Bramhall's Deli & Cafe in Derbyshire Dales

Used to be good. Stopped serving full English breakfast, now only available as a sandwich. Is this because of Covid? Surely eating from a plate makes more sense than finger food during a pandemic. Putting it on a plate with a few beans cant be that hard?

Visited here for a late lunch on a sunny Sunday afternoon. We were told that there was a 15-20 minute wait for food but this turned into 35 minutes which seemed excessive for a Ploughman’s and a tuna sandwich, as nothing needed to be cooked. The owner was very polite and did apologise for the wait and, when it arrived, the food was absolutely delicious and plentiful. The artisan pork pie was excellent. Not sure why the food inside the cafe was being served on disposable plates, etc but with metal cutlery and with proper cups and saucers for drinks but a minor point. Recommended.

I ordered a fruit scone with jam and cream. I did not expect it to be served in a cardboard carton with a wooden and with it already split and spread messily with the jam and cream. I was left with no choice as to how I ate, or enjoyed, my scone.

There was three of us and we had a new born, we asked if we could have a table inside as it was chilly outside and she said yes as long as we where eating. I can see why, the menu was already reduced for “Eat out to help out” but not easily seen on the menu, we looked passed that, we had a sandwich, a sausage roll a ploughman’s, a bit of quiche, one coffee, two soft drinks it came to £23! So normally it would of been £46. £46! For a sandwich and some sausage rolls on polystyrene thin plates, wow inflated the prices for a government. Scheme which is designed to help. Extortionate.

We had lunch here. Delicious sandwiches with lots of filling, polite service from all the staff. The whole place, inside and out, was spotless. They’ve got sanitizer on every table and safety protocol when using the toilets. We felt completely safe. Definitely recommend supporting this lovely place. See you again!

Tremendous cafe & deli run by lovely people. Sausage rolls to die for and great service. Easy to park over the road and an absolute must, for passing trade. Lots of local produce available - if you want the genuine taste of the Derbyshire Dales, you will get it here!!

Ordered two Ploughman’s lunches, one with pork pie and ham as well as cheese. I was surprised at the generous portions and the accompanying salad and fruit (apples and grapes). Delighted with chance to sit in the sun.

Only went to get a takeaway coffee whilst passing through ..waited outside at one of the empty tables..were reprimanded by a sour woman for doing this and also once again when we put our coffees on the table to add our sugar before going on our way.What a joke ...she has no idea about service...needs to find another job

We had a superb lunch at Bramalls. I gorped at the cakes for five minutes but didn’t eat one as if I had I know I’d have bought another slice. The soup was a tour de force and the fish cakes were terrific.

We don't often pass through Ashbourne, but last time we did a couple of years ago, we discovered the delight of Bramhall's Deli & Cafe. Since we were going to be heading that way again, I made a point of making sure we arrived in Ashbourne in time for lunch, so we could try Bramhall's again. And we weren't disappointed.The food is delicious and reasonably priced, and the service friendly. Although it was a cold January day, the sun was shining, so we sat outside and thoroughly enjoyed our second visit to Bramhall's.

Really nice food and location. Nice easy to read menu outside and very welcoming. Staff were friendly and accomodating, Would definitely go back.

Everytime we visit Ashbourne we visit Bramhall's Deli & cafe and sit outside (weather permitting) with our two dogs and enjoy the ambience of Ashbourne with a lovely cup of freshley made coffee and a cake (of course). You can park either on the street or across the road in the carpark. Definitely worth a visit.

Last Saturday, late morning, four of us - friends who hadn't met up for a while - sat on the Bramhall's terrace, drank coffee and looked out over the Market place on Market day. The latte dissipated the chill. The chat was warm. We must have spent an hour sitting there catching up. Before we left, I picked up a pork pie to take back with me. We walked and talked about town, had lunch at the George and Dragon and many memories later, bade fond fare well to friends and Ashbourne before heading west. I can't speak highly enough of the pork pie I bought at Bramhall's: flavouring, seasoning, filling, crust; all achieved to perfection. Family loved it. I have since emailed the deli to say so and found out that I had bought their Champion pork pie but that a Huntsman variation - chicken, pork and stuffing - is also provided. No marks for guessing where we will be heading for when we go east again.

We popped in for a lunch date, my other half chose a bacon and Brie and cranberry sandwich and I had a baked Camembert. I was trying to avoid eating wheat, no baked potato or other non bread based light lunch seemed to be on offer. The food arrived after a small wait but the filling in the sandwich was almost nonexistent. 2 rashers of bacon, a tiny amount of buried and then drowning in Cranberry sauce. Did not expect a triple sandwich either, the bread seems to hide any filling. My Camembert was ok, but at £8.95 seems expensive for the little preparation involved And small amount of accompaniment. I have eaten here on a number of occasions and have enjoyed previous visits, this time we won’t be returning.

Visited lunchtime today, an excellent all round experience, the staff, the service and the food were all first class, we would recommend the 100%

Well situated on the market place - try to get a table by the window & you will see the life of Ashbourne happening in front of you.The food & service are good - the ladies who serve are kind & helpful .An enjoyable experience

Called for a coffee and a decaf tea and were tempted to try the new cheese tartlets 3 different ones these were served warm with dippers , a new line the man said and must say they were very nice and will try them again when we visit also the latte was first class , very nice staff .

A special of Parma ham, rocket, pine nuts, Parmesan and figs is always going to delight me. At £9.95 it also seemed great value. Him indoors was also delighted to discover that some of the figs were the mini sweetly marinated kind. Needless to say, we purchased a jar on the way out.

We called in for a quick snack. The home made pea and mint soup served with a bucket of fresh crispy bread was to die for. Two very clean bowls and an empty bucket say it all! Friendly and helpful staff and a spotless tearoom. Will definitely be returning when we're back in the area.

Based on previous reviews I thought there would be more gluten free options. It was extremely limited and even worse for a gluten free child. The only thing my daughter could have that was kid friendly was cheese on toast.

What a lovely cafe in the centre of Ashbourne. We visited on a sunny day and missed out on an outside table (it's popular) but no problem , it's really nice inside and we had such a lovely lunch.

Four of us had the pork and chorizo burger and were very pleased with our meal. A good salad with the burgers and some sweet potato chips. A child with us had the sausage and mash and the sausage which came from Belper was delicious (we had wanted to buy some). Followed with tart for some of us. All in all a good reasonably priced meal. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. We will certainly come back here again.

We visited earlier this year, an attractive shop frontage but a poor ‘coffee & cake’ experience.

Very tasty freshly prepared dishes. Generous portions using a wide variety of fresh vegetables and salads. Friendly staff. Would definitely eat here again if I was in Ashbourne.

Food was very tasty and had a nice selection of food. Cakes were delicious too! Only reason for not giving 5 stars is because I felt the price for the breakfast was pricey. But will visit again for sure 🙂

Had lunch here, and very happy with my warm chicken , bacon and cashew nut salad . Geneaorus portions of all ingredients. Friendly staff and a lovely cup of tea.

Visiting Ashbourne for the first time came across this little treasure.

Spent the day in Ashbourne with my Sister, decided on this cafe out of a few , can honestly say I'm still thinking about the Shepherds Pie now yumm, I really wasn't expecting anything as delicious, I'm a real foodie and a good cook myself so am usually disappointed,but not that day I can say prob one of the best shepherds pies I've ever had and the root veg was tasty too, the ladies (girls) were all so attentive and it had a nice friendly atmosphere, I will definitely be going in on my next visit to Ashbourne . Fairly lacklustre compared to previous visits. Why? Short on the usual welcome. Used to a greeting with nice smiles. Feels like something's changed. Someone was rude to a staff member and the advice was "to be rude back." Minor differences in quality and preparation of dishes. I hope the changes will soon be reversed.

Arrived in Ashbourne tired, thirsty and hungry after A long hot walk. I asked if we could order food and eat outside. The waitress told us to find a seat and she would be out to take our order. After waiting 25 minutes a another waitress arrived with someone else’s drinks. I asked if she could take our order to be told they weren’t serving food. Not good enough

Nice cafe right on the square, not particularly big so wouldn’t fit a bigger party in. The food was very nice(we had sandwiches), the cake’s are particularly nice.

Situated in Ashbourne near the registry office and opposite the market.

Visited with my daughter and granddaughter for lunch. The service was good and everyone was very friendly. The meals were excellent but I did feel it was a tad expensive. Deli counter worth a visit even if you choose not to eat in.

Myself, my husband, my daughter and our two dogs arrived at 4.50pm for hot drinks and to sit outside in the sun as they were packing up for the day. Nothing was too much trouble they stopped putting away tables got a bowl of water for the dogs without us asking. Took our order and the drinks arrived very promptly. Really lovely coffee and pot of tea. The staff were very chatty. Would definitely go back again to try there food menu

Popped in here having read a recommendation in a magazine and was not disappointed. I had the fishcake & salad. Lovely light fishcake, plentiful with fish and a really fresh side salad which was a meal on its own (it was so good I ate my other-half’s salad as he didn’t want it! Great coffee too & I would most certainly go back. It’s not a cheap ‘n’ cheerful place, it’s a fabulous lunchtime venue. Staff were warm and friendly.

Extremely good value and food very nice indeed. Ham and piccalilli sandwich (on choice of bread) with a filling salad and a glass of wine £10.45. I cannot complain. My friend had the quiche and said it looked lovely. Well worth a visit and I will be back next time I am in Ashbourne.

We visited bramhalls during Feb half term along with many other places around town. This has got to one of the worst places the breakfast cobs are nearly £6!! You can get a small breakfast at other places around. The bacon is tasteless I was really dissapaointed in the service and the over all over priced menu. Would not return

I highly recommend the houmous & Mediterranean vegetables, the flavour is amazing. The sweet potato wedges are fantastic too, really fluffy inside. We also had the soup of the day which was excellent. The vegan brownie is also heavenly, really rich, soft, and chocolatey. I would have gotten one to go if they weren’t sold out ❤️

We visited this cafe for breakfast on our way through Ashbourne last week. I ordered a bacon and mushroom muffin, (see photograph). The muffin cost £4.45 and consisted of one piece of bacon and one mushroom. It was supposed to cost £5.45 but they had reduced it by £1 because I hadn't wanted egg!

Very enjoyable visit on a Saturday lunch time. Thoroughly enjoyed the food & the service was excellent. The Big Ploughman's was a plentiful plate of deliciousness which I would be very happy to recommend.

A regular haunt for tea, coffee or a light lunch. The deli shop is attached so it’s easy to take home some of the lovely cheeses, meats etc after you have eaten.

A good range of food, cooked fresh and the prices are very good. So whether its for coffee, a snack or lunch this is the place to come

On a short break we were recommended to Bramhall's by a cyclist we met on the Tissington Trail and were not disappointed. The coffee was strong, piping hot and delicious and the sandwiches made with good quality bread, generous filling and lots of salad with an interesting dressing. Looking at other people's meals they looked so good we plan to go back for lunch. The service was friendly and efficient and with newspapers, wi-fi and clean facilities what more could you want.

This is such a lovely cafe which serves a range of dishes to accommodate everyone. There is even a kids menu so that it can cater towards people of all ages. The staff are always very kind and energetic and make me feel so welcomed. The dishes are always super clean especially on a saturday, great potwasher.

came here with friends to celebrate the christmas period. lovely staff who made us feel very welcome and delivered food with a smile. the food was excellent and very reasonably priced considering the huge portions. all around was a lovely place to visit and i would 100% visit again xo

Once again a warm welcome and fantastic fresh food. We had the full breakfast and the vegetarian breakfast and as usual it was all cooked perfectly. Best place in Ashbourne.

Situated along the market place of Ashbourne, Bramhalls is a superb cafe and deli. Serving beautiful and tasty homemade cakes, as well as drinks from the talented baristas, the staff are pleasant and welcoming. Overall, a great cafe and deli.

I visit Bramhalls whenever I can it’s the best place to eat or drink coffee meet friends etc the chef is amazing and will cook off menu dishes in request, the owners are very hands on the place is very restfully decorated and the pavement tables over look the market square and have great vesta on Ashbourne main route

After a stroll around town we came here for a bite. I could not decide between the peanut butter cream pie or the treacle tart to be on the safe side I ordered both. The peanut butter cream pie was one of the best cakes I have ever had, the tart was also nice but I was too full to really appreciate it. My friend had the the chocolate pecan thing which was also fantastic. A great selection of cheeses to buy too.

My friend & I came came to the cafe Saturday around midday, for coffee & a cake. The waitress told us the tables were reserved for 'diners' only, but on this occasion we could have just coffee & cake. She was rude & made us feel very uncomfortable. There were several empty tables, so not at all busy & still cost just under £10. I had never been to a cafe that does not allow coffee & a cake. We are regular visitors to Ashbourne, but this experience ruined our day. We will not be visiting the cafe again, & will stick to the Flower cafe in future who are friendly & accommodating.

My partner and I popped in on Saturday for a cup of tea and coffee. It was pouring with rain and we were shown to a table as soon as we walked in.

We popped in for lunch as we had been told that it was under new ownership and had heard good things.

After stopping in a near by hotel for the night we popped across the road for a quick breakfast. Pleasant service, nice food that was quickly served and reasonable in price. Nice way to start the day.

A friend and I visited on Monday for a tea and coffee, both of which were good, then paid and left. We had walked quite a way when one of the waitresses came running up behind us holding a package which we had left behind. We were really impressed by this, she had gone out of her way to make sure that we got it back. Well done!

We have been here before and I'm pleased to say it hasn't changed. We only make the occasional visit to this delightful little Cafe when we are on holiday in this area, but it has never disappointed. The staff are friendly and attentive, the food is all freshly prepared and it's clean & tidy. Prices are very good too for fresh home cooking.What more could you ask. Highly recommended 5*

Extremely rude staff, told us very abruptly that they were closing for the day at 4pm when we walked up to it, at 5pm they were still open. I think she just didn't like the look of us.

Found this cafe on a "spur if the moment" visit to Ashboune. We found the staff to be friendly and the service great. The food was tasty and well presented. Time from order to eating was great. We definitely will be back... must try lunch.

Visisted on a busy rainy Sunday afternoon but lucky to get a table mid afternoon missing busy lunch period. Had a plum frangipan slice and a gluten free almond and orange slice which were very nice. Nice pot of teas each. Service was a bit slow. The deli is a good place to browse afterwards.

Went for two coffees and two hot chocolates at 11.30am.Staff put together two empty tables for us and there was also another empty table. We were then told that we couldn’t order just drinks at busy periods. The lady wasn’t even pleasant about it. There was no one waiting and empty tables so I wouldn’t have said this was a busy period. Certainly would not recommend this place.

Good choice of food and drinks. The staff were helpful and the environment light and airy. The cheese from the deli section was disappointing.

Really excellent cafe with gorgeous menu and tasty food. We had a chicken sandwich and some French bread on the side with a wine and a cider. Perfect service, and we picked up a couple of things from the attached lovely deli. Highly recommend.

Stopped for tea and cakes and was not disappointed. Friendly service and the cakes were delicious. Toilet facilities were clean and well maintained.

This is a great place to have lunch regardless of what your dietary needs or preferences are. I had the grilled halloumi with roasted vegetables and 3-bean salad. It was really delicious and beautifully presented. Ingredients are fresh, service is good and dishes are reasonably priced.

Came for lunch whilst in Ashbourne for the day and l was very impressed. There's a great menu which caters for various dietary requirements. The food was tasty, well-presented and the portions size very generous. Staff were friendly and the cafe was bright and lovely and clean. Would recommend.

We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch & as my husband has eating problems because of medical issues the staff helped in every way. The portions were good & the room was very clean & light.

We were a large group of cyclists in the peak district who used the cafe on the way up to our venue and also on the way home a few days later. Both times they were fantastic in dealing with a large group and the food was amazing. Some of us could not resist the deli shop either for when we got home. Very highly recommended.

We called here for coffee. Nice bright place ,waitresses very friendly,coffee good ,wanted some of the delicious looking cakes on display, but they are not COVERED UP. It was a hot day the door was open ,onto the main road ,big lorries going past ,dust...

We popped into Bramhall's for breakfast. It's in a lovely looking building opposite the market, apparently the mayor's house in earlier times. I can thoroughly recommend the Derbyshire Pikelet and Maple Syrup. Truly indulgent. Lovely coffee. There's a really good menu for food throughout the day.

The four of us looking for a nice lunch chose this pretty deli in Ashbourne. The food was home cooked and tasty, nicely presented and well served. We had the salmon, new potatoes and salad, a mushroom home cooked quiche and a Mediterranean vegatable and goats cheese quiche. All served with buttery minted new potatoes and a mixed salad which was a delight, a plethora of fresh salad vegetables with a light dressing, we had water to drink.

The food is delicious and varied, a great place to have a tea and scone or a lunch. Tea is the best in Derbyshire and their homemade piccalilli is to die for. There is a great selection of cakes. We always take some of their bread rolls home and a jar or two of piccalilli and scones for desert. Its in a great location you can sit in or out and watch the world go by. A firm favourite.

We visited here for elevenses on our way to the stepping stones. We opted for the FRUIT scones and coffee. We felt it could be so much better..The scones were dry and no fruit inside at all , it was as if 2 had been stuck in the outside .. The Jam was a big disappointment. ... cheap ..It would av been so much better using locally sourced jam with pieces of strawberry inside. .. would av made such a difference. my partner ordered a flat white ..It was just a white coffee ..my capaccino wasn't too good either ... lots of potential here for it to be so much nicer with a few tweeks, as the surroundings are beautiful and a lot of passing trade.

We came here for breakfast as were staying at the George and Dragon, and really enjoyed it! The menu is different from the traditional B&B;, so as an exiled Derbyshire person, I was able to enjoy a pikelet, and my husband had good bacon sandwiches. The ambience was clean and fresh with newspapers and prompt and smiling service.

We regularly stop here for lunch or just a coffee when visiting Ashbourne, as the quality of the food and the service is always very good. This was again the case for our latest visit, where we enjoyed a tasty lunch at a reasonable price. Particularly good today were the quiche of the day and the tarragon chicken salad from the extensive specials menu. The dining area isn't huge but the staff are very attentive and ensure that the tables are turned around quickly between customers so no-one was waiting to be seated for very long at all. The in-house deli is also well worth a browse on the way out! Recommended.

Can recommend the ham hock terrine with piccalilli. Knowledgable about gluten content of their dishes. Very friendly helpful service. Coffee good too!

Read other Trip Advisor reviews before visiting and they are right! This is really good, from the imaginative, well-presented and well-cooked food to the very pleasant and efficient staff. When we visited it was nicely busy without feeling rushed or experiencing any delay in service....

I was walking through Ashbourne when i spotted this delightful place with the smell of cheese, cake and coffee hitting me in the face. the food is so lovely and reasonably priced too, located in the heart of ashbourne to suit everyone’s needs. well worth a visit, well done to all the staff that work there; great job xo

A much needed pit stop on Saturday afternoon and we got exactly what the doctor ordered. My coffee was delicious and the carrot cake moist, Moorish and marvellous. A lovely selection and staff were nice and friendly.
