First time here. Lovely location. Right the side of river. Staff were great. The food however is not good value. We had the tapas. The arancini were small balls with just rice inside. And just slightly coloured with which I presume to be the ragu ? No sign of a raging sauce. My brusheta had no hint of garlic or basil ? Just tomatoes and a bit of rocket. Again small portion. The serving of the food was strange aswell. I thought the idea of tapas is to have different foods in front of you at one time , they all canes at different times. The aubergine came 15 mins after the first dish was served. We had eaten the rest by then. Meat balls were ok but again small portion. Shame really as for me the dishes are way overpriced for what ( and when ) you get them. Could be better

We booked having seen numerous “dog friendly” reviews where infact this restaurant does not allow dogs inside. We were stopped on the stairs and offered seating outside on the river that was not very inviting or a room in what appeared to be under the stairs. Shame as we had heard good things. NOTE the last dog friendly review or otherwise was in 2021 so not sure if the situation had changed since. Obviously it is a restaurant’s prerogative to not accept dogs but it would be good to provide this information as we had travelled from Cornwall and were unable to find anywhere else of interest in the town.

My brother and I took mom to Upton for lunch as it would have been her DiamondWedding Anniversary( dad passed November) . We had lunch at this lovely friendly venue on the riverbank. Had the pasta and glass of wine for £10 offer . Lots of pasta dishes to choose from all sounded amazing. Staff were attentive and we really enjoyed our time there. House red wine smooth and complimented pasta wonderfully. We will definitely return and recommend! The cocktail menu is extensive, too.

The tapas was absolutely gorgeous and arrived looking amazing - couldn’t fault the food! The waiters and waitresses were all brilliant too and were a real credit to the restaurant - knowledgeable about the menu and just overall nice people! The only one issue is one member of staff was particularly solemn looking and un-emotive (older bloke, wearing a blue shirt) - he looked fed up to say the least! Other than that, it was brilliant and we would recommend to others to give it a try.

I have awarded 4 stars not because of food and service but because parking near to the restaurant is difficult , step flight of stairs leading upto the restaurant and doubtful wheelchair access. Restaurant has an excellent view over the river , is austere in design but nice tables and chairs with plenty of room . In nice weather enjoyable to sit out on the balcony. Bar service. Service good , cheerful, efficient and polite. Excellent selection of tapas which meant that the 4 of us were able to chose dishes to suit ourselves . I enjoyed the mushrooms and beef the best but the lamb koftas and salad were also liked by the others. Liked the way the tapas dishes were timed to arrive as you ate your way through the meal.

My partner's cousin and her husband came to visit us and to see the delights of the Malvern hills. They live in the USA, have travelled extensively and appreciate a variety of cuisines. She is also an exceptional cook. After our meal she commented several times on the very good flavours of each tapas dish, declaring it a "Meal to Remember" We had ordered tapas to suit both vegetarian and non vegetarian palates, consisting of two types of salad, meat and vegetable dishes from the a la carte menu. Well done and thank you to Kyle Hassall, proprietor and Paulo Mathias, chef

I have got to be honest, when we first arrived as I had no idea where this place was, it was a nightmare to park and when I walked in (we were downstairs) I thought Oh no what have i done (booking was for my husbands birthday). How wrong I was, the food was absolutely amazing. We all love tapas and it isn’t easy to get around Worcestershire so this place is now on our regular list. I have never tasted Tapas like it, it was superb. Also, the 2 girls serving so were so lovely and attentive. The food comes out as it’s cooked so it is piping hot and extremely fresh. Can not get across how amazing the food was, you just need to go and try it for yourself. Booked again for August for my birthday.

Came in with a party of 7 (4 adults, 3 young adults) not knowing it was a Tapas only restaurant and ordered drinks. The staff moved tables to accommodate us and explained in detail what Tapas was and how Tapas was ordered. Unfortunately this was not what we were after so after finishing our drinks we left. The staff however were 1st rate, even suggesting their sister restaurant up the road which was more suitable to us. The restaurant itself was lovely. Very clean, airy and well looked after. Cannot recommend the food as we didn’t have any, but the beer (Night Jar) was excellent and the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, so can happily recommend on that front.

My wife and I have three children and get out to dinner about three times per year. So when we go out a good experience is so important for us. The food at the Boathouse is really good. Perfectly cooked dishes using lovely ingredients and just the right amount of food per racion. Other features that really made our night were: We had a really excellent waitress, she was attentive but not pushy and we felt like she really cared about her job. She knew about the food too. Boathouse have spread out their tables upstairs so that you aren’t packed in and can have an intimate dining experience, not feeling squeezed up against other couples. So it almost feels like private dining. We have eaten Tapas all over the country and have only eaten better food once in a very expensive place in Fulham, London. Go to Boathouse, you won’t regret it. We will be back to the more informal downstairs cafe with our children very soon.

The website says ‘ The Boathouse boasts the best view in town with outside seating and balcony areas overlooking the River Severn‘ which is true. But on a Sunday at 3pm we were asked to sit downstairs with no view . We asked why and they said they shut that area at that time . They relented and let us go upstairs but they would be clearing around us . We never noticed that as there were diners there already. Crazy rule, as we were leaving they were turning another couple away for same reason , downstairs was empty. Surely what your paying customer wants is important.Food was ok had cheese platter which counted as 2 tapas, cheddar very mild/ bland other ok. Beef pomegranate tasty , chicken vodka sauce ok. Very small portion of fish. Very expensive for what it was. Sweets ok 3 teeny tiny squares of cheesecake. The view is what makes this place, IF you are allowed to sit upstairs. If you want this view make sure when booking they will allow. There was plenty of room up there , most odd to not use the asset.

Nestled cosily by, and overlooking the magnificent Severn, this tapas restaurant & bar is a veritable oasis of culinary choice. If you're vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, carnivorous or a combo of all, your needs will be satisfied and exceeded. All this is complemented by an adequate, but reasonably priced wine list, beers, lagers and an extremely cheeky and attractive listing of cocktails, again reasonably priced. We plumped for a selection of breads with 3 delicious dips and patatas bravas to kick off and these were quickly pursued by very generous portions of manchego and serrano ham drizzled with superb honey; slow cooked lamb; chicken and chorizo; warm goats cheese with balsamic. All were very, very good to excellent. Drinks were initially cocktails, an espresso martini and a "bramble" concoction (both splendid) and closely followed by a glass apiece of Spanish house red and house white, both more than acceptable. The three visible, youngish staff were excellent in service, explanations, conviviality and friendliness. Despite the place becoming quite busy, they never appeared anything other than in complete control and were extremely attentive and efficient throughout. All in all, it is only a matter of time (like maybe a week or so!) before we return to sample a completely fresh array of tapas dishes, new cocktails and fresh wines and have another truly magnificent evening out. I am told that they also have guest artists performing on a weekly basis, so who knows what our next visit will bring?

I have to start by saying how lovely the food was; we had a Mediterranean platter and patatas bravas to share between 2 of us. Strangely though we were not given plates to eat off even though the platter came with bread. Which leads me to my next niggle - there was not enough bread in relation to the amount of meats, cheese and dips provided. My biggest gripe was the customer service however. We arrived at approx 11:50 on a Sunday and given the website stated that brunch was served on a Sunday I was not hugely surprised when the waitress told me to pick off the breakfast menu even though it stated it was only served until 11:30. When I went to the bar to order was then told that they were no longer serving breakfast as they finished serving it at 11:30 as stated on the menu. I was made to feel slightly stupid even though I explained that the waitress had advised me to pick off that menu. I think I was probably unlucky but it left a slightly sour taste which was a shame when the food was so good.

No, not mosquito bites that I got sitting on the balcony by the Severn, but tasty tapas style dishes that I enjoyed on an overnight stay in Upton. The restaurant came highly recommended by my B&B; host and - if you’re lucky with the weather - my own recommendation is to get a balcony table for a view of river folk messing about on boats and the Malverns in the distance. After reading lots of positive reviews we decided to eat at the Boathouse on arrival we were seated & explained the menu we opted for 4/5 tapas dishes. Olives to start with Home -made Humous and tzatsiki dips served with warm pitta bread. This was nice however the amount of olives served was a bit stingy for £3.90 the other tapas was the Warm Goats cheese stuffed with sundried tomatoes, paprika and flaked almonds this was ok never had any almonds & the bread was warm in places & cold in other parts!!we then had the Tempura prawns with mango chutney these were just like the ones from Iceland & the mango chutney did not work at all ,four prawns for £6.95 not that impressed with that dish very bland really. then the Chicken Flambe in vodka with a creamy sauce and sweet peppers this arrived chicken was ripped into pieces was no flambe going on ,sauce was fine creamy etc but again lacking really. then we had the Spicy Chorizo and pepper casserole, two small bits of pepper lots of chorizo which was cooked to death very overcooked dry & not pleasant to taste > we did say we did not like this dish but it fell on deaf ears was still on the bill!!! even though we did not eat it!

The selection of Tapas was good - and the owner/manager was helpful in advising how many we should choose. We had manchego cheese with Serrano ham, chorizo and peppers on wine sauce, aubergine and tomato, prawns in garlic, and beautifully tender calamari. I wanted a meeting point somewhere in the Upton upon Severn area, for a business chat at coffee time. The Boathouse came up in the recommendations, and we were delighted with the experience. Friendly staff, good range of coffees, teas, and fresh cakes and other things to eat and drink. I cannot comment on the main menu, but as a coffee stop it was very good, and reasonably priced.

My girlfriend came up the other night to escape Cheltenham during race week. Very easy drive. We had a Groupon for some tapas and wine. We added a couple of extra dishes per the waitress's recommendation, and ended up ordering even more once we tasted them. The food here was absolutely incredible. We had at least 6 different dishes and every one was absolutely delicious. We will be back!

Popped in for coffee and cake. Lovely little place, good coffee, cake not so much. Other families were enjoying the very good tapas menu.

We ate here at lunchtime recently and were greeted by very friendly staff. We were given a very informative run through on the menu with regards to our tapas selection.

We ate at The Boathouse with our children whilst staying in Upton recently. The food was very good and there was plenty on the menu for the children. The service was very friendly and the food came out quickly which was perfect for us as we were out with the children and didn't want to keep them up too late. I suppose if we'd wanted to linger over our food it might have been a bit too quick, but in that case I'd just follow true Spanish style tapas and only order a couple of things at a time to go with drinks, before ordering more when I was ready.

Visited the boathouse in Upton back in December with the family for what I thought was gonna be a nice Christmasy meal, but was sadly disappointed by the bad service and terrible food. There was something wrong with my food and when I tried to ask the waiter was blatantly ignored.

About 6 months after our first visit (at lunchtime) for - this time - a try of the evening experience. Pleased to say that all the hot tapas dishes were great, the stand-outs being the whitebait (alas only a daily special) and the chicken flambé (a regular fixture). Initial disappointment at the lack of (advertised) creme brûlée was compensated by the admittedly delicious salted caramel roule that took its place. The balcony dining area looks inviting for a future date, although at about -4C overnight it was on this occasion sensibly closed.

This is the second time in just over a month that I have visited. The first was for a works evening meal with 10 people midweek and the second was a large family lunch on sunday with 13 people. On both occasions the food for everyone was excellent and the atmosphere very, very pleasant. The food available for all tastes and also including children was brilliant. Considering the size of the parties on both occasions the wait for food was fine and it ensured that everyone's meals came out at the same time and all were still nice and warm. The selection of wines and beers is also very good. I cannot praise the team highly enough for their welcoming and professional approach and we will all definitely be making it a regular spot. Very highly recommended.

This was our second visit to The Boathouse. The first was during our stay in Upton during our glorious Summer and we sat on the terrace and enjoyed our food and the view and discovered a new love of gin ... especially Hoxtons Coconut & grapefruit ... recommended by our knowledgeable waitress.

Apparently under new management this restaurant has great views across the river and serves some excellent food. The portions were excellent and it was cooked to perfection. I can highly recommend the Boathouse.

My wife telephoned The Boathouse asking what their meal times were, to which the young lady asked her what time were we looking for ( my wife said about 5.00)as they start food at 6.00. After my wife's request she had a word with the chef and he said he will open the food early for us. We arrived early and had a lovely reception by Mary and she gave us the menu to peruse while awaiting the chef to return.

Pretty setting on the Marina. Didn't eat here but enjoyed and stroll around looking and the boats and watching the swans being ringed. Quite a skill

Myself and a friend visited The Bridge for the Sunday Carvery. It was excellent and superb value for money! We had the carvery and a pudding which was also excellent.

Staff are extremely friendly and always up for a great laugh. Portion sizes are very large, great value for money. Wide range of drinks to suit either a quiet night out or even a messy one. Amazing atmosphere all around be it in the restaurant or the bar. I discovered this little gem on accident, it was a very happy accident and I will be returning without a doubt. Thanks Garry and team

When we got there, we saw a sign that said 'overflow car park'. Absolutely accurate, the river had overflowed into the car park, which was now a pond. Service was a little slow to start with but then improved. Food was excellent, so was the company and the atmosphere. Defo going back some time.

Four of us had a light lunch here yesterday. We had hoped to sit outside by the lake but it was cold so we were in the bistro which is lovely. We all ordered sandwiches which were delicious and presented beautifully with a small selection of dressed salad leaves . We all had banana sponge pudding with toffee sauce and ice cream - a bit like sticky toffee pudding but even better. The staff were immaculately turned out, and genuinely welcoming and helpful. This is such a lovely place and we will definitely be back before long.
