Bread & Butter in Hackney

This place is a gem. Comfy to sit for a while, have a coffee or juice, eat delicious bread. Tried the sandwiches and a few breakfast dishes and were satisfied. Nice staff, fair prices.

Good variety of breakfast foods. Lots of vegetarian options, but also meat. Varying portion sizes. Options for quick breakfast and takeaway, or also taking your time. Nice atmosphere, lots of coffee table books

Popped in looking for brunch and a coffee and we were not disappointed. The place had a lovely atmosphere and plenty of space for people to work away on their laptops. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, especially when we were too indecisive when it came to ordering and let us mix and match a little from the menu. Would highly recommend the feta and avocado on sourdough and the halloumi wrap. Will definitely be back!

Bread and Butter is a lovely place but is has been closed since the end of March. A sign in the window says it would be shut just for April, for renovation But there is no sign any work going on and I fear it is shut for good

La comida en el café era realmente mala. Pedí una ensalada de halloumi que era solo unas hojas de ensalada y un halloumi muy gomoso, comerlo era como tratar de atravesar plimsoles. Mi novia pidió un sándwich de mozarella que estaba igualmente decrépito; al levantarlo, se desmoronó sin fuerzas y reveló un queso mozarrella que era blanco y perfectamente plano. Nunca había visto mozarella como esta antes, incluso la mozarella que obtienes en Lidl es carnosa y lechosa. Esta mozarella en Bread & Butter era dura y rígida como un trampolín. No comimos el sándwich y lo llevamos a casa y asamos la mozarella en el pan, sabía a plástico, así que lo terminamos. ¡Manténgase alejado de este café! Ahórrese el pago de alimentos demasiado caros y una interacción dolorosa con el personal de alto nivel y vacante. ¡El peor café en el que he estado en el este!

Small little gem! Very reasonable priced, quick, friendly service and most importantly amazing coffee!

Had a lovely breakfast here yesterday. Lovely community cafe where we can have a nice quiet meeting, get some great breakfast - and service with a smile.

I wasn’t sure where to order so I just went up to the counter and asked, they were quite rude to me and just treated me like I was dirt. I then waited there for 15 mins for them to even start making my coffee. But at least it looked cute.

When the waitress gave me the plate, it was so hot that I burned my finger. Very bad service! The Food was ok.

Staff aways friendly but sometimes hard to get attention. Music and general background noise very loud. Too many people talking into their computers, phones or Skype's. Unsure if it's a hot desk location or a restaurant. Having said that the food is excellent.

Service is now terrible here which is a real shame. It isn’t clear to me if they still do table service as you have to go up to the till for everything, meaning there’s a constant crowded queue there. They need to up their game and maybe have more staff available, or else they’ll risk losing regular customers.

Food here can be excellent or disappointing. Service can be good but also poor. It tries too hard to be trendy whilst occasionally neglecting the important stuff like food and service. It’s relatively cheap and has a very good menu. On its day it is very good value but on an off day you will wish you went somewhere else.

Bread and butter staff make the experience, with good food and fast wifi its great for breakfast or lunch.

4 of us popped into this café for lunch today and had lovely sandwiches served by very friendly staff. .The goats cheese wrap was delicious and the cakes were equally good. They have seating outside on a sunny day. Highly recommended!

Very hip neighborhood spot for young people to hang out and read / study / work. However the service was poor--had to get up and look for butter for my dry breakfast sandwich myself. Coffee was so bitter it was undrinkable--no remedy offered by the establishment. Overpriced basic breakfast food.

I have been here multiple times just due to the fact they have a little monopoly over Haggerston, which is lacking in lunch cafes. Before the place was taken over, the service was absolutely horrendous!! However when I found out it was taken over by the same people that run Cafe Z, which has really good customer service, I thought I would give them another go. It is so hit and miss as when the girls from Cafe Z come down, the service is amazing and attentive but today the service was unfortunately completely awful. To top it off, the girl who took our payment looked like a moody teenager who refused to even look at us, did not split the bill into the amounts we asked (just did what she wanted) and if you think at any point through your time there you will get so much as a thank you, you are very mistaken! Let's hope they open up something else in Haggerston soon as my entire work office will not go here anymore due to continually bad service!

I am not one to write reviews as I am extremely picky so when I do, I promise, it is worth checking out!! I was happily surprised to be cheerfully greeted as I walked into this lovely atmosphere of a coffee shop! The vibe was super chilled and the staff very friendly. In particular Oriana (hope to be writing this correctly) who prepared the best cappuccino I have ever consumed. I am not a coffee drinker really, but as most of us, I NEED it in order to function. It is difficult for me to truly enjoy the taste of coffee, but I went for seconds so well done Ms barista! For lunch I had a falafel vegan wrap which was amazing, so good that I didn't even notice it was vegan! and a pistachio cake which was also delicious. The ambiance was very work alike, the customers were mostly on their laptops or reading. Their playlist is strictly bossa nova and jazz, perfect for an intellectual like myself! I thoroughly enjoyed working there and the place inspired me so much that I had a lovely productive day. The menu is great with a variety of natural juices and healthy options and the massive bonus is that they sell Karma cola!! Definitely worth a visit!

Home baked sour dough and an eclectic and not overly-hipster menu make this a cracking little spot for brunch. Friendly and engaging staff, swift service and wholly affordable for this part of London. Tortilla pizza was surprisingly awesome

The staff work really hard, and the food is pretty average, but the way the kitchen staff and the owner treat the hard-working youngsters on the floor makes it pretty hard for me to go there. Looks a bit like slave labour if you ask me! Someone should send the authorities in to see if he even pays them legally

El menú tenía muchas cosas para elegir y el servicio fue realmente rápido. Estaba muy concurrido, pero el personal se aseguró de que nos cuidaron y hicieron un trabajo increíble que sirve a todo el mundo y ejecuta un servicio tan bueno en un momento tan lleno. Lovely cafe with good value hearty food. I live nearby and visit at least once a week. The staff are very friendly too.

Este es uno de mis favoritos de cafés locales. Y cuando estoy con mi bebé en un cochecito, este es sin duda mi favorito!

Vine a visitar a mi amigo con marca de Dalston Dj; he estado aquí antes, es una de su de estadounidense favororite/almuerzo. Ambos tuvimos huevos revueltos en tostadas con salmón ahumado. Llegó con una ensalada pequeña y pedimos un café con leche de almendras leche...

Bread & butter es uno de mis lugares favoritos alrededor de mi zona. Voy allí con mi ordenador portátil para trabajar, disfrutar de la comida, especialmente el desayuno egeo y amorosa la tortilla Pizza - buen café, zumos frescos y muy atentos.

Mi lugar favorito para un brunch, desayuno sabroso relajado en el fin de semana. La comida es buena y excelente relación calidad-precio. Los zumos, café y frutas también están bien. El servicio es estupendo, el personal muy amable. Es muy acogedor para los niños y tiene un ambiente bastante amigable y abierta.

Nice community vibe with really friendly staff and affordable prices. My partner, two friends and I had brunch on Sunday late morning and managed to get a table easily. The food was good solid brunch fair.

Have been here several times as my client is nearby, and will be back here again.Breakfast is fantastic. Really love the egg-chorizo-spinach-tortilla thing, or the poached eggs. Portion sizes are generous, the coffee excellent. They have large wooden tables with lots of space, and even a few power ports to plug in laptops. Wheelchair-friendly with disabled loos, and decent spacing between tables.They also serve sandwiches, soups, pastries, and an assortment of teas. Service is efficient although could be a bit friendlier.

If you want the below- this place is heaven for you!- terrible attitude of service staff- club/ragga music (am I in a club?)- waited ages to get the tables cleared- totally ignored by the service staff when I wanted to order more drinks.I could go on but its too embarrassing!This place could truly turn things around and enjoy huge profits but little things such as above makes it a bad experience for customers. I'm definitely wont be returning again and will tell 10 of my contacts about this place who in turn will tell their contacts- this is how a business can go downhill.OWNERS- listen up and look at what people are saying about your business- you definitely have the best location and the food is actually quite nice, you have the WiFi access so you will get the business crowds who will want to stay for longer and will order more foods etcI really want small food places to excel but if you just listen to your customers without showing bad attitude then you will always get positive response and busy!Free advice I'm giving (I should get a reward for this!!..lol)

Love coming here most days for lunch during the week and breakfast at the weekend. Nicely tucked away off of Kingsland road and corner of Enfield.Great a variety of choice on the menu, with all day breakfast, wraps and salads. Great coffee and cake. The girls in there are always friendly, the service is quick and the food is always with you within ten minutes.

Great breakfast served at hipster pace amongst hipsters but still a great place to eat and relax over brekkie. Coffee is excellent

What a lovely place. Was pleasantly surprised. Had a lovely brunch with the girls. Really well thought out menu - I had avocado and smoked salmon on toast - very good honest food, the cakes also looked amazing. The staff were great and extremely accommodating to us and our babies.

My brother-in-law took my little lad and I for breakfast.The boy had pancakes made without the blueberries; as requested, and freshly squeezed orange juice.I had a nice large breakfast tortilla type thing, without mushrooms; as requested, and a flat white.The staff couldn't have been more helpful and the food was lovely. I'm not sure about the price and I didn't pay. :)

This place is such a nice experience. Friendly staff, lovely comfortable tables to sit at and rarely gets too crowded. Deckchairs outside for nice weather! The food is good and reasonably priced for the area. My favourite dish is avocado on toast with lemon and chilli, two big wodges of good bread with a generous amount of avocado plus salad for £4.50 (I have paid £7.50 in the same area which is ridiculous). The goats cheese wrap with tomato chutney is also delicious. Sandwiches are around £4 and great quality. Definitely recommend for a relaxed lunch or coffee.

Such promise but let down, Bread & Butter is a great space with a promising menu but so much lets it down. The miserable service is literally off putting, the chap taking no notice, I have had my finished plate on my table for 15 minutes now. No check back and none of the basics covered. The food is average and breakfast always, quite bizarrely comes with a salad garnish. At one point this place was a hustling venue pulling in the home workers with free wifi and a smile on offer. Now these guys are so off point its just sad.

The food is really nothing special (whatever you do, don't get the 'Mexican' tortilla breakfast dish.....), but it was the surly service that really made the experience here. Definitely won't be going back.

This place is a nice space for a breakfast or a lunch and it's reasonably priced too. However, sadly the quality of the food has really gone down hill recently, so much so that I won't be eating there again until I hear it has improved. The sourdough toast comes out dry and like cracker, the breakfasts are always slightly cold, the egg overcooked, everything a bit limp. The service is pretty awful too. I'd go in for a take away coffee, but if you're eating , I'd recommend HER or Trip Kitchen over this place.

This place has a great relaxing atmosphere and since it's not so visible to the main road it's kind of a hidden gem that doesn't get extremely crowded. Great coffee and food. Good service. Highly recommended.
