Very disappointing. Would not recommend given the price and general attitude of the staff. I did contact the establishment following the meal, offering them a chance to put this right, but received a less that satisfactory response. In short the food and place was good, but the staff extremely rude, service very slow and food took far too long to arrive. On the night we were offered up a whole host of excuses from covid and a technical error, to it's busy and this is the time when everyone comes to eat (yes that does happen between the hours of 19.30 to 21.00?!). Only when we threatened to leave did our food belatedly turn up (we had ordered oysters to start which took over an hour to appear - I am not sure they involve that much preparation). When we queried the slow service the staff were extremely rude and condensing. The restaurant was probably half full, so why it took so long I don't know. I don't have a problem with slow service - but when the staff are rude and have a general attitude suggesting that it is your fault not there's and that they are doing you a favour then I do have a problem. Overall it was very expensive for what it is. I would avoid and go elsewhere. I have been in contact with the restaurant subsequently and one thing they did say was "I wonder if there was a misunderstanding? Perhaps my colleague sounded abrupt due to his language limitations." Suggesting that the service was ok when it wasn't and that we misunderstood is not the way to put issues right...

Having enjoyed the other Boisdale restaurants we were delighted with the intimate atmosphere of this newly reopened venue. Excellent music from a young jazz singer and the usual high standards of steak and haggis to eat. The only downside was the slightly yobbish group of city boys smoking in the narrow alley entrance but the music and food is downstairs away from them. Even with a dinner and music offer, drinks and desserts plus service will leave you little change from £100 a head but it is worth it.

We had a 3 course lunch with soft drinks (driving later). The starters were haggis and calamari croquettes. The croquettes were very good, although I wouldn't have known they contained calamari. The haggis was excellent. Mains were a chicken salad and a chicken burger - both very good. Ice creams & sorbets to follow - both good. So, a fairly simple lunch, but an enjoyable one. The restaurant was far from busy, therefore ideal for a good chat, although the ambience would have been better with a few more customers. Discounts offered on the food, so the cost of the meals was pretty reasonable. The decor was good - lots of old photos of celebrities from bygone decades - and nice, cosy feel to what looked like a converted cellar.

Every member of the team is faultless and pays so much attention to the customer and adds to the whole boisedale experience. I’m surprised by some of the reviews. I too was downstairs for dinner with my wife last night and we had an amazing meal. I never witnessed any of the negative comments in the last review and we were there all night. In front of all the staff. The general manager Ines was fantastic and attentive as always. She was spot on with the grouse recommendation. La mujer rubia es un gerente pobre y muy grosero. Su personal es excelente. Cuando llegamos al restaurante, ella estaba yendo al barman por mala comunicación. No hizo nada malo.

Overpriced and weird old fashioned scottish theme set in, what felt like, a vampire's den. £70 + for plainish stuck together ravioli, a burger and two cocktails. I don't mind spending money but the quality needs to reflect this. Another slight annoyance was that diners were given different treatment - we were told what table to sit at (not a particularly pleasant place right by the cash registry bit despite an empty restaurant), whereas another couple that came in were asked where they wanted to sit. A small point but neverthess unprofessional.

I had a working lunch here on a Friday with one other. Our welcome was lukewarm at best. We thought we had a good deal with the OpenTable offer of a burger, fries and drink for £15.50, but a service charge was added and the sparking water was £6.95, so this turned into a >£40 meal, which was not reflected in the quality. The burgers, whilst being made from good meat, were burnt, dry and bland and we had to ask for ketchup; then being served one portion initially and told to ask if we wanted more. The service was below average, with waiters interrupting us four times to ask if everything with our food was ok, whilst we were trying to have a conversation. They kept kicking/knocking my chair every time they served the people next to us (frequently) and at one point reached right in front of my face (I was leaning on the table, deep in conversation) to remove an empty water bottle that clearly should have been removed from the other side. It's a shame, I wanted to like the place, the decor is quaint and eclectic and I note they have Jazz music nights, but I won't be returning.

Four of us booked in here for a birthday dinner. The venue is cosy, interesting and definitely different. There’s a Scottish feel to both the decor and food. Service was great with a super-attentive waiter who offered advice and recommendations. The prices are high but we expected that for a fine dining venue. However I would not describe the food as fine dining and in fact, what we had could easily have been described as unimpressive pub grub in terms of taste and presentation. The ribeye steaks were burnt on the outside and medium rather than the medium rare ordered. The fillet was well done and the ‘extra’ (at £7.50) fois gras 2 of us ordered was severely overdone - it seemed like it had been deep fried for 10 minutes. They did replace these but the replacements were just as overcooked. We were eating late (at 9) and it was a birthday celebration which we didn’t want to spoil the tone with constant complaints so we didn’t send the steaks back - we probably should have on reflection. The cheese board looked impressive until they served a selection to our table - then it resembled a cafe offering. The final insult was discovering an added £14 (entertainment fee - a pianist was playing in another room) and an automatic 10% service fee. It’s unlikely we’ll return. So disappointing for a meal £300+.

As one of the party was pregnant we had a slight issue with getting the Steak well done, but the team corrected this a quickly as possible, probably broke the chef’s heart to burn the it to a crisp! Would definitely return for another occasion!

We were meeting friends and wanted somewhere close to Liverpool st station. It is very close - almost opposite the entrance but down a passageway next to Dirty Dicks! We opted for the set price 2 course dining with music. The building has a nice relaxed ambience with mood lighting- even romantic! We had a drink at the bar before being escorted to the restaurant in the cellar. Staff were very attentive. The set menu was limited in the dishes offered but covered all the food groups. Food was good but there wasn't any wow factor . Two in our party chose trout but were surprised that it came as a cold meal - not sure if that was detailed on the menu or if they just overlooked it. The pianist/ singer was entertaining but it was awkward in the sense that you didn't know if it was acceptable to carry on conversations with your group or stop and pay attention. We did a bit of both and showed our appreciation between numbers.

Our meal was of very high quality and fabulously prepared, but I think the message that we were taking advantage of the "50% off food" offer had been passed to the kitchen, and they went ahead and reduced the portion sizes accordingly. Half the price for half the food seems fair in some senses, but I'm not sure that's the point of the deal - and if we're spending £90 a head (post discount) on food and wine, then I think we deserve to leave full, rather than spending the journey home looking for places to grab a snack.

Delicious food, good service and great ambience, but if you're taking advantage of the 50% deal then you'll want to bring a sandwich.

Great service, we were asked to wait to be seated and it was done so well and we were offered an extension of Happy Hour so we really didn't mind. All of the staff were so friendly and informative.

Hidden in an alley which is always difficult to find on a first visit. Unusual place on 2 floors with dark decor, would be better on a cold autumnal evening. We sat downstairs in a booth which was great for our girly catch-up. There was live entertainment which was away from us so not at all intrusive and suited our occasion. However, there were various dining options when I initially booked, but we were not asked if this was ok once we arrived so be sure to opt for the best one in advance or at least confirm. We could see that those that opted for the set meal including entertainment were sat in a different area as to those eating a la carte etc. Food typical fare, but tasty and we had to pay extra for the sides (chips) to go with the burger. The burnt toast ice-cream was very nice.

Service with a smile not!

The ladies were quite pleasant and smiled by the men just looked grumpy. Our order was taken by a rather grumpy waiter and I found it quite dark inside the restaurant.

The tapas we got were ok, but the main meals we had were very disappointing, the burger was dry (how difficult is it to do a decent burger these days?!). And the lemon sole was a soggy lump of mess. Our broccoli was over done to the point where the florets were crisp brown. The truffle chips were a bit sickly after a while.

Overall it was not a great meal and the service was not great, did not make us feel welcomed. Also we had the 50% off through open table and it was not included on the bill so we had to point it out. Which we did not want to have to do. Even with the 50% off this meal was not worth it and I won’t be back. It’s a shame because the food used to be good. I guess cost cutting at its worse.

My partner and I recently went to the Boisdale by Liverpool St station. We were on our way home and were hungry. It wasn't planned but we didn't fancy junk food.

Pret is always my go-to for semi-healthy and fresh lunch on the go when I am in the city. Their coffee is good, and I love their hot meatball wrap.
