Only my second visit but after such a good lunch on my first visit - excellent schnitzel and potato salad - I took my brother. The food is really fresh and tasty and comes in such generous portions that we couldn't manage pudding even though I really want to try their kaiserschmarrn. The spätzle and käse bockwurst were delicious and made me very nostalgic for proper Austrian comfort food but all the food is great and my crayfish caesar salad was huge! I had started with a sour cherry spritzer and that was huge too but really refreshing. The house lager is very good. Service really friendly and helpful and I'd be interested to see how it is in the evening because during the day it doesn't really have much atmosphere because of the work diners and slightly dodgy music - sorry! I'll definitely be back and my brother loved it too.

Grausig!

This is the 2nd time I have dined at Boopshi's and again it was another 3-4 star for me. The food is really tasty but maybe a little too large in portion size. The ambience is very cool and trendy but can seem quite cramped and a little noisy. The staff were helpful and friendly but maybe at times a little too tentative. That said I would definitely come back and recommend to friends - next time I'd like to try the bar downstairs!

Unfortunately it wasn't what I was expecting. Me and my friend we both went for a schnitzel and how surprised was I when I realised it's served by itself (£12 a piece). We had to order side dishes to complete the meal which were ok, but nothing exciting. Was missing mashed potatoes or baby potatoes that would make this meal filling. The beer was good. Would except more local Austrian beers. In total we had 2x Schnitzels, side of 1x Sauerkraut and 2 beers and the bill was £45. A bit expensive for the amount of food we got. On the plus side the place looked cool and the staff was lovely. :)

A winning combo of fantastic schnitzel, with a great array of sides, and a mean aperol spritz to wash it all down. We were there mid week and it was not so busy and the upstairs is quite small but there is a big downstairs which was closed and so we could imagine the atmosphere picked up on busier nights. Food itself was great and all came in good sized portions, so we were not left hungry, and despite the prime west end location (just off charlotte st) the bill was not frightening either.. would definitely go back either for a quick bite to eat or for more of a big fun group event.

I love schnitzels and I wanted to try the boopshi's one with a side like the typical egg dumplings (spatzle), here baked with cheese. Average experience: this is a bistro not a restaurant (predictable from the name), plates and deco are essential. The venue is clean, waitresses are friendly, food is above average but not exceptional. Quite diminished by being in a hidden road, frankly it's not my favourite place for a schnitzel ("czech club" still superior). On the whole, a positive experience though...

I've been wanting to try Bopshi's for a while since I came across this place by accident one day as I headed for dinner nearby. The schnitzel I had was probably bigger than my face and was tasty. I had mine with normal egg whilst my friend had his with a duck egg. I have to say, we couldn't really tell the difference but they were equally good. Sauerkraut and pickles were also good and generous in portions. I'd say avoid the high chairs which are way too close to each other. The person behind me kept on bumping into me which was rather uncomfortable. The lower tables seemed absolutely fine. It was more expensive than I expected but it was a good dinner and I'd be happy to go back again.

I was there with a group of 6. We all had different kinds of schnitzel. I went for the pork schnitzel with gravy and a duck egg on top and chips as a side dish. The food arrived promptly although the place was not really busy. The staff was very friendly and the wine really good for a reasonable price. However I was not impressed by the schnitzel. It was quite dry and blunt-tasting, not how a Viennese schnitzel should be like. Given that this the main/only dish they offer I suggest they review the way they cook the meat.

There is a good selection of sides, although it's a shame that the schnitzel doesn't come with any salad or vegetables of any sort, as this would make it more of a balanced meal. Happy times.

Now, the only thing I'd note is that there's a stark difference between the two floors - the ground level is filled with natural light, as it has big windows looking out to a small street. The lower floor is the complete opposite, entering a dark room with the table arrangement looking like small dark alcoves. That's where we were and it shouldn't put you off at all - they've done well keeping the air clear and the music level at a normal level down there.

I'll say go go go. Being a Tuesday night it was quiet with only upstairs open. We had Vienna and chicken schnitzels which filled the whole plate with gravy on the side. Our side dishes were tasty - potato salad, pickles and the Spatzle ‘ N ‘ Cheese. When you have to add sides to the main it does become expensive - more than a Sunday Roast. The 3 of us shared a strudel with ice-cream which was tasty but certainly not needed - we rolled out the door. The staff were friendly and did not rush us.

And for the desert I highly recommend the Grandma’s apple and raisan rolled flaky pastry and the fluffy shredded pancake with caramalised raisans and plum compote. Great service, very nice waiters. Now for the spritzers I recommend the Sour Cherry Wine, Morello Cherry, Sherbet, Prosecco, the Pear, elderflower liqueur, dry vermouth, sherbet, Prosecco, and the Kamm and sons, almdudler, sherbet, prosecco. The restaurant is unassuming, with no frills. But that's not what we were there for... the food is what we were there for!The spaetzle with cheese and speck (smoked bacon) was excellent. The schnitzels were enormous, but overcooked and therefore too dry. The cucumber salad, which is the traditional accompaniment to a schnitzel, was FAR too sour. On the other hand, the potato salad was excellent. Dinner for four of us, including some (very good) beers, but no desserts, cost us around £120, which is reasonable value given the restaurant's central London location. Not bad, but really not an authentic Austrian dining experience.

I went here with a couple of friends and thought this place was pretty good. I had the chicken schnitzel with anchovies and sampled each of the 3 sausages that they serve. All in all, pretty good food - nothing flash, not a fine dining experience, just good solid food. They also seemed to serve a decent array of drinks on the menu too. Pricing seems ok, considering central London location. The service was friendly (as it should be for the automatic 12.5% service charge added to your bill), and the atmosphere in the place was pretty good - fairly relaxed. There is also a cellar area downstairs, because we all know that Austrians love their cellars (hence my Josef Schnitzel pun in the title - hope you appreciate it). One of the weird things about the place is the gents toilets which have minimal headroom due to the curved-cellar walls. The urinal is up against one such curved wall meaning that if you're anywhere near 6ft you'll have to duck awkwardly to take a slash. If you wanted to stand back at a distance where you could comfortably avoid having to duck, you'd have to have to be endowed with a fairly large bratwurst in order to reach the urinal its self.

Lovely room and central location.

We ordered schnitzels and were disappointed to find that they came with no vegetable or salad garnish. Just a great slab of meat on the plate alone is quite unattractive. Vegetable side orders seemed heavy on the chips and spatzler and light on anything healthier. Unfortunately it was raining and the coffees took time to arrive, slightly cool.

The toilets were clean etc but looked as though the Stasi kept files down there until yesterday.

We won't be back most likely - a pity since Austrian food is usually so good. Score: Oops Could do better

What a great concept. The veal schnitzel was amazing and the sides were delicious. We did get the all without bun although 2 were ordered with bun but we were pleased to have them out once we saw them. Service was good and I will be returning again and again!

Small menu with Schnitzels options and decent Bratwurst sausages. I had the plates of meat which was a bit expensive for a main course, but in general the prices are reasonable here. I enjoyed the Austrian Beers and the atmosphere was open to any age to feel comfortable. It has outside seatings as well.

I work in Fitzrovia and as such am very lucky as get the chance to eat many of the best eateries in London. I was excited when Boopshi's opened as Schnitzel is a personal fave. I have been three times. The first two times I had the signature Wiener Schnitzel - both times it was chewy, gristly and not particularly nice. The third time I went i moved onto the Pork schnitzel which was lovely however one of our party had the wiener schnitzel which again was partly inedible.Boopshi's is perfectly reasonable if you don't have their signature dish, which on experience is poor. Maybe they should spend more money on getting decent meat, and less on the beard grooming of the staff.

Boopshi's is a small restaurant but with big food. I went with a friend and opted for the chicken schnitzel with fries and a German version of macaroni cheese . My friend went for the veal with a duck egg on top and some gravy. Schnitzels were huge and delicious, service was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was good. It's based in a really convenient and accessible location and was a really fun evening.

My wife had lived in Austria for 10 years+ and had high hopes. It was good but.... my wiener schnitzel was nice but lacked a little flavour (I will go back and try the pork version though). The portion size was good though. we shared sauerkraut, cucumber salad and spatzle. If only we'd had room for kaiserschmarrn. I also though the beer prices were a bit steep (but maybe that was because I was drinking pale ale @ £5.5/pint).
I will go back as I want to try the bratwurst and kaiserschmarrn.

The upstairs seating area was very nice, unfortunately we were led downstairs where it was much too dark (not ambiency candlelight type dark, but hollister type dark). In terms of space, we also felt really boxed in.

Perhaps it had to do with not being able to see what i was eating, but nothing we ordered tasted better than mediocre.
Pork schnitzel topped with duck egg and capers/ chicken schnitzel were simply deep fried pieces of meat. I understand that good quality meat had been used, however there was little depth of flavour. And my taste buds are known to be pretty sensitive- my mum once made me blind taste a sainsburys free range egg, a happy egg and a Clarence court; I passed with flying colours!
Potato salad- again, mediocre.
Spatzle and cheese- comforting mac and cheese flavours, but over cooked noodles.
Sauerkraut- good, but not better than a typical serving of sauerkraut.
House salad- overdressed. That being said, the olive oil was lovely and grassy.
Apple strudel with custard- the best thing of the night. Warm, spicy apples in crisp filo. Custard was rich and smooth. I take back my words that nothing was better than mediocre. This was wonderful.

My experience in boopshi's was not bad, merely "meh".

No longer do I have to pop over the Channel when I crave a good schnitz fix. We had the veal and the pork and were very VERY happy with both. The spaetzle (with added speck) was smokey and cheesy, the pickles tart enough to cut through through the fried meat but sweet enough to be scoffed solo. Will definitely be back!

If you love Spritz and you love fun/modern Austrian twist cuisine - you will love this place. If you don't, you won't. I do, and I do. Sauerkraut with Speck, Chicken Schnitzel with a hen egg. Most superb indeed. This place does, however, lack ambience. It's pretty plain. That's my only criticism. Will be back more than once.

Boopshi's is fast becoming one of my go to places in Fitzrovia. Been several times for lunch, this was the first time in the evening. The lovely schnitzels in a bun that I love aren't on the dinner menu but that didn't matter as the whole ones are. The portions here are very generous, one chicken schnitzel and a couple of sides were plenty for two of us, and we brought our appetites with us! The schnitzel was thinking and crispy on the outside whilst being tender and melt in your mouth on the inside. Sauerkraut was a heaping dish full of warm deliciousness and the beers and spritzers washed the lot down a treat. Staff are friendly and efficient. Next time, will be hoping to continue trying out the cocktail menu at the downstairs bar. All in all, a little gem.

Not a good representation of a good schnitzel. The service was poor if not completely non existent and considering you pay £15 for a schnitzel quality was not good. We were put downstairs were, apparently, there was a more relaxed atmosphere - where as it actually felt like they put the people they'd rather forget about down there.

All of that aside - we were not well after the meal.

Having read very mixed reviews about Boopshi's I was slightly concerned that the meal would be disappointing. Luckily the food was really tasty. The mains are very reasonably priced and our group tried the chicken & rare breed pork schnitzel. We had them with duck eggs & anchovies , winning combination! The macaroni side dish (forget it's real name) was really good but expensive for a side, the sauerkraut with caraway was also good. The cheese stuffed sausage with sweet mustard also recommended 😋
Our waitress was really helpful and friendly and our sour cherry cocktails delicious. Boopshi's is great to meet friends for lunch. I would recommend it & think it's good value for the mains.

We were eager to like Boopshi's - but we just couldn't. We both thought that the Wienerschnitzel, while edible, was nowhere near what it should be - it was too thin and too dry. Sachertorte was a huge disappointment too - no trace of the apricot jam, just generic chocolate pound cake with a thick slab of cheap and cheerful chocolate icing on top. On the plus side, both the Sauerkraut and the potato salad were decent. The service was OK - however relentless music (acid jazz, I think) was merciless and didn't help things. Overall - mediocre and disappointing.

The ups are that this has the rare boast of not being too busy for a central London bar. You have to book and therefore there's no crowds standing around. The downs are that the prosecco is on tap and as a result it's flat and the ale is expensive. Food is fairly good but with so many options around I think you could do better. It's a needs must kind of place for people who work nearby - with some slightly awkward looking couples on first dates.

We were really excited to discover that there was a restaurant close to where we work that sells schnitzel. However, their schnitzel was terrible. Dry and unexciting. Very disappointing for a restaurant that supposedly specialises in one of Austria's tastiest dishes ('Schnitzel and Spritz' is their strap-line). Service was poor. Our sides, which for the record, were perfectly decent, didn't all arrive with the main. In fact, one of them eventually appeared about 5 minutes after we'd finished eating. We'd tried to summon a member of staff to enquire about the missing dish but it was very hard to get hold of waiters. To further cement our disappointment, the bar missing some ingredients from one of their signature cocktails. Not to worry, said the waitress, and promptly recommended something else not listed on the menu. She failed to mention the difference in price and we were left with a pricier bill than expected. When challenged, she became very defensive and borderline rude. We had merely suggested that it might have been nice to have been informed that the drink were were being offered as a replacement was 50% more expensive than the ones we'd originally asked for. This was the first time any of our group had ever asked for the optional service charge to be removed from a restaurant bill and we will not be going back.

My husband booked this restaurant after reading that a top chef dines here. It was my birthday and we were looking forward to trying something new. It was so disappointing to say the least! The Prosecco was flat. The rose veal schnitzel was tough and sinewy! We would have excused the bad food if we had good service from the waitress. She was cold and miserable and TOTALLY spoilt the night for us. If she didn't enjoy being front of house why was she there - making our night miserable as well. The longest face and most unhelpful.Never again!!!N.Kelly
