Oh dear, we must have hit a bad day. We had chosen Brassica for a family get together lunch as we had read so many rave reviews. Three of us chose the pasta based autumn special, while the fourth wanted only a salad. The paste was very undercooked, and I do know the difference between al dente and being hardly able to get a fork into it and the whole dish tasting of raw flour. We pointed out the problem and the plates were returned to the kitchen. When they came back to the table the food was hotter but the pasta remained unchanged. One of the group was so hungry she ate it anyway, but the other two found it inedible. The salad was quite nice, but at £12 for a small bowl of dressed leaves with slices of orange and a few walnuts I thought it overpriced. The staff were very good and some money was taken off the bill for the uneaten food, but that was hardly the point, we had gone expecting a lovely lunch on one of the rare times we could all be together and instead left still hungry and deeply disappointed

We remembered this as the highlight of a previous holiday and came for Sunday lunch at the start of this one. We were NOT disappointed! Chef still brilliant and the young woman at the front of house was very warm and welcoming. Good nibbles to start, I had an excellent well presented hake dish, my wife the very good pork roast, both with good vegetables which are important to us. I had an excellent dessert; my wife has the cheese and they obligingly replaced the pickle with fresh fruit.

I had brunch here on Bank Holiday Saturday. The service was lovely but I wasn't terribly inspired by the menu - it was all a bit ho-hum. You could choose from pastries - croissant, almond or pain au raisin, or toast and butter with jam, honey or marmalade, but it was the Greek yoghurt with fruit compôte and nuts which appealed the most and that was what I ordered to start with - it was delicious but not really any different to anything I could have done at home. The cooked options were very limited - fried or poached eggs on toast, or serrano ham with fried eggs & cornichons, or roasted tomatoes on toast with basil salsa verde, or a sausage sandwich with pickled red onion. After a lot of uninspired perusing I eventually ordered the mushroom & parmesan danish with a poached egg & spinach and it was good enough but all in all everything was a bit too simple for me and I was left quite disappointed.

Superb small restaurant. Great authentic Italian style food (think River Cafe rather than spaghetti and sauce.) had great starter of tasty tomatoes , mozzarella style cheese and a salsa verde. Then Hake with potatoes and spinach. All tasted exceptional. Fantastic will definitely visit again.

Apparently this restaurant is in the Michelin Guide...god knows why!!! We opted for the daily specials menu and chose x2 course for £20. The beef pasta stew was so bad. Firstly, the chef had run-out of the specified pasta. All that was served was cheap mincemeat and al dente pasta swimming in a watery sauce...yuk. The desert was a warm sliced peach on a bed on Creme fresh and crumbed biscuit. Definitely not worth £20 + a discretionary 10% service charge..I don't think so! Will not return in a hurray!

Brassica was recommended and I know it’s been mentioned recently in the paper as the place to go, so we thought we would splurge and try it as we love med cooking. The menu is limited and I didn’t fancy much from the starters so just ordered the focaccia with aioli. The bread was nice but the aioli lacked flavour. My husband ordered the anchovies, at £9 you expect more than a few tiny fillets that look like they were just from the tin. The main course we chose was steak frites, again at £36 a plate I expected more. The steak lacked flavour but the chips were nice. The carafe of red wine (first one on the menu) was very nice, as were the cold rice pudding and brownie sundae for dessert. The atmosphere is very relaxed and it is a comfortable setting but I do feel it’s overpriced for what you get.

This was our second trip to Brassica and it lived up to the first. We had a delicious lunch, the set menu is great value but we were also tempted by dishes off the main menu. Once again we had friendly service and really tasty food. The decor and ambience makes this a lovely place for lunch or dinner. Sadly we don’t live nearby but will definitely book in again when we’re back in the area.

A pleasantly decorated restaurant, quite informal and I would suggest the dress code is smart casual. The food sadly was not up to expectations, a very strange mix of ingredients, such as lentils on lettuce leaves and my starter was sliced tomatoes which were tasteless, covered in a creamy dressing topped with a greasy crumb mix. For mains my husband had smoked trout served on a wedge of toast with salad leaves, the portion was small for a mains and I had orricchetti with crab, of which there was very little crab and it was in a very oily sauce. For what we had we thought it was expensive and will not be returning.

I particularly like that this restaurant changes its menu daily. Too many stick with the same old offerings for too long. I appreciate the effort it entails; it shows a real interest in what they are doing. Comfortably quirky and charmingly staffed, I will definitely return. Our recent visit to Brassica for my 40th birthday and anniversary celebration was truly unforgettable. This gem of a restaurant exceeded our expectations with its exquisite food, exceptional service, and elegant ambiance. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and whisked away to our beautifully set table. The menu offered a tantalising array of creative dishes, making it difficult to choose. However, our attentive server provided excellent recommendations to suit our tastes. The food was divine, from the mouth-watering appetisers to the perfectly cooked main courses. Each dish showcased a brilliant balance of flavors, textures, and presentation. To top it all off, we were treated to a delightful dessert and a personalized touch to mark our special occasion. The attentive staff made our celebration truly memorable, ensuring that our evening at Brassica was nothing short of magical. I wholeheartedly recommend Brassica for a remarkable dining experience that will leave you longing for more.

We had passed the restruant many times but never entered. As a venue it has little to recommend it - a mismatch of decor, seeting and service. Seemingly local trade also eyes it with some suspicion as we were the only patrons. I did like the cloth napkins though! We shared a starter of Finocchia which we had never had. I'm not sure that what appeared was authentic. Does Finocchi come on a plate with nothing to accompany it? Their interpretation of Finocchia is a plate of thinly sliced, day old greasy salami. The main course. I had Braised Pork - a gelatenous blob of fatty brown gloop with fried polenta, eadible but not a happy marriage of tastes. My partner had smoked Haddock with spinage - again an odd mix. The sweet course was the most strange. Tinned Rhubarb - when rubarb is in season! - a spoonful of creme fresh and a thin slice of slightly gingery cake - possibly the only thing not purchaed from the nearby Co-op. And all this for the princely sum of £70+ Needless to say we will not be returning.

Finally got round to trying Brassica again after a few hit and miss experiences along time ago. Sadly wish we hadn't bothered. Nothing tasted awful. Simplicity is often a great thing.. however the prices don't always reflect this. Our fish was abit overdone.. foccacia stale and our frozen french fries soft. It's in the details. Wish we'd said something about these issues on the night but didn't want to taint the evening. Big reason for the low stars is the fact we payed an extortionate amount of money and 3 of the 4 of us left hungry. Paying £27-£29 for a main to then leave you hungry.. after paying £14-£15 for a starter! Their mains are not a complete meal.. you have to add sides which for the price is insane. Word of warning.. you'll have to order plenty of sides and don't go with a budget. Our friends who had come down from London were also dissapointed and shocked at the prices! Let that settle in.

Restaurant wasn’t busy when we arrived slightly early but the food and service quickly removed any apprehensions that might have generated. We ate the set Sunday lunch and it was terrific. The first courses of salads were spot-on but the piece de resistance was the platter of roast duck legs and their accompanying roast potatoes, creamed celeriac and cabbage. I can’t remember ever eating a better Sunday roast. Ice cream dessert was more prosaic but continued the pattern of good quality. Driving duties limited the alcohol intake but the modest sized list was imaginative, good quality and reasonably priced.

Where to start? Brassica is my favourite local restaurant, with a fantastic chef, friendly and informative staff and a lovely setting. Vegetarians are so often ‘fobbed off’ with lazy dishes, but never at Brassica; meat eaters and veggies share the same respect from the kitchen. Today, I had the most amazing Squash and polenta with spinach gorgonzola and almonds. This was my main course as part of Prix Fixe menu of two courses for £16. I had starter and main and my friend main and dessert. I have eaten in most local restaurants but Brassica would be hard to beat - in my opinion! Try it!

We were spoilt for eating choice in Beaminster, with the Ollerod Hotel restaurant looking very attractive, but in the end we opted for the Brassica, and I’m glad we did. The decor was charming and welcoming, and we were especially taken with the wonderful, locally made earthenware plates. The food was equally good, especially the focaccia at the start, though the veal was a little on the dry side. The grouse, however, was delicious. The wine list is by seasoned wine-critic Graham Chidey and consequently the wines were also very fine. A very good experience, and we would love to return if possible.

My old dad and myself popped in for a quick snack. They didn't have any gluten free bread but as I had just bought some from the lovely local bakery the chef was happy to use it for my cheese toasty. As my old man happily devoured his poached egg and bacon on toast I set about my toasty with a joyous gusto !

Lovely little restaurant in the stunning village of Beaminster was perfect for Wednesday lunch. Veal Sirloin steak was superb and the halibut with seasonal greens was simply deeeeelisssssh, I could have liked the plate. Rice pud had the WOW Factor and the choc desert was naughty but nice. We are already looking forward to returning soon.

We had a quiet dinner for two at this local restaurant. Having heard good things from our new Dorset neighbours, expectations were high. All I can say is that Cass Titcombe's cooking far exceeded them. It was unfussy but superb. Not too busy but a nice combination of fresh local ingredients which were used in interesting ways.

The service staff are friendly and confident. The menu not so big that it intimidates with some interesting dishes. All the dishes the party ate passed muster without being exceptional. The prices however indicate this is top drawer. I feel there is a half step up that will match it all together.

A fantastic lunch for four last weekend. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A very relaxed atmosphere, lovely surroundings. I enjoyed all three courses and coffee, however the star of the show for me personally was the veal sirloin steak, absolutely stunning, fabulous flavour, served with homemade fries and rocket, my dessert was damson cheesecake and it was delicious too. Will definitely return in the future.

I took my wife & mum out on a wet wild day & it was still buzzing there. Very nice staff and good service and the food was very tasty - my mum said her brill was the best she had had in many many months, soft & tasty not dry.

We had eaten here several times, in the past, and had recently heard mixed reviews, so decided to book ourselves in. We SO wanted the poor write ups to be wrong, but this wasn't the best meal we've had here.

The restaurant is prominent in the square at Beaminster but no menu posted outside so you have to enter to find out, this was also rather limited and overpriced.

After hearing rave reviews about this restaurant I was a little disappointed. The food was fine - tomatoes and bufala, high quality; veal tender but with an uninteresting sauce, damson pavolva mediocre. I'm fine with a limited menu as it suggests everything is fresh and I'm told it changes daily. However, there were only three sides options - cabbage, potatoes and salad - and at 7.45 pm the cabbage was already sold out (Ironic given the restaurant's name). This is unusual for a restaurant with a limited menu and no other vegetable option except potatoes. Unfortunately for me, Brassica has tables with large pedestals underneath so you have to put your feet on them and sitting on a banquette with feet raised pushes you into a position no physio would approve of! If I lived in the area I might return, but I wouldn't make a special detour.

We had a wonderful meal at Brassica last week. It was the final night of a week's holiday in Dorset and what a way to end our trip. The restaurant is gorgeous - light, airy, beautifully designed. The staff were polite and good humoured - we felt instantly at ease and excited for the meal ahead. The focus of the menu is clearly local, fresh ingredients. Our table shared salami, pickled vegetables and a chilled aperitif while waiting for our starters - generous and delicious white crab meat on a potato and seaweed rosti, divine duck rillette. We all shared Dover Sole - beautifully grilled, fresh a treat. We all indulged in deserts and fine wine. It was a great night at a great restaurant in a beautiful part of the world. Highly recommended.

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!

Excellent food, friendly staff, always willing to go the extra mile. This is one of the happiest places I know to have breakfast, lunch or just gorgeous cake

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Very friendly village pub with good quality, reasonably priced food. Delicious homemade biscuits/chocolates with coffee. Welcome dogs even when wet. Highly recommend.
