Had Nacho's, beef burger, and chicken. The food was excellent all round. I would say the chicken is better cooked and more flavoursome than nandos!

I don't put bad reviews but I had to share this bad experience yesterday i had beef steak ( meat the steak ) which was asked with full done cooked, when food was delivered I tried it was like more chewing meat and when I checked it was not fully done , I told and showed staff they agreed and took steak from table and brought it back after max 15 20 seconds and I was surprised they gave same steak more heat and steak was not still ready as I was fasting and hungry I still gave it a try by saying nothing later while reaching home I started feeling my stomach is going to be disturbed and finally I did vomit on way home , not sure if it was due temperature , food handling pr re heating same steak but all I can say this place isnot for steak as it was not served as asked and flavour on steak was also plain

I booked a table for my husbands birthday back in december 2nd 2024 and i know its a pretty late review but this place left such a wonderful experience for us. Huge thank you to the black guy who wears glasses he was amazing sorted out a cake for my husband and started playing william its my birthday tune!! Thank you so much for making his birthday soo memorable. Xx

The service was absolutely disgusting, they had only 2 staff members serving tables full of customers i waited over an hour for food to arrive. I ended up leaving because they took so long to just bring us our food. They served multiple online orders and other tables but did not bring our food. I would like to specifically like to complain about a specific staff member who referred to himself as “H”. A dark skinned man with glasses told me multiple times my order will be 5 minutes i waited much longer than 5 minutes. I went here to open my fast and i waited over an hour and still did not receive any food. I would rate this place even less than 1 star if i could. It took them half an hour to bring us our drinks as we were fasting and they brought us over a jug of water, and also the jug was absolutely filthy. I would not recommend going to this restaurant especially if you are opening a fast. This so called “H” needs to stop running around and doing laps around the restaurant and actually serve his customers to a good standard.

Lovely place always Impresses, decor lovely, a bit pricey but food is quality, very happy to take guests or family here, staff knowledgeable as well, keep it up. Came here again Feb 25 lovely food and vibe.

Where do I start? The service provided by Jay and Manvir was excellent!!!!!!!! They made is feel welcomed and comfortable. They were well presented and very polite. Love the atmosphere and will definitely return. FYI It was our 17th anniversary so dining here made the occasion memorable.

10/10 minus nothing. Delicious menu, can’t even fault anything. Seasoning and serving size was top notch, delicious drinks, and lovely customer service. I wish I knew this place sooner. My favourite food on the menu was rice and peas and mutton curry. Oh my gosh, tasted like heaven. Now that I have discovered this gem, they should expect me every weekend 😂.

I went here with my family, and we all thoroughly enjoyed the meal. The interior was lovely, and the vibe was really inviting. The menu is extensive, which made it a bit hard to choose since there were so many great options! We ordered fish & chips and chicken wraps, and both were delicious. The wait for the food wasn’t long at all, and the staff were friendly and attentive. The food was reasonably priced, and we all left happy. I’d highly recommend this place to anyone—there’s something for everyone, and the atmosphere makes it a great spot for a meal!

Had a lovely meal with plenty of variety. The puff pastry was nice when dipped in their house chilli sauce as a starter. The meat platter was plenty of food for 3-4 people and the Mac n cheese was fresh, not a microwave job like you find in many other places! The steak was cooked a little more well done than requested and the waiter kindly offered several times to change it but we told him not to worry as it was still nice and I’d rather not waste food. All the food was hot and tasty with different marinades and condiments. The Afrikana house marinade was the best pick of the bunch. Service was great and genuinely friendly from every staff member who regularly checked in to make sure we were ok and that the food was fine, and it was genuine care rather than asking as a formality. A nice night all round, thank you. Visited again Jan 2025, service was great and tried the Big Poppa burger meal this time with spicy marinated chips and a prawn starter which was all awesome.

It was so much better than I could have expected. It was quiet for some reason, but oh my days was it good. If you ever go ask for Jay! He’s an amazing host, so thoughtful and genuine. He really made it worth the 5 stars. Can confidently say that I have a reason to go to Birmingham ahain!

A warm inviting place and amazing food! Our waiters were Tousif and Jay on a Saturday afternoon. Great tasting food, nice, big portions, a clear allergen list, good atmosphere, an excellent choice we made out of all the other places around Ladypool rd. Everything we ordered was fresh and cooked just right.

Comida increíble y el servicio era 10 / 10! Gran ambiente; nos atendieron Jay y Touseef y siempre estaban comprobando que teníamos todo lo que necesitamos. Hemos estado en la sucursal de Manchester y esta no decepcionó. La comida fue cocinada a la perfección; el tamaño de la porción era excelente! Incluso a los niños les encantó; los mantuvo callados mientras comían. En general, 5 * comida y servicio, sin duda volveremos de nuevo la próxima vez que estemos en Birmingham, gracias chicos!

***HIGHLY RECOMMENDED*** 7/10. Visited here on 3rd Jan 2025 after 4 years. Originally, I had given them 1 star with the below comment "Shockingly salty .. service very slow. Only good thing was the wings.* This time round excellent food and service to match with it. Ordered spicey chicken on the toast that had lovely flavour. Fish and Chips was the star of the show well balanced, breaded, and their tarter sauce was 👌. The Jambalaya was nice too, but nothing was as good as the fish, especially with the saucy fries. Moving on to the service, Jay made excellent suggestions and his managed to bring back the stars up to 4 from 1. Will be visiting again later, and if the service and food are the same, it will be one of my 5 star places to eat. One small suggestion is that the macaroni needs a little more nuttiness and thicker sauce/seasoning. Thanks, Jay and Afrikana.

Amazing food & the service was 10/10! Great atmosphere; we were served by Jay and Touseef and they were always checking to see we had everything we need. We have been to the Manchester branch and this one did not disappoint. The food was cooked to perfection; the portion size was excellent! Even the kids were loving it; kept them quiet whilst they ate. Overall, 5* food and service, will definitely be back again the next time we're in Birmingham, thanks guys!

The food was flavoursome and they have many options to pick from. Great presentation and the portion size was decent. However, I had to reduce my ratings as the service was not pleasant at all. While the staff were polite, they had an urgency for us to exit, as well as other customers too. I noticed that this happened on both occasions. It would have been understandable if they were busy that day, however, on both occasions, the restaurant was not busy at all.

Fantastic African fusion food. They have a mix of traditional African food like Jollof, goat curry and Bunny Chow. The service has always been faily good, even at peak times. The drinks (mocktails) are excellent and refreshing. The only issue would be the lack of nearby parking and very poor mobile service.

Been gone to other AFRICANA restaurants this deff stood out nice atmosphere our waiter haych was not not pushy he helped with the menu also recommend the best dishes. I have to say the waitering was done in such manner that he read our faces of we needed and how to help and make things right So 5stars. Thank you for the experience

Came back to try the food and will definitely not be coming again what a waste of money! The steak I ordered medium rare and was so difficult to cut (with a steak knife) never mind chew, it was just so chewy and tough felt like it was frozen wasn’t juicy at all, both of us left half as we were so hungry but just couldn’t eat it, the sides were nice especially the okra. However we was the only customers there to start and service was good, then as more customers came our service deteriorated and other customers, I don’t think 1 waiter who answers the phone, greet and seats customers, make the drinks, serve food and packs and send the uber eats deliver is the best idea. More staff is needed however I would like to add how well mannered and nice the waiter that served us was. Afrikana in Cardiff is amazing I’ve been a few times however the one in Birmingham is so poor quality ☹️

Food was en route later than it should have been. Delivery time kept updating. Driver was sitting at the wrong destination, not moving, for over ten minutes. Then the order was marked as delivered when I never received it! :(

Halal African dishes with desi twist. Delicious and generous portions. Cosy atmosphere. The person taking our order guided us with the dishes, and his recommendations were truly delicious.

Went here for my birthday meal and all of the girls loved it! I ordered the Island Fish & Chips, which had an African twist on the British dish - it was seasoned to perfection. I highly recommend this dish, I will say it was a tad salty (I am sensitive to salt) but other than that it was very delicious. The atmosphere itself is truly wonderful. As a previous interior architecture and design student, I can say it’s one of my favourite restaurant interiors! The mood lighting and lush surroundings make for a great intimate meal. Shoutout to ‘Haych’, a lovely and very funny chap! 10/10 service from everyone, and they helped make my day feel even more special. No complaints 😊 thank you!

My wife and I tried this place out for the first time, and it was also our first time trying Afro-Carribbean cuisine. So we ordered the classics: Goat Curry and Jambalaya. We also ordered some Loaded Chicken Fries & our drinks: Cloud Nine (with candyfloss) & Island Dream Mocktails. We were served by the energetic Haych & Manvir and were recommended by our server to try the Island Dream Mocktail, which my wife loved! The decoration was also very vibrant and fit their theme well. As for the food, we loved the spice level and especially being Asian, we were pleasantly surprised by the level of spice and the flavour. We especially love that they had Halal options. We really look forward to coming back and trying more dishes very soon.

This place is a joke honestly countless times they just take the mick. Went for the half price roast dinner yes of course it was a discount but doesn’t mean you take the piss, one tiny quarter leg of chicken, 3 green beans, 3 carrots, 2 roast potatoes, 1 stuffing ball, a measly portion of mac and cheese it looked nothing like it did on instagram and TikTok! Yes I wasn’t expecting the exact same I’m not stupid but it was so stingy! And if you’re wondering why I didn’t complain it’s because it took over an hour to get two chicken roast dinners, and the table next to us who came later (party of 3) had their roast dinners before us. They either forgot or just thought they’ll take the piss with two girls. So at this point I was too hungry and just wanted to eat, luckily I didn’t have to pay full price for that it was a joke. Why do a promotion when you can’t meet demand or give some dead portions? You can see from the video the plate looks empty, like it’s a chicken place and the chicken piece I got was soo tiny at least give more chicken for a roast dinner wtf. Absolutely pathetic. And no updates given on wait time staff just ignore you, employ more kitchen staff very very disappointed I bet they won’t even take this review seriously.

Upon entry it was a nice warm welcome whilst we were waiting for our table to be cleaned. We had starters of the chicken bites which were flavorful , fresh and tasty. The okra fries were very delicious as well. For the mains we ordered the butterfly chicken and the hangin kebab. The butterfly chicken was tasty and it came with fries. The hangin kebab was disappointing as we were not given beef but chicken and this was due to the beef having run out. The presentation itself wasn’t great. I would have expected maybe some rice and salad on the side. For the price the mains were not plentiful compared to other places. We then ordered a kids burger meal and a bowl of beef and rice, the beef and rice was okay. It tasted same as pakistani ghosht and brown rice. It was very spicy. Overall i would say the food was nice but the portions were a let down and the presentation. the drinks were definitely over priced as they didnt have the usual soft drinks and they charged around £3 for a glass of j20.

Had an unfortunate miss of an item on one order spoke to jay who works there who was more than happy to accommodate this on the next order providing me with the drinks and extra chicken on my next time ordering round free of charge, was amazing service and would highly recommend the food it tastes delicious and the whole environment is amazing. Also is a great atmosphere inside to when I went there for a meal with my friends

This was a last minute destination. We were not disappointed. Was the best fish and chips I ever had. The fried okra was crunchy tasty. Starter platter was full of flavour chicken. Grilled wings. 10/10 Service was top notch also. We will be back soon. Thanks to H and the team.

I was actually impressed by the food and the overall atmosphere. The staff were super kind and brought us all the good sauces to our table so we could use as much as we wanted—no stinginess at all! The beef burgers were average, but I think they were reasonable for the price. I’d definitely recommend their steak, though; I tried it before and it was amazingggg!
