Perfect experience at this tapas bar, couldn't wish for anymore!!

Food has gone downhill since the last time we went. Sadly won't be back

Visited this place recently on a Saturday evening and best to book in advance as its only a small venue. The menu had plenty of options and also offered an early bird before 5pm of 3 dishes for £18.95. As a coeliac it can be hard doing the tapas sharing dishes but the restaurant confirmed they used a separate fryer for gluten free so that was a massive bonus for me. I ordered; chorizo, patatas bravas, garlic mushrooms and chicken thighs. Portion sizes are decent and the service was great. The waitress was really clear about gluten free and she would notify the kitchen. We all enjoyed our meals and no reaction. Highly recommend if you’re in the area.

Well the title says it all when it comes to the food! Have been a few times before but as my dad was up visiting I thought to bring him along. Loved all the dishes I tried but especially the Manchego & Leek Croquetas, Chorizo in Honey & the Chorizo & Octopus skewers. Service was really good as well, attentive & friendly but in no way overbearing either. Also worth recommending were the Churros & Sangria, I tried the Rosé one which was I think actually nicer than the standard one, the Limoncello addition to it added a nice zing. So would highly recommend, worth booking a table too especially on a weekend as it's for good reason very popular!

Beautiful tapas, every dish was bang on! Nice wee spot just a 10 min taxi from town. Food reminds me of Bar San Juan in Manchester, lovely!

Just like to start off and say that the food here is decent, nothing special but tbf it is tapas so it's never really gonna be something that lights the world on fire. Came here for a birthday meal with my partner and it was a quiet Thursday night and we were served by a male in his 30s (don't want to name him as that's a tad harsh) Just gonna say he was friendly enough but he was, no offence to him - a little annoying. Hanging round the table none stop felt like I was being eavesdropped on by a KGB agent - He also kept telling me to 'dig in' whilst I was waiting for my partners plates to arrive, just let me eat how I want to eat mate To be honest though, this didn't really bother me too much but what really did upset me and I found quite pathetic to be honest was when we came to pay the bill we paid 10% each on top with our card as a tip and he instantly became moody and sulky and rolled his eyes and gave a sarcastic thank you bye when we left... Just going to say mate life is quite expensive atm and people don't appreciate rude attitudes like that - Also maybe if you weren't such a pain during our meal it might be the you could get tipped more often

This is our first time in Newcastle and we stumbled upon this gem by chance. We are so glad we did! The food was phenomenal, the service excellent. The flavors of the dishes were perfect harmonies! Our top recommendations are the baked feta, chicken with mustard cream sauce, and the Patatas Bravas. You really can’t go wrong with any of them. We will be back!

I have been before and the food was fine. This time I was not impressed. It was a Saturday night and they were quite busy, however The food did not seem freshly cooked more heated up. The prawns were very disappointing. Desserts poor. Over priced for the quality of food.

We had an amazing meal here. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. We overordered - we did not need three plates of tapas each! but it was so delicious we still managed to eat it all. Good value, it was about £85 for three people with an alcoholic drink each.

Very very very nice. Lovely place in a nice part of the city. Quite small which just makes it better in my opinion. Have had pretty much everything off the menu in my few visits and it's all first class. Staff are great, wouldn't call it cheap but worth EVERY penny and more. Can't wait to go back. Only wish it was closer to home. Bravo Boquerones !

What a fantastic surprise this was. We got in at 19:45 for our dinner reservation and it was soon packed, up and down stairs. The food was sensational and we were so glad we chose ten plates, all different tastes but very authentic. Jan was very knowledgeable and an excellent host. Even the cocktails were impressive. When back in the area we will go again. Cannot recommend enough 5/5

Went on a date night here a week or so ago and somewhat enjoyed the food however I was a bit let down overall as had high expectations and I believe the service was somewhat slow and these two factors have warranted my 2 star deduction from the possible 5 hope to go again though and have a better experience hope it was a one off and will give it another opportunity

This was our first time here but will not be the last by any means. First rate food, service and atmosphere, wine was exceptional, thank you Boquerones.

Great little place this, walked in off the street and it was fully booked on a Tuesday evening. However the staff managed to find me a space to myself and I had a some lovely tapas. Definitely recommend the cooked chorizo in honey! The gambas were very good too. The creme brulee was dessert of the week and that was had with a glass of the Spanish sherry. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. All in all definitely a place worth visiting if you’re nearby.

Excellent food, great friendly staff and tapas and cocktails deal good value. Can highly recommend 👌 the Patas Bravas beat we had and the block and bottle steak was superb.

After reading good reviews (mixed in with some average reviews) and seeing that this is number 1 on trip advisor I was sadly disappointed. This was very average and not somewhere I would return to, or recommend to others. The tapas was incredibly bland, very little flavour- and sadly not Number 1 trip advisor worthy. Apologies. There was sadly no stand out dishes, and it was on a whole very poor. The upstairs is incredibly crammed, with the tables very close to each other. However this was not a huge issue.

This experience was truly exceptional. The Spanish cuisine was authentic, the service was impeccable, the food quality was outstanding, and the staff were incredibly friendly. Ash’s personality really made our day. We loved it and will definitely return.

Having lived in Gibraltar for 3 years and spending most of that time eating across the border in Spain, probably the most authentic tapas around so we'll worth a visit but make sure you book.

Heard a lot about this place prior to visiting and been to a few different tapas places around Newcastle but this one tops the lot. Portion sizes were spot on, great atmosphere despite being a Wednesday night and the flavour in the food was amazing. 100% will be back again

Third time we have been and the food was as good as ever . Pleasant staff with friendly service. If you like tapas food you will love this place . The one negative is please get your front entrance door closer fixed so that the cold doesnt come through everytime someone enters or leaves the restaurant .

Nice tapas. Book in advance. Lots of parking nearby. Waiters were having a few arguments next to us. Service was fine. - chorizo: best dish. Balanced, moreish and juicy ✅ - patatas bravas: well cooked ✅ - blood orange salad: delightful. fresh and sharp. changed the flavour profile of the meal. ✅ - boquerones: anchovies❓ - bread and olives: they offer it when you sit and it felt like an upsell. £4 for the olives, £5 for the bread and aioli❓ - salt and pepper calamari: didn’t enjoy ❌ - mackerel croquetas: giant balls. I don’t like the texture of blended fish ❌ - chicken: boring - chicken needed colour ❌

We went to celebrate my daughters birthday and had a great experience. Service excellent. The food was good ... the only thing that disappointed was the Serano ham was supermarket type ham. I've had enough tapas to know that the ham is usually one of the big highlights and felt slightly let down when this generic serano turned up. Shame. Otherwise all the usual tapas dishes were good. Sorry no photos this time...

There’s a really good range of tapas, which all taste superb. (Especially the Octopus, Mussels, and Almond Chicken for me). Lovely drinks too, and most importantly: really friendly and attentive staff! I’ve never had to wait long. Sometimes I’ve booked in advance or just walked in and both have been seamless.

We have been a couple of times to this wonderful restaurant. The food, drinks and service is excellent. One of the best Baileys coffee I’ve had in years. Proud to Supporting local independents. Keep the good work up.

Once again the food was outstanding we have never had a bad experience. The steak and pork dishes were sublime. I cannot recommend Boquerones Tapas and Cocktails enough.

Beautiful and authentic tapas. Each dish was beautiful, but the butterbean and garlic spread with Serrano ham was stunning!

An overall amazing place for tasty, affordable, authentic tapas with generous portions, in a well decorated lively atmosphere with quick and friendly service. I recently went here with my family while visiting for the holidays, and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not usually, unfortunately, one for trying new places, between the anxiety and neurodivergence, but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming, even if it was busy, and we had to wait to be seated, even past the time we booked a table. Needless to say, they apologetically took our orders of drinks and food while we waited, so it was ready as soon as we were seated. Now, I only ordered one cocktail, and it was amazing, and there were many more to choose from, offering a range of unique interests cocktail builds, and an array of classics too. The food was wonderful, some of the best food I've had possibly ever. I think I'd struggle to find something on this menu (which is neatly organized for mobile with e QR Code) that I didn't like. And again, this is coming from a relatively fussy eater, and I loved everything. I found myself so full, but enjoying the food so much I just couldn't stop. The service is kind and friendly, servers even stopping for chats, recognizing regulars, and seemingly trying to build community actively within the local area. Now. I wish I could be 100% impressed. But there was one thing that let me down with this place. This isn't the time or the place to discuss gendered vs. non-gendered bathrooms but; this establishment has 2 toilets that are INDIVIDUAL stalls (a room with a toilet and sink), and yet they're gendered, for seemingly no reason. It makes even less sense when the one accessible bathroom is also labelled as female? What? They are toilets for 1 person; gendering these toilets does nothing but directly target and harm gender non-conforming or trans* individuals, putting in place barriers for their needs and comforts, and oddly in this instance, creates a strange scenario for disabled men who must use the 'female' restroom. It's odd. Making both of these rooms unisex, while identifying the assessable toilet as such would ONLY make a more comfortable environment for marginalised people. But I digress. Overall, a lovely place, which came to around £120 for a family of 5, which included a bottle of wine and drinks, and we were all stuffed. I'm definitely planning on dining here again if given the chance

This place is excellent and the only Spanish Tapas restaurant in Newcastle I would take my family. Definitely up to standards with Spanish cuisine! Great food, great cocktails, nice atmosphere and good service with good prices for the quality. Being from Spain, I can safely say this place does really good Spanish food and not the usual knock off like the rest :)

Amazing authentic tapas in this quaint Heaton restaurant. Everything we had was off the highest quality but the croquettes and prawns stole the show for me. Along with some excellent sangria. It should be said the prices are high especially for the area but it’s certainly a case here of getting what you pay for

What can I say, phenomenal from start to finish. We were greeted with champagne for our anniversary and a really warm welcome. The tapas is delicious, get the creme brulee afterwards it's gorgeous. The service is the best around. The decor is beautiful and we felt so relaxed in the restaurant. We felt like we'd been a hundred times with the warm welcome. They make you feel like family. We had Asif serving us and he was fantastic and we can't wait to come back.

The best Tapas and Sangria in the North East. Portion sizes are good and the quality high.

Had a wonderful experience with Asif servicing us. I had chorizo with honey, the "boquerones" and chicken thighs with cinnamon and almond sauce. EVERYTHING was amazing. I will never have chorizo without honey ever again. Any so called foodie should be stopping at this diamond of a restaurant.

Excellent food, excellent cocktails, excellent cocktails. Baked feta takes 20 minutes longer than everything else but is one of the best dishes. Don't fill up before it arrives like we did!

I've walked past this place plenty of times over the years, and never decided to go in. What a mistake! This was possibly the best tapas I've ever had. I always order patatas bravas in a new place, because it's a "safe bet", but theirs was good enough to be the star of the show! Everything was so flavourful and well crafted: the duck & orange croquettes were incredible; the chicken stew was mouthwatering; even the frittata had a subtle, smokey flavour; and it all worked so well together. I was underwhelmed by the dish the restaurant is named after (small sprats, sliced and marinated), but only because I had imagined it as big chunks of whitefish, so that's my own fault 😆 Service was friendly and prompt: even though we hadn't booked. Asif made us feel welcome, and well looked after. 10/10 would come here again. I just wish I'd discovered this place *before* I moved from Newcastle to Scotland!

We are from California, and Boquerones Tapas and Cocktails was some of the best tapas we have ever had. Everything was delicious, particularly the steak that comes from the butcher next door, and the baked feta with grapes. Great service by Asif. Beautiful atmosphere as well. Highly recommended.

The best food I have ever eaten. I was absolutely blown away by the food it was so delicious. The drinks were amazing as well. I had the lemon and blueberry spritz (think that is what it’s called!) and it was perhaps one of the nicest drinks I have ever had. The food came out promptly and the staff were so incredibly friendly and accommodating. Truly a wonderful and delicious experience I shall be returning!

Absolutely stunning tapas. We had 3 tapas each plus bread and were stuffed! My only criticism would be that the service was so quick we were in, eaten and out within an hour! Not necessarily a bad thing though! Thought that the baked feta with grapes was a slightly weird combo and the padron peppers were very bitter. However this may just be personal preference as the rest of the food was absolutely incredible! Definitely coming here again!!

Excellent service and very nice food - the tapas steak was particularly good, it couldn’t fault any of it. Even the Boquerones fish, though not to our taste, was very good value and an experience! Would highly recommend!

Very good tapas and friendly, attentive service! We had a lovely meal here, the albondigas (meatballs) and tostado were stars of the show, absolutely delicious. It’s a cosy little place to have a meal and the staff are super friendly.

Best tapas we have ever had. Was supposed to be a quick stop off meal on our one night in Newcastle before a week in Edinburgh. And we still talk about this meal as a highlight of our trip. Amazing. Loved it.
