Bracken Place Restaurant in Test Valley

I had a wonderful dinner with my wife at The Bracken Place restaurant inside The Hilton Doubletree Hotel in Chilworth, Southampton, England on our trip to our Norwegian cruise. First the restaurant manager, Gee, was so pleasant and helpful to us as we entered the restaurant. She made us feel very welcome and glad that we had come to the restaurant. Our server, Bashu, did an excellent job helping us with the excellent menu. My wife had the vegetable curry and rice and I had the beef brisket. Our food was delicious and we also had the watercress/cheddar/ale soup to start. My wife claims that is the best soup she has ever had! So, if you are coming Southampton to join a cruise or just visiting lovely Southampton, please try The Bracken Place restaurant.

Hadn't booked but we're staying as guests at the hotel. Was able to eat in the bar or restaurant. Ordered starters and mains. Mushrooms - okay, slightly greasy nothing special. Mussels - divine. Would definitely order again! Pie - local butcher made, tasty and filling. Slow cooked beef brisket - to die for! Would easily order this again and again. Service good, staff welcoming and good selection of drinks.

Really relaxing end to a week before an airport run tomorrow. Super service from Vikram - very attentive . Trout and roasted vege was delicious. Puddings naughty but nice. Very chilled atmosphere.

On Friday evening (14/07/23) my wife & I had a table booked at the Double Tree Bracken Place Southampton Restaurant We were served by the pleasant knowledgeable Vikram who had a big hand in choosing our evening meal. The meal was cooked & presented well. Thank you Double tree.

Dinner was dreadful. Breakfast! there wasn’t any left at 9.30am They wouldn’t refund our £40 as we paid via travel agent. Had to go to local cafe and pay again.

This is part of the Doubletree Southampton where I stayed for one night. They have a decent straightforward menu and I opted for the fish and chips, can’t go to far wrong with that I thought. The fish was good but the advertised “chunky chips” turned out to be French fries. The “mushy peas” were merely crushed peas in mint sauce. The restaurant was quiet and elsewhere they were catering a wedding so maybe their minds weren’t fully on their restaurant customers. I will give them another chance because I’m staying at the hotel later in the year, hope they can improve.

Came to the Bracken Place Restaurant for Afternoon Tea with a friend with mine and it was aweful! The place was completely empty with zero atmosphere. The food consisted of 3 tiny sandwiches each and the fillings were simple: ham and tomato, cheese and pickle and egg with spinach. Along with three cakes each: carrot, Victoria sponge and blueberry cheesecake. The two sponge cakes were ok but the cheesecake you couldn’t even take it off the plate as it was so soggy! Finally the scones, completely plain no fruit and clearly shop brought, never seen anything so small! Went to cut it but the knife wouldn’t even go through. Was supposed to be a “Sparkling Afternoon Tea” but they forgot to get it for us, when we asked it took half an hour to get to the table. Luckily it was good company because the food and service was shocking!
