Amazing food and services.served by the handsome Luke. Pub is well worth a visit. Historic building full of character.

We saw the good reviews when searching for a roast after some shopping, and safe to say the reviews don’t do this place justice. The food was delicious, great selection of drinks, and the staff were attentive and friendly. Can’t wait to come back for pudding - I’ll save some room next time!

Fantastic sausage egg n chips today. Hairy Dog beer was good as well. I always enjoy a day in the Shades. Will be back again soon

I came in at 11am for some food before work and had a sandwich made for me in the space of five minutes excellence service such detail to flavour and well looked after very good prices at the food is absolutely delicious!

General manager is a 10/10 guy. Lovely burgers, interesting decor, good vibes. I would recommend to a friend; Guinness is good.

I had the Lamb shank with side order of vegetables. It was truly scrumptious and a good portion. Nicole and her team were very attentive and asked if we needed anything. Will definitely go back. Highly recommend this pub.

My wife and i been coming here for many years. Always good beer and good food. Today we had the special. Cod, cabbage and potato. Absolutely brilliant. Well done chef

If you are a medical cannabis user do t come here pub owner discriminates against people who use Evan if they keep it at home:) pub owner in general is a nice bloke. Shame he made a uncomfortable situation for me while I tried to drink my drink. Cheers

Been a few times to the Brewery Shades, lovely old pub with knowledgeable and helpful staff. A great range of ciders for my husband are always available and a better range of cocktails for me. Food has always came up exactly as I have asked for it (one very picky eater), and has been delicious and extremely filling with generous portion sizes.

Visited with a few friends and had a fantastic time! Variety of ciders which the other half was pleased about and some fantastic cocktails… The food was lovely and they were able to accommodate our requests. Great customer service!! Defo recommend a visit if you’re in the area you won’t be disappointed.

In 2022 we went during our two trips to Crawley many times to the pub since we loved the drinks, the food and the atmosphere in there. Now little more than a year later, we felt there was new management as everything was different there. The service was weird as the employees were more into grinning and trying to be cheerful instead of being of service. They advertise a Sunday roast but on the Sunday we went there, there was no roast to be sold as there were some problems in the kitchen. During our previous many visits there was a very nice man working there and was very much into service and we felt like he was the owner. This has most likely and very sadly changed. What a shame.........

IMO, the best pub in Crawley town centre! They have a great selection of beers, ciders & porters throughout the year. They also serve decent pub grub with some of the best chunky chips I’ve tasted. There are two disappointments: the ladies loo is upstairs with tiny cubicles (my wife tells me) & have been closed several Monday lunchtimes.

This pub looked inviting from the outside and didn't disspoint once inside. A good range of beers with a friendly host helping us choose. A good choice of food too. Great pub and near the bus stop to get to the airport!

Ordered the roast pork and apple sauce sandwich with roast pot and gravy on side,potatoes were OK, frozen and fried but ok, the sandwich was dripping with gravy, I did raise with server and said I didn't realise sandwich had gravy on , I said I thought came with apple sauce,she said she will go and speak to kitchen, when she came back no mention of the gravy which was my issue she just said that they had put apple sauce on the sandwich,and she gave me a small jar of apple puree, I ate as much as I could after scraping gravy from bread but I did not enjoy as bread very soggy, pork not good, was like the boiled in bag ,gravy you can buy,pity as of server had just went and got me fresh sandwich minus gravy , I would of eaten though, setting was nice and comfortable.

From entering we were greeted by friendly staff. Our orders were taken and we were served very quickly. The food was very good. I'm vegetarian and there was a good range of vegetarian and vegan food available. My partner eats meat and reported that the roast meats were good. It's been over a year since our last visit and the standards are just as good, possibly better.

The best place in Crawley to sit down for a beer, a cocktail or a glass of white or red wine. A great place to sit down inside or outside. You can also order some good food there at a very reasonable price This is a CAMRA award winning bar stocked with 10 real ales, 8 traditional ciders and over 35 varieties of gin. The Mule was outstanding cocktail in the blazing sun with some finger food to enjoy with it. You better visit this bar and pub when you are in Crawley!!!

came to this lovely little pub with my wife and son and food was excellent the staff were friendly and hospitable the service was first class i will certainly be back

We love the Shades, good food, great music and reasonable priced drinks. The only issue was not being able to book a table in advance

5 of us from work wanted to find somewhere that we could walk in to for a couple of drinks and have a good load of food to share and Brewery Shades did not disappoint! We ordered nearly everything from the starter menu and it all arrived quickly, was really tasty, great portion sizes and the service was just really lovely! Love that it’s an old pub and it felt very cosy. Thanks for a great evening. We’ll be back!

We came here for my Nan’s birthday meal. We had a roast, deserts and drinks over a few hours. The food selection was fantastic with amazing selections for Vegan and Vegetarians. Both the music and the staff were positive and brilliant! I loved the way...

Awesome sandwich! Barman even delivered a toothpick to my table. This was required as the sandwich had so much meat, it was stuck in my chops!😋🤪

Delicious home cooked quality pub meals in a quaint pub. The sizzling chicken and the smoothered chicken went down a treat with a good hand pump stout. Everything coming out the kitchen looked great as well. The staff were all polite and friendly. Many thanks!

The Brewery Shades is hands down one of the best pubs in Crawley, the atmosphere and decor gives you a feeling of being in a true British pub! This is topped with happing excellent bar staff giving you the best recommendations on some of the best ales and gin you can find in Crawley, extremely friendly, very kind and most importantly incredible helpful! If you dont go to this pub you're missing out!!!

What can I say excellent service. Came with with a couple of friends for a birthday night out. Great place to talk catch up and have a well priced drink. The staff was all in uniform (a surprise as most pubs dont have uniform) greeted with a smile and the cocktails went down a treat! Have since returned with my partner and son who cant get enough of the quality of the the steak and the children's menus. Having a bad experience in franky and bennies came here and is now our favourite place to eat out and children are also welcome witch is a hard find in crawley, even went out of there way to get drawing and colouring in books for him. Keep up the good work

I would not bother with this pot hole of a pub again. The staff are at best incompetent and very rude. On an evening out I ordered 2 drinks a rose and a G & T with lime. got handed a G & T with lemon << anyone else see the mishap here? I polity pointed out the drink was not correct and asked if it could be changed to reflect hat I had ordered. BAR MAN: it makes no difference do you want the drink or notME: they taste different and I requested lime not lemon, so could you plead change it? BAR MAN: no, I have made the drink now so are you going to pay for it or not. ME: I will pay when I have the correct drinkBAR MAN: (takes drinks of bar) Get out

Stopped off for breakfast for the first time last weekend. A very good vegetarian breakfast and a normal full English. It was lovely as was the coffee. The staff were very pleasant. Yes would defiantly go again

We were there last week, the decor is very pleasant, friendly staff, good food and quick service. Our favorite place for an evening meal, in a relaxed - but not too noisy!- atmosphere!

Most parts of this pub look more like a restaurant than a pub, but the bar area is mostly for drinkers. This is a good pub with quality ales. Prices are ok for this part if the country. BUT: over two days I had four different ales, all were dead in the glass - like drinking squash! No head, no life, no lacings. Poor beer, poor cellarmanship, poor glasses, or a glasswasher issue? In hindsight, I should have taken them all back. This place could do a lot better.

I requested a taste of a beer with which I was not familiar. The charming barmaid fetched a sample from behind a door (the cellar?).

Popped in with four of my mates for some pre-curry beers. We were made very welcome by Luke and were treated to a great selection of beers and an epic homemade scotch egg! Splendid stuff.😎

Went for drinks in there Friday Night. where they had buy one get one free on Cocktails. All of them delicious especially the Bar mans Luke's special, Nice atmosphere this charming pub has had a revamp. Nice friendly staff. I live locally so definitely be back for cocktails.

I don’t no wether in the last five years there has been a change in owner or a real shake up but I went to the brewery shades on a Wednesday to pass some time and ordered a pint of Guinness that was very well and creamy something that is hard to come by in the England so that lead to a couple more that then lead me and my girlfriend to buy food a roast sandwich just don't sound right but believe me the brewery shades roast sandwich will show you how right it is absolutely fantastic then me and my girlfriend went again for a Sunday roast and the same high standard on Guinness and food occurred again the staff are very pleasant and friendly and have made me feel different about Crawley well done brewery shades the word will get around how great it is

9 or 10 real ales on and all in good condition. Bar manager is a very friendly chap who has been there for years. This is the 3rd time I've visited before flying out the next day and I have never been disappointed.

We’re not from the area so can’t compare with other places in the town, we came in Brewery Shades by chance and had a nice time. It offers many varieties of ale and regular lagers. The bar server we spoke to was very knowledgable and friendly. Very reasonable prices on drinks too. It’s a lovely cosy traditional pub and we would return if we happened to be in the area again.

First time I have eaten here and I was pleasantly surprised. Generous portions and good quality. + Old Speckled Hen on pump - perfect.

What a fabulous friendly place! Having tried a couple of other pubs in the High Street and been extremely disappointed I stopped here before heading back to the hotel. Luke behind the bar recommended great beer and convinced me to eat too. Food was fabulous and Ben the waiter was brilliant. Top marks!!! We had walked around Crawley and wanted to find a spot for lunch. We had a look at a few venues on High Street, but as it was a lovely sunny day, opted to give Brewery Shades a try. It had a pleasant outside eating area out the front of the pub with tables chairs and umbrellas for shade. We ordered inside first. The pub offers traditional pub food with specials and a good bar including cocktails. The service was good, prices reasonable. We enjoyed it.

Amazing food in this beautiful pub, scotch eggs are a must. Service was fantastic especially Luke who is welcoming and friendly.

I stopped here with a friend on a Friday night, having walked past countless times. The inside was surprisingly nice, with a fairly cosy seating area for dining. Drinks prices were on the cheaper side, with some surprisingly cheap drink deals. The staff were friendly and overall it was nice and pleasant and much more enticing atmosphere than the Wetherspoons opposite!

Dropped in early on a Sunday evening end of June while staying at Gatwick airport - found a great place for a pint!

Came upon this pub and decided to have a meal here. I spoke to the chef who recommended the pork belly. They were super helpful and I ate pork belly with mashed potatoes and peas with onion gravy. Meal was absolutely delicious. I would eat here more often if i lived in the area. Chef Luke was super charming and knowledgeable.

Popped in here for a quick drink. The bar staff were wonderful, making suggestions on what to have. The venue is very quaint, lots of seating. Large array of drinks to choose from and the food menu looked good too, although we did not eat.

Jusy had the sunday lunch, roast beef followed by sticky toffee pudding and ice cream,,,, comforting isnt the word. Just what i needed today to nurse a hangover. Deffo coming herr again . Cheers

Been working down in Crawley for 6 months. Shades has had a nice re furb at Easter meals are all really reasonably priced as are the drinks. Would highly recommend this pub, another plus is the liver bacon and onion gravy fantastic

They remodeled and brightened up the interior. They serve local cask ales usually about 4 - 5. Full bar and wine selection. Menu has full pub fare of fish n chips, sausages, pies, burgers, etc. I've only had beer so can't comment on food.

Booked for 5 for mothers day. Food is reasonably priced. We all chose different meals, all came out together and tasted fantastic. Mother in law claimed they were the best roast potatoes she'd had in years. Staff helpful and friendly

I hate this place because inside is so uppy downy and the ceilings are quite low so I bang my head.

Overall a very poor experience!. One Cheeseburger meal & one Roast Pork meal. Cheeseburger was thrown together on a cold unappetizing bun, with the end of the onion bits in it, no burger sauce/Ketchup/mustard just dry & awful.Roast Pork slices didn't taste to bad to be honest, but the veg tasted well past it's sell by date. All drown in a Luke warm gloopy gravy. Left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll give the staff credit for trying to rectify it by offering a alternative. Decided on a refund & ate elsewhere. Shame as I've eaten here before & it's been Good, Chef needs to pull his socks up.

Directly opposite the Wetherspoons and an equally good selection of ale, lovely old building amidst a surviving attractive High St. Certainly worth crossing the road to sample their ales particularly as it invcluded taylors Landlord. Food was popular but did not try it, football on the tvs too

We stopped by for lunch in this traditional old pub. Good food, reasonably priced food, courteous friendly service and the ale is well kept too: old speckled hen. We had fish pie and surf n turf; all good. Highly recommended

I ordered some food from here via Deliveroo. 4 hours after eating they're roast beef and horseradish sandwich i had violent stomach cramps and was vomiting for 3 hours. I felt like i was going to literally die. Tried calling and no-one picks up so i am going to pay them a visit. Only i eat that sandwich and i work in catering. I had quick set food poisening and if a child got it i think they would have needed to go to hospital. I do not recommend this business.

Had dinner here a few times now and the steak is one of the best in Crawley. Not too bad cost wise and so far always good quality. Bar staff normally friendly if not at points a bit short some evenings.

As I approached through the modern shopping centre, I was expecting a galls and concrete pub. However the building dates back over 600 years and is reassuringly brown. There is a fine selection of cask beer and real cider, and while didn't try the food, it looked good value. The service was pleasant and the prices keen. It seems to be an attractive alternative to the national chain pub across the road.

Great selection of beers. The food is very reasonable and typical pub food. Order at the bar and they bring it to your tables, hot and ready to eat. I'd recommend the brie burger.

I ordered the chicken gougons with salad, the chicken was badly overcooked and the salad was stale and dry, when I mentioned this I was told replacement would come. After 20 mins of waiting I gave up

As the title says in my humble opinion! Good choice of beers, excellent value food and when there is a big rugby game on you'll find it here on the screens. Good size seating area outside too...

Definitely place to have pint or two in Crawley. Lovely staff they really like their customers. Food is so so. Wasn’t really good burger however it was served well and staff was so enthusiastic that at he end taste wasn’t Important ( just to say- really plain burger no spices , nothing ,empty bun , piece of lettuce - really really poor burger. Please change it guys !!!)

Having recently spent a week in Crawley and passed through the majority of the towns drinking establishments, I feel I have to commend the Brewery Shades here for a number of reasons.

Very old looking pub this place. Weather wad great so planned to sit in the beer garden. How wrong was i the bar staff well to put it plainly were horrible and i got the impression that this was a local pub for local people as i was overlooked to be served twice so that regulars would have a beer. Went across the road to the white hart where wasmade very welcome

Visited Brewery Shades for a drink to refresh the soul and a lunch to refresh the body. It failed on neither, with a selection of good draught beers ( a CAMRA winner for many years) and hot pork and apple sandwiches with roast potatoes and a gravy bowl! Excellent.

Pleasant Old Pub, nice atmosphere. But a very long wait for our food. How ever when it did arrive it was very good.

Went in with 2 friends yesterday and our kids for some light lunch. The food portionas where way more than we expected! And extremly nice. Staff are really friendly..definatly worth a trip

We popped in the pub a couple of days ago and it was afternoon so pretty much empty . We sat and I ordered some food , and a coke . While the staff was taking my order were laughing between them which was rather rude and it resulted them mot hearing about the coke . After about ten minutes passed I asked for my drink and the waitress said yes , but she ignored me . After another few minutes she advised that I had not order a coke ,but I didn't know what exactly I had ordered and paid for in the first place as she did not give me a receipt . I had to go pay at the till again for my coke .The cherry on the cake was when the waitress brought my coke , a lady that seemed like the manager came and took it for herself ! Right after that she realised and said 'Oh , was that for the customer ?' My chicken club sandwich was very big but tasted a lot like garlic , and is was cold , so I had to leave it . I also had ordered sweet potato fries which were not properly cooked and hard . The meal was below average . When we asked to close the window as it was cold the lady that previously took my coke seemed annoyed but she eventually came and closed it . There were more than 4 people working at that time in an empty pub, however we felt that the service was rather poor , rude and slow and that we were a pain to them as soon as we stepped on that door . I would never go back as I felt very unwelcoming and wouldn't want to eat that food again .

Visited here with my wife and daughter while xmas shopping in December, we thought the food was very good, a bit slow but the pub was packed so must be popular, calamari starter was the best I’ve tasted and wasn’t the usual batter stuff you get in most places, it was some sort of Coating and very pleasant, burgers were both good and chefs sticky toffee was delicious , nice coffee but to be fair could have been hotter.

Popped in for a few drinks while wasting a day before flying from Gatwick. Great pub, friendly bar staff, very cosy. Didn’t try the food as some good restaurants near by. Best pub we found on our little pub crawl.
