Brasserie At the Scholar in Edinburgh, City of

First time at this wonderful restaurant, a special treat for Mother’s Day. It is most definitely a hidden gem - a brasserie at The Scholar, a hotel within the grounds of Edinburgh University ‘s Pollock Halls. The staff under the guidance of Food and Beverage Manager Emelise Vassalo, were without exception welcoming and friendly; the menu comprehensive and the food beautifully cooked. I had the delicious smoked haddock in a creamy sauce (Cullen Skink) followed by baked sea bream with a variety of vegetables and roast potatoes. I also loved the generous cheeseboard garnished with pickle and iced grapes to finish! Others in our party had butternut squash with kale and goats cheese, roast Sirloin with varied veg and gravy, an unusual but very tasty beetroot dish. One of us, had to have the hot sticky fig pudding with icecream - so delicious! There was also a complimentary glass of Prosecco for ‘mother’ and music from a singer guitarist to accompany the meal. It all felt like a very special treat .

Scrumdidilyumpsiouse 1 negative comment is don't have chilli oatcakes with cheese instead we would like normal oatcakes! But this meal Wes a mother's day treat! We loved it!😁 The waiters were so kind and were great with my daughter!😜

Lunch at the Brasserie was wonderful. The food was fresh and well presented, and the service had a wonderfully refined feel to it. David was charming, polite, and most importantly knew when to approach, and when not to. This place is phenomenal!

We had the fish cake, salmon special and a vegetarian burger and we were all floored by how good the food is. The best burger I’ve had and a very healthy size. The service was incredible and ask the staff were very attentive offering refills, drinks and a quick check up. Emelise was an amazing host and very personable, happy to chat and share stories. The two ladies serving and running were just as lovely and attentive. Barely any wait for the food, all in all a wonderful dining experience

Lovely setting, excellent service and tasty lunch. Our waiter (Spanish gentleman) was excellent, very friendly and helpful.

The informal breakfast arrangement coupled with a wonderful selection of cold and hot food makes for the perfect relaxed start to the day. We were not so impressed with dinner, hence only 4 stars, because of the limited choice. I really enjoyed the market fish but did not want to return for the other dishes on offer. Staff are really charming and nothing is too much trouble. Special thanks to Natalia.

Honestly forget wandering to morningside or prestonfield get a truly beautiful meal at very competitive prices in a lovely relaxed atmosphere Brasserie .. ALL the staff are very attentive, friendly and genuinely happy in their work, even though it was very busy when we visited without reservations!! Service was excellent, Angela who was serving us was a complete joy .. highly recommended .. no main course photos but I managed a quick snap of my lemon curd tart with raspberry sorbet and mixed berry coulee

The starter was lovely but everything went downhill from there. Overcooked steak, frozen onion rings, etc. however the waiter at the end said “I saw you didn’t enjoy your food so I have taken the cost of the bottle of wine off the bill”. Decided to decline desert. Kudos to the waiter for his understanding. The staff were lovely.
