Possibly the worst chip shop in hull, chips I got were WAY overcooked and just very oily, if anything how quickly they were handed to me from the time I ordered should’ve been a marker of that, I’d rather wait for good quality chips than receive whatever that was.

Discusting food the chips were so oily no taste and really fattening. The fish was overcooked and was served with too much oil. I asked the staff is this how you cook your fish and chips they rudely replied yes. I had food poisoning afterwards and threw up badly. Never again rude service and oily foods. I would give it 0 stars on everything to be honest.

The only bob carvers left in hull , always have been coming here more so when the other restraunt was open , staff always lovley and friendly , the food is great , highly recommend fish and chip meal , but also have the best breadcrum patties , 10 /10 always for a great meal

Fish was just batter and very oily , no taste in the food including the chips, crust on glasses, beef burger doesn’t come with the bun? Have to pay extra and not a very good atmosphere

I have got this shop through searching google map. It was the worst experience i have had in 2 points 1-Food was so oily which smashed the taste of it. Although The ladies serving in takeaway side are so nice and helpful but that thin guy was so rude.

Awful. Watery mushy peas, cod when I asked for haddock, and the chips were far to greasy and tasted like the oil they'd been cooked in is in dire need of a change. Shame really, as it's reasonably priced, fantastic service and lovely staff. Hopefully this was just a blip, and it's back on form again soon. UPDATE: In response to the reply: I very nearly did mention it, but my partner talked me out of it because your staff was extremely busy at the time. In regard to the fish it certainly wasn't like any haddock I've had before, watery and tasteless. Like I originally said, hopefully just a blip.

Can't beat a bob carver's fish n chips with peas , but also a breadcrum pattie. Highly recommend to all chippy lovers , eat in or take away

Its normally really nice, today the pattys was stone cold and didn't taste of anything. The chips was swimming in grease.wont be coming again

had a special two breaded patties mushy peas chips tea bread and butter lovely and for a special the portion was lge staff excellent down to earth atmosphere 10/10

Great place to eat proper authentic fish and chips which this iconic family are renowned for here in Hull. The service is second to non and the girls are dementia friendly, as my mum is disabled and they are wonderful with her

This fish and chip shop has been closed for several years, and appears to be permanently closed. It is absolutely not open as Google suggests.

Our last visit here was terrible. Ordered fish and chips and asked for some tarter sauce when I opened the sachet and put on the food it was green I checked the date and it said 2021! I shouted the waitress over and she took the sachet off me and went to talk to the fryer and then came back and said its just a best before date 🤣🤣 I told her but 2021 is a bit bad! At this point the fryer came out and offered to change the chips so I thought fair I was happy for her to do that but I ended up leaving majority of the meal as it just wasn't nice. When I got home I didn't feel right and spent the early hours and the next day on the toilet. I most definitely won't ever be back

You won't get a fresher cooked meal,made to order and very competitively priced ,pensioners specials and a children's menu,try it you won't be dissapointed

Amazing chip shop in Hull, great taste

Grim food, not chip shop quality chips, dry and tasteless. Shabby place. But the staff are so lovely. Unfortunately won't be going back though as we didn't enjoy our meals.

Local legend did not disappoint got more than expected in all categories not used for a long time but on today,s experience will be visiting again soon, pensioner special brilliant value courteously served and who else provides coffee in a pot at this price point even the bread and butter is worthy of positive comment the taste of their mushy peas is unique and rekindled my taste bud memories first class.

Myself and husband always have a chat with the ladies who serve us. Food as lovely as always . Go to carvers at least once a week.

Absolutely brilliant the best chip shop in hull.. A museum of hull's culture with family photos on the walls and above all traditional fish and chips 5 star food.

First time in here, useally go to the back of market one,but been closed since covid. We had lovely fish and chips with mushy peas,bread and butter with tea and coffee. Fish and chips were lovely, will be going back. Nice staff too (coffee was lovely as I don't like ground coffee).

Absolutely shocking service. Simply went in for dinner. Member of staff talking to customers like animals, I then over heard staff talking to staff, I wouldn’t even call It talking, like absolute garbage. The food is sub par, wouldn’t travel for it. Shocking shocking shocking service. The specific person I believe I overheard his name was Bob or Rob, something like that. Don’t know who you think you are. Really need to work on customer service.

Called in mid afternoon. I do wish I hadn't bothered!! Staff disinterested. Chips were Dire! Luke warm- must have been under a lamp for ages ! Very greasy. I suspect old fat too? They were not good.

When I first came to Hull in the late 70s, The first takeaway food I had was Bob Carvers in the market place, comeing from West Midlands, I'd never tried a pattie, or seen diced up onions in vinegar, or mint sauce to accompany pattie chips, wow..Awesome. Today I went to Bob Carvers in town, and had the same. Fantastic! BoB and staff you are a credit to your Catering/ Food business! The chips were cooked to perfection! Scraps on top! Pattie

Having visited this place numerous times and never before been disappointed I can only give this review based on my most recent experience which was way below average, soggy burned oil drenched chips which can only be described as inedible! Will give it a miss in future and would suggest you do to.

Normally enjoy the food from old town but sat in at the other one. Fish tasted odd/off and was not nice at all. Chips also not cooked which is a shame.

Bob carver's has been in hull many years always good quality fish and chips it was the home of the hull pattie i remember the outside market were Bob's father and grand father had a fish shop under canvas with saw dust on the floor how things change they even had a fish shop on Withernsea market until they closed the market down but the only thing that hasn't changed is the quality of there fish and chips there is 2nd bob carver's in hull 1 in city centre and 1 next to trinity market if you come to hull you have got to try bob carver's

Lovely food, the fish was so fresh it fell apart whilst picking it up with a fork! The staff were friendly and chatty but made sure we had space for a good old gossip xx

I cannot stress how good this place is, have never used the restaurant but always treat myself to a takeaway at least once a month and never lets me down, chips are perfect and the value for money is great, a must try when in Hull

Ordered cod and chips plus Haddock and Chips for my friend, pot coffee me and tea for him Fish was decidedly watery and batter fairly tasteless but the actual fish was quite nice big flakes. Really bad was receiving two very very dirty spoons with the drinks, which while mistakes happen, it was so obvious it shouldn't have Didn't get anywhere near enough milk and tomato sauce wasn't available as standard and when supplied wasn't really enough for two meals. Restaurant was pretty clean but dismal. Minimal decoration other than of photos relating to the business. Service was brusk without much cheer but just about attentive enough. For near £20 for the two meals I would expect a lot better. Best fish and chips in Hull? Hate to see the worst if that's that case

Just before noon i strolled past this little fish n chip shop or so i thought.Looking for lunch and fish n chips near top of my list thought have another look.Went in and its a restaurant at the back and what a surprise i got.Had the pensioners special, Small Haddock, chips, PROPER mushy peas, Bread n butter,pot of tea. All done to perfection. only £6.75The lady serving me was so polite and helpful.It was that nice going out for a ride out in car from Scarborough for moreIts hard to find good old fashioned fish n chips but this is one of them places and worth the trip.It states its been going since 1888.Enjoy to all who go

Today my brother and I had lunch at Bob Carvers and the Pensioner's Special was just right. Not too much and not too little. Having said that we both had a breadcrumb pattie on the side and it, together with the fish and chips, were superb. Staff were friendly and cheerful. Highly recommended

Perfect did work it said on the can took the mrs and daughter with the grand baby of 2yrs didn't need out for the baby and they couldn't do enough to help will be back well done

Fish nice, but small, outstanding batter, chips a bit greasy, curry sauce the consistency of treacle. The staff are nice, service is good and it's clean but has seen better days. A very good cup of tea, and it isn't expensive.

Excellent fish and chips from the oldest chippie in Hull- originally opened 1888 ! Its a no frills kind if place but the fish and chips were freshly fried and were top quality- lovely and crisp. I was aurprosed to see mint sauce on the counter and fresh onions soaked in vinegar- both a local tradtion for the local Hull Pattie amd available free of charge. ! Delightful staff.

Me and the family normally go to the Trinity house Bob Carvers but since we was up that way decided to go to this one. AWFUL. The walls had food up them, staff where rude and it seemed like they just wanted us to leave. The fish was dry and smelled funny and the chips where hard. Since then I've learnt they're different businesses. Shame on you for dragging the Carver name.

Decent portions, decent prices. Is it the best in Yorkshire? It’s not even the best in Hull. But if your passing, give it a go and decide yourself.

Called in one afternoon by chance and had best fish & chips I've ever had in many years. It's extremely rare these days to find fresh fish cooked in light crispy batter which isn't greasy , real home cooked chips soft in the middle, crispy on the outside and nicey browned, proper mushy peas, accompanied with bread & butter and a decent pot of tea and it's a sure fire 100% winner . If ever you find yourself in Hull search this place out, the restaurant , The modern decor and the girls who work there make this place No.1 in my mind,

went in bob carvers for lunch with my wife we ordered the oap special it arrived very promptly nice and hot me and my wife both demolished our meals washed down with a nice cup of tea not a very large portion but it was more than adequate for a lunchtime meal

I had arrived in Hull about 2.30 and decided that i needed something a little more substantial than a sandwich as I had a very light breakfast that morning whilst travelling. I was going out for dinner and so didnt want a main meal- Bob Carvers delivered a very tasty and enjoyable solution. A small fish and chips take away for £2.99. Amazing value and just the right size. Fish was freshly cooked and batter was crisp. Chips were pre cooked, possibly only a few minutes before as they were nice and crispy too. They had a number of orders coming in from the restaurant and I was asked to wait a few minutes- not a problem. Very polite. Place was spotlessly clean. Top marks in category. I will return.

Love this place. Always our go to when in Hull and often one fo the only reasons to go to Hull. Quality food with great service. Staff always happy to help and food arrives in good time from time of order. Plenty of seating inside and nice dining area as well as take away to front.

Rubbish,restaurant was dark and cold and the fish was definitely not haddock, it was soggy and nothing like haddock it was more like bassa and the chips were soggy and greasy aswell
