I have been here many of times. I walk to here probably twice a month and have a mocha, or a cold drink. I've also ordered food here. Staff are polite, courteous and the food is really good and everything is so well priced. In a beautiful location. I will always enjoy coming here. Happy to tip too!

Phoned in advance to ask about it being dog friendly, which I was informed it is but have to be seated outside. Not a friendly entrance, when seated we were seated in a corner so it wasn’t as windy but was freezing, there was no heaters or perspex to try and keep the wind out and heat in, my grandparent is 85 and not saying places have to offer blankets but I know of places that do when you are sitting outside. There were left over cigarette ends left in an ash try on the table, the table wasn’t cleaned either. Had to order everything from inside, they don’t bother coming out unless it’s to take your food out/in. The waitress was so unfriendly when ordering food at the desk as well as having to repeat my order 3 times, it was 2 starters and 2 mains that were straight forward. The menu was so basic and simple. The mains were basically salads bar 2 burger options. The food was bland and boring, something you could make at your own home! The haggis for starters was very greasy, the chicken burger for mains didn’t have sauce in it, the bun just fell apart. The mushroom soup wasn’t something the brag about and the tuna toasty was just average. The icing on top of the cake was that they can’t fill up the dog bowls with water, as apparently they aren’t allowed to touch them? I just used water from my car as I never got shown an outside tap, felt like you had to do everything yourself bar make the food. Food was okay priced but just simple things like vinaigrette would have been nice on the salad. Wouldn’t rush back in a hurry, nicer places to try, was organically going to go to the cafe at Canada Woods but unfortunately it was closed for today.

Peaceful canal side spot with outdoor space for furry friends and play area for mini visitors. If outside can also pre-book PODS for warmth. Order and pay inside and excellent food is served with a smile. The owner truly goes the extra mile

Took my elderly parents here for lunch recently. We had a lovely time. The waitress was very welcoming and cheery, the soup and toasties were very tasty and packed with fillings, and it was all very reasonably priced. My parents enjoyed the country road drive and watching a couple of barges go by while the enjoyed lunch. We will most definitely return.

First time here booked a table for 12 lunch, no hello, seated waited 15 mins for any offer off drinks, got pot of tea, husband wanted a whisky but only Black label available, poor selection. Soup arrived at 12.20, I was still waiting for my main course and husbands second course at 12.55, focaccia arrived with minute steak which was like leather, ( no steak knife offered) was going to have a dessert but a party of 16 people came in and as only 2 waitresses for all the tables including the ones outside, decided not to bother! Paid for our meal, “ how was your meal?” No Thankyou , I explained that the minute steak was tough and she apologised. On the plus side good parking, nice surroundings and very clean, plenty of parking, first time there and don’t think I’d go back

Went for a light lunch on Sunday and ordered the leek and potato soup. I was very surprised to be served a bowl of several new potatoes, quartered, in stock with some leeks. This needed a knife and fork, very difficult in a bowl. I spent a couple of minutes crushing the potatoes with a fork after cutting them with a knife until it was suitable for eating with a spoon. The stock was surprisingly good but weird

We so wanted to give this place 5 stars - the staff were really nice, well laid out, next to the canal, prices looked reasonable. However, 40 minutes in and the waitress apologized saying they had run out of cranberry sauce. After 45 minutes I asked the waitress how long our lunch would be. She came back and told us that the chef would hurry it on as quickly as possible as there was a backlog of orders. Now the cafe was less than half empty with most of the customers having been served and yet they were telling new arrivals that there would be a wait for hot food of at least 45 minutes. We left without waiting on the food. If this kitchen was better organized, it would be a great place to come.

After a miserable year of cancellations we decided at short notice to try and make the most of my sister and brother-in-law's Golden Wedding day. My daughter suggested afternoon tea in a pod at Bridge 49. With only week to book something I was delighted with the service I received. The lady on the telephone was so helpful and it was no surprise the pod was all set for us arriving. China cups and saucers and the most delightful assortment of sandwiches and cakes. We all had a choice of piping hot tea or coffee pots. The pod was unusual and fun and although there is no door in in, we were very cosy with no jackets on.The restaurant looked good too with appropriate social distancing in order and the ladies toilets were immaculate A definite find and hope we will be able to return soon.

My husband had booked a pod at Bistro49 by the Canal as a belated birthday gift as we were under full lockdown on my actual birthday. I have always wanted to try an afternoon tea so that’s what we went for. We were away for a relaxing night away and not familiar with the area. We were really excited of the pod concept by the water. The afternoon tea we can’t fault. The cakes and sandwiches were delicious and the pod was comfortable. The price was good too. However....there is a 17 year age gap between myself and my husband. Why on earth would I feel the need to share this on a public review about food I hear you ask? Well because the man who was serving us seemed to feel it was appropriate to randomly point it out to us and make an inappropriate joke. I am approaching 40 years of age, and our relationship is long term, yet not once has any stranger before ever felt the need to remark on our relationship. The first time he served us he made conversation, asked why we were in the area etc. My husband mentioned we had left our teenage kids at home, all general chit chat. The man serving us left and when he came back later on and was putting coffee in front of us said to my husband “so you left your teenagers at home but decided to bring your oldest daughter?” Looking at me. We had already mentioned we were a couple having a night away and referenced OUR kids, and this stranger decided to drop his bombshell of a “joke” randomly in to our afternoon. I didn’t like his manner from the start. And adding that in to it I just felt incredibly self conscious, uncomfortable and as if we were being judged. I have a sense of humour, I love to laugh, that wasn’t funny. It was unprofessional. Our age difference never enters my head. We were there for a romantic afternoon and he had absolutely no right to make a personal comment. I don’t ever leave negative reviews. I accept that some places aren’t for everyone. But this upset me. So I decided to post this. So....since you were disrespectful enough to make a personal reference to the age gap in a strangers relationship, and your paying customers...here is a message for the large older guy who was serving us. You made me feel judged and put a dampener on what would have otherwise been a perfect experience, a little more professionalism should maybe be at the forefront of your mind in future. With other customers. We won’t be back.

First visit back to Bridge 49 after lockdown and it was a let down. We used to really enjoying coming here but it just wasn't right today. Starters were poor and terrible portion size for the loaded potato skins and the prawn cocktail literally had no sauce on it, I was to hungover to complain about it. I'm not usually one for complaining or finding faults but I don't think we will come back which is a real shame as we always enjoyed visiting Bridge 49. I can't decide if cost saving or a different chef is the reason for our poor lunch.

The restaurant was warm and cosy on arrival which was perfect with it being so cold outside. It was quite busy so it was good that I had booked a head in advance. The food was absolutely brilliant! One of the best, of not THEE best chicken burgers I’ve ever had! My girlfriends fish and chips was brilliant too.Definitely recommend a desert as well! A nice touch by this restaurant is that the head chef serves the food, which I’ve never seen done elsewhere and I thing it’s brilliant.Highly recommend this place. We will definitely be back sometime soon!PS don’t listen to sat nav, after getting into town it took us off the main road and onto farm roads then said the destination was on our right (a field) but we were actually about 1/2 from the restaurant. Keep to the main road through town and you’ll spot it just before going over the canal.

Booked a Pod which was fun to sit in but service was really slow. Took over 2 hours for lunch, think this is partly due to being in a Pod as we were mostly ignored. 2 adults and 3 grandchildren I ordered fish and chips, was asked if that was the high tea which was £11.95 including bread & butter and pot of tea or fish gougeons which was a smaller meal, went for the gougeons but got charged for the high tea. Husband had a burger, with haggis and chips. We waited ages for the drinks, ages for the food and even longer for the desserts. Ice cream, can’t understand that one. Bill came to £50 so thought it was expensive and especially with the terribly slow service not value for money. Grandchildren were bored and wrestless as it was a lovely day and we were sitting for ages waiting to eat. I even had to go in and pay at the till as had asked 2 people for the bill and got fed up waiting. Then to top it all, my husband told me today that his “burger” was missing from the bun and there was only haggis on it which we paid £1:00 extra for. He did not want to say anything at the time because he knew I had been so disappointed at the service spoiling our day out with the grandchildren and did not want me to feel bad. Sorry but we won’t be back, you need to get your act together to keep repeat business. Gave 1 star coz cant give none

Unsure what to choose the waitress recommended the southern fried chicken dipping board which I ordered. This and my partners fish arrived in good time, so we got stuck into the chips while the main dish cooled slightly. They were amazing, so crispy & light & like little scoops I could dip in the sauce. We arrived with our 2 year old grand daughter for lunch. The cafe wasn’t busy with perhaps 3 or 4 tables with diners having lunch. These diners were all seated to the left of the entrance however we were shown to a table in the opposite corner. The person who showed us to the table was aware we had a small child accompanying us but didn’t even offer to get the high chair. We all had a 2 course lunch but were very disappointed with the mains when they arrived. I myself had the fish and chips, my partner had the scampi and the child’s meal was chicken goujons . Both the child’s meal and my fish were very greasy and I had to remove the batter on both the chicken and the fish to make it edible. My partner said his scampi was ok but it was a very small portion. The peas on both the adults meals were cold, the child’s meal came with no salad or vegetables. The chicken goujons were served with spicy chilli sauce which was far too spicy for a small child and I would have appreciated being told about it before she tried it and spat it out. I would say the service was very poor and neither waiter nor waitress went out of their way to be friendly. My partner had a sweet (part of his 2 course menu) and we waited patiently for the waitress to come and take our order whilst she tidied up the tables. Eventually I had to go and order the sweet - a chocolate fudge cake with ice cream for my partner and a child’s ice cream. The cake came without ice cream but neither of us could be bothered to mention it as we just wanted to eat up and get out. The actual “cafe” is set in a picturesque area next to the canal and has an outdoor seating area which is very nice however we certainly won’t be rushing back giving the good selection of cafes / pubs available in nearby Linlithgow which serve better quality lunchtime food at similar or even cheaper prices with a smile.

Been here before, and always enjoyed the food. This time I had a baked potato which despite being billed as "a new take on the baked potato), it was simply a potato with salad, so not sure what difference to normal. In any case I was about half way through and tried to cut it in half, and it simply wouldn't. It was rock hard and it would have been a great substitute for shoe leather. How this could have been cooked and moved onto plate without noticing I will never know. The biggest gripe for me however was when I mentioned it to the waitress and later the waiter, who made me feel I was wrong to point it out. Replacing it when everyone at the table was almost finished was not an option. And although it was taken off the bill, I am still waiting for someone to apologise or at least recognise an error had been made. Shame really as we had visited before, but we will not rush back.

The food was good at lunch. We had Fish & chips and soup and a sandwich. Fish was nice, chips were over cooked, soup & sandwich was good but the side salad just tasted of green peppers. There was only one waitress on & it was abit slow but I’d visit again.

Went for lunch a couple of days ago. I enjoyed my meal but I don't think the prep was up to the same standard as the previous visit. Could just be personal taste. I didn't like the vegetables and my friend did not like the onion rings. We both had the soup which was delicious. The deals are good value for money and you certainly get a plate full.

The food we received was first class and the service was good too. I was surprised how busy it was for the time of year. The problem and I discussed this with the management was the noise. The lack of soft furnishings results in a high level of noise. Diners raise their voices to be heard and it is impossible to have a converation.

Bridge 49 is lovely place on the banks of the canal. The lunch menu is varied with something for everyone. Enough choice but not so much that things get out of hand and not cooked well. What they do, they do very well indeed. ( Good kids choice too).

No doubt about the quality of location (facing the Union Canal ... picturesque, indeed), but sadly their service was really slow. Friendly staff members were trying to handle each customer's request diligently, though.

Standing on its own by the side of the canal is the Bridge 49 Cafe. Beautiful quiet setting. Food was of very good quality at excellent prices and the place although modern has great atmosphere, brightness and warmth. Walls adorned with paintings of local scenes. After you dined here take a walk around the back of the restaurant down a narrow track to see a small hidden cove on the canal where residential mooring exists.

First visit to Bridge 49 and I will definitely go back soon. Beautiful string at side of canal, where you can sit outside and take in the view, watch the ducks and the canal boats go past. Great memu from coffees through to lunch and open late on Friday, Saturday and Sunday for evening meals. Interior is well laid out (and cool in this weather) pictures on wall for sale - which one to choose. Toilets immaculate. Service was excellent, friendly staff nothing too much trouble. Attentive it not intrusive. They even have water bowls for dogs. Thoroughly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

I have been to this lovely canalside bistro many times while on bike rides along the canal path. All of the lunches we have had have been fantastic and such great value with the set menu. The ladies who work there are all really lovely and welcoming.

Having been royally let down by the West Port Hotel in Linlithgow who we had made a booking with , Bridge 49 helped us out at the last minute by accommodating our visiting family, kids and dog! Customer service, food and setting faultless for the whole party. We'll be back! Many Thanks

Stopped here for lunch with my wife around 13:30 and had the choice of a table inside or outside. Staff pleasant and service attentive. As it was busy we were told there may be a 20 min for food and asked if that was ok but it wasnt that long.

First time back here for about year. Beautiful sunny day, and it made all the difference. Not sure if this is a different chef, but the food was well presented and delicious. Between us we had Chicken Caesar salad, Mac and cheese, and chicken/leek pie. All helpings were good and the food was tasty. Service was faultless also. A real out of the way place, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The fab weather may have helped, but difficult to say anything negative.

I discovered Bridge 49 doing a search for eateries in Linlithgow waiting for my wife. I am so pleased I chose it as somewhere to have lunch. Great venue, very helpful staff and great facilities. I am amazed at the negativity on tripadvisor as the food was excellent and judging by other users, everyone seemed very happy with their meals. Looking forward to a return visit

We booked for sunday lunch recently. You dont really need to book as you can mainly just walk in and get a table except at the busiest times but we had one of their cards that gives 10% off if you book so we did! The carvery was our choice and I have to say it was a really lovely meal. Choice of steak pie, vegetable pie, roast beef, roast ham or chicken breast with ample supplies of roast and boiled potatoes, cauliflower cheese and a host of other veg all helped down by a tasty gravy ( with a veggie option) and a couple of tasty yorkshire puddings. Well satisfied, we were glad we hadnt had a starter although we had been tempted! The staff were so friendly and helpful and couldnt do enough for you. The surroundings have been refurbished and are pleasant and comfortable and the tables are far enough apart that you are not in everyone elses conversation. This was our first visit to Harveys but it wont be the last. Good honest tasty food, great service and very resonable prices. You should try it, they deserve to succeed in business.

Waiting for meals for over 30 minutes. Other tables served. Meal obviously warmed up, hot outside, cold inside. Returned meal, refund issued, did not require any replacement meal. Soft drinks ordered and arrived just before we left. Issues with time waiting on bill

Ate here for 4 nights whilst away with work. Staff were lovely and very attentive. Food was good, some dishes better than others, I had the lamb shoulder, beef burger, steak and a sea food linguine. The steak was ok but really overpriced and served on a Wetherspoons style plate, one sorry looking mushroom and tomato served up with it! The Burger was tasty if a little underdone (no issue for me but maybe check people are ok with served pink!) The lamb was amazing. Seafood linguine wasn’t to my taste. Deserts had plenty of choice but only the sticky toffee did it for me, the rest were mediocre and seemed defrosted. Again expensive for what they are. Atmosphere was ok each night, didn’t spend long in there. I wouldn’t say it’s got a lot of charisma about it though! 4/5 all in as the staff where great!
