Afrikana in Birmingham

Upon entry it was a nice warm welcome whilst we were waiting for our table to be cleaned. We had starters of the chicken bites which were flavorful , fresh and tasty. The okra fries were very delicious as well. For the mains we ordered the butterfly chicken and the hangin kebab. The butterfly chicken was tasty and it came with fries. The hangin kebab was disappointing as we were not given beef but chicken and this was due to the beef having run out. The presentation itself wasn’t great. I would have expected maybe some rice and salad on the side. For the price the mains were not plentiful compared to other places. We then ordered a kids burger meal and a bowl of beef and rice, the beef and rice was okay. It tasted same as pakistani ghosht and brown rice. It was very spicy. Overall i would say the food was nice but the portions were a let down and the presentation. the drinks were definitely over priced as they didnt have the usual soft drinks and they charged around £3 for a glass of j20.

This place is a joke honestly countless times they just take the mick. Went for the half price roast dinner yes of course it was a discount but doesn’t mean you take the piss, one tiny quarter leg of chicken, 3 green beans, 3 carrots, 2 roast potatoes, 1 stuffing ball, a measly portion of mac and cheese it looked nothing like it did on instagram and TikTok! Yes I wasn’t expecting the exact same I’m not stupid but it was so stingy! And if you’re wondering why I didn’t complain it’s because it took over an hour to get two chicken roast dinners, and the table next to us who came later (party of 3) had their roast dinners before us. They either forgot or just thought they’ll take the piss with two girls. So at this point I was too hungry and just wanted to eat, luckily I didn’t have to pay full price for that it was a joke. Why do a promotion when you can’t meet demand or give some dead portions? You can see from the video the plate looks empty, like it’s a chicken place and the chicken piece I got was soo tiny at least give more chicken for a roast dinner wtf. Absolutely pathetic. And no updates given on wait time staff just ignore you, employ more kitchen staff very very disappointed I bet they won’t even take this review seriously.

Had an unfortunate miss of an item on one order spoke to jay who works there who was more than happy to accommodate this on the next order providing me with the drinks and extra chicken on my next time ordering round free of charge, was amazing service and would highly recommend the food it tastes delicious and the whole environment is amazing. Also is a great atmosphere inside to when I went there for a meal with my friends

I love Afrikana Haych is kind and lovely like always and Manvir was very patience This is my second time at afrikana and I loved it The atmosphere is nice and calm The music is not too high compared to other places where you cannot hear yourself and the food was delicious as always We will be coming soon!

This was a last minute destination. We were not disappointed. Was the best fish and chips I ever had. The fried okra was crunchy tasty. Starter platter was full of flavour chicken. Grilled wings. 10/10 Service was top notch also. We will be back soon. Thanks to H and the team.

Lovely food. But lighting is a bit dim, feels like you’re sat in the dark no matter the time of day - not a fan. Great service from Nimra :)

I was actually impressed by the food and the overall atmosphere. The staff were super kind and brought us all the good sauces to our table so we could use as much as we wanted—no stinginess at all! The beef burgers were average, but I think they were reasonable for the price. I’d definitely recommend their steak, though; I tried it before and it was amazingggg!

Get the Afrikana sauce it is fireeee!!!! Not to spicey the right amount MMMM WAY BETTER THAN NANDOES!! I was on a date and stayed till the end just because the food slapped!!! Plantain was juicy and ripe jollof had a kick but pefectly made! I INHALED!!! 10/10 would recommend! Perfect date night / friend night/ bring your parents that can cook but want nice food night!

Our visit to Afrikana Birmingham was truly exceptional. The culinary offerings were outstanding, featuring a generous platter that we supplemented with additional chops and selected sides. We also opted for an upgrade on our fries. The portion sizes were more than ample, comfortably satisfying our group of five. The staff's hospitality was particularly noteworthy. They displayed a warm, friendly demeanor and were remarkably accommodating, addressing all our requests with enthusiasm. Their service consistently exceeded our expectations, contributing significantly to the overall positive dining experience.

Was walking past this joint and thought let's have a look at the menu...... Menu is what enticed us in plus the way Jay (manager) politely entertained our enquiry. Once sat down at the table Tee (our waiter) was very helpful in recommending what he thought were his main dishes. We went for Lady Finger starters (great appetiser dish), in-house Hummus was delicious. Main courses were Bun True Love (a double smash patty burger) was delicious served with crispy fries and sauces, we also had Just Kebabin (succulent, slow cooked mutton boneless pieces of meat with peppers and vegetables served with mash potatoes. Dining experience was great, waiters very attentive and very polite. Big shout to Tee and Jay again 👍🏽

I recently visited Afrikana on Ladypool road and had an incredible dining experience! I ordered the butterfly chicken, which was cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The seasoning was spot on, and the portion size was generous. What really stood out, though, was the exceptional service. Zak, our server, went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed. He was attentive, friendly. I highly recommend this place for both the delicious food and top-notch service. I'll definitely be coming back!

Was keen to try Afrikana on Ladypool Road, after reading the reviews but our experience was horrible. When we arrived we was taken to a table. half hour later as we was not approached we asked a waiter how long it would take before we could order drinks and/or food he advised cooking time for food was 20 minutes and he took our order. My partners food did arrive within the 20 minutes promised but the curry mutton was forgotten about we had to wait a further 30 minutes before they continued to pass us by before we could ask them what was going on with the food, it then took another 10 minutes and arrived to our table (no apologies) this meal was not edible the meat was so chewy I could not stop chewing so had to bin it and I gave up eating the meat, the rice was like a microwaved rice in clumps of rice, the plantain was three tiny piece so couldn’t taste anything at all. My partner enjoyed the beef taco starter, the mac and cheese tasted like a pasta bake and was very cheesy we shared some of it as a side dish, the sweet potatoe fries were nice but they were cold so that was a shame. We were not asked at any point how our food was. Following a further hour wait we asked for the bill, the waiter could see the mutton was barely touched and still did not ask how the food was, it was deflating eating here, the service was terrible ruined our evening out won’t be returning.

It was my first time there and will definitely not be my last. Great food and variety, great service and nice atmosphere.

I recently had the pleasure of trying Afrikaans cuisine for the first time, and I was thoroughly impressed. The food was of exceptional quality, and the overall experience was fantastic. What truly elevated the evening, though, was the outstanding service from the front of house staff, particularly Haych, who made the experience even more memorable. I highly recommend this place—10/10!

I noticed he was serving other tables at the same time but there was no issues, everything we needed was provided extremely quickly. Top place to eat. My go to whenever I want to go out, been here a few times. Food is high quality, portions are good size, price is, like everywhere else going to be on the high end, so if I'm going to spend that much, I'd rather spend it on food like this. A group of 4 of us went and thought the chops were 10/10, prawns were 10/10, the portion size for the chicken platter was good, we were all able to share, and there was a dish called jambalaya, had rice and chicken made with a special Africa sauce which was just amazing, (1st time trying that so will definitely get it when I go again). Atmosphere was amazing, and there was also a small smoke show, which they only do in the evenings, so added to the ambience. Staff were amazing from the moment we walked in to the end. A lot of places are overrated on ladypool road, so when going with friends that are critical about food, and they enjoy it, it makes me happy and shows that the place has genuinely good food. Will be back very soon! Toilets available. Parking very limited, but there's spaces around on roads near by. Not too busy at all Saturday (9pm)

This place is full of vibes. The food is tasty fresh and overall just outstanding. Reasonably priced for the quality of food and presentation. I must say I do love coming here. Big shout out to H who is so lovely. He is lively and just brings out the good vibes. H explained the menu very detailed and was very clear about everything and really helpful.
