I took a client for an early dinner and had a fantastic meal with fantastic service. It's normally quiet this time of year with lots of London residents being away on holiday but we're pleasantly surprised to see so many guests. There was some buzz the Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin and his girlfriend had just left after dining. I queried the manager (which turned out to be the owner) and he said he comes in often because he leaves nearby in Kensington and loves the food! We had beef satay and shrimp rolls amongst a number of other items that were included. Very nice!

I was recently on a business trip in London and was in the mood for some good Thai food. A local associate recommended Blue Lagoon and I was glad he did. The menu is standard Thai fare, but there's a few with an interesting twist as well. I usually get the typical Pad Thai but decided on having a new dish because I was in an adventurous mood, I was very impressed with it (forgot how to spell it!) that I went to this restaurant 3 different times in the 9 days I was in town and ordered the "leaf thing". The staff is very polite and efficient, and the prices are great by London standards. I would highly recommend paying this place a visit if you're in town.

Well, here I am, at the Blue Lagoon, having a pint of Cobra in a leather sofa at the new bar. It's a relaxed, confident, Thai restaurant. The food is good, certainly great value. But what makes it unique is the ambience and the Holland Park locals. Jimmy Page just popped in. J.K. Rowling and Bill Gates swing by every now and then. The owner is terrific, makes everyone feel welcome. I love this place.

He asked us what type of food we liked and that's what he brought. We love beef so he brought these amazing beef satay for which he insisted we eat right away before they get cold. Then we got some "lady in love" prawn dish...pretty much spring rolls filled with the biggest prawn you could imagine. The main dish was beef, basil and garlic dish that tasted so fresh, healthy I asked for more. I guess they are going to be adding a contemporary bar next week sometime...can't wait!

Gosh this was bad! The manager/owner appears to run the place with an iron fist as the welcoming waitress was abruptly shouted down as we entered. The food we ordered was very disappointing - the waitress couldn't even remember whether my partner's meal was chicken or seafood, and to be fair it was hard considering the one or two prawns buried in badly cooked rice! The worst part came when we said that we were simply not happy paying the 12.5% OPTIONAL service charge as we were not happy with the food - the waitress explained that it was not optional and that she would have to report us to the manager. He appears to be the Idi Amin of restaurateurs that man! We left quickly to never return!

As a vegetarian I often find it hard to find an oriental restaurant that are flexible with making vegetarian dishes. I often go to terrible places that replace the meat with veg but forget to take out the fish sauce and this ignorance makes me furious. So for a restaurant to be able to be so flexible proves that they must make it from scratch. So this restaurant catered to my veggie needs, and as a massive foodie I was beyond satisfied with the food. The stir fry my boyfriend had left him wanting more, despite ordering two starters as well as our mains. And my green curry was so so spicy, which is how they make it in Thailand, but no so much in Cambridge. We were too full by the end, and the manager was kind enough to give us a new batch of steamed rice to go with what we had left over, before we left. Safe to say if in London again I will be sure to give this restaurant another visit.

Not a great Thai food experience, I won't be back. The waitress was very good and pleasant, however an older male (I assume to be the owner) certainly chose the wrong career when he entered the world of hospitality! This didn't reflect a calm Thai atmosphere, throughout the meal the background music was drowned out by the shouts of the owner, in a loud and ignorant manner. It's not surprising he added a service charge as this guy really wasn't earning a tip from me!I had 3 course lunch special, chicken wings followed by a Green Curry with chicken. I can honestly say that both were tasteless, and as for the 1 choice dessert, coconut ice-cream, I couldn't face it after the very bland previous dishes.

Found this place trying to get away from the Olympia 'Madding Crowds'. Menu looked ok and prices reasonable. The three of us all went for various options from the lunchtime set menu. The starters arrived very quickly, and it was apparent in short order that they had all been microwaved, and appeared to have been bought from a well known shop that mum's are very fond of. The mains weren't a lot better. The manager is a character and has a reasonable line in banter, but that is about the only plus point that we could find. Shan't be rushing back.

I called blue lagoon and ordered salad, pad Thai with prawn, Tom yum soup and sticky rice. 10mins after came in and got my takeaway bag. I was quick. I had no spoon or folk or any chopsticks. Personally I feel like they have mixed chilli with water to make Tom yum soup and probably they don't have the good rice or don't know to cook rice because the rice turned out really bad. Too much water made the rice too wet but some bits aren't cooked. I paid £25 for all of those foods. Thanks. I was starving and had my lunch at 3pm still couldn't swallow them.

I had a lovely time in the blue lagoon. The food servings were generous and very flavoursome. I would have liked to have seen the traditional mango and coconut rice desert that I'd tried when I travelled to Thailand in April, but that didn't matter after I ordered the duck massaman with the coconut rice and my partner ordered the pad Thai and we shared a sea bass that was perfectly cooked. We couldn't eat another thing! The manager was attentive and offered us free liquors after we finished eating. Despite his generosity we had to refuse cos we'd eaten too much. It was a tasty reward after a long day of Christmas shopping in the high street and we'd definitely indulge ourselves in this restaurant again. But maybe we'll leave some room to try the banana fritters next time. I don't understand how this restaurant has received bad reviews. We were a bit surprised to find the place almost empty on a Friday evening, but decided to give it a go. I know now why there was no one in! We are fans of Thai food having eaten it in several cities around the world including SE Asia, but frankly this was very poor and not at all authentic. I'm not sure if the chef was 'authentic'?The noodles in the Pad Thai were like rubber and the green curry like it had come out of a jar. A very cheap jar! We used to go to this restaurant about 10 years ago, when we were up in London on business. In those days the food used to be pretty good, and even at lunch time it was quite busy. We were in town towards the end of October and decided we wanted Thai food, so that's where we would go. The restaurant has one other couple in it. They gave us a table in the large window, I guess to try & make it look like at least someone was eating inside. We ordered the prawns in batter with chilli jam to share as a starter. The batter was soggy, there were 4 prawns 2 bits of raw broccoli and some other vegetable I can't remember. We then ordered egg fried rice, red chicken curry, stir fried vegetables and squid. The rice had diced carrots in it!!! I have never in my life had diced carrots in and egg fried rice! The red thai curry was quite tasty, but it had massive bits of raw aubergine in it. ( European not Thai) the stir fried vegetables were poor, but the squid was awful. It was so chewy neither of us could eat it, so we put it back on the serving plate. When they came to clear the table, we told the waiter (who was a nice young man) that it was over cooked and chewy therefore we couldn't eat it. The manager said it was because it was stir fried and not deep fried. For some reason he said he would take it off the bill, but insisted we tried the deep fired version. We didn't really want it, but as he was polite to us, doesn't seem he is to many people, we let them serve it to us. We are foodies and cook a lot. We eat at Michelin starred restaurants. I have even stir fried squid at home and it has been perfectly cooked and tender, because I didn't over cook it! Anyway, it was very disappointing and we will not be going back. The only thing I would say, is a few of the people who reviewed this restaurant mentioned they knew of a really good Thai restaurant in London, could they please tell us the name in their review. It would be very much appreciated, as know we have no idea where to go for great Thai food.

This was a terrific find in West London. Thai food can often be overpoweringly 'hot' with little to taste other than 'heat'. This restaurant was very different, despite choosing the 'two chillis' (from their very helpful chilli heat menu) the Red curry was hot but tasty and full of flavour. The coconut and sticky rice were both excellent and desert menu was very good.Overall, for 5 people to eat 2 courses and beers for under £35 per head, this was both tasty and cost effective.

I was so excited to finally have Thai food in London but was terribly disappointed with the food, service, and atmosphere of Blue Lagoon. We arrived here during prime dinner time and the place was empty except for about 2 tables, yet it still took a good 5 minutes for us to even be acknowledged by a server and then another 5 minutes to be given menus. Everyone who served us had a look and attitude of disdain and smugness. What they had to be smug about I have no idea, Blue Lagoon look and feels like the inside of a corporate office cubicle. Once we finally got our food, it was not the fantastically flavorful Thai food I was looking forward to. Instead it was your run of the mill Asian food with nothing distinctly Thai about it. My friend ordered a side of steamed rice that did not come with the rest of our entrees. When she politely the server for it, the server gave her a dirty look and promptly went to the back of the restaurant and started talking to her companion. After they finished their conversation, which was obviously very important, my friend finally got her rice, close to 10 minutes later. Needless to say, we did not leave all of the suggested service charge. I hope to find better Thai places in London soon, as Blue Lagoon did nothing to whet my appetite.

We last went here last year with some friends, using our Tastecard. Although it was lunchtime and the restaurant was empty apart from one other table, the manager said, rudely, that we should have booked. We have not been back since as my wife particularly dislikes it and the attitude. However, we thought we would give it another try this week but was told they have now stopped allowing Tastecard. As I told them, they lost four people from a restaurant which would have been nearly empty at 7 pm. To us, the experience makes it only worth going using the Tastecard. There are plenty of other Thai restaurants to choose from. I can think of three within half a mile or so. Whilst they don't take Tastecards, the experience might easily be better.Would we go again. Never, unless they took Tastecard or similar and then we would think twice.Since we did not actually eat there, this is obviously not an actual "visit" review. Tried to visit would be more appropriate.

We love Thai food but always feel a bit naughty as it's not quite as healthy as we usually seek. So a visit to a Thai restaurant is a treat. The Blue Lagoon is conveniently located on Kensington High Street across from the Odeon so it's ideal for a "meal and movie" evening in the west end of London. Did we enjoy it? Yes. Was it value for money? Yes. Is it on our list of 'must returns'? Not really, although if we wanted to catch a movie in Kensington again we'd probably go back. So why the lukewarm reaction? Well, a couple of things. Although the food is perfectly good Thai, there is little engagement by staff. Nobody looks very happy serving you. And the atmosphere is a bit, well, non existent (although we had a nice table by the window). But most of all, I hate when restaurants automatically add a service charge to the bill AND THEN ask via the credit card process whether you want to add a gratuity. I always look out for this and have to, embarrassingly, ask 'Didn't you already add service?". This is just bad practice which they should stop. Dishonest even. So maybe next time, they'll have stopped this practise. In which case, we wouldn't mind Thai again at the Blue Lagoon.

Enjoyed the set menu which we felt offered good variety and value. The staff were friendly and efficient. The reason for the 3 vs 4 score is simply because we love Thai food, but struggle to find it anywhere in the UK to compare against the food in Thailand. This was god but lacked that extra freshness and vibrancy that you find in Thailand.

After reading the rave reviews on this restaurant website, we decided to check this place out. It was not what we were expecting.Although our starters were acceptable, what we got for the mains was of a very poor standard. The duck was fatty and it was a struggle to find pieces that were edible. The battered prawns were mixed up with battered pieces of brochilli which were awful and left us both with a bad taste in our mouths! They have the cheek of including a service charge which we reluctantly paid as we hope it at least goes to the waiting staff who were pleasant and attentive. For a restaurant so central in London, we have eaten so much better in smaller rural areas near to us.The overall experience at the Blue Lagoon was pretty rubbish overall.

This is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. Firstly, when I had called to make a reservation to celebrate my graduation with my family, the manager was convinced I had already called up to make a reservation as there was another party also celebrating their graduation. It took a while to convince him that more than one person graduates on the same day and I was separate from whoever had already booked earlier. When we arrived that evening, the service was awful. The manager was rushing around, being incredibly rude. When we ordered our food, we had said we were vegetarian (the menu states lots of veggie options available), yet our starters had prawn in them. An honest mistake I accept, yet we received no apology. Both manager and staff were incredibly rude to us, slapping our plates and food down as if they couldn't be bothered with us. When confronted, began to shout and caused commotion in the restaurant. The whole experience was awful and it ruined a perfectly nice day. What was supposed to be a celebratory meal but turned disastrous as my family and I just wanted to leave as soon as possible. When approached at the end the manager stated 'I couldn't care less what you think' Highly unprofessional in my experience. A real shame as the food is quite good, but service despicable. I would strongly not recommend!

I was in the country for a short while and at the hotel i was staying at recommended this restaurant and it failed to disappoint, The workers and the Manager were so welcoming and the dishes were exquisite. I thoroughly enjoyed them, so-called new dishes to the menu, Lamb Cutlets and one of the restaurants' starters, The Lady in Love. If i am ever back in town, i would definitely return to this restaurant5 Stars all round.

Being in London for business I was rather late yesterday and at 22 I did not have many choices where to go. Loving Asian food I went for this restaurant ... with some expectations too by reading the menu outside the entry door. I was totally wrong ... big disappointment. The seafood platter was simply horrible ... I'd rather call it a disaster ! The dish was supposed to be : King prawns, crab claws, cuttlefish and squid in light butter. Prawns were not "royal" because I did not see the King !!! Crab claws ? Just one piece without meat ... no squids and 2 invisible pieces of cuttlefish. In any case all fish was not "in light butter" but it was "burned" deep fried on the contrary ! Disgusting. Then I got : Pad kao pod ( prawns stir fried with baby corn, courgette andmushroom in oyster sauce ) no taste at all ! Prawns were frozen and in any case it is not an Asian cook who works in this restaurant ... it is impossible to prepare Asian food like that ! Even dessert was awful ... a chocolate semifreddo totally rancid ( it should have been there for months ... ). On top of that there was a table with a company of people in their 60s totally drunk and extremely noisy. I guess this place is just for tourists who go once and never come back. Well ...the only positive exprience in this restaurant was to have a chat with one of the waiters : a nice Spanish girl dressed in the traditional Thai costume !

I absolutely loved the menu choice and the food was so tasty and amazing. The place is so chilled out and incredible, blue lagoon has officially now been added as a favourite restaurant and believe I will be going very often. Thanks to the service I received from the workers and manager. I felt very welcomed and believe its good value for money. People who are reading this should go, YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

We were sucked in by the set menu which seemed reasonably priced, but instead of getting a decent variety of starters as suggested by the set menu, we just got a couple of miserable chicken satay skewers and some spring rolls. The food was not right and you get the feeling the these people either don't know how to make good Thai food or they just don't care.

Tiny portions in £15,50 vegetarian lunch (plus 12,5% service fee). Deep fried veggies (yak), another veggies that I could't eat because they tasted like mould, quite eatable green curry and huge stomach pains an hour after that...Service is good though.

I remember going to this restaurant about 8 years ago when it was actually run by Thai people. The current owners are middle eastern and obviously unfamiliar with this type of cuisine. Our Pad Thai tasted like an amateur's first time attempt at Thai food. The service is passable but the stinginess with the portions is not. Do not be fooled by the set menu offer. You will leave hungry and irritated. Go elsewhere.

I was in London for a meeting and the location of this restaurant was convenient. I'd never heard of this restaurant before but I thought I'd try it out with my colleagues. I was very impressed by the food and the service. I'm not an expert on Thai food but everything we ordered was delicious. The only pointer I could give to the restaurant is to change the music to Thai music to give it more of a Thai feel.

I recently visited Blue Lagoon for dinner whilst in London on business. I'm a big thai food fan and so was looking forward to it. For starter, I had a seafood platter which consisted of prawns, a crab claw and squid pieces, battered and deep fried. Dissapointing. The overall flavour was of fat, not seafood. My next course was tamarind duck. This was much better in terms of flavour, but was a little pricey for what you got in terms of portion size, but was tasty enough. Nothing special though. I also had the sticky rice which was fine. Overall, I know it's in London and so prices are automatically higher than most places, but for the money, I really would have expected a little more in terms of the quality of the food. The service from the waitress and a man who I believe was probably the manager was very good though. They were efficient, friendly and polite, and although it was quite early and relatively quiet, there was a good atmosphere in the restaurant.Would I go back? Maybe but probably not. The meal cost £41 for just myself (with a few beers which bumped the price up), which I wouldn't mind paying if it was a really good meal, but I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find better food very close by in London.

Went there on Sunday afternoon few weeks ago. We were not impressed with food. Watery liquid, with lots of soy sauce in it, supposed to be a soup - not the best to start with. My main was some sort of a salad with vermicelli, minced chicken and lots of chilli in it. Far too much chilli! I like spicy food but that was just overwhelming the whole dish. It didn't taste good, it didn't look good either. My partner ordered pad thai that came in as a greasy and lacking of flavor rice noodles. The restaurant interior is quite dull and is lacking of atmosphere. Probably it looks better in the evening, but on that sunny afternoon they had no light or music on and it was just tedious. Not my type of place. The only good thing about this place was a young waiter who was really helpful and friendly.

Lacking in ambience. Had a waiter with a very poor command of the English language and very average food. Ordered one of the set menus and found the pork dish to be so chewy it was inedible. Overall the food lacked both in flavour and presentation. The only highlights of the meal were the wine, which was much better than expected, and the prawn toast, which was particularly good. However, this didn't make up for the overall lacklustre meal.

Service - hopeless at best, down right rude at it's worst!Food - cat sick on a plate would have been more appealing! Complained about the sticky rice because it resembled a white rubber lump - the waitress (who incidentally spoke no English, or Thai) giggled and went away to ask her manager what it should look like. Came back - no that's right.... I had to ask for a knife to cut it with.Water only available in 1Lt bottles, although on the menu it is available by the glass... Only saving grace in all was one sweet Thai lady who I suspect the whole operation would come entirely unhinged without.

We went to Blue Lagoon for a quick dinner before the theatre mid-week. We booked a table as the restaurant took Tastecards. On arrival we were asked to display our tastecard on the edge of the table for the entire duration of the meal. We felt like this was a bit unnecessary. We then ordered starters, sides, main courses, 3 lots of alcoholic drinks, and as I was due to run a half marathon at the weekend i was not drinking, so asked for a tap water.I was told I could not have a tap water as we were using a Tastecard. I then said, I think its illegal (which I have now checked and it is; anywhere serving alcohol has to provide tap water), and the waitress said no i am sorry my Manager will not allow it.I persevered, and was very reluctantly allowed a small glass of tap water.I found this completely unreasonable to deny someone tap water, i felt like we were punished for using our tastecard.I will not return to this restaurant. The food was actually pretty tasty, the massaman curry was delicious, but totally ruined by having to argue for the right to be served tap water.

If you are staying in the Kensington area in London, the Blue Lagoon is in walking distance. We ordered two of the set meals and two glasses of white wine. The pad thai was very good and yellow curry was totally delicious too. The first glass of wine was not fresh, but when requested, the manager opened up a fresh bottle. Dessert was offered, but we declined. Very easy dining atmosphere. Not able to select any other ratings except terrible on my tablet...please disregard these ratings.

I read some Google reviews on this place which persuaded me to try it on Friday 6 September 2013. Very poor guidance and big mistake being taken in by it.The serving staff are kitchen mules. They take menu orders for dishes they have no knowledge of and eventually fetch the dishes to the table. They add no value whatsoever - the service is appalling and despite being largely oriental, they are definately not Thai. They denied is a seat at various table saying they were "reserved". There were no reserved signs and none of those table had been occupied by the time we leftThe food was stodgy, overcooked and devoid of flavor - it was reminescent of the stodgy stuff you get from take away Chinese restaurants. Good Thai food is delicately spiced and very flavoursome using good fresh ingredients. What was put on our plates felt like it warmed up left overs from lunchtime. This is a shabby, outdated venue masquarading as an authentic Thai restaurant. The blurb says the chef worked for the Thai royal family. That he may well have done - but certainly not in a kitchen.I think that all restaurants shouls by law have to collect and publish reviews such as this in a very visible way at the fron of their premises. That way they would be prevented from conning ill informed diners and be forced to clean up their act or go bust pretty quickly.

Ate here recently, good, location close to 2 hotels. Waitress got our drinks order wrong, but the manager quickly sorted things out. Our food was overly salty which really spoiled our experience. A friendly word to the manager……..both of your waitresses on duty would be better advised to avoid leaning against the pillar, chatting away near the entrance. There are always things they could be doing other than looking bored and uninterested as to how clients are enjoying their meals. We are normally generous when it comes to tipping, but as there is a 10% service charge in place, we decided that was sufficient. I always expect to see Thai staff in a Thai restaurant, but not on this occasion which is a poor sign to be honest and makes you wonder how authentic the food being cooked really is.

You would have thought that these type of 'restaurants' had disappeared with time, with people's better knowledge of 'exotic' cuisines and with an increasingly number of places - particularly in London - offering the real thing. Fitou's actually reminds those unfortunate people that decide to dine at its premises of those nasty, formica-laden, quick and dirty joints that were kind of popular in the UK about 20 years ago. 'Exotic' food to the British public was about ketchup on spaghetti or super hot tikka masalas, in short - together with kebabs - all that nasty food that was served to people leaving the pub rather inebriated and searching for something not to taste or enjoy, but food to numb their state of drunkenness. Apart from the nonchalant, 'who gives a ****' attitude of the 'staff', upon which people have commented here before, the food was disastrous. Unbelievable large amounts of oyster and soy sauce obliterating any taste. Ingredients on your plate indistinguishable from one other. Most concerning were all the mucky, charred bits obviously coming from the bottom of a pretty dirty wok, all to be seen on the plate served to you. God knows last time those woks were properly lined, let alone cleaned. Surely, looking at the customers there, Fitou's still gets away with it thanks to an audience that doesn't ask for any finesse, perhaps in life as well as when it comes to food. But this is properly ghastly food, an insult to Thai's cooking tradition, a sad reminder of a culture that thrives by disguising 'exotic' food and serving it as something else. Awful.
