 2024 with 2 friends only to find the price as gone up yet again and now £17.95 which we thought steep the considering it started off at £11.50 weve been many times we got charged £24 for 2 large cobra beer in bottles and 1 glass of wine food was good but the price of drinks is outrageous its £7.50 for a large bottle of cobra and £4 for a coke thats 300% markup we will not go back as profits before customers is totally wrong and should be addressed before it effects business

Appalling. I booked a table at Avatar because my husband wanted to eat there in celebration of his birthday. I had vowed to never return to Avatar because they ruined my News Years Eve 2021 celebrations by not delivering my take away order because they had overstretched themselves. Anyhow, against my best judgement I booked a table. From start to finish (1 hour 10 mins) we were hurried along. For example we were asked to order our food immediately and I had to tell the waiter to leave my plate because I was still eating. As soon as we had finished eating and paid, we were told to leave our table and finish our drinks at the bar. Our table was then immediately cleared and reset for others to sit at. We were stood at a cramped bar next to the entrance with our drinks, coats, bags, scarves and hats in hand. We were in the way of staff and customers and it was cold. I told bar staff that I was not happy and was offered a complementary drink. I explained that I did not want another drink because I had not finished the one that I already had. Upon hearing this another member of staff approached us and offered us complementary Prosecco. I explained again that I did not want another drink and that I wanted was to be able to sit down with my husband and enjoy our evening out. They then tried to find us seats so that we could sit at the bar. By this point the experience had been ruined and we just wanted to leave, so we did. I will never return to Avatar. Profits before customers every time.

Very busy night so promised a table an hour later. We left and came back but still no table. Fair enough, 4 beers for £27 for four beers whilst we wait (very expensive). Another 45 mins later we gave up. Just tell us next time you are too busy!!!

This was our 3rd visit as we have had a few stop overs in Mkt Harborough since last year. It was very very busy and quite noisy as some large groups were dining. However we got used to the noise and were seated at the front..the staff were attentive, didn't rush us, our food was in good time and absolutely delicious as always. I am glad we booked a time as people were coming in and having quite a wait! Looking fwd to a return visit

The food was nice, we did ask for our children's dinners to be more mild, the waiter said he would sort it. But didn't. All felt very rushed and not very relaxed. Been before and been ok.

I must confess that I have been eating here for years, but this is because it's fabulous. I've eaten at many similar restaurants around the UK and even abroad, I have never had a better package of food taste, ambiance, great staff and decent prices which compliment each other.
