The Cut Bar in Lambeth

Best place to grab a quick bite if you’re seeing a play at the Young Vic. Food was excellent…every dish was delicious. Charming service, buzzing busy ambience and a zero minute walk to the theatre after you’re finished. Perfect.

We enjoyed our visit for lunch before a matinee at the Old Vic. I write to thank the kind efforts of the owner Nicolai in going above and beyond in helping return my expensive reading glasses to Liverpool, by courier. This sympathetic and practical kind approach is very much appreciated and we shall return soon

One of my favourite spots in Waterloo... this bar is made by their staff. One staff member in particular... Sahelle. Excellent service, her cocktail knowledge is vast and the quality of drinks is impressive. She never fails to welcome us and our friends and make us all feel special. The Cut would be lost without her! Thanks Sahelle x

Beautiful bar! Both the prices and the atmosphere. The bar is inside the theater, so in the evening during the intermission you won't be able to push through, but this only adds to the charm of this place.

BTW the outside space in the summer months - first floor over street terrace, yes please, bring back the summer!

It's a nice bar, but steer clear of the extremely expensive food. Five pieces of pasta as a veggie main course - works out £3.40 each! Really not worth it, esp with so many great other places locally (who also have a much better veggie selection).

They have a weird marketing strategy, they would approach you on Instagram with a discount to bring you into the restaurant, and then completely ghost you pretending this never happened. Don't know who is running your social media but that person need some training lol

Delicious food & fabulous cocktails. Had the Tuna & Burrata, both delicious. For main course we had the Bavette & Mushroom risotto with fresh black truffle! Again, both were delicious!

Gorgeous place for after work drinks, we sat on the terrace outside. Staff were attentive and drinks were served quickly. We didn't eat but the food being served around us looked delicious.

Second time in three months. This little gem is a lively place with surprisingly good food from a fairly limited menu (makes sense to do fewer things, well) and a good cocktail and drinks selection. Went before a play the first time, and the second time because we were staying in the area and knew the food would be good. Booking recommended.

You need to arrive early or book in advance to get a table at this popular Bar and Restaurant, especially if you want to have a leisurely supper before a performance at the Young Vic. An excellent selection of small plates and prompt, polite table service.

Der Burger war extrem gut, und die Bedienung war im Allgemeinen schnell und freundlich. Sehr entspannte und moderne Atmosphäre. Man muss aber sagen, dass es sehr laut drinnen war, da eine direkte Verbindung zum Theater Young Vic besteht, und die Schlange direkt bis in den Raum führt, wo man isst. Das war aber kein Problem und war nach 10 Minuten auch zu Ende.

Absolutely amazing. From the space upstairs, to the chilled atmosphere, I loved it here. We had the New York IPA beer, gin tonic, burrata and the sharing veggie board which was flavorful and generous. Can’t wait to come back the next time I’m visiting to the Young or Old Vic

A nice little pub relatively close to Waterloo Station. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors that can accommodate large groups. On a Saturday afternoon we turned up with a group of ten people and there was plenty of room for all of us. The drinks are reasonably priced and announcements were made prior to a show starting in the theatre next door which would have been convenient if we were awaiting a show.

Refuse to sell tea during the intermission and then again after the play, the coffee machine was on.

I went to the Cut Bar & Restaurant with a work colleague and when we left the barman ran after us and accused us of not paying for the last round of drinks (a single pint of beer). He then refused to believe us when we said we had paid and only let us leave after another member of staff checked the till which showed we had paid. There was no apology and after spending more than £50 it was quite upsetting and ruined the evening.

Went to try few small dishes from the starters menu. Very nice chicken skewers and ham croquettes. Staff very friendly, it’s the perfect place for pre-theatre drinks and dinner.

I come here for their tasty cocktails regularly, especially during sunny weather, sitting outside either on the pavement or balcony upstairs. Service is always nice and friendly and cocktails not overpriced and very lightweight. Because it's one of my favourite theatres I go often for plays and accompanying drinks. You can also meet there theatre people having a drink. Last time, for instance, I was sitting next table to Ivo van Hove.

Very disappointed by the service I received. The server took my drink order then disappeared for a while. Since I was near the window I could see her talking to another customer for about 10 minutes outside. Another group came in and she took their food order then proceeded again outside, ignoring me. Luckily, the nice fellow working with her brought the bill for my drink and apologized. Be certain your wait staff treats every patron with due respect.

Great food and great service. Came in with some friends, we ordered some tapas and the main course and the food was really tasty and the service was quick and everyone was really nice.

I Haven't even dined at this establishment yet, but the service was well beyond expectation. I made my dinner reservation 10 days prior to the actual dinner and it was a special occasion, my wife's birthday. Unfortunately the morning of the date we were meant to attend dinner I was called into work for an emergency situation, due to this I was forced to cancel the dinner reservation, nonetheless... I communicated most of the events with Khun Napatorn who informed me that she is one of the owners, since it was my wife's birthday they have already prepared a special complimentary birthday cake for my wife, she kindly asked for my home address in which they had the cake delivered at NO COST whatsoever, and to top it off and make it even more special they have added a complimentary piece of Australian Wagyu steak for our enjoyment, being in the hospitality industry I have to say that this is exceptional service and I look forward to my dining experience in the near future.

En el pasado nos ha gustado ir aquí, ya que es un ambiente agradable y conveniente para luego ir a una obra de teatro. No otra vez, me temo. Mientras que mi esposa disfrutó su plato de pescado, mi supuesto garbanzo y curry de vegetales asados con arroz con hierbas y chutney de mango fue realmente horrible: no se veía un garbanzo a la vista, el arroz con hierbas era simplemente arroz blanco, el chutney de mango simplemente se colocó encima del arroz y las verduras asadas eran 75% calabacines hervidos. Luego tuve el posset de limón con crema y galletas de mantequilla - el postset era de limón, pero el shortbread era del tamaño de mi miniatura. Me quejé por las deficiencias abyectas del curry, pero esto no resultó en una deducción de nuestra factura. A pesar de tener dos platos, cuando estuve en la obra y llegué a casa necesitaba volver a comer, así que era costoso por la cantidad de comida que recibes. I wanna say our server was lovely, no problems there, but the food was inedible. I ordered the risotto and it didn’t resemble a rice dish in anyway. I thought there wasnt any rice in it because the paltry amount was crunchy and i mistook it for nuts. My mother ordered the duck and it was dry and lacked seasoning. Everything we ordered was bland

Sat down and was promptly ignored for 15 minutes by a wait staff that seemed to be struggling to deal with 1/3 their capacity.

Super cool vibes in a semi-formal/artsy/modern styled pub/bar with working space with a decent sized crowd. As it has glass walls, there’s a lot of light which very refreshing. Good food and drinks, would come here again to work or chill!

My friend and I ate here last night. Very friendly waitress and lovely food. We had the vegan wellington and beetroot burger which were both lovely. Vegan and vegetarian friendly but also meet and fish options. The restaurant is conveniently located for Waterloo station.

Tuve un excelente almuerzo aquí hace un año, así que decidí repetirlo ayer. Desastre absoluto. Servicio prácticamente inexistente, aunque la directora fue encantadora. Mi comida estaba TAN grasienta que tuve que devolverla. Lo seguí con un panecillo, lo único disponible para cortar la grasa de los pasteles de pescado que intenté comer, pero no pude. El panecillo obviamente no estaba fresco. Mis dos nietos disfrutaron de sus hamburguesas (no es lo que esperaba encontrar en el menú) pero mi hija tampoco estaba impresionada con su comida. No volvería a ir allí de nuevo. En su defensa, no me cobraron por el plato principal que envié de vuelta. Personal agradable pero no lo suficiente. También es un lugar muy lúgubre. El té recién hecho era delicioso, pero apenas lo suficiente para redimirse. ¡Lo siento!

The Cut may be a curious, if not very original name for a restaurant. It takes its name from the street in which it is located, a quite vibrant thoroughfare in Lambeth, more famous for the Old Vic theatre and its rather newer counterpart the Young Vic, which this restaurant is adjacent to. It is said that on theatre nights, you would be hard pressed to get a table here, but on a regular Friday night, when I visited with the friend who recommended it, business was steady, though not overwhelming. It strikes me that this might be a good pre-dinner venue, as well as a venue in itself, as it has a full bar and an interesting cocktail menu. I also liked the multi-level arrangement, with an upstairs terrace overlooking the street (see pictures). Inside it was rather noisier, with a bare floor and not very good acoustics, but then it isn't exactly the right venue if you're looking for intimate conversation.The food? Surprisingly good, although I did struggle with the menu initially, which doesn't conform to the more familiar starters/mains/dessert scenario. It was categorised by meat/veg/fish, some of which were starters or available in smaller portions, and alternatively there was an interesting choice of tapas, 3 for £11.50 or 5 for £18.50 (see pictures). Refreshingly, there was a good proportion of vegan and gluten free options too - always a bonus. I started with the Sea Bass Ceviche, a chilled starter of diced fish in a lime, coconut and coriander dressing. My colleague opted for the 5 tapas - all beautifully presented (see pictures). This was followed by Peruvian Roast Chicken with rice, and to ensure a good overview, tried the calamari tapas too. All very good. This was accompanied by a very fine Norwegian IPA. Quite an experience. To ensure no stone was left unturned, dessert was Crème Brûlée. Nicely done, with the novelty of being served in a teacup, rather than the more ubiquitous ramekin, and came with a home made cinnamon shortbread. Again, all good.The ultimate verdict really lies in whether I would return. Emphatically, yes. It would be nice to explore the menu further, and I know you will always find a good bite to eat with an interesting choice that is not overpriced. This place isn't fine dining exactly, but it is a cut above the other 'cheap eats' out there. A definitive thumbs up.

Had a pre matinee tapas meal which was really tasty and the waitress was great. Then had dessert and another beer after the show and they had remembered that we were just having desserts and laid table/menu accordingly (nice touch). I recommend the Hazy Daze beer. All round very good.

A peine arrivés à l'hôtel étions-nous en recherche d'un endroit agréable pour notre lunch.Nous sommes tombés très vite sur cet endroit et ne l'avons absolument pas regretté.La qualité du lunch est très bonne et - last but not least - le personnel est particulièrement agréable.

Nice enough but staff struggled with small details like bringing main during starters, despite me asking twice...and silly rules about ordering at bar and taking to table. Food was nice enough but hot tapas weren't hot. Given the plethora of eateries in this area we'll go somewhere else next time.

He estado aquí muchas veces en el pasado, pero parece ser cada vez más popular y animado, especialmente antes de una actuación. Buen menú para una variedad de gustos incluyendo vegano y vegetariano. Y agradables ofertas de bebidas variadas desde gratis hasta precio reducido dependiendo de su bebida. Sin duda, vale la pena ir antes de una actuación, pero es aconsejable reservar, como se dijo antes de que sea popular. El personal es muy amable y eficiente, ¡y también hay pasteles encantadores!

Absolutely fantastic coffee and bacon sandwiches. They get their bread from somewhere special for sure. Great location (just inside the door to the threatre), friendly staff, fair prices considering the quality. Highly recommeded, great place.

We dropped in here before going to see death of a salesman at the young vic. It’s popular- all the tables in the restaurant section were reserved. We got a table for two in the bar area. There were lots of sharing tables and a balcony upstairs. We had Alberino wine at £30 and a selection of 5 tapas dishes for under £20. Chicken with tahini, calamari with chilli jam, spice lamb on nan bread, aubergine with pomegranate and mushroom arancini. It was really good ( not Michelin star territory but a really nice meal). I would recommend it and would go back any day.

Great pop in location for coffee brunch or lunch. No need to reserve. Upstairs outdoor veranda perfect for sunny days.

REALLY enjoyed the burgers. The chicken was moist and tasty and there was plenty of it smothered in a spicy sauce. The beef was slightly pink inside so adding to the enjoyment. A busy place so booking is a good idea.

DONT buy here. Drink before you come Cheapest wine they could find. Never tasted something so bad Such a let down
