Revisited after glorious Christmas dining experience. Once again, the service, food and atmosphere were quite superb. Took my friend, a celebrity chef to sample their culinary delights. Both of us very happy with the halibut in a superb sauce. Great value for money. Impeccable service. A dining delight. Once again, many thanks from both of us. Looking forward to my next visit in October.

We had a lovely meal, meeting up with family, the starters were scallops & black pudding on minted pea puree. Homemade fish cake, calamari & soup all plates were cleaned! The rump of lamb with dauphinois potatoes was lovely, with a rich gravy & fresh seasonal veg, cooked to perfection! Others had the special fillet, scampi & belly pork. Puddings were lemon tart, chocolate fudge cake & strawberry & Prosecco cheesecake followed by coffees & teas. Well worth a visit. The a la cart menu was much better than the menu on the website. The service was good & staff friendly even though it was a busy Friday night

We have been here at least 6 times in the last year or two and each time it has been excellent, so the negative reviews below are baffling to me. The food is lovely, there are several good beers and wines all at competitive prices. The meats and vegetables are will cooked, and the service is excellent. The whole place has a quality vibe to it. Highly recommended.

We managed to get a late table on Saturday. However, after arriving we were shown to our table, we asked what non alcoholic spirits were available and was informed that they didn't do any (strange), needless to say I had to have a soft drink. We asked another member of staff and she informed us that they did offer non alcoholic spirits, it was therefore clear that some of the junior staff were not aware of what the Bluebell offers. We ordered our meal, the starters arrived, the scallops were an insult to the price, there were four scallops on the plate, three were very small, i.e. the size of a twenty pence piece, one having been cut in half to make up the numbers, the fourth scallop was the size you would expect especially considering the price (may I suggest having three scallops that would present better than what was offered). The other starter which was prawn/salmon was an exceptionally large portion, fine for some but a little to large for a starter. We ordered a bottle of white wine and had to ask for a cooler as the wine was very warm. When the main courses came, I asked for my steak to be cooked "bleu" at best it was medium (how a chef doesn't know how to cook a bleu steak is somewhat bizarre). However, the lamb that we ordered was so rare I don't think it actually had been cooked, it was very fatty and chewy, this being a result of being under cooked. For desert, I ordered white mint chocolate ice cream, this was awful as it was very grainy which leads me to believe it may have started to defrost and then re frozen. Needless to say I didn't eat it! From being seated to paying the bill, we were no longer than 45 minutes (we didn't even have time to drink the wine and had to take half the bottle back home with us!) We were given no time between courses to enjoy our evening out. The service overall was very poor, as at the end when we were paying the bill, we were asked very bluntly "have we done"! Also at this point it was drawn to their attention how disappointed we were at the quality of the meal, the restaurant wasn't busy, therefore the food should have been coming from the pass at a much higher standard as we have received in the past. Needless to say we were extremely disappointed and have agreed that we will not be returning. It is clear from the outside that the Bluebell is in need of some investment and perhaps maybe some more experienced staff front of house and in the kitchen. The meal cost £125.75 (for two people), given the fact that I didn't eat the lamb or the desert, this was a rather expensive meal in 45 minutes. Word of caution, if you park in the disabled section at the front of the Bluebell, the rendering on the wall is falling away and therefore is a potential danger to patrons and their vehicle.

If you like bland unseasoned and over priced food together with average service you are in for a treat! I started by ordering a pint of Bass ale it was lifeless with no head. The lasagne was bland and overpriced in my opinion! The chips were slightly anaemic but ok, and the salad garnish was spot on. The risotto was bland and completely over priced. The owner ventured from the kitchen and made small talk.Once he asked about the food and we told him he soon disappeared! Again when the bill was offered we highlighted the issues! They brought the bill with some after dinner mints that had turned due to the heat! They said they were considering putting them in the fridge. I said they should consider putting them in the bin! Definitely won’t be eating there again. Avoid! Lots of better places at a more reasonable cost! Thanks but no thanks!

We called in last night for the Eat out to Help out deal. The first time we had visited the Bluebell, and certainly won't be the last, the booking by phone with the gentleman I spoke too, was really well handled, he explained everything regarding the current situation etc, and was very friendly.also when we arrived, the ladies behind the bar and in the restaurant were also very friendly, informative and helpful. The meal was excellent, we had Scampi as well as Thai fish cakes. The restaurant itself observed social distancing with plenty of room, which was very clean and well laid out, but above all the girls were very friendly and helpful. I would strongly recommend a visit.

I was looking for a pub to watch the football and grab some lunch with my brother and was pretty surprised to find the bluebell when looking through a list of pubs which showed bt sports. I booked us a table and asked for a good view of the tv screen and it was spot on! This is definitely not your typical football-showing pub, but it was just right for what i wanted. We got a perfect table in the bar area, in front of the screen, ordered a baguette each, some chips and a dessert each and enjoyed the match. The pub itself has a bar area and a more formal dining area. The bar menu is on a chalkboard, on the wall. It has a decent selection of meals, but i would have liked a separate bar menu to save going up to the small bar area and trying to remember everything, whilst not getting in everybody's way. Some more information about the baguette fillings and what the meals came with would have been better too. There was a definite lack of clarity there. Offering a choice of brown bread as well as just white would also be beneficial. We ordered a smoked salmon baguette and a prawn baguette. Both were nice and had a good helping of filling. My brother did say the smoked salmon would have been nicer without the excessive amount of butter and maybe adding some cream cheese or cucumber. They were decent value for £5.50, though. The desserts were all £5.95. Again, there was a decent selection, but the portion size was definitely lacking. My chocolate orange truffle torte was very nice but very much on the small side. Overall, this was much better than my last visit here, which wasn't going to be difficult given the one star review i left previously. I would definitely come here again to watch the football and have lunch, but probably wouldn't visit for a main meal given the prices and portion size.

Having been to the Bluebell on several occasions for Sunday lunch I was looking forward to my meal having had great service and tasty food previously. Unfortunately on this occasion we were sat by the door and people coming in and out of the restaurant kept bumping into my chair, including the manager who was carrying chairs into the room. We ordered the roast beef and yorkshire pudding. The beef was tough and stringy and in places the cutlery supplied could not cut through it, the veg arrived sat in a pool of water and the broccoli was mushy. The gravy was thin and tasteless. Not a good experience at a pub I have always enjoyed going to.

A Derbyshire venue that has operated under a number of different owners over the years, but still manages to maintain its standards, albeit with differing emphasis reflecting the views of the then owner, and without too much 'change' - and all the better for that! - to what is a very lovely country pub.The menu has, however, been revamped, and offers an interesting selection of both traditional and slightly different food options, all at an extremely competitive price, whether eating 'in the bar' or with table cloths, and slightly upmarket, in the restaurant.Service is first class, attentive but unobtrusive, food well cooked and beautifully presented with real attention to detail. Certainly well worth a visit and, probably, a revisit!.

We opted to eat in the restaurant which was beautifully set out with traditional white cloths and napkins. We were spoilt for choice and we were able to choose from both the restaurant and bar menu. Everything we had was first class, perfectly cooked and flavoursome. I can honestly say the lamb was the best I’ve ever had. Visited here today. This might seem petty but my wife took a seat at a free table, amongst lots with reserved signs on and I went to order drinks and food. My wife was then asked by the bar lady to leave the table to make way for other customers who had just got their drinks. This seems to go against pub etiquette in our opinion, but she offered us another table with high stools instead which we accepted as we were hungry. However she then proceeded to serve another customer who had queued after me whilst I was politely waiting at the bar. He apologised to be fair but all in all we weren’t made to feel particularly welcome and so left. Bar staff may need a bit of pub etiquette “coaching”.

This is a great pub. I have visited hundreds of times over the last 3 decades and although some owners in that time were not so good, the current owner has an extremely good chef and the food is really very good. The pub itself is split into a bar area and a more formal restaurant area. The bar area for me has absolutely amazing character and feel and food can be eaten in this bar area as well as the restaurant. Outside there are no main roads, just a country lane, silence and fields which makes for a great way to enjoy a pint. The owner runs a tight ship and so the service is efficient and friendly. I don’t know what else to say except that I highly recommend a visit to this pub and I would imagine people are rarely disappointed with the experience. I really can’t fault it that much and so I have to give it 5*.

We were given a container with condiments in when the roast beef roll came I opened a horseradish condiment and put it on my roll - the condiment looked very pale and gloopy on a closer inspection I realised it was out of date by 14 months. When I complained the young girl brought me a fresh pot of horseradish sauce from the restaurant - no mention of exchanging my roll. A large number of condiments were all out of date, there was no apology and they did not take them away, so beware.

Visited on a busy Friday lunchtime, and sat on one of the tables next to the bar.Staff were very well organised and catered well for the amount of people eating. We placed our orders and about 20 minutes later our meals were served, the food was superbly cooked, well presented and delicious. During our visit there were a constant stream of people arriving and ordering food, the staff coped well and were very professional with the volume of people. I thoroughly recommend dining there but please note at the weekends you may have to reserve a table as its very popular.

I ran a fell race and ended up here. The beer ( Timothy Taylor ) was very good and went down well. The food was good value and the portions were big but the prices were not. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Very good. I will return.

We ordered 2 lasagne meals and a gammon with egg and chips. Waited only 20 minutes, out came 3 well presented meals. Absolutely delicious. Chips were homemade, don't get homemade chips many places these days. Then followed 3 yummy desserts again well presented. Staff were lovely and nothing too much trouble. 5 stars *****

Having driven past there on a few occasions we decided to drop in for some lunch, the carpark was 3/4 full and as we walked around the side of the building we could see a dining area full of people eating. There were lots of people sitting in th garden area at the front of the pub, we entered and the barmaid was talking to some local men, she greeted us and we noticed some empty tables to the left hand side of the bar so chose to sit there. The barmaid was very friendly and told us there were two menu's plus a blackboard, we ordered some drinks and chose fish and chips and a tomato and goats cheese tart, which came with chips and fresh salad, both meals were delicious. Despite the fact the place was so busy, the staff were well organised and food came out after about 15 minutes. While we were sat there more people were arriving ordering food, I asked the barmaid as we were paying if there were normally this busy and she told me yes, weekends it is advised to book a table to avoid disappointment. i thouroughly recommend the food and dogs are allowed into some seating areas, there is also a lovely walk 5 minutes up the road so why not combine the two?

We called in at the Bluebell at lunchtime for a drink whilst out walking and saw what people were being served - typical pub food lunch. Thought "That looks good, will come back later for dinner" which we did. Completely different menu - more up-market, fine dining. Not as expected but thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely recommended.

I visited for my birthday with my Parents and it was definitely a meal fit for a celebration! The pub is attractive from the outside (we especially liked the bar and 'Bar Maid' in the garden!!) and equally so inside. We went into the traditional bar area and then into the restaurant part to eat. It feels warm and welcoming, stylish and traditional - in a chic way and with modern twists. I especially liked the pictures on the walls and fresh, colourful flowers on the tables . We were immediately welcomed by a lovely Waitress, who was assisted by an equally helpful Waiter. They were friendly and efficient but never rushed us. We were shown the Specials Board, which had an extensive range of meals at extremely good prices. My Parents had gammon and fish cakes from that and I had the duck from the menu. All of the food was just fantastic! The duck was melt in your mouth good and the portions plentiful. The food was clearly freshly prepared. The desserts looked so tempting but we were just too full so enjoyed a coffee instead. A lovely setting, fabulous food, very reasonable prices, great staff. We'll definitely be back!

We visited this pub twice during our holiday - once for a Sunday lunch and once to finish our holiday and both times we thought that our meals were delicious. The Sunday lunch is exceptional value for one, two or three courses and the staff keen to please. Our second meal was a Friday lunchtime. We again found our food to be delicious and well presented. My Mum was looking forward to trying the dessert that I had enjoyed on the Sunday but it wasn't on the menu. When she told our waitress she arranged for Mum to have it even though it wasn't listed and it made our visit even more enjoyable. It will probably be a year or to before we come back but we will certainly be paying this pub another visit.

From start to finish , this was just excellent. We were a party of 16 for a birthday celebration, we were greeted with smiles as we entered, offered a drink at the bar, then sat at a long table. The landlord took our order with his usual presence and charisma! The starters were served promptly, almost all 16 all together within a couple of minutes (big plus point), and generous portions. Everyone said how nice the meals were.Ditto the main courses, all were served well and promptly, all together, all very tasty. The staff are great, really fun and personable (see my other review this weekend). Again, Belper sized portions served (v generous)!Final course was really tasty too. Everyone left feeling they'd had a great meal. Landlord was there personally to wish us farewell. So this earns one of my rare 5 star reviews. Thanks Mr T - very good indeed...

Went here for the first time with friends for a sunday meal. To start with we were greeted by a sour faced man who instead of saying hello, said 'are you the six who booked' every conversation we had with him it seemed as if we had done something to annoy him. It all seemed rather rushed! The food, £11.95 for one course, £13.95 for another which I wouldn't mind paying if the food was decent! Lumpy cold smash is not what I expect for the price! No childs menu was offered. To be honest this place is up there as somewhere I will avoid like the plague! What annoys me is bad service and attitude, if you don't like people, don't run a pub that requires you to encounter them!

So pleased we tried the Bluebell Inn after reading much improved reviews. Delicious Sunday lunch, very generous portions and excellent service/ambience. The only minor quibble was that the Yorkshire puddings weren't homemade. Otherwise perfect and the Creme Brulee was truly outstanding. We shall return.

This was our first visit although we had heard good things in regard to the food. We booked a table for 8 and had a lovely family meal. The service was friendly and relaxed. The food was enjoyable although a little restricted for the vegetarians amongst us.black pudding sausages went down well.We shall look at having an evening meal here at some time!

We had lunch at this pub recently and the food and service was just excellent. We will definitely be going back there and can highly recommend this place. It is in a nice country setting and not far from the town of Belper Mill which is a heritage site. Also nice for families to visit the nearby Belper River Gardens.

Always travelled from Chesterfield for our chippie suppers from here, will not be doing this again. Food for 4 ordered, fish batter was like concrete, fish, chips and fish cake tasted very heavily of grease. Total waste as we threw it away, others in there were also complaining.

Surprise 70th birthday party held in the back of the venue. The party room was lovely anx spacious with patio access outside. I didn't even know it existed as you can't see from the front of the pub. Excellent buffet and staff very attentive. Xx
