Bouchard Restaurant Inn in Newport

We loved Chanterelle! The atmosphere reminded me of Park Avenue restaurants in NYC. Swank, sophisticated, comfortable and romantic. But better than that, the food was fantastic. The sweetbreads, steak tartar and the special Mediterranean soup were all outstanding as were the profiteroles and Gran marnier souffle. You'd spoil the effect if you didn't at least show up in business casual. A definite must if you are in Newport.

Our dining experience at Chanterelle Restaurant was disappointing. The evening started on a sour note as our suit-dressed male server took a long 30 minutes to approach our table, and an additional 30 minutes passed before we received just one salad. While the server appeared polished, he set a negative tone when he corrected when I tried to order a glass of wine and said, no and that he would take the entree order first. After he successfully sold us on the sea bass, we were informed an hour and a half later that it was unavailable, highlighting a severe lack of communication between staff and the kitchen. Although we would recommend the mushroom ravioli and Cabernet ($18 per glass), it failed to salvage the overall frustrating experience. Following our decision not to order dessert, we were served a single complimentary souffle to share among three people. Newport has many outstanding restaurants for better dining than Chanterelle.

Kamen mit der Fähre von Providence und hatten eine wundervolle Anfahrt übers Wasser in das herrliche Newport. Kurzer Fußweg zum schnuckligen kleinen Hotel Bouchard. Nette Begrüßung und eine super Überraschung mit einem herrlichen großen Zimmer. Ein großes Box Spring Bett in der Mitte des Raumes ( mit der Höhe hatte ich schon zu kämpfen 😂) ..Kleines Tischchen zum Frühstücken und eine riesige Ledercouch ..Anrichte mit Kaffeemaschine und Tabs …Über 3 Seiten Fenster mit Blick zum kleinen Segelhafen. Was will man mehr ? Das Badezimmer ebenfalls sehr groß und mit super flauschigen Handtüchern bestückt . Sehr gemütlich und mit Liebe eingerichtet. So stellte ich mir ein kleines amerikanisches Haus vor. Jeden Morgen stand eine duftende Tüte mit Croissant, Früchten oder Joghurt, frischen Orangensaft auf einem aufgeklappten Wandbrett vorm Zimmer. Kaffee und Tee ohne Limit im Zimmer. Herrlich. Im Erdgeschoss befindet sich ein Restaurant der gehobenen Klasse. Leider bei unseren Aufenthalt im off. Hätten das auch gerne genossen. Möchten uns herzlichst bei Euch bedanken. Haben jede Sekunde in dieser Stille in einer wundervollen Gegend genossen. Hoffen auf ein Wiedersehen. Eure Buhrs aus München

Charmant restaurant, ambiance surannée assez inattendue aux US. La dame à l'accueil n'est pas spécialement avenante, mais le reste du personnel est très aimable. Bonne cuisine française, plats bien exécutés. Vivement recommandé si de passage à Newport.

Superb restaurant. The food and service was exceptional and the venue is intimate. Perfect for a special occasion, romantic dinner or just an incredibly fine dining experience.

Fantastic spot in Newport. We had gone when it was Bouchard maybe 10 years ago and had a great experience. Not much has changed and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I think someone else called it a "restaurant for grown ups" and that's exactly what it is. The meal and service did not disappoint. Max was our server and took great care of us!

A good Waiter, in this case: Captain, can make or break an experience, and the person assigned to our table of 5 even more pleasant than the food itself. It made for a great great evening that we were handled so well. I was glad that Jackets weren't required on the Monday night that we were there, though you won't find that information anywhere on their website. Not really sure what "Business Casual" means. As I said, the food was grand. The perfect portions. No one at our table had a bad meal. And while we were there to celebrate a birthday, there were a few other tables doing the same thing. Dishes were a bit on the high side for cost, but again, were all delicious. None of us wore masks. I just want that known. I can't say I'll ever return to this restaurant, but that's only because we don't return to Newport more than once in 30 years, and there are plenty of other restaurants to try. But if you're reading this, and you like French Cuisine, put them on your short list to check out.

My husband and I, spur of the moment, decided to go out to Chanterelle. The menu and reviews looked good so we accepted an 8:45pm reservation. Please note that I packed hurriedly for this trip and didn’t have my normal ‘wardrobe’ but nowhere was there any mention of a dress code. We arrived to check in - I was wearing black slacks and a black and white linen blouse but I had forgotten to pack black flats so I was wearing some new black and white converse sneakers - and I was refused entry because of my sneakers!! We were sent down the to their sister restaurant - completely different in nature - where we were lucky enough to sit at a bar in front of a tv. The noise level was extremely high and the menu was radically different from Chanterelle. $205 later, we left after having reviewed Chanterelle’s website and there was absolutely NO mention of a dress code. Totally aggravated. We walked back to Chanterelle to speak with a manager - none on site? I’m completely appalled. And you should be too.

Beautiful interior, good, not great food and too many rooky service mistakes for a fine dining experience (dirty dishes left too long, had to ask for silverware).

This is fine dining- with a lovely, upscale ambience and fabulous food! The service was wonderful too- Max was our waiter, and he was impeccable. We made a reservation about a month ahead, and still couldn't get the exact time we wanted. It's on the quiet side, with carpeted floor. We eat at lot of fine dining restaurants in our hometown of New Orleans, and this can hold a candle to any of them.

Bouchards/Chanterelle (new name) is hands down our go to restaurant in Newport for a special occasion elegant dining experience. This visit was a mid summer getaway to get some downtime and Bouchards was naturally a part of the plan. We made reservations and we were promptly seated upon our arrival. My wife's Manhattan was perfectly mixed and our starters of tuna tartar and mushroom vol au vent were both superb. Even better was my Cornish game hen and my wife's duck a l'orange if that was possible. Both were mouth wateringly succulent and full of flavor. Service was provided by Nick and Delray in the impeccable fashion we've recognized as a standard here. We will always have Bouchards on our list of fine dining in Newport.

very bad service. We went there at 9 o’clock. Despite we said that we had a big problem and that we had to eat in an hour they said with rude and bad manners that it was not possible to eat in less that 2 hours and a half. Very rude personal. A place to avoid.

I had expected a change when the original Bouchard’ s flipped to Chanterelle. The menu was pretty much the same Dover Sole for 63.00 etc. ( who pays 63.00 for a small piece of fish ?)This restaurant has not had an update in 20 years. The decor is old and tired. The staff is extremely snobby. Our “ table captain Max “ had food stains all over the front of his blue blazer. To say it was off putting is an understatement. They also tell you about their dress code when you make your reservation . The 3 hosts at the front desk were not dressed as you would expect in a fine dining restaurant. If they demand a certain style of dress to eat at their establishment but do not follow that same rule why both to mention it? Very weird vibe . Don’t waste your time here.
