It was my second time there. Absolutely love it. Great place to spend time with friends and forget that you're in Birmingham for a while. Nice music, great food kind staff.

Nice manager, very attentive to you. Food was delicious (Ethiopian cuisine is my favourite) - the portion was really good as was the price. I tried Ethiopian coffee for the first time today (ceremony), the price was actually very good and it was a lovely experience for the family.

You have successfully captured the ambiance of the establishment; however, subsequent experiences were less than satisfactory. The premises were adequately cleaned, including the bathroom. The culinary offering, while deemed passable for its price point and location, fell short of embodying true Ethiopian cuisine. The fusion was characterized as suboptimal at best and lacked authenticity. It is suggested that measures be taken to refrain from misrepresenting the traditional flavors and techniques of Ethiopian cuisine. While elements of authenticity were observed, the overall execution suggested that corners were being cut in the preparation of the dishes.

Authentic food with brilliant atmosphere and culture

The food here was delicious! I went with my dad and we had the vegan meal for two. It was beautiful and tasted delicious and a very generous portion. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was very nice and authentic. I will definitely come back soon! Great value and delicious food.

We came here over Christmas to try something different and we got what we wanted. Very authentic Ethiopian/Eritrean food in an authentic atmosphere. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. Thoroughly recommended. Especially to anyone who has not tried this cuisine before.

Our first time trying Ethiopian food. We ordered the platter and the tej, of course! It was such a lovely experience getting a taste of many items at once. Great value for money also.

For me, the outdated decor is what gives this place, its charm. The food and service were nigh on perfect. I highly recommend the vegan platter, despite me not being vegan. You must also try the traditional coffee. 10/10 all round!!!

Do not, I repeat, do not let the exterior of this place deter you from dining here. Amazing food, very reasonably priced and great staff. Visited here with my wife for afternoon lunch. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We're Londoners and wish this place was closer to home. Definitely recommend

Having been born and brought up in Ethiopia, this is my go-to place for authentic cuisine, along with family members and friends. The food is excellent, the owners greet us with typical Ethiopian courtesy and warmth. If you're looking for an unforgettable experience, you need to visit. It also caters for gluten intolerance and vegetarians. Highly recommended.

Delicious food, great restaurant and good service. I had one of the best injera meal here. My cousin got the rice with spinach chicken, which was also well prepared and delicious. Try the honey wine too, so good. Overall great experience.

Great customer service and lovely ambience, the food is 10/10 in terms of presentation, value and taste, and if you like a drink I recommend trying their 'Tej' Ethiopian wine. Absolutely divine.

An excellent place to have Ethiopian dishes. I tried their vegan dishes and my friend tried their meat based dishe. Our reactions to both foods was expressed through our taste buds. Awesome. I invite everyone to take the fun to your taste buds.

I'm sorry but I forgot the name of the dish we had, it was number 49 on the menu. Every 'curry' was different and I enjoyed every bite. I can't wait to come back and try the vegetarian version. Recommended!

This is a truly wonderful Ethiopian restaurant with fabulous food, amazing service and traditional music and decorations. I highly recommend it!

On the periphery of the jewellery district, where life is a lot more rough and ready you’ll find the source of the blue Nile. A gem of a local restaurant serving deep flavoured Ethiopian dishes on a bed of tangy and springy injera. The place looks like it was decorated when the Derg were still in power, but all the better for it, felt authentic. As a solo traveller I ate a veggie and meat mix of many flavours watered with a non menu bottle of cold craft Ethiopian beer.

I've been going to blue nile for the past 2 years, ordering the same things and it fails to disappoint. The whole restaurant is a beautiful experience, a beautiful family run business.

Excellent food for a good price. The server was so nice and helped me pick out a dish - they really made eating here accessible and enjoying to someone who’s not familiar with Ethiopian food. I ate all the food too fast so I don’t have a photo 😅 but a single portion of food could easily be shared with one person and perhaps even three people with a small appetite.

Wow! What an incredible variety of textures and flavours in this amazing restaurant. We enjoyed a variety of dishes for three people. A huge plate of food which we eat with the Ethiopian bread and our hands. Lovely atmosphere and excellent friendly service. Well Worth a visit.

I stumbled across this restaurant and I dined on my own. What wonderful hospitality! The food was fabulous. I had a vegetarian mixed platter and loved every single thing on my plate. The young man who looked after me then bought out the traditional Ethiopian flat bread for me to try, and some extra lentils to eat with it. it was divine. It was buzzing in the restaurant but yet had a really relaxed 'unpretentious' atmosphere.I love these sorts of places, you can eat, enjoy the food and just be!..

Esta fue nuestra primera vez probando comida etíope y no me decepcionó. Pedimos una fuente para 2 que tenía 10 porciones diferentes en la parte superior de un pan estilo panqueque. Cada plato estaba delicioso y la comida era muy abundante. Nuestro camarero fue increíble ya que nos atendió durante toda nuestra comida y nos dio consejos sobre la comida y cómo comerla. ¡Estamos ansiosos por volver y probar algo más de comida del menú! !

If you like Ethiopian food then you’ll love this place. Fantastic food, so many amazing flavours, and a lovely environment in which to eat. I‘ve been visiting Blue Nile for years and have never get bored. Really friendly and helpful staff; if you don’t know what to order, my suggestion is to take their advice and get a sharing plate of their favourite dishes. There are tonnes of options for veggies and vegans (as I am - just request they leave out the butter in some dishes). They also serve a delicious home-brewed honey alcohol called Tej. Some of the ‘terrible’ reviews on here are clearly written by people who don’t like the cuisine/know the culture... e.g. someone described the ‘pancakes’ as ‘vinegary’. These pancakes are called injera and they are fermented, hence the slightly sour taste. That’s normal and many (like me) find it delicious. And yes, they don’t routinely offer cutlery as it’s customary to eat with your hands - what’s the big deal? Just enjoy it!

We have never had Ethiopian food before so a first - comfortable surroundings and quickly served - the tastes in the special 10 dish were fantastic and completely different to food i had tried before. The wifey wasnt too keen on the pancakes but was offered rice as a replacement (I loved them). Our host explained the dishes and spend time with us and even when asking to order one extra portion of the food to take home gave it to us for free :)I'll be back soon

The staff are very pretty laid back (a little too much I would say) and are not very attentive. We had ask for additional cutlery and glasses and water etc for our party...they should be on top of this as it was not busy at all.Food was not bad, not the best Eritrean I've had. Some room for improvement here.

Me and my partner have been coming here for years even before it started to become quite well known. First off the food is fantastic we always have the Blue Nile special which is a platter of different stews vegetables & lentils it’s perfect to share and great value especially if your new to Ethiopian food. The gent in there is such a credit to the business we don’t even have to order he knows what we order as soon as we walk in. He is literally one of the nicest waiters in any restaurant I’ve ever been too and again is a credit to the business. If you want something different give it a go you won’t regret.

I grew up eating Ethiopian food but this is the best restaurant by far. The meat and veggies are fresh. The injera is also very delicious.

En primer lugar, comenzaré diciéndole que soy un crítico de alimentos y que tengo mi propio libro de cocina, así que sé lo que es una buena comida. Este restaurante es el peor restaurante en el que he comido. Fui con mi familia de 4 el 27 de agosto a cenar y definitivamente nunca volveremos. El restaurante está muy sucio, el personal era grosero y lo peor de todo la comida era asquerosa! Recibí comida que no estaba fresca, probablemente estaba congelada y no se recalentó correctamente porque hacía frío en el centro. Nunca me sentí mal por comer en un restaurante, pero después de comer allí me sentí realmente enfermo durante horas. Básicamente comimos un par de bocados asquerosos y nos fuimos de inmediato para ir a un restaurante diferente. Es muy caro para lo que es (pagué más de 40) Cuando estaba pagando podía ver la cocina y vi que estaba muy sucia. Cuando me quejé con el propietario, le dije que en realidad me sentía mal después de comer algunos bocados de la comida, me dijo que me reembolsaría pero al día siguiente, en lugar de reembolsarme, me gritó por teléfono.

Nos reservamos como familia para probar una sala de escape cercana y nos presentamos aquí para un almuerzo tardío / té temprano. Al ser un momento extraño del día, el lugar estaba desierto, pero nos recibieron con una cálida bienvenida y nos llevaron a nuestra mesa.

Listen people, let's cut it short. If you're looking for a traditional well cooked, home-like food. This is definetly the place for you. Soft music, good pictures and lovely lovely waitors.

Never tried Ethiopian food before this and was not entirely sure once I saw the menu, but following some advice the food arrived and was tasty. Give it a try.

First time I have tried Ethiopian food and I wasn't disappointed. Our son who had been before took us on Saturday afternoon, I felt at home as soon as we walked through the door. The place is open and has a very relaxed feel, quite music plays in the back ground and the walls are covered with some very interesting pictures etc.

Came here for a meal with the family. Excellent quality food. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys Ethiopian food!

I will start With the fact the restaurant has grown 5 Times from the previous location. Much larger, spaced out with coffee drinkers space and a bar. The food is exceptional. Tasty. The Service is equally so.

We came to the restaurant last night with a travel group I am part of. The food was lovely and exciting to try a new cuisine. As we had a sharing platter that was chosen for us I didn't get to see the full menu but the food on the sharing platter was delicious so I am hoping to go back and try some food off the menu. 1st time eating Ethiopian food, I am really impressed. Still sitting here and just grinning from ear to ear at how much I enjoyed the food. The staff was very intuitive to know my taste buds were not yet accustomed to the "Injera" and offered us free rice and more sauces to try in addition to our already ordered meal.

Have had Ethiopian food before. Today’s experience of the food I ordered is described as poor. The meat and lentils were not warm. It was very blend. The staff were very polite and warm. The venue is good and decoration is unique. I will visit again to see if it was just one off.

Sin embargo, el sábado por la noche experimentamos un servicio pobre y la comida no estaba a la altura de su nivel normal. El restaurante estaba casi lleno y solo había un camarero que servía todas las mesas y él literalmente corría por el restaurante, tratando de dar lo mejor de sí en una situación difícil.

I thought the staff were all excellent. Lovely people, very prompt service, (some) good recommendations. But I don't think the food matches up to expectations. Some of the curries were great. Perhaps fermented bread just isn't my thing.

Blue Nile has become my go to restaurant for good quality food at the best, BEST prices. Traditional Ehiopian cuisine served in a relaxed, homely restaurant. The tilapia is now my favourite dish - ever! I don't know what kind of magic it is seasoned with, but it is fried, not greasy,crispy yet juicy. The food is so simple but so tasty. I look forward to seeing the staff especially Yonas as they are always very warm and welcoming.

What a great find whilst visiting Birmingham. It was extremely cold when we visited and our waiter moved heaters to ensure we stayed warm and he also had the happiest smile I have seen in a long time. This was along with his friendliness and helpfulness. He guided us on portion size and did not try and over sell. We shared an injera between us and it was more than enough. The wats (or curries ) were delicious and eating with our fingers made it that more special. The bill for two was next to nothing and it's really good value for money.
