First time I’ve been in since the new owners took over. More tables, fresh vibe and more items on the menu. Egg and mushroom bap was excellent, well seasoned, delicious bread and hearty size. Cinnamon buns always go down well 😋 Will definitely be back regularly.

Went there for the first time and didn't know what to expect. Found a lovely bakery with fresh pastries and bread and can even see them being made. We had sausage roll, sourdough sandwich, flare whites and a cinnamon bun. Everything was amazing and highly recommend. Prices were good and good seating. Will be back

Why pay more? Breakfast bacon butties and excellent coffee. Super location by the quay. Wonderful freshly baked bread and sourdough to go. Cheerful crew.🇬🇧🇳🇿

The bread is the best in the area and worth a wide detour to buy it. Lovely to sit on the edge of the quay on a spring morning enjoying the excellent coffee and a delicious croisant

The bread and pastries were absolutely delicious but the service at the till was remarkably rude and unfriendly. Despite our best efforts to be friendly and helpful, we were met with such a sour face when we placed our order. We were even slightly told off for placing such a large order! Not sure what we did wrong. Will go back because the bread is so good but please can you be nicer next time?

The boatyard bakery & cafe does what it says on the tin! The coffee is from Exe coffee based in Exeter and the bread, cakes and pasties are freshly baked each day on site. Forget imported Cornish pasties go for the real deal! I doubt that anyone produces a better cheese and onion pasty, full of flavoursome ingredients with minimal crimping . Enjoy sitting on the walkway around the Ship Canal Basin whilst watching youngsters learning various water sports or eat inside and watch the staff baking. Best value of all the coffee venues on the Quay.

Have been here too many times to mention so thought it's about time I wrote a review...the best bakery in Exeter by far! Their croissants are to die for. Good coffee too. Only downside is there's not much indoor seating so best to go on a dry day and sit outside and admire the views of the canal!

Staff were really lovely, very friendly cafe/bakery, arrived just before they closed but made us welcome and a lovely cup of tea, all reasonably priced. Would def recommend if in the area

Some of the best pastries in the U.K., personally approved by multiple french friends that I’ve brought here. Coffee is good and getting better.

Delicious bread, pasties and cakes! Some of the best you can find in Exeter. While the service has been a bit uneven in the past, as also noted by other reviewers, recently the staff have been extremely friendly and welcoming! I would highly recommend coming here to pick up a fresh loaf of bread, cardamom croissant and a nice coffee.

Nice open plan space… don’t feel welcome, service is lacking, no smiles, had to repeat my order several times:) I complemented the resident artist present in the cafe to which the waiter replied… with a detailed assessment of my outfit!… I found it most inappropriate…a bit creepy… perhaps customer service training? Not for me, sadly

Found this place quite by accident and really glad we did. We had pastries and coffee sat outside on a bench watching the world go by on a lovely sunny morning. The bread looked delicious too as did the other savoury items on offer. Friendly member of staff who served us and great prices. A hidden gem!

Venue very interesting and pleasant by the quay. Outdoor seating and lovely bread. Sadly, the coffee was quite ordinary and only a very limited range of pastries and snacks.

Stopped in for a morning coffee and a pastry. Service was good and efficient, coffee was great and the pastries were next level, still warm and oozing with flavour. Definitely saved in the favourites.

Myself and my flat mate stopped by for a post run coffee and pastry. The flat whites were excellent and cardamom buns delicious! The girl that served us was also super kind as we didn’t have masks and went out of her way to bring us coffees outside! We will be back! Thank you!

So much potential! Great location, lovely building, excellent combo of cafe and bakery, but when we arrived it looked like a bomb had gone off. Pretty much every unoccupied table was covered in dirty plates, yet the staff were all standing around with their arms crossed. Service left a little to be desired - asked for some water, was pointed in the direction of an empty jug and told they had no clean glasses anyway. Coffee was good though.

This sweet venue has freshly baked goodies and bread plus hot drinks and light lunches. Good vegan options too!! Lots of tables, child and dog friendly. Some free parking. Fun to see the bakers at work.

Lovely looking cafe with nice views, however, the food was terrible! Little on offer. I asked what sandwiches they offer as the menu stated ‘check specials board’. There wasn’t a special board. All there was to offer was bacon or cheese! I opted for ploughman’s and for £5 I was hoping for more than purely a slice of bread, chunk of cheddar and a small pot of chutney. Will not be returning.

At reasonable price. Definitely worth the detour to the picturesque shop and cafe in Exeter quay / harbour. Much better quality brad than the supermarkets. Value for money. Haven't tried the cafe.

Personal encantador y servicial.Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar.

Spotted this wonderful rustic café and bakery and it immediately had that feel good factor. Fab location on the quay with outside seating for those sunny days. Excellent food from the short menu, short being a good sign. Great pizza on a Friday. Watch them making the excellent bread. Good coffee. Art work and pottery on display for sale. Kids play area.

New place for us to try. Very disappointed with the food. Quiche and slaw extremely bland and dull. Sorry but it was terribly tasteless. Slaw had no taste seasoning. Cheese on toast on there own bread was nice but it was incredibly slow. It was nice however to sit and watch them make their own bread and pizzas.

Decepcionante. No volveré corriendo

Great place to stop for light breakfast and a good coffee after a walk on the key. Bread is delicious and keeps for much longer than the supermarket stuff.

This is a lovely cafe in an old warehouse next to the canal basin. You can sit outside and watch rowers, kayakers and swans away from traffic noise. Inside also lovely: bread and cakes baked on the premises and ingredients locally sourced as far as possible. Dogs and small children welcome and the staff always have time for a chat. Soup always delicious. Highly recommended.

Nice spot but couldn’t help but feel that 4.50 is a bit steep for average cheese on toast. Coffee was nice but with such a limited menu I don’t think I’ll be back in a hurry when there are so many good places for lunch close by.

The Boatyard Cafe and Bakery is situated on the quayside at Exeter Canal basin in an old warehouse. Here you can get yourself a coffee, tea or soft drink and a snack while you watch the bakers at work. There is a limited choice of cakes and snacks available as well as the freshly-baked bread. No frills here, just a laid back easy atmosphere. You could do a lot worse after your walk or bike ride alongside the canal. Or if you want to hire a canoe or a paddleboard, AS Watersports is just 2 doors away.

This is a nice little cafe, in a good location, with decent service and good value for the city. However, it has quite a limited menu, and the food isn't bad, but nothing special. To be fair, it is as good as almost all the other cafes I have tried in Exeter, and less crowded than most, which are consistently over-rated on TA, by people who have forgotten the meaning of average - the middle of the normal distribution curve. That's not to say its not decent, but no better or worse than the majority of others out there. In that context, my rating is perhaps a little mean, but consistent with how I assess everything on TA.

Visiting in England and of course, being a bread baker myself, I had to find a bakery that uses their own wild yeast from their own culture. Yes, it's a thing. Found the Boatyard Bakery on-line and had to go. What a gorgeous place, right on the water in a lovely community. Walking in immediately I get the scent of their bread and know I've made a great choice. We were a bit late but were still able to get what we liked. I ordered some quiche and the soup which was a vegetable barley, all made in house, outstanding. And, of course, a loaf of their beautiful sourdough. After chatting a bit with Katie behind the counter she brought out a sampling of the different breads. Great crunchy crust and soft, lovely crumb. Can't beat this. This is life itself! Cinnamon roll...excellent. This is the classic English experience; boats outside tethered to the dock bobbing in the water, beautiful architecture of the buildings, a real old world bakery. No downsides to this experience.

We chose the globe for our wedding breakfast and we were looked after amazingly. So we decided to come back to stay for a night. The hospitality was top notch, the staff were so friendly and welcoming, like walking into a family home. Grace and Freddie were so helpful, as was Dez (?), they genuinely made it their missions to make sure we were happy, comfortable and satisfied.. it has been the most comfortable and comforting, and fun night away from home. Thank you to all the staff, we have stayed in many places but honestly this has been an utter joy. Thank you to everyone who has made it happen. Can't wait to stay again!!

After a brilliant night with friends we went for kareoke to continue having fun. Unfortunately the bar man was so rude to me I had to leave when I asked if he could put a song on with his answer being it is my pub don’t tell me what to do. I went back to say to him you made me feel horrible when you spoke to me like that his answer was tough. He ensured my night ended on low I do not spend my money to be spoken to like that awful way for bar staff to speak to people obviously do not care about customers I will not return.
