I had meatballs in sauce on a flat bread with salt and pepper fries, absolutely absolutely fantastic, eat half my meal and asked a female member of staff could I take the rest home for later, everything was perfect, thanks for making our visit so enjoyable... we will be calling again soon.

Rang up to enquire about the carvery, was told rather abruptly that it's served all day everyday, like I'm stupid. turned up around 6 ish to be told there is no carvery, not even a sorry. drove 25 minutes as well as had heard loads of good reviews. Won't be visiting again

First time there. It was in the middle of my friend in Blackpool and myself in Manchester so we met for lunch.

We came here with our granddaughter, what a lovely experience. The food was fantastic and the staff were amazing. Our granddaughter loved the play area (that was spotless) and there was a lovely lady doing arts and crafts. Would highly recommend 👌

Went here for Sunday carvery ,it was very disappointing , everything was cold Yorkshire pudding still frozen, we didn't eat much at all. Did complain but got no feedback.

Called for carvery today after not being for two years. Meat option eaten by mother was flawless! My vegetarian option was stuffed pepper, it was a bad choice of veggie option to put with a carvery. Perhaps a nut roast? Didn’t eat it but would have prob been delicious with rice or pasta …However, the plate of fresh, hot vegetables, sauces & veg gravy were the best I’ve had in a very long time. You could actually taste each individual vegetable! Well done to all. Will come again! Very satisfied, thank you

Having had a lovely meal here a few weeks ago, we decided to go again today. What a disappointment, we were shown to our table and opted for The Carvery, once we started eating everything was cold and the ham was very fatty. We did complain on the way out, but were simply asked if no one had checked back. They hadn’t, she was apologetic but that was it and just walked off

Always a pleasant visit and meal, staff are really friendly and on hand, cakes are fabulous.

First time eating here today and the atmosphere etc was so nice , friendly staff and chefs. The food u just couldn’t fault it I had a carvery and my husband had chicken burger and he is fussy and said it was gorgeous and my carvery was so so nice. Definitely recommend here can’t wait to visit again thank you so so much. Do t normally do reviews but felt this definitely needed a 5 star review

Wasn't a great visit, was fairly quiet 4 tables in...one table was complaing as we was waiting for our starters, but the staff seemed to deal with it fine and all was sorted, another couple had ordered carvery, they was stood 15min at the carvery stand waiting for someone to come serve them, the front of house (two that was on) was in the kitchen, the couple got a refund and left, our mains came out tikka was alright buttermilk burger lovely my daughter said, my steak however was cold the butter wouldn't melt on it, I did send it back and they did re warm it but it then it just tasted too much of charcoal off the grill. The service was very poor the front of house staff shouldn't both be in the back

Came across this place on a Christmas walk fantastic. I visited the cemetery opposite and found P C Cook was buried there murdered by Charlie Peace.

It is o.k. for a carvery. The food tends to lukewarm as it is put on the deck quite early. They should put out the gravy and condiments before beginning to serve. Should have cranberry sauce available.

Ordered food at 12:30, 2 people having starters 2 were not, starters came promptly and good. Mains took till 13:50 to arrive, mine looked like the peas had been catapulted on the plate and 3 of the meals were stone cold the 4th got a carvery and that's hard to get wrong. Handed the food back and it took 40 minutes to get fresh food, average at best . Got fobbed off with excuses and a miner deductions Will not be going back

It's mediocre, foods ok nothing special, they only do the carvery at weekends now which is a shame. Always use to be busy, but only a handful of people there now. My friend needed a gluten free menu, but this wasn't catered for, although they were able to advise what they could provide, by showing an allergies folder.

Absolutely amazing staff and great food, one of the best Holts' houses. I've just had an amazing time celebrating my 50th birthday here and used the private function room with their diamond buffet. I would truly recommend it.. Thank you team

Went in for a drink really nice and cosy atmosphere

Came today around 1pm, all had the carvery, all our meals where lovely, plenty to choose from.

Place was once very good, and I rated it highly. But sadly it has gone down hill slightly in more recent times. The value is not as good as it once was and neither is the quality. I think it's just about OK, but for me not worth it these days.

I had the festive burger, which was very nice. There was some kind of brisket on it, which was very crispy and tasty and the little pigs in blankets mini burger/slider on the top was a nice touch. Tasty fries too, and delicious gravy.

Really nice food. Couldn't believe how big the desserts were!

I recently came to the bowling green to have the carvery, the meat choice was good however the veg was very minimal with little left in the pans of each choice making it not really worth the money

We had the carvery,the food was dry, the roast potatoes tasted like frozen potatoes cooked in cheap fat,the mash was disgusting and the veg was bone dry. The prices were not very reasonable and £6 for a pint of strongbow dark fruits!!! The staff were very nice and it was clean. Would I recommend or ever go back? Definitely not!

Plenty of choice we had the Sunday carvery it could have just been a little hotter but the quality of food and price was good.

Went for a carvery staff lovely atmosphere nice however the meats under the lamps had flys landing on the meat really off putting luckily a staff member brought new gammon out so had to have that as already suffering with gastric conditions it really was off putting they need to ensure the meats are covered

Lovely family place, great for children with indoor and outdoor play areas including interactive screens and childs arcades. Food is very reasonably priced with a good selection. Nice selection of ice cream and drinks. Plenty of parking available.

Appalled at the state of my food today - absolutely freezing and not nice when it was returned "hot" I've given three stars for service as I couldn't fault the young girl on service and the guy on the front as they were polite and gracious when I complained but, for the 'chef' to serve cold food is just awful. My nephews chicken nuggets could have broken glass they were that hard and chewy and they appeared to have been re fried more than twice! My friend ordered the fish - but they failed to mention in order no tartare sauce ( yes a minor inconvenience but when the rest of the order was shocking it adds up!) Carvery meat looked like it had been there for days as it was so dried out from the heating lamps and the carvery in general looked like a dogs dinner. When we arrived the pub was half empty so not as if they were run off their feet with orders either. I was going to make a formal complaint to a manager but to be honest I just wanted to get out of there. Not a good experience and won't be retuning.

Disappointed to be fair. There was only turkey on the carvery and most of the buckets were empty so not much choice. it was not really a carvery. Pretty poor order management.

Visited with my family, great food and friendly staff. Carvery is great along with the menu, food came out fast and piping hot. drinks great value. decor is inviting and a great outside area, great sun trap, when we get some sun. Will be coming back

We decided to drop by for lunch as we saw it was doing carverys and quite close to where we live. It's a lovely pub really friendly atmosphere and the staff where lovely and polite. The food was amazing. The veg was lovely and fresh and the roasties where good but for my own preference I'd have liked them a bit crisper but they was still delicious. The cakes are amazing and we throughly enjoyed our visit and will be back soon.

Main meal had hair in. Let the waitress know no action or apology. Service was poor and extra training is clearly needed. Good kids area.

Been for tea tonight, rang up to see how busy they were, said they could fit us in, so reserved a table quick service, tasty food. Great service from our waitress Louise.

Food was surprisingly good (even for the kids, veggies and vegans) and staff were very nice and very helpful. Kids play area, great bonus. Really well ran pub.

Had my sons christening party in the function room, staff were great from booking until leaving! Really helpful, nothing was too much trouble and friendly. Food was good, plenty of it and very reasonable price per head. Would definitely recommend the Bowling Green for anyone looking for a function room!

Great carvery! We went to Harwood Hall for Sunday lunch and paid more for so much less. The quality is way better too. Excuse the excessive amount of mustard in the pic!

We stopped on our way past for lunch. We were so surprised to see such a nice menu with some really different dishes from place. The food was first class and the staff were very friendly. Really was impressed

We ate off the new menu and were very impressed. The little starters bowls are very tasty - we had the hot honey chicken, then had the Moroccan kebab, it was delish. The staff are friendly, it has quick service and such a good play area for little ones.

nice relaxing place great for kids play in the beer garden and arcade food a bit pricey tho.

Were we was placed to have a meal Me feel cramped up and the waitresses Kept bumping into and my side Twice they got it wrong Then the fries what came out was Burnt we Did say something To the waitresses Saying there would bring some more out So when they came out They also Were Burnt meal finished Very disappointed with been coming there 4 years . absolutely dont think We Be back

We had the carvery meats spot on, had a choice of turkey, beef, and gammon. 3 different sizes of meals available. Would have liked lamb or 1 other meat as a choice.

Called in with family all had a carvery. The best food I've tasted for a long time you could not find a fault . And price was very reasonable. Staff was.polite did a good job tell the chef is food was very good how ever the roast potatoes could of been a bit browner.. thank you for agreat meal we will see you soon

I must say that myself and family were very disappointed with the recent carvery we had on Sunday the 28th of April. The meat was quite nice as was the gravy and Yorkshire puddings however the compliments stop right there . The rest of the meal was diabolical though to be honest. Veg was cold, the roast potatoes were very hard and tasteless , the most unappetising part though was the mash which had hard lumps in it. We passed on our critique to the waitress and there was absolutely no come back from the chef or management. Best part of £80 wasted . Please don’t throw your money away , I really don’t like to be so critical but felt we were totally robbed 😩

Drove from Horwich because it had a kids play area, which to be fair wasn't too bad. But the food.... Wow it was bad. I paid over £15 for a burger that was dryer than the Sahara with what looked like Aldi fries. My daughter had the cheese pie which tasted more like mash than cheese. Really disappointed.

We regularly go here for carvery but it’s not as good as once was. Meat portions have gone smaller and poorer quality. The roast potatoes are awful and today’s mash was wet, sloppy and tasteless. The front of house staff have all changed and the bar staff who served me today seemed to see me as an inconvenience to their chatting. The whole place was much quieter than usual as well. Things need to improve.

Came here on my wife's birthday as she was really looking forward to a good carvery and we heard this place was good. Upon arrival we are told that they have no beef or turkey so if you want the carvery it's gammon or nothing. Not much of a carvery then is it. So disappointed, won't be coming back.

Bit disappointed with the carvery the meat was very nicely cooked, however the vegetables were overcooked and soggy.

We were on our way into Chorley after a busy day and we're looking forward to dinner. We drove past the Bowling Green and decided to turn around and go back to it. Best decision ever! The food is excellent, the choice and quality of meats - turkey, beef and ham were all cooked to perfection. Vegetables were varied and also first rate. Would've loved to try dessert but had no room. Great value for money. We will certainly be back.

Visited evening 21st March, very quiet. Was very impressed with decor as it’s been a few years since I last visited. My food was really nice in fact everyone’s was , didn’t see anyone have anything from the carvery. The service was disappointing, maybe due to there only being a couple of staff. We ordered a main and a dessert but had to go to the bar to ask for our pud to be brought out. As my friend approached the bar the staff member initially turned away from us even though there was no one else at the bar. We also saw other customers waiting to be served at the bar. Overall we had a lovely evening and enjoyed our food. I would visit again but it wouldn’t be on my go to list.

Quite noisy environment, My husband and I had the Wrexham chicken it was quite dry the chips was frozen chips I was expecting home cooked chips, green beans was nice, my daughter had cheesy garlic bread and creamy muchrooms which see said was good, 3 grandchildren had chicken nuggets and chips which they like and was enough on plate. Not somewhere I would go again.

Chips were undercooked, asked to recook and came back still undercooked. All staff were grumpy, especially front of house. No soft play as advertised, children’s area was very poor. First and last time visiting this place…very disappointed

Wasn’t really good at all. Didn’t enjoy the cold food. Poor selection. We’ve had some really good food there in the past so a big let down.

Husband and I used to be regulars at the Carvery when it first started some years ago was quite disappointed when we went on Sunday, it was no where near as good as it used to be, won't be going again.

Cheap food for kids. The play area is free and good for toddlers. Separate adult area nearer the carvery. Worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.

Lovely place to visit especially in the summer but they need to get rid of all the wasp nest otherwise we will only eat indoors

Poor carvery dried up vegetables and dry beef had to ask for replacement vegetables use to come often 6 years ago sorry it's not what it used to be pity lovely place and the gentleman how was behind the bar did come over and asked if we were happy he did apologise....

We had the carvery which was very good apart from mash and veg was cold ,it was quiet when we arrived but grandson enjoyed playing in the play area.

Called on Sunday for the carvery. Was OK. The turkey and gammon was lovely. Nice gravy and mash but the veg wasn't great. Service was good. Nice and friendly On the whole as a carvery it was value for money.
