The ambiance and interior was great, certainly what i would expect of a restaurant in London; the cocktails looked and tasted amazing however the food was a massive let down. To really improve, Boho Mexica needs to make fresh authentic food in line with its feel and ambiance. The Empanadas where over cooked and tasteless and the Enchilladas tasted like a freezer meal. Not good! The restaurant definitely has potential- shame about the food!

Es un lugar bastante pequeño y bastante discretos a pesar de estar en la carretera principal, pero la comida y el servicio es excelente. No es realmente un lugar para un grupo grande, pero no te puedes equivocar para usted y un grupo de amigos. I took my brother here who was visiting for a couple of days. Really good nibbles and loved the pork tacos. The waitress was great and didn't push us to order more than was necessary. The bar staff was friendly and fast, loved my margarita. It gets a bit loud when the small rooms get busy, but that is expected.

My friend and I usually head to Lupita as it is in the same area but decided we wanted a change - so when here! We won't be going back. The margaritas were fab but even they did not remove the cramped conditions in the restaurant we were basically sitting on the laps of our neighbouring diners which may be good for the restaurant is not conducive for a nice Friday night dinner. It wasn't great that when I say down they said to let you know you have 90 minutes. I managed to go up to two hours but 90 minutes - you are having a laugh. The food was ok but nothing special and my vegetation friend was a little underwhelmed. A change is as good as a rest but it just means we will be Lupita-philes moving forward.

The menu much more varied than your average Mexican restaurant. The ceviche we tried was fantastic, as were all of the 6 different tacos we all shared. The mains were pretty big and very tasty, the only downside being the average salads and sides, as the guacamole was a bit salty. The place itself is shabby-chic, perhaps a little too far towards shabby but very atmospheric. Overall, more impressive food towards the start of the menu although a very good experience all-round.

Food was OK and services really nice and friendly. The put some tortillas and guacamole for which charged a good amount of money. My meal was decent but nothing special for £17.5 but just enough for a late night. At the end of the meal they charged £28 pound for the services, really a bit excessive as we spend there less than 60 minutes. Though we had booked a table, we were left standing in the doorway for several minutes while a staff member checked it out. This was despite the fact that there were several empty tables, and that one of our party often ate there. We placed our drinks order, which come quickly. They were very interesting, and I did enjoy mine.We shared starters. The Sea Bass Ceviche, Courgette Flower and Cheese Empanadas, and the Slow Cooked Brisket in a Chilli Sauce, were all flavoursome, but they lacked a bit of heat--both of temperature and spices. The Corn bread was O.K.The mains of Lamb Tortillas, Black Bean Massa, and Chicken Empanadas, were the same. Tasty but not hot enough. The portions were not very large.I could not finish the Three Milk desert, as I found it too heavy. My son gulped it down, and smacked his lips! The service was very good.We had been told that the food was truly authentic. I must be honest. I only recently ate "Mexican" food for the first time. We are big fans of authentic Mexican cuisine and run a mile from formulaic TexMex fare so we were delighted to come across Boho Mexica. The restaurant is quirkily decorated and the upbeat but relaxed vibe welcomes you as soon as you walk in. The menu is compact but full of enticing dishes with traditional Mexican ingredients, while the drinks menu offers an array of mouth-watering margaritas, mojitos, caipirinhas etc. Our waitress was perhaps a little over-eager and there was some confusion with our bill but all was sorted out with good grace. Definitely a spot to return to, if only to try the things we didn't manage to sample on both the food and cocktail menus.

This place is now going to be my firm favourite in London. As soon as I walked in I fell in love. It is a cosy little place which is dimly lit with tealights on every table (perfect date place). The margaritas are to die for - I had the cucumber one which was awesome. The icing on the cake was when I asked what dishes did not have wheat in and the waitress came up with a separate menu which listed what dish you could have for each intolerance. Never have I seen such a well thought out menu. The food was heavenly (chicken was fall off the bone and tasty). I chatted to the owner of the restaurant and he was super friendly and had a lovely story to tell about how he ended up in London owning such a cool place. It was nice that he found the time to talk to us and made us feel important. Look forward to revisiting very soon!! :-)

After visiting Mexico many times, here is where I felt I was there again!Traditional regional cooking with a twist. I came here by chance a few years ago and have been a regular ever since. The food is simply delicious. It's hard to find a place with good food and drinks but I must say that the cocktails here were delicious too. Traditional margaritas or choice of inventive drinks. I had to keep trying more, the Chilli in Pink was my personal favorite if you like a bit of spice. There used to be a bit of a cocky Italian bartender but luckily he's been replaced with an all friendly staff. Perfect for a night to sit down for a full meal in a vibrant space, or just a night of cocktails, tacos and nibbles at the bar. Either way you can't go wrong.

We've been walking past this restaurant on an almost daily basis for some time now and have been dying to give it a try. We certainly weren't disappointed! We ordered a selection of starters, sides and tacos (we couldn't decide on just 1 dish!) and they were all wonderful. The pulled pork tacos were melt-in-the-mouth and the Tostadas de Ceviche tasted so fresh and full of flavour. My absolute favourite dish was the plantain - sweet and fried until caramelised and slightly chewy - heaven! The food and the menu felt authentic, unlike some of the more American-influenced Mexican restaurants that you so often come across in London. As for the restaurant itself, we really liked the cosy setting and the relaxed atmosphere. The staff were wonderful - very friendly and also very knowledgeable when it came to deciding what to order. If you don't feel like eating it would be a great place to come for a drink. The cocktail menu is extensive and I'd highly recommend both the Que Guava and classic Mojito. We even got to try a free shot of Mezcal (complete with a slice of chillied orange) at the end of our meal (kind of like tequila with salt and lime, but much less sharp).Looking forward to heading back here to try out brunch soon :)

We popped in for an early dinner pre a theatre trip and we were thoroughly disappointed. We were the only people in the place for our whole meal, we weren't allowed to sit in the window where we wanted, we had to sit at a 2 man only table for no reason. Staff felt like they were chivvying us and had a miserable approach to service. I am vegetarian and the choice is very limitting and when I questioned with staff whether I could have a veggie taco (there wasn't one) - which i would say if it's a place with fresh food should be easily available, and was told no. I did not like the sound of the one veggie option so we opted for 2 sharing tortilla with dips and 2 sttarters. Along with this and one beer and one cocktail, came to over £40. I would happily pay that but I don't expect to leave hungry and like I was unwelcome for that price - thoroughly advise not going.

We had starters and mains and it was great to get food which seemed home prepared and cooked and far from the run-of-the-mill packet Mexican food and chain restaurant food. It was prepared well and arrived quickly and it was all original, served up well and did taste good, but it wasn't obvious what type of meat it was. Service was great from the moment we arrived. The reception was friendly smiling and effective and we were quickly shown to our table. The food I ordered at Boho Mexica was quite disappointing. Mexican cuisine is my favourite, especially enchiladas, which I ordered from the menu and was disappointed to find the dish to be very underwhelming. High marks to the restaurant for using authentic corn tortillas, but I've never been served a dish as plain as those enchiladas. The plate consisted of lightly spiced shredded chicken wrapped in tortillas and covered in tomato sauce. Very underwhelming. My friend commented I was served "Mexican caneloni." I make Mexican food at home often and I know that there are so many ways to make enchiladas exciting and delicious, which unfortunately the ones I got at Boho Mexica were not. I would expect more imagination from a restaurant priding itself on making good Mexican food. I have to say that authenticity wasn't necessarily an issue, I was very pleased to see the restaurant uses real corn tortillas and ingredients sourced from Mexico. However the recipe for enchiladas was not imaginative at all. I don't come to London often and our visit to Boho Mexica was expected to be a treat; I can't speak for my friends, who ordered different things from the menu, but my meal ended up being something I could make in my own kitchen.

The waitress was very abrupt and unfriendly. And to top it off 5 seconds after finishing our starters our mains arrived! Needless to say we couldn't finish them as there was no time for the starters to go down! I was not sure of what to expect before going into Boho Mexica. Authentic Mexican in London, I was dubious?!?As a native New Yorker, with scores of impressive, home-grown Mexican restaurants across the city, I am somewhat of a snob when it comes to Mexican food. Well, for those in London, I think Boho Mexica was actually better than 90% of the Mexican restaurants I loved in NYC.Atmosphere was awesome, crowd fun, great drinks and the food, wa woo! Enjoy!

One of my favourite local haunts on a Friday night. I rarely book and the staff always manage to seat us somewhere dispite the place always being busy. Staff are busy but friendly and attentive. They do a few killer cocktails and have a good wine list. This isn't generic 'Mexican' but genuine Mexican mamas homecooking - the stews are delicious with complex flavours as are the starters (I like the chicken wings and tropical prawns tostadas.)

This is the perfect place for an authentic Mexican dinner with friends. The atmosphere is quite unique trough the dimmed light, latin music and well mooded waiters and bartenders. The "margaritas" and "micheladas" are delicious. But one definitely can't miss tasting any of the "mezcal" selections.I am familiar with Mexican cuisine and I can with certainty say that they do the best "cochinita pibil" and "enchiladas" I have ever tried in London. If I had to name any disadvantage of this place it would probably be that it can get a little chilly in the first seats next to the door in wintertime, therefore if you are sensitive to the cold, make sure you have a seat further in the back.Furthermore I will keep on frequenting this magic spot, which even by being located in one of the most popular streets (2min from Shoreditch hi-street) it has not lost its authenticity.

Wife and I live recently moved to the area and decided to visit for dinner. The restaurant at first appearance seems quite cute and cozy. Tables are small and close to each other. After a bit of trouble seating the group in front of us we were shown to a table just by the bar/till. Getting service was difficult. The restaurant is split into two sections with a wall in between each section. It seemed the staff were always in one section or another - they never had someone covering all bases. After waiting for 10 minutes we finally managed to flag someone down to order. Going through the drinks menu I asked about a cocktail they highly recommend in the menu but the waitress had absolutely no idea about it!We ordered some tortillas and guacamole to start. Tortillas taste similar to the store bought packs and the guacamole had absolutely zero flavour except for avocado. No lime, coriander or salt. Next up was a plate of pork pibil tacos to share. These were actually really good and we thoroughly enjoyed them so we got our hopes up.Main was a lamb barbacoa taquito. Unfortunately this was like the guacamole. No flavour whatsoever except for fried tortillas and some tomato sauce and sour cream on top. During our main we tried to order another cocktail and again it took forever to get someone to take our order. We decided that we'd make a night of it all and got a dessert each. My wife ordered the sweetcorn with chilli and lime. It is literally a whole corn slathered in cream, chilli and salt. Not much else. Don't know what we were expecting!I ordered a dish that was with candied pineapple, coconut and some cream. Expecting a small-ish dish the thing was huge and none of the flavours really went together. Finally getting the bill was just frustrating. There were 3 waiters on duty it seemed and only one seemed to be taking orders. The other 2 just seemed to be walking around. The cocktails themselves are mediocre and overpriced. For £10/cocktail I'd expect more than 25ml of alcohol in each cocktail. Do yourself a favour and avoid this place completely. There are far better Mexican restaurants within a 1 mile radius where you'll spend about half the price and have a far better meal.

The food was delicious and as a vegetarian there was a lot of options. The tables are a bit close however the atmosphere really makes up for it! So friendly and welcoming, really comfortable and we felt like we could spend all evening there. In addition the food is fantastic value for money, perfect on a student budget! Both our waitress and the overall service was brilliant. Need to book a table before as it's obviously a popular place.

Went here for brunch on the weekend. One waitress was really lovely, very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Meanwhile, what seemed like her boss was irritable, crabby and everything was a pain for her. Despite there being only four people in the restaurant. We ordered bloody mary's, which admittedly weren't on their cocktail menus, but they certainly weren't bloody mary's. Just tomato juice with tabasco, and weirdly, angostura bitters. The food was very slow in coming, despite being empty, but it was really tasty, and my Mexican friend was transported back home instantly with it's flavours. So at least they get the food right! The cost wasn't too bad. We would definitely consider returning, but the manager did put us off a bit, which is a shame.

We were passing customers early on a Saturday night and were seated without a reservation. The place filled up quickly and the service was quick and efficient. The food was OK but rather bland and prices were high for the quality. My partner used the bathroom and said it was terrible. Really dirty with a broken sink and no place to dry your hands.

A good Mexican restaurant with a casual bar at the entrance where you can have good cocktails prepared by Maria (all sorts of Margaritas). Good music, nice waiters and good food... So a place I would certainly recommend although cocktails are a bit expensive.

Went here with friends, arrived at opening time-the place didn’t fill up until quite late and so not much atmosphere. Food was average, not particularly flavoursome, served lukewarm (when questioned staff stated it was meant to be like that?!) Disappointed that the food wasn't overly Mexican in taste and that staff weren't overly attentive considering place was near empty when we ate (even messed up out coffee order at the end then the bill too!)Sadly wouldn't recommend when there are so many other great London restaurants around.

We went here on a Saturday night the restaurant was pretty full so they let us sit by the bar and order food there.. It wasn't as authentic as a lot of the other Mexicans we had been to in the past quite bland actually. Probably wouldn't bother going there again.

I've never written a review before on here but our experience at Boho Mexica was the first time I've been actually urged to go ahead and do it. We are big fans of Mexican cooking, and we mean real Mexican cooking, not Tex Mex. The point is we know our Mexican food and appreciate decent Mexican cooking & the great vibe that normally comes along with it. We've been to different parts of Mexico and have experienced the real deal 1st hand so feel safe to say you couldn't describe us as ignorant. We went into Boho Mexica at about 2pm on Sunday. It was empty but we thought that would be nice and relaxing, realising later it was probably empty for a reason. Only the brunch menu was on offer which is fair enough pre 3pm so that was fine. We chose Pork Cochinita tacos and Huevos Longaniza, which was described as 'scrambled eggs with Longaniza (a sausage like Chorizo) which comes with beans, sweet plantain & soft tortillas'. Admittedly we'd never had this dish before but from the way it was described, with the sausage & tortillas, we thought it sounded good and we felt like having a chorizo type sausage. The tacos came, they weren't presented that greatly but tasted nice which is the main thing. We then waited quite a long time for the Huevos Longaniza to come, during which a family and a couple who came in after us had already been served all their food and most of them finished it . Eventually the Huevos Longaniza came and didn't look that great, the plantain was there, the beans and the eggs and we thought the sausage and the tortillas must be on their way but nothing else came. We asked if the tortillas were on their way and the waitress looked at us like we were mad, I repeated myself whilst getting a menu to show the waitress what I meant. She told me this dish doesn't normally come with tortillas at which point I pointed to the description of the dish where it said 'comes with soft tortillas', she said 'oh ok it says it there, I'll get some sent up' with a begrudging expression on her face. We then asked where the sausage was and she told us it was mixed in with the eggs, which is fair enough if you could actually see any small pieces of sausage but you could not see any! We said we'd ordered the dish as sausage was clearly in the description and expected to at least see some form of it in the dish, even chopped up pieces would have done. She just shrugged and said 'that's what it is, the sausage is blended with the egg. Sorry if it's not what you expected' & scooted off. We waited a while for the tortillas to come whilst the egg got colder and when they arrived we tasted the egg and it did not even taste like there was some form of sausage mixed in with it, especially a sausage that was 'like' chorizo. It just tasted like it had been cooked in a different oil than your average scrambled eggs. We ate it all with the tortillas anyway and when the waitress came to clear our plates she asked us 'how was it in the end?' and as she'd asked I told her that we were disappointed as we couldn't even taste any sausage and it wasn't what we'd wanted. She just said again about it being blended and it is what it is and a simple sorry you're disappointed with a shrug. We even pointed at the description in the menu to show how it was misleading and she just said 'it's clear to me' which is ridiculous as she works there and I'm pretty sure anybody I know would have agreed that the menu was misleading. We couldn't believe her attitude, which shocked us the most, she didn't do anything to try to make things better, especially when their menu was doing a bit of false advertising. The fact that the dish was £8.50 too just added to the disappointment, it was definitely not worth it. It also surprised me that she'd asked us twice how the food was for us and both times when we'd relayed our disappointment she had no interest in doing anything about it. Clearly they don't actually care about customers being satisfied, they just want to look like they do by asking. I even saw her have a word with what looked like the manager about what we'd said but it was more of a 'I can't believe what they're saying' type conversation as the manager just shook his head and did nothing about it. We even looked up the dish online to see if we were being unreasonable and in every single picture you could visibly see the sausage, either chopped up or in pieces, either way it was evidently present. I have to say although the dish was disappointing and the menu misleading it was the attitude of the staff that really bothered us. No care about customer service at all, which is really disappointing, especially when there's a tiny amount decent Mexican restaurants in London. I know Wahaca is a small chain started up by an English person but boy is the food and service so much better and reasonably priced too. Mezcal Cantina in Dalston is another great one run by a Mexican family. I'd say go to one of these over Boho Mexica anytime.

I've walked past many times because I live and work in the area. The restaurant looks lovely, very warm, welcoming and romantic with candles on each table. So I thought this would be a great place to go on a date - unfortunately I was wrong..! I booked through Opentable to dine at 9:30 and despite the restaurant taking my reservation for 9:30 and welcoming me in for dinner, they were taking last drinks orders at 10pm and by 10:15pm my waitress was reminding me that she would have to close and kick us out at 10:30pm!! Not very nice, not very welcoming, and it certainly did not impress my date who was a lovely lady from NYC. Given that the mains would be arriving soon (but after the bar was apparently closed) we ordered an additional drink to have with our meal, and scratched out heads at what was going on. The restaurant was literally happy to seat us, take our order, take our money, and then unceremoniously boot us out..! I'm not sure how that is supposed to work as a business model, but needless to say it was not a pleasant experience. This was the one and only time I have ever asked to have the discretionary 12.5% service charge removed from the bill..! I would say it was outrageous, I would say I was annoyed - but to be honest I was just perplexed and upset. They kinda spoiled our night and we were really nice to them. In short - don't go. The experience was terrible. That is not why I go out to eat at restaurants. Attrocious service - this restaurant has forgotten that the customer is their business. (And when I asked why and complained, rather than apologising or offering an explanation or trying to fix the situation, our waitress merely barked at us and said that this was the way the restaurant operates.)

The food was very good- great tasting Mexican food full of flavour. Our waitress was fantastic, our waiter less so (very grumpy- obviously didn't want to be there). When there was a delay in our food, she offered us two free drinks, which was a lovely touch. I must say that the biggest improvement required is for staff not to let loads of people looking for a table into the restaurant at the same time. It's a tiny place, so when people are standing in between tables it is quite uncomfortable and staff can't even get passed them to wait on tables!! Very off putting. Perhaps a reservation only policy is required??

I don't understand why some places in London manage to stay open and operate a business with such poor, unwelcoming and down-right rude staff. People need to vote with their feet and stay away from this place until the people that work there either change their attitudes or get replaced. Really terrible and rude service that totally spoilt our experience. The food and the decor are meaningless if you're treated as badly as we were by the staff. Stay away.

I love guacamole and I have never been to a Mexican restaurant where I don't like the guacamole they serve. That is until I went to Boho Mexica. It was just all wrong. Weirdly wet and honestly tasted synthetic and not homemade. Everyone I was with had the Tacos, which we all thoroughly enjoyed. The drinks were VERY expensive and not that good compared to their price. Probably won't be back.

Fantastic little place. The staff were more than helpful and couldn't do enough for me- even offered me some tequila on the house but I'd had more alcohol than I should have by that point! The food came really quickly and was beautiful, especially the salsa picante and vegetarian empanadas. There were plenty of vegetarian options which didn't feel 'tacked on' as they often do in restaurants, and had thought put into them. The cocktail I had was really refreshing (and strong!) with mezcal, watermelon juice, lime and chilli. I was a little surprised to have a tip already added onto my bill considering I was dining alone and had booked way in advance, but I was so happy with the food and service that I didn't mind paying it anyway.

We arrived for our 6pm booking on time, and the waitress told one of our party that they'd need the table back at 8.30. We laughed and said that if they couldn't serve dinner in two and a half hours we were in trouble... However after an hour and a half, our orders hadn't even been taken, and we'd had one round of drinks. When, at 8.10 the waitress came over to tell us the people had arrived to take our table, we were still eating. She then presented us with the bill without being asked for it. If you're after speedy service (or any service at all!) this place isn't for you. The food was very bland and my enchiladas arrived lukewarm. Overall very disappointing.

The restaurant is located walking distance from Liverpool Street Station near Spitalfields Market. Boho Mexica exceeded our food expectations. Service was acceptable and efficient. The place is small, clean and lively. Decorated with tasteful Mexican kitsch. The menu offers an assortment of classic Mexican (not Tex-Mex) dishes. My wife and I have a deep connection to Mexico. We have lived in Mexico and in Texas. Boho Mexica is as close we have come to offering an authentic home-style Mexican meal in Europe where all the places we have found (except for Candelaria in Paris) are actually Tex-Mex (which actually is Texan/America but is widely labelled Mexican). We miss Mexico so over three days we visited 4 times and tried most of the menu items once. All the dishes are generally true to their roots. We did not find one bad dish. However, we had two issues: First, the absence of complementary salsas, there are salsas available but at additional cost which is a serious breach of Mexican culinary protocol. Second, they were way too light on the cilantro (fresh coriander), peppers and lime. Both issues easily remedied by ordering salsas and asking for cilantro and lime...but we should not to pay or ask for them. Good value. Well located. We will be returning.
