Typical English pub. Manager was a racist and a fat shammer. Felt sorry for the staff when they had to apologise on behalf of him. Wouldn’t recommend at all

Stopped here for a quick beer, before heading onto a local cocktail bar. I have to say the beer wasn’t good. Meantime IPA was average and didn’t taste like it should. Also they don’t take card payments for under £10, I can’t recall the last time I went into a pub and this was the case. Experience could have been a lot better. So not overly impressed.

In the era when the pubs are either closing down or turning into gastro pubs it’s a blessing to find one that still maintains its old relaxed style, decor and music. I don’t know what they play on a regular basis, but during my visit I heard Specilas, Led Zeppelin and other 70s and 80s stuff. Let’s keep this place running.

Somehow we always end up wanting to go to the pub around Tottenham Court Road. Not the easies to find a place where you can sit, talk and afford the drinks. This is 5 in walk from the substation and that end of Oxford Street. 2 pints for 7.90 - a bargain! Nice staff!

Si vous passez dans ce quartier, le lieu est très typique et on s'y sent comme à la maison. Ambiance décontractée et accueil agréable. Fréquenté par des locaux avant tout, je recommande ce pub.

I worked near here in the 1980s and returned late last year to find it hadn't changed really except slightly for the worse . It's a small place and popular with the after work crowd and it's basic interior is rather scruffy and in need of an update. Staff are somewhat indifferent and all in all, this is an area you can do better. Presumably some hipsters will take it over and fold it into the Shoreditch massif.

Went in with four friends around 11:30pm last Saturday. Tried ordering five pints but the woman bartender said we could only order from the fridge. Okaaay. We ordered five bottles. Three minutes later a large bouncer comes by and says "You need to leave". We said we just got the beers, can we finish them? "NO, you NEED TO LEAVE" he says, handing us plastic cups. What the hell ever happened to turning the lights up and giving a 15 minute warning? And politeness. Oh well, at least we got some free plastic cups. Never, ever go back.

Came here to ask about an art piece that was installed in the pub until 2013. Was rudely spoken to by both staff and customers. Most likely the clubhouse for the rudeness society.

Popped in for a quick use of the toilet before an interview and asked for a coke. As usual didn't have any cash with me, and because I was unable to pay the bartender offered me the coke for free. Definitely will be coming back. Service like this is worth it. Besides they have really good music. -thanks for the coke! Ps: free coke has nothing to do with review, don't think they were expecting me to do it.

Have been visiting this pub on our trips to London for a number of years and have always been greeted by the ever friendly manager of this pub and the staff employed here. The facilities are well looked after by the team and as this is one pub with staff stability I'm sure Sam Smiths brewery must think the same. I don't know if the company operate a group bonus scheme for the staff, if they do the manager and his team would definitely get one if I had my say. Beer and lager were well kept. Food was just what we expected. Cheers!!

Tried this place as it had a reasonable selection of cask ales. My partner's pint was fine but I had a different ale that appeared very flat, and tasting confirmed this. I took it back to the bar where the barmaid vehemently protested that it was "beer not lager" and was "supposed to taste flat". I advised that I am a regular ale drinker and CAMRA member but she became rather rude and refused to change my pint. I won't be back and I'd recommend checking for freshness before ordering.

We popped in for a pint or two before lunch. There was a faint smell of disinfectant which was slightly off putting to start with, but the beers are kept well and the serving staff friendly enough. It's worth a visit if you find yourself in Shoreditch. There's definitely worse places!!

This is a nice traditional pub, however they insist on playing the music/jukebox at deafening volume. I asked them to turn it down as it was impossible to hold a conversation, which they did. But ten minutes later they turned it back up. I'm not an old fart and I love music, but when it's too loud to hold a conversation with someone sitting next to you, it's a bit ridiculous.

Nice pub, good selection of real ales & craft beers. Also good company and a reassuring lack of Christmas jumpers. Plenty of other bars in the area so a good starting point for a 'beer appreciation tour'.

This is a busy pub in the evenings and probably best visited in the summer when people have more room to spill onto the streets outside. A reasonable selection of beers and lagers albeit a little on the pricey side. Mind you, this is London and this is trendy Shoreditch. I suspect the pub has been around for 100+ years and it's a good enough place to take a break and watch the world go by.

I lived in shoreditch for a while and when you want to go to a decent local, that;s slightly below the london average in terms of price, just have a couple of pints and a conversation it's perfect. I know loads of bars and pubs in the area have the mood completely killed when the 'city lads' come in on the shots at 8pm on a weekday, you don't need to worry about that in the brickies, everyone's just there to have a reasonably nice time. there's very rarely any posers or shoreditch types around in there, it's a breath of fresh air in the area I think.

Had a pint in here as part of a little pub crawl, fairly empty and therefore devoid of atmosphere on a Saturday afternoon (contrast this to the nearby Ten Bells which was very busy). Did have a very good juke box and perhaps comes alive at night..

In its hey day propbably a half decent boozer. These days it looks and feels like an old sports coat that you don't want to give away. You don't wear it anymore but hang onto it for sentimental reasons. The indoor air was stale and heated to about 400 degrees. The staff disinterested and the quality of liquors on offer was bog standard. With the plethora of decent drinking holes nearby not sure I'd give this place another blast.

I have loved Sam Smith's beer for ages, and Bricklayers arms used to be favourite. We were in there this weekend for a mate's birthday the management was so rude and offensive we will never go back again. Also, I don't believe the bar as been cleaned in the last decade either. There are loads of nice pubs, and two other Sam Smith's pubs within walking distance. I would avoid the Bricklayer's Arms at all cost.

Sunday. .... Maybe she didn't want to be there but don't spoil it for your customers. It's an okay pub and we have been there more than once but you won't go back if you get bad service. You will return to a pub where the owners and the staff are friendly. Its not hard to smile and be gracious that doesn't cost anything .... maybe hiring young staff who don't understand pub culture is not the best idea for your business. We won't be back its been crossed off the list as there are many more choices in the area.

We came here at the recommendation of a friend after touring the British Museum. Although it was cold and they were having an issue with the heaters not working , the room upstairs had comfy seating and a roaring fireplace that took the cold away. Got to catch up with old mates and the drinks were fabulous!! Can't say anything about the food, we had packets of crisps, but the pints... Best atmosphere at a London pub I've had yet

Staying in Shoreditch we began a search for a curry, but walked in the opposite direction of Brick Lane ... schoolboy error! We ended up in Hackney, bit could find only Vietnamese restaurants packed to the gunnels. Luckily we found the Bricklayers Arms down a side street, which has a Thai restaurant upstairs. On the surface it's a bit unprepossessing, but the food did the talking. Superb fishcakes to start and then absolutely delicious curries and rice. Lots of beer available on tap too. Recommended.

Consistently good food from this great neighbourhood takeaway and shop. The flat breads are particularly good. We used to enjoy eating in when there was seating, but it’s still great to go and get a coffee and a sandwich here. Highly recommend, whether you are vegan or not.
