Breakfast burrito is banging! Good Aussie coffee too

Had the most bizarre experience at Brickwood last Sunday. Me and a friend went to get a coffee in the afternoon and when we saw that there were no waiters around but plenty of space on the outdoor terrace we went to take a seat. We were approached by a tall, male Aussie waiter who made an extremely rude and condescending remark about us taking a seat without informing staff. He made us feel extremely awkward and unwelcome from the get go and then proceeded to ignore our table. We felt so awkward and unwelcome that we ended up leaving without placing an order. When serving other tables close by we could see he had a similarly bad attitude to other customers and a shocking approach to customer service. Maybe he was just having a bad day but it was so uncalled for. I won't be rushing back to Brickwood Clapham Common and neither will my friends

I wanted to like this place, but service took forever and the acoustics were awful and it took forever to get our very basic order of coffee and a pastry.

I l9ve this place except I can't agree with manager about wildlife and that will make it hard to go back

Visited Brickwood Clapham this morning, was greeted by Harry and annoyingly I’ve forgotten the other chaps name (tall Australian fun name) their service was fantastic and spent a good hour+ discussing a variety of things while I enjoyed a flat white and hash nuggets. Will be visiting at every opportunity!

For a nice breakfast it's very good, a very welcoming team with a smile... the cappuccino very good... thank you to the whole team!

The food was delicious and Harry and team were very welcoming and friendly. As a solo diner one can often feel rushed and a bit out of place but not here - would highly recommend!

The barista was so chatty and happy it made the experience really nice and I'll definitely come back. Obviously the coffee was delicious but it was very unique and personal in conversation

Harry is one hell of a human, as is the rest of the staff having to deal with me every 2nd day of the week

Cozy Aussie cafe with friendly service, spacious back room, and expansive food menu and great coffee at reasonable prices. The hearty English breakfast and fluffy blueberry pancakes were fresh and well portioned, with particularly delicious mushroom and tater tots!

We had a wonderful lunch at Brickwood today! Food and service top notch! Barney couldn’t have been more helpful and courteous. Just a lovely lovely place!

Clapham Common is a Londoner's destination, and this is very much a Londoner's coffee bar serving good quality coffee carefully made. Good friendly banter with the staff, attentive, free water table served to accompany the coffee and good quality food. What's not to love and a regular haunt to avoid the generics elsewhere. Worth crossing the street for.

Revisited on New Year' day while not many places open, this place was busy, or always busy/ popular, used to go often years ago. Food is great, large mocha tasted like chocolate flavoured latte; but, friendly staff, very chilled and if you like 'dude' 'hey man' 'what's up mate' this kind of experience, you will love it! Oh, the toilet seems to be problem on last visit too...

The Large ginger guy at the till was unnecessarily rude. We had only popped in for a coffee but quickly decided to never return after that encounter.

Thanks Brickwood for the great Melbourne coffee, reminding me of home! We will definitely be back for another during our time in Clapham.

Absolute letdown! After readin' all these bonnie reviews online, I had me hopes sky-high for this place. But lo and behold, the two lasses working there seemed like they'd rather be countin' sheep. No enthusiasm whatsoever—sittin' behind the counter, glued to their phones. Had to chase down the waitress for an order 'cause no one bothered to come our way. And when the food finally landed, it was colder than a winter's night in the Highlands. Politely asked for salt, and the lass just plonked it down, nae a word said. Dinnae even bother mentionin' the Arctic dish, judgin' by their demeanor, it would've been like talkin' to a brick wall. Disappointed doesnae even cover it!

We popped along on a very busy Sunday afternoon and it was a bit of a squeeze! Very good coffee (good decaf too) and some great brunch options. They serve some fabulous toasties, perfect after a long walk on the Common. Also a big fan of the hash brown nuggs and chilli jam. Yum!

Staff were absolutely lovely, food was excellent and coffee was top notch. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Exceptionally smooth Cappuccino and the grilled banana bread with the mascarpone and berries really hit the spot. It's right off CS7 with cycle parking right outside, which is brilliant. Must stop café on all bike rides to South London! Update: the banana bread mascarpone combo has now left the menu sadly. But the lovely staff gave me a deconstructed one to relive it. :)

Very pretty cafe, aesthetic, the pancakes are probably the best thing on the menu. Unfortunately the food took ages to come and by the time it arrived (30min later) we had finished our coffees and twiddling with our thumbs. You have the expectation breakfast arrives within 10min so you can drink with your coffee. The beef sarne was so so. The staff were nice, the coffee was average. Bit weird they added the service charge when the food took so long. I would have expected a discount if anything 😕

Shocking service ! Just tried to have a coffee this morning and after asking for it twice and 20 minutes wait, still nothing ! And they weren’t even busy….I walked away, shame it used to be a good place in the past.

Fantastic food, great atmosphere, but that wasn't the best part of our brunch together with my friend. Harry, Harry, Harry... what a legend he is! He made me actually laugh, please do not change the attitude and the way of how you do things. Certainly, one of the best service I have ever received. Legend!

Can’t go wrong with Brickwood. Breakfast is always delicious, and the service is consistently great. The mushroom on toast is surprisingly moreish! Perfect for Aussies wanting a teeny slice of home. Gets super busy on the weekends so expect to wait for a table!

The breakfast is fantastic, if a little steep from a pricing perspective. The USP is the hash nuggets, which are a genuine delight to consume. The coffee is alright but I wish their standard size takeaway cup was bigger, as one latte really isn’t enough. Love the Aussie vibe though and I live close by, so visit regularly.

Ordered a four cheese toastie… it had NO CHEESE. Everything had clearly been microwaved and pre-made. Hash nuggets put in a broken plastic coffee cup and also were clearly microwaved. I used to order from here a lot but standards have gone way down. Brickwood: you’ve lost a customer. What a waste of money.

So this review is an oxymoron. I love coming here for the food, but the coffee is always a bit of a disappointment. Which is a real shame given they're an Aussie cafe that look like they should know what they're doing. So I'd be tempted to give 5 stars for the food alone, but the coffee is kinda average for Clapham, which is honestly just sad. However you can buy a Cherry Ripe, so it's all ok in the end.

Another Clapham gem! Really good English breakfast in the form of the Butcher…and they give you two slices of toast which is rare in the brunch game. Coffee is excellent, service excellent - just try and score a seat inside on chillier days.

Traveled to and spent a week in the Lambeth Borough and we were directed to this coffee shop. My daughter and I visited at least four times and became regulars for the week. Atmosphere and vibe were great. Harry (owner?) was exceptionally welcoming and we spoke about our shared experiences in the States. Food was excellent and prices were what I expected. Completely recommend this restaurant and I will visit if I should ever re-visit London.

We were looking for a great tasing breakfast place and Brickwood Coffee & Bread was the place. The food was good and the staff were courteous and professional. A must visit while in London.

Harry is a great host. He made us an unbelievable, café, Americano and latte every morning. You have to try their avocado and chicken Panini. We will miss this place.

Spontaneous visit with an Italian friend. Food prices high end but for great quality and kind service. Bustling atmosphere, had waiting people nearly sitting on my lap. Ordered a cappuccino,, barely any foam, was more like a latte. Didn't say anything as was enjoying the company I was in. Still ....

Great coffee and delivery pasties and breads from the local “Old post office organic bakery” down the road near Clapham North. So fresh and yummy, especially the toasted banana bread which comes with maple butter!

Food was delicious but it’s a bit overpriced. The indoor seatings were quite cozy.

I ordered blueberry pancakes and a cappuccino. I received this avocado on toast and an unknown coffee. The driver had another delivery so must have taken mine to that place but my ticket was on this order and the bag was stapled shut so it was all due to the cafe and the driver had no way to confirm the order. I've eaten here several times as food and coffee is nice but dont order delivery or you'll waste £20 on breakfast for one.

I had a bad time because of the racism given by the waiters and they change the menu without updating it on the website. A bad experience for all you pay for two simple dishes.

Was great has now lost its draw maybe dropped its standards when it expanded and added more stores. A real shame as this place was fantastic and exciting - feels like its been left behind.

I enjoyed the food but they left the front door wide open all the time and it was (literally) freezing outside - this meant it was really cold inside and I had to keep my coat on which spoiled the experience. Making a small change - ensuring all doors and windows are closed during the winter months - would cost nothing but massively improve the experience (also better for the environment!).

Nice coffee but I had a vegan sausage that was expensive (the pricing wasn’t clear) and not heated all the way through-disappointing.

Nothing special and pretty average food. We had the hash browns, spicy chicken sandwich (which was not spicy at all) and the banana bread that's served with espresso butter. The butter was too hard and was not possible to eat with the banana bread. They should just serve it over the bread rather than on the side

A fail safe brunch spot, lots of variety on the menu and always delicious.

This 5 star review is purely for the girl working today (4/01) with the denim dungarees and white cardigan. She is a star. I wish all the other staff at Brickwood followed her footsteps as her service and friendliness is spot on to all customers.

Nom nom nom. Brickwood is a delicious little bustling hive in Clapham Common. It’s a small cafe, that is perfect for brunch, but groups be prepared - you may need to queue. Amazing coffee, delicious vegetarian options and excellent vibes. Would recommend for a cheeky Sunday brunch.

Always great to stop by Brickwood after a walk in Clapham Common park to enjoy a nice Aussie breakfast. Would definitely recommend you to visit them! Be aware that there might be some queue outside on weekends!

Terrible service, only decent food not worth the price. We didn't get our coffee or banana bread until after we got our main brunch dish, server spilled my flat white and didn't bother redoing it so not even that was good, banana bread was only okay. And then after all that they have the gall to sneak in an "automatic" service charge for all of that. What service? Just preying on people too afraid to ask you to remove it. It was a lot better when I went a year ago. Disappointing. Will not be coming back

Food is very meh.. I alway leave feeling very underwhelmed and I often have to serve myself with menus, cutlery, water etc. I’ve been here 4-5x now and it’s always the same. Far better cafes around the common to go to instead

Coffee and cake stop during a shopping trip. The carrot cake was generous and very tasty. The cappuccino was quite strong as was my husband's Americano with milk (it was very small too - disappointing)

The clapham junction branch is way better the microaggressions from the staff was awful horrible chai latte and worse breakfast had to send it back will not be going again fake smiles from waiting staff just dreadful avoid and go to clapham branch way better

Would be great if opened at 7.00 so can get coffee on way to work, luckily due to heat we are both working remotelt today so the 8am opening was ok. Great coffee, nice to have a spot of OZ in London, have been to the Tooting Broadway one a few times when visiting our daughter who lives nearby 1st time to Clapham one. Great outdoor ( rear) garden space, quiet, shaded. Great menu, super green smoothie ( yes I am missing Melbourne!) Hubbys avo toast great, tumeric latte very nice, hard to find good ones in London! Good Mel coffee another hard thing to find... ok yes I guess I'm bias! But great coffee is great coffee ! Right? These guys do it well!!!

Worth the queue! Excellent breakfast cafe but incredibly popular and always busy. Corn jalapeño fritters with poached egg excellent. The chilli jam finishes it off perfectly! Great brunch cafe.

Tasty food, nice atmosphere, but unfortunately unfriendly staff and noticeably poor service made the visit rather disappointing, especially as it was celebrating a birthday. Excellent bread. Great for takeaways as the sandwiches and toasties are superb. This time I had a super-salad which was very generous though I ate most of it before remembering to take a picture. Spinach lentils sweet potato and guacamole on top.

Bland and totally average coffee let this place down. The staff were more interested in chatting than making my latte (I was the only one ordering as well). Decor looks nice and so does the food but wouldn't recommend.

Flat white is spot on, the customer service can improve but if the coffee keeps delivering as it has been then I will be back anyway.

I have been coming here for the last few months for my day off brunch and really love the food and atmosphere. But today I come in to find instead of the normal friendly staff taking my order a plastic disc on the table to scan so I can order on line. No menus, no human contact, no soul. This is a small intimate cafe, it's not a massive chain restaurant. Why have u reduced the charm and natural interaction that is part of the café experience?? I hate that you have gone down this route and it has really spoiled my visit and I really will be looking for a new brunch hang out that understands the value of the human interaction.

Amazing coffee and brunch. Tried the toast with chilli - delicious. I don't see why people would go to any of the big chain cafes nearby when this and black lab are just next to Clapham Common station.

Strongly recommend the banana bread with espresso butter, it's delicious. Good coffee. Excellent customer service. The menu seems rather diverse and includes lunch meals, however we didn't try any of these as we only stopped for a coffee and cake. Please note that the place (especially ground floor) is quite busy and loud - it's not a cafe where you can work or read a book - at least on a weekend.

Great as always. Service never fails to impressed. Quick to get you seated, they take your drunk orders straight away and everything comes pretty quickly considering how busy they are. Staff are also very friendly. Plus, and this is a huge plus, the food is always banging.
