Brets in West Oxfordshire

Positives: Food was delicious, the menu provided lots of options for vegetarians (you could make any burger veggie). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Negatives: On the expensive side. Finding the entrance was a little difficult as the new location is down an alley way. Summary: Very enjoyable meal. Love the new location. Will be visiting again.

Great experience with Brett’s, the food was brilliant and the service and Steve the owner was very accommodating, would throughly recommend it.

Greeted with a Warm welcome. Large Breakfast Menu. We ordered the Ultimate Breakfast and it was Superb!! Well worth it.

Not surprised it’s closed. Ok food but way overpriced. Saw it coming. Probably the most expensive restaurant in Witney

Booked Brets on a whim having not been there before, had a nice meal with the family, portions were good and the food was well cooked and presented. Staff were friendly and attentive enough without being irritating. Will definitely go again and it goes to show that decent'proper' food is still out there. Looking forward to another visit.

20 mins to get drinks. Burgers sat waiting for 20 mins for chips to be cooked. Chips raw in middle. All very apologetic but no offer of discount. Service is slow and food quality bad. Do not go,

We visited Brets on a Saturday afternoon. The inside was completely empty bar 2 people at another table, however there were a couple of tables outside with people as it was a lovely day. We were seated quickly but that’s pretty much where the good service ended. We waited around 15 mins to order our drinks then another 10 mins to order our food. Whilst waiting for our food we had finished our drinks and wanted to order more, all the young staff had disappeared or if they did come into the dining area they huddled up at the pass laughing and joking. We had to result in phoning the restaurant just to get someone’s attention. We found the lack of professionalism from the staff very off putting, food and drinks were basically dumped on the table. I paid extra for a wagu burger and was asked if I would like it medium or well done, I asked for medium. When it arrived the meat was very coarse, chewy and it was overcooked, also the so called triple cooked chips were more like frozen oven chips, they were neither crispy or fluffy. Service throughout was very slow and we had to sit around again waiting for the table to be cleared so we could ask for the bill. Considering the whole experience I feel it was considerably overpriced. Having worked in the hospitality business for over 25 years I would strongly recommend the manager deliver some customer service training to their staff.

Had the unfortunate pleasure of eating at Brets. We entered the establishment and were surprised at how empty it was on a Saturday lunchtime. After spending 20 mins in the place we finally got our orders taken for drinks, this was fortunate as I am not a Saudi Arabian camel and require fluid to survive. After the drinks had been supped , which to be honest were nice (I had the Brets home brew), we wanted to make the most of the weather and partake on another tipple. Unfortunately the staff who were obviously part of the magic circle had all disappeared, and I had to physically phone the restaurant to get someones attention to take our drinks order. Following the sub standard food, I think the wagu burger was poorly cooked and served and the chips were raw in the middle and not tripple cooked as advertised, the fire alarm went off for a few minutes throughout our meal, however none of the staff offered either an apology or explanation as to why, this is because they pretty much ignored it and offered no reassurance to the customers regarding safety. The staff members have the speed of a group of sloths, the inability to identify customers needs,take orders or clear tables and ultimately the insolent attitude of what can only be described as a Kevin and Perry remake. The staff lack any form of proffessionalism, this was evidenced from witnessing them holding loud personal conversations, neglecting their customers and raucous laughing whilst in the restaraunt is what i would expect from a group of immature teenagers trying to prove that they are part of the cool kids in a playground. The server who finally collected our plates, obviously lost some movement in his arms as he could only shrug his shoulders and flick his hands in the air like a disgruntled child as he stated" you wan anyfin else", I did feel sorry for him as it apeared as if somebody had literally rolled him out of bed to come to work, that could be the only reason I could think of as to why he demonstrated the enthusiasm of roadkill. Needless to say we are now fully aware of why the place was so empty on a Saturday. I would recommend that if anybody expects a decent service and quality for your money to avoid going to brets. Save yourself the time and money, just grab yourself a sandwich from the garage and go to your local school in the lunch hour and you can get the same experience for far less than the £63 we spent yesterday.

I don’t think we’d rush back. We went on a Sunday evening with a reduced menu, to start there’s no mention of a reduced menu on the website nor when I rang up. The staff seem like they can’t be bothered, an older gentleman who looked like either the owner or manager seemed like he was in over his head. Took about 15 minutes for us to get a drinks order, we wanted cocktails but no drinks menu so went with a standard soft drink. My partner got a drinks menu from another table and was shouted at from across the restaurant…then met with laughter from 2 waitresses. Our food arrived, it was very nice but again probably wouldn’t rush back. Took another 15 minutes for the table to be cleared, then we had to call them over for the bill. It’s not nice to watch them gossiping and laughing at other tables and made me think they’d just do it to us when we left. Tables were sticky, staff not the greatest and menu wasn’t that good. Unlikely to return and would probably tell others to not waste their money

Had been meaning to try this place for a while, but wish we hadn’t bothered. Visited late Sunday afternoon and despite the restaurant being largely empty the service was shocking. Staff stood around chatting amongst themselves, had to flag make one down for drinks. Drinks were brought to the table and unceremoniously plonked in the table with eye contact or conversation. Ordered burgers which were average and the so called triple cooked chips that we paid a surcharge for were in no way triple cooked, but were dry tasteless frozen chunky chips. Time came for paying up and once again had to flag someone down for the bill. Won’t be returning as so many far superior places to eat in Witney. Shame

Went to Brets for the first time today as was delighted by the experience. We went for two Japanese burgers and a Mexican which were all delicious and cooked perfectly, the large burgers paired so nicely with the generous 'small' portions of fries and was definitely worth the money. We were intrigued by their new Sunday menu and will definitely be back to try the roasts after our lovely waitress made them sound so good. The service was speedy and very accommodating, as it was our first time we did have questions about the menu which our friendly waitress was more than happy to answer. All in all a great meal and experience would 100% recommend if you are looking for a good quality meal as well as great service at a nice restaurant in Witney we will be back soon!

I’m afraid this was pretty much the worst burger I have been served. At £17 for their double Wagyu burger and chips, I was hoping for something special. I had asked for ‘medium’ when asked how I would like my burger, but what arrived was an absolutely desiccated lump of brown, stringy, tough meat. After two bites, I gave up – it can only be described as unpleasant. I didn’t have time or the inclination after to complain – but did give some polite, but honest feedback when the waitress collected my plate with 90% of the burger remaining. I had hoped they would do the right thing and not charge for this, but after the waitress stated she would report this to the chef, I was promptly charged the full amount. I certainly won’t be returning.

Have been here a few times, food has always been lovely however the customer service is shocking! Clearly all young employees trying their best, however no senior staff with customer service experience to guide them! Drinks took forever to arrive even when the restaurant was quiet. On all 3 occasions upon visiting this restaurant, our plates/glasses have been taken and we have waited 30+mins to get someone’s attention for the bill! On one occasion we got up and waited at the desk to pay for our bill. Another occasion we were one of the last in the restaurant and the 2 staff were too busy chatting to each other at the bar rather than attending to even offering us our bill. Is a lovely restaurant with a lovely atmosphere, however a little additional training for the staff would go a long way! E.g when collecting empty glasses/plates to ask can i get you anything else? This would possibly speed up the service and stop the long waiting times! Has the potential to be an amazing restaurant offering high quality food and excellent service - just some additional support to waiters/waitresses is required. Completely understand the look of the restaurant however staff all looked grumpy and like they don’t want to be there. Some senior staff would help to show them how the job should be done!

I was in Witney on Valentine’s Day with my Wife. We saw a sign in Brets doorway offering a £6.75 meal. This was significantly less than the usual price, so we decided to treat ourselves to lunch. Unfortunately when we tried to order, the sign was removed and we were told the offer was not available. I don’t think it it would have taken a PR expert to have realised that the correct response would have been to permit us to order the meal as advertised. But this notion seemed lost on Brets. In any case, duly embarrassed we left without eating. Suffice to say we won’t be returning
