Brew Garden in East Hertfordshire

Lovely tea & slice of blueberry & lemon cake. Such a shame that so many tables were covered in crumbs & needed a good wipe. Stayed 45mins & table opposite was never cleared of cups/plates even though it was quiet. Staff too busy chatting. Bit of staff training needed as could have been a much nicer experience

This used to be our favourite place in Hertford but it wasn't in a good way on Wednesday this week. Unbelievably slow service, and the staff were making mistakes but not appearing to care much. The cafe was half empty so the staff couldn't have been overworked, but perhaps they were new or poorly trained. The coffee when it arrived was good though not very hot, and the sandwich nice.

Spent a glorious afternoon yesterday sitting outside the Brew Garden . All the staff were extremely friendly and very helpful with chooses of food and drinks Ivan made some amazing cocktails which made the afternoon even better. Will return again. Thanks .

Visited Brew Garden for lunch. Were so well looked after by all the staff but special mention for Ivan. He was chatty, friendly & professional. Wine , both white & Rose , was really nice. Also, lunch was delicious. A great place and will certainly be getting another visit. Dave M

We came here for evening drinks and had beer and wine. The decor is beautiful, staff are attentive and helpful and the atmosphere was great.

This was my favourite coffee in Herts but it depends what staff are serving now. Staff are really nice all of them, but coffee very downhill now. I was in a little while ago and there were staff training other staff, saying a flat white only has one shot of coffee in. Flat white and latte tasted really bad. Had them remade and they were just as bad. Gave them a week and went back, discussed the flat white and was told yes they have 2 shots in, a 1 shot flat white would just be a small latte. Unfortunately the flat white and latte with extra shot were even worse than before. Partner said the flat white tasted worse than nescafe 3 in 1 and my latte tasted worse than an off brand petrol station and definitely had no extra shot flavour let alone any real coffee taste. Seems like staff training and quality control isn't where it should be, really sad considering we would go out of our way to come here before. The staff that made such nice coffee before haven't been on the machine recently when we've been. Seems others agree as the place was consistently busy while coffee lab across the road was nearly empty before. This time it had switched and coffee lab was busy and there was only one other person in brew garden and nobody else came in while we were there even though town was busy. Really sad, I'd rather get a wetherspoons or high street chain than risk spending best part of a tenner on watery piss coffee again 😞

£3 for what's nothing more than an expresso with a bit of foam on it, for which I was charged an extra 40p because it was made from oat milk - It was foam, not milk for goodness sake. Sorry, but that's just taking the Mick!!! There are a lot of coffee shops in Hertford with more planned for 2025. I am far from tight, but I'm not going to be ripped off again at this place. Also, the counter staff could be a bit more welcoming and the guy making my £3 coffee shot was just miserable. If you're going to fleece your customers, you could at least do it with a smile! As they say on that famous TV program, "Not for me, I'm out!"

Very nice food and coffee, it was busy but we were served quickly and got a seat. I found the music on a strange choice, EDM type stuff, but otherwise the atmosphere was friendly and comfortable.

Had a fantastic night at Brew Gardens. Witnessed a small group of people out with laptops doing interviews late in the evening. Initially this made the room very uncomfortable due to trying to have a nice evening out of work. It turned out to be interviews but I believe the managers name was Asad, handled it fantastically and unfortunately got a lot of abuse which was unnecessary but handled it very professionally and once they left had a fantastic night! Thank you brew gardens for a fantastic afternoon work drink.

Went for their amazing hot chocolates and they did not disappoint! It was delicious and thick. The lovely barista gave me advice on whether to add milk or not. Lovely atmosphere and great interior. Very busy so you may struggle to get a seat as it’s clearly popular. Lovely place and have already been back for their delicious Italian hot chocolate.

I visited this coffee shop recently and unfortunately, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. The barista, a bald man with a beard, was extremely rude to the other staff members. He spoke to them in a condescending tone and seemed to belittle them in front of customers, which made the whole atmosphere uncomfortable. As for the coffee (flat white), it was just average—nothing special. It was overly milky. Definitely not worth the visit, and I won’t be coming back.

Popped in for a coffee and Panini with my wife after hearing how great their coffees’s were. Admittedly, they were very very tasty and expertly presented. Unfortunately that is where the enjoyment ended. We ordered a couple of Panini’s at the same time as the coffees; after finishing our drinks with no appearance of our food I approached the counter, but was ignored until I waited in the normal service queue. I asked about the panini’s and got a response from the staff of having no recollection of a food element to the order; likely because during the order placing the staff member seemed disinterested in our custom and more interested in what was being discussed with a middle aged gentleman assumed to be the manager/proprietor.

It has a nice ambience, coffee is good, but unfortunately none of the staff knew about gluten in products. What does "low gluten" mean? It either has or hasn't got gluten in it. Disappointing as my wife couldn't take the risk to eat what looked like lovely food.

Best coffee place in Hertford, has WiFi and plug points for laptop users. Unlike coffee lab, you can use your laptop on the tables. Food is just preprepared as it's not really a food place, no kitchen.

My husband has been using this Cafe for his daily coffee after walk into town since this place opened. I often join him. However, he has become exasperated that increasingly it has become a place for laptop or iPad users to take up the best seats with no drink or food in front of them. And still there after he has left. Staff seem not to mind? The Lab opposite is better organised. Downstairs for patrons. Upstairs for IT users. Will start to go there - or elsewhere.

Average coffee with okay surroundings. Service is pleasant but inconsistent - sometimes they bring drinks to the table others you have to pick up from the counter.

I was looking for a spot for a quick breakfast before meeting a client prior to the start of a hearing in the nearby courthouse. Brew Garden appealed to me at the sight of the giant espresso machines exported from Italy. Apart from a double macchiato i ordered a salami toastie. All very impressive once it arrived but the service was not as dynamic as the coffee machines and indeed was anything but espresso. Also other equipment must have been malfunctioning as there was a cash only policy in operation.

We popped in on a busy Saturday, but there was still enough seating. Had coffee and a sandwich. Both very good. We also purchased 250g of ground coffee for home and the people at the counter were very helpful about the product and how to get the best from brewing it at home. V friendly, relaxed and good value.

I was back in Hertford this summer ( grew up there ) Popped in here. The staff were very helpful, going out of their way to make something that wasn’t even on the menu. I spent a couple of hours sitting outside writing as the people of hertford went about their merry ways, unperturbed by the hurly burly that is London, a stone throws down the road

£22 for these two ‘espresso martinis’ Tasted watery, no glass, no garnish Charging £11 a cocktail when it looks like this is ridiculous

I walked in today to get a coffee, three people behind the bar, I waited patiently without being acknowledged, one guy especially could have acknowledged me as he didn’t look that busy, but after waiting 3-5 mins I decided to leave. I’ll give 3/5 as it has been better previously, but it wasn’t even busy in there today so I found it odd.

Stopped by for drink on Friday evening, service was very friendly, drink was nice and atmosphere was nice.

Poor show …twice I asked a guy with his “reactive” labelled dog to just move out of the door way so I could get in to cafe.. staff member behind till watching does nothing… says nothing almost as if I’m in the wrong..just stares at me…guy with dog just Ignores me.. u lost business today brew garden!!!!

Came here a few weeks ago with a friend on a Friday night. We'd been for dinner elsewhere but then fancied a cocktail (perfect with the 2 for £14 offer) and dessert. We were both after a decaf espresso martini but they were having issues with the machine I believe so Angel stepped in and made us the most incredible Mocha Cocktail (i can't remember the name of it) but it was incredible. That teamed with a chocolate dessert made for a great end to a Friday night. The ambience in there is lovely at this time and it's perfect for those of us over 35 who no longer wish to go to the local pubs. Wish it was busier as it's a really good place to go to in the evening. Highly recommend!

Great coffee in a great location. Have only had food here once and it was just okay. Service is generally excellent, but have encountered unfriendly staff a couple of times.

My girlfriend and I come here daily and for us it’s a wonderful experience. The staff are always lovely and friendly and the manager goes out of his way to have a chat with us every day. Terrible customer service. Sat at waited for coffee to be barked at to collect our drinks from the counter. To then see a man having his served to the table! Wasn't even a proper latte! More like Luke warm milk with a splash of coffee. Over rated in my opinion and over priced. I would of gone somewhere else had I known how rude the staff were.

My husband stops by most days. I visit regularly. Good coffee. Good staff. Needs a major refurb already. Stained seats everywhere.

First time visiting this place today and left buzzing. Cool, contemporary vibe, immaculately clean, cool decor, friendly welcoming staff. And dog friendly. Had the iced lattes- great value for money and tasted amazing. Will be back!

only good thing was the decor but the atmosphere was pretty meh, completely overpriced coffee, i have to have decaf for health reasons and i was charged an additional 40p? effectively charging me more for not having “real” coffee??? the staff were quite blunt and didnt really seem to care about the service they were giving, coffee itself was pretty standard but i ordered a cortado and received a flat white with a cortado sized glass of water? (pic attached) was very confused. overall dont think ill bother going back unless its the only place open.

Good quality coffee and good Pilsner. Nice view into the square to watch things go by. Toilets always clean!

Brew Garden is my local everyday stop to start my day, atmosphere always relaxing, drinks and food are prepared with smiles and good. Staff are fantastic, Natalia is so personable and remembers everyone's orders, always smiling and giving morning chats, great job Natalia you are a keeper. All staff are great. Rosey

Amazing staff and service, they remember your drinks and are so friendly I only go on weekends but it does not matter how busy they are they serve with a smile and make you feel so welcome. Absolutely love to go there on weekends now.

Really nice and polite staff. Very friendly... but, the housekeeping needs attention. Visited a number of times, but repeatedly i have been unable to find a clean table.. i am now sat at a table with the prior customers mess still here. I have been served at the table promptly, but the debris was not taken away or the table cleaned, and 5 minutes later, i am counting 9 other tables that have not been cleared away since i sat down either. Just serving drinks is not enough! In view of the clear mark-up on the price of a coffee (with service) these days, no-one wants to pay for a coffee and then have to sit and drink it in someone elses mess. I only complain as this has happened every time i have come here, regardless of whether they have 1 or 3 staff on duty. Dissapointed!

Good coffee when a good Barista is serving else can bad. Even if you want to sit in they ask you to wait for your coffee to be made on a quiet or busy day. If you go in on your own on a busy day this means by the time your cofffee comes you will have lost the seat you had your eye on. It also has no WiFi Coffee lab across the way bring your coffee to you and have WiFi.

£3.10 for a diet coke in a warm glass - not great. Ambience is nice but not really worth the price, and staff didn’t really seem very interested in customers.

A warm and cozy cafe, with a great selection of good coffee's. Well set out, with a corner location and a good view of busy Hertford, good for people watching. Some cakes and pastries are fresh and tasty, the hot chocolate is something else, a very delicious thick , dark, almost dessert like, when chosen with whipped cream, it's hard to beat. Staff are always friendly and helpful, highly recommended.

We ordered coffees one decaf latte tasted exactly the same as a normal latte. Really tasty coffee, lovely place inside and friendly staff. Perfect for a rainy afternoon.

Worst nachos I have ever witnessed- chopped up bits of pepper on top of cold value brand plain crisps with a microwaved topping of congealed cheese. No concept of taste, quality or value. When I explained that I could not eat them and was not prepared to pay almost £8 for them- no care was given at all. A mere shrug of the shoulders. I would be so embarrassed if I served such awful food.

Always like the coffee here. Probably the best in Hertford. BUT. They forgot about me and I sat there for 15 mins before going to remind them I'd ordered. (Other people arriving later got their coffee) Worse still, the young chap behind the counter cut me short in conversation. Best not to employ people front of house who cannot deal politely with the public.

I was recommended by a friend and so pleased I went , gorgeous cocktails especially the expresso martini was just perfect , the staff were friendly and kind a great atmosphere too . Look forward to returning soon

£6.50 for a pint of IPA in a coffee bar in Hertford? I don’t think so … this isn’t central London. Didn’t even come in the correct branded glass …

We come here fairly regularly and realy like it. but today both our coffees had too much foam. Late and a flat white. More than half the cup was just foam.

Popped into brew garden today, lovely coffee and great pastries. Staff behind the bar were great, molly was particularly lovely and very informative about the business and its coffee. Will definitely be returning!

Really like this cafe. Great staff and nice pastries and enjoyed sitting outside people watching! Coffee was good, stronger than I usually drink but I definitely enjoyed the experience and have been back already.

I’m a coeliac and having seen the staff just make a sandwich I asked if they could wash their hands before making me a coffee. They were completely happy to do so and also washed the milk jugs and other appliances they were using. Amazing service and thank you!

I've visited this place twice, and had a lovely experience each time. The music is not loud, just right. The ambience is relaxing. The drinks and specialty coffees are amazing. Definitely recommend.

Lovely little pub with decent beer!

The atmosphere and staff make this place, but unfortunately the coffee is a little too bitter for my taste.

My second visit to this coffee shop, first time coffee was sent back as cold. Thought I would give it another go with my family, I asked for extra hot due to previous experience. Coffee was cold again! When I said it was cold, there was no apology just an eye roll. Coffee was just snatched away and both cups were put directly under milk steamer and reheated. Poor service and attitude, this place could be so much more as it’s prime location and it looks so inviting. Won’t be back for third chance!

Had a really nice coffee, a mocha, and chocolate croissant here. The coffee was delicious and presentation was lovely. Pastry was nice. A little pricey for me but good for a lovely treat! I appreciate that they allow dogs here and the place looked really nice. My only suggestion would be to get new menus as ours was a little worn out/torn.

Visited brew garden for the first time last week. Lovely place, friendly staff which makes for a great atmosphere. Coffee was great and you could see the staff really took their time to make sure the consumer was happy and enjoyed their time in the shop. If you find yourself in Hertford would definitely recommend you pop in.

Popped down to Brew garden last week and I was amazed. First of all the coffee that I received was exceptional. Not too hot and not too cold, exactly how it should be. The pizza that followed was so good it made my partner jealous so I had to order one for her as well. Not to mention the staff politeness was a nice touch. Staff in other coffee shops/restaurants in Hertford have been very ignorant and not helpful at all. The furniture was also super creative! 10/10 would defo recommend!

Unfriendly staff !! Dirty tables and floor. A broken glass window panel which has been there for months... I should have gone to Cafe Nero for my tea !! Cleaner and friendlier !!!

The place is in a good location. I went inside and i loved the forniture and design. It looks like.a garden. I tried a mocha and coffee was amazing. The chocolate was a real.thick chocolate. Since then, I go often. It is a friendly place and dog friendly too You find people for lunch or having coffe while reading. If you are hungry, they make a good pizza as well!!

This is a great stop. Prefect mix of a cafe/bar/pizza place. I have been there for drinks (wine is very well selected) and pizza (very nice with good selection of flavours) with friends. I have popped in for a takeaway coffee, as it’s so good. It nice to see this kinda place. Staff have always been friendly with great sense of humour. Will be popping in for a panini soon.
