Tastey perfect cuisine. Freshly prepared and generous quantities. We travelled from the city centre to Edinburgh's sunny Portobello just to savour Bonoful's fantastic flavours. We will cheerfully return. The staff are brilliant. Welcoming and calming.

Bonoful has never disappointed us, we get takeaway regularly and sit in every so often - the service has always been fantastic and the food is delicious and fresh! Great place to go after a visit to Edinburgh’s Seaside - if you’re not from Edinburgh and are here for the festival, it’s worth the journey to get away from the city and enjoy some authentic Indian cuisine!

My mum said this was the nicest Indian food she'd ever had.

Average really and quite expensive. Tandoori mixed grill came with the skinniest chicken ever. Onion Baji was a flat Pattie that practically glowed with red food colouring. Rice and Naan was quite nicely done though

Very disappointing takeaway, onion bhajis were actually the worst I've ever had, soft, salty, overspiced patties- horrible. Garlic chilli lamb was also a bit salty and just 'okay' no depth of flavour at all, whole green chillis in there had no bite or even heat to them. Nothing delicious about it at all. Chapatti okay, Naan okay. Expensive and honestly pretty rubbish. I will never order from them again.

Had a fabulous meal, tried different dishes which we were both very pleased with, peshwari was delicious im not always a fan of this bread but im all for it at Bonoful. Great atmosphere, service excellent, definitely will be back. If not sure give it a try, sure you won't be disappointed.

Bonoful offers exceptional quality of food. The menu provides both individual dishes and classic curries, prepared by a knowledgeable chef in a high class setting. The staff are friendly and attentive. I could not recommend this restaurant more. For curry lovers, you cannot do better than Bonoful.

Lovely meal on a lazy Sunday night.

This is unequivocally a three star experience. The food was pretty good, sides better than curries. Service was as weird as possible. They tried to upsell us on things we didn’t want and everything was surprisingly slow.

Delicious Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine including vegetarian dishes and a very kind service. Some dals might be spicy for Europeans, so be careful. Also it is located near to the beach. Greetings from Germany

Best curry joint the East of the city

Hmmm, always wondered about Bonoful, and am unlikely to have another go now. Just tried pakora (vege and haggis) to take out as a snack, and for sure I was disappointed. It always looks so quiet too, no idea how it can turn a profit.

Really delicious food and relaxed atmosphere. I've eaten here twice in the past month and it was equally wonderful. The staff are friendly and attentive and you don't feel rushed out like a lot of places.

The ultimate BEST Indian food ever! What a gem in the middle of Portobello. The staff are one of the kindest you can ever wish for, professional & smiley. The restaurant is lovely, warm and classy. The environment spotless. The food is delicious, full of flavour and melt in the mouth. The fish curry, chicken shazlic, naaan breads and home made deserts were outstanding! Thank you chef! The food is absolutely delectable! You pretty much can't make a wrong choice because everything on the menu is just wonderful. The restaurant itself is relatively small and cozy which means it's never too loud so it an ideal environment for an intimate meal out. And the staff are always perfectly attentive and pleasant!

Great food, but that's three times in a row the food had been more than 45 minutes later than the estimate in being delivered. If I'd known the true delivery time, would have collected, but as it is any benefit of the doubt or goodwill has evaporated. Will not be ordering again.

I had the tandoori mixed grill, which was tasty, but for £21 it is remarkably expensive. Despite being advertised as coming with salad, no salad was provided. It also does not come with rice nor naan, you have to pay extra, which is really bad. The food tasted good, lots of onions which were charred and tasty. Meat was one prawn, one kofta, a very skinny chicken drumstick/though, and a couple of pieces of chicken/lamb shish. I ordered a naan which was nice, thin and crispy rather than thick and fluffy. Overall a tasty meal but incredibly expensive for what was provided.

It's a bangladeshi restaurant in edinburgh served us delicious foods but the portion of each servings doesn't match with Asian culture .. another thing is , it only opens at 4 pm

Been going to Bonoful since it 1st opened and in my opinion it’s the best in Edinburgh, staff are amazing and very welcoming, food is fresh and tastes fantastic, never had a bad experience always a great one. Lovely atmosphere, spotlessly clean. Xmas day menu is amazing and so different. Give it a go you won’t be disappointed.

This is the most fantastic Indian restaurant. Lovely restaurant with great decor and lovely snowy white table clothes and napkins. Great ambience, lovely staff and fabulous food. I really don't think that you could get a better class of food anywhere in Edinburgh. I unreservedly recommend Bonoful for a wonderful eating experience!

Last few days ago I went to Bonoful Restaurant it was my second time at Bonoful.I was very impressed with their food,atmosphere and especially the behavior of their staff.It felt like I had picked up where I left off.The quality of their food is amazing👌.Another thing I really like about them everything is so clean and tidy. From now on, whenever I come to Portobello, I won't miss their food. My suggestion is that those who are looking for good ambience and delicious food should go to Banoful. 👍

Absolutely brilliant food. Delicious curry every time but their price point is becoming ridiculous. A curry and naan (no rice or anything else) should not cost £18. Now at the stage of becoming too expensive to enjoy which is really sad.

From start to finish the staff, food and service were first class. The Restaurant is spotlessly clean as is dare I mention the Loos. Will certainly return and recommend. Also a great place for delivery or takeaway.

I spontaneously decided to take away a tandoori roti there today while waiting for my bus. I waited for almost half an hour which is way too long for roti, as it does not take that long to prepare. When I asked one of the waiters halfway in if my order was ready soon, he seemed rather annoyed. It was hard to understand him, so that he ended up shouting at me rather aggressively until I finally understood what he said, which was disrespectful. One of the other waiters apologized for the wait as it was a busy day. I can understand that, however, They still should have told me beforehand that I would have to wait that long. I also wasn’t told beforehand that card payment came with a 50 pence fee. Their prices seemed rather high in comparison, as well. The roti itself tasted fine, but the entire experience was very unpleasant.

We had to phone 3 times to query the delivery after receiving a message saying it was on its way. Not good enough.

My husband and I had a lovely evening here. The food we had was just fresh and delicious. It was Monday evening so restaurant pretty empty. We had lovely Chilean Sauvignon Blanc which went perfectly with what we ordered. It was great evening so please come here and enjoy authentic Indian cuisine. We need to support our local restaurants especially after Covid. Thank you very much to Said and Mittal (hopefully spelt correctly! Sorry I've not). Meg and Drew x

Its a lovely atmosphere, Looks classy and romantic to dine out with your Husband or lovers, partners, Etc-3x 🤗 Very friendly staff, attentive. A bit expensive but it's tasty and the staff are helpful, very kind and understanding your needs and give a better service and useful advice.

Please note that my review it's not reflecting the food or the service I have been provided - 5 stars for that ! My 3 star review is simply there because of the pricing. Im not a rich person but also not very poor. Today I was hungry and decided to pop in. I was probably the first customer of the evening so the guys there have chance to shine, they went above and beyond to make me feel happy and comfortable. Unfortunately this not change the fact that I was simply ripped off. I've been in few restaurants in my life all over the Country and abroad but paying nearly £70 for a single person dining in for a 3 course meal ??? I did not even go fancy - yes I have drunk 3 Cobra's then small starter, normal Curry and rice, some bread and cheap dessert. I this really come up to nearly £70 ? £64.55 was my bill and then I give them £3 tip as I could not afford the suggested 10 % :((( Please correct me if Im wrong. If I'll take my wife and baby with me the bill could easily come up to around £150 - £190 maybe £200 ?? Yes the food was great (almost) as the starter chicken wings was not that good. Curry and the rest was amazing. I'll upload receipt here for yourself to judge. Is it paying £5.50 for 2 popadoms and all the sauces ok ? is it paying £3.50 for small bowl of just boiled rice ok ? is it paying £7 for a Cobra ok ? I'll leave it with you. Im not tight and Im not person who moan but fu...me ! put it that way for your calculation, for a Cobra, boiled rice and 2 popadoms you will have to pay: £16 quid. What this world and this place come up to ? Normal family have to spend nearly £200 for a dinner ? are you guys for real ? Whatever good was you food you will not see me there again ! And others - I hope will learn from this review. YOU paying for that Cobra £1.50 in Costco there is no need to charge £7. Bag of rice will do you 100 bowls like this is there need for charge customers £3.50 for a small bowl of boiled rice ? is it ? Not happy at ALL !!

The atmosphere of Bonful Restaurant is very good,as well as their staff is also excellent and their food quality is very good and delicious. Bonoful is one of the best restaurants I have visited in Portobello. A perfect place to spend a good time.

Probably the best Indian restaurant in Scotland! I love Indian food and have been to a lot of Indian restaurants around Scotland, and the Bonoful is by far the best!! Well worth a try if you’re in or around Portobello!

Excellent food and great service. This is one of my favourite restaurants anywhere. Even in the city centre, I haven’t found an Indian style restaurant where I like the food more. Starters were good but the main courses are exceptional. I had Juipiri, tried my friends Tikka Masala. All very good. Rice good and the Nan breads were pretty decent too. Parking nearby is available but you sometimes need to walk 5 minutes. The downside here is that the prices have gone up yet again. It seems that every time we go! £14.95 for my main, £8 starter, Nan and rice up too. Costs have gone up for restaurants, but so have my bills and my wages haven’t, so I either go here less often or find somewhere else. Sort your prices out!
