He estado viniendo aquí durante años!

We have always gone to the Bangkok. No matter what all the other reviews say, there are only a few things on the menu that are truly mind-blowing. The Chicken Piquant Soup is the chef's grandmothers recipe. It is honestly the best I have ever tasted in my life. The chicken satay tastes authentic, unlike the supermarket cheap versions soaked in peanut butter. The savoury thai toast, a toasted sandwich cut into small pieces, filled with spicy sausage meat, is unusual but amazing. The thai green beef curry is one of the best, so is the Fried Chicken with Garlic, and if you want vegetarian there is so much on offer. And the lychee and rum and raisin sorbets and ice creams are amazing too.Staff are always friendly, although i know it may sound bad but a few years ago the people, the atmosphere, were a little more authentic. However, we go for the food and here it is amazing. No matter what anyone says- THIS IS AN AMAZING RESTAURANT! GO THERE TODAY!

I find it hard to believe that all of the reviews of Bangkok are genuine. My husband and I ate here - I had vegetable & egg soup - which tasted like boiled vegetable water. My husband had crab & chicken soup which had bits of cut up crab stick and was more like tinned soup (but worse). For mains, we had a chicken dish - the chicken, it that is what it was, tasted like it had been cooked and re-cooked and included all the worst cuts of chicken. The prawns in the prawn dish had been boiled to within an inch of their life and had no taste. It is over-priced, terrible, terrible food. There is no atmosphere. The service was slow and erratic and there seemed to be no management or organisation whatsover. The chef looked dirty and so did the kitchen. You will regret it.

Simple surroundings and small menu are not a problem, it's the quality of the food that matters. The food here was disappointing for a restaurant that has been around for decades. The chicken and crab soup was ok but the Thai fish cakes were awful, chewy and tasteless as though they had been over-zapped in a microwave. Our Thai chicken red and green curries were very average with a distinct lack of content, apart from chicken! Finally, the service, unless you were a local, was unfriendly and lacklustre. Will not be going there again.

We have been going to the Bangkok for forty years and almost nothing has changed apart from the waiters, undoubtedly some of the cooks and, inevitably, the prices. The cuisine is exactly the same as it always has been, mildly spicy plates prepared in a Thai style. The food is reliably very good despite being always predictable. I have only ever once had a disappointing plate here - when the barbecued pork was very gristly - but it was willing replaced by an alternative dish. Caution is urged, however, when ordering plates as the cost soon stacks up. Alcoholic drinks are expensive. My wife and I tend to have two starters, two main plates, one plate of noodles and a pot of jasmine tea for a typical cost of around £55. The cooking is done in a cordoned off part of the restaurant behind a low partition but it is easy to peer in and see several cooks diligently preparing the meals. The place is comfortable enough but there is no atmosphere as such - the main reason to be here is to eat. It can be fun though overhearing the locals enjoying rendezvous occasions. It is not unusual to hear French spoken; it is in South Kensington after all.

The fact that the menu hasn't changed is wonderful. The peanut sauce with the sate is incomparable. I have never tasted such a good one anywhere else. Thai rice noodles combined with chilli beef and garlic chicken is a meal made in heaven. I know that the bad reviews are definitely written by either other restaurants or some very sad people. Thank you Bangkok for never letting me down. P.S. I even sat next to Charles Aznavour once

I think for London it is reasonable especially when the food is good! I don't also understand reviewers giving bad score for the fact the restaurant has not changed since the 70s! that is the best thing about it, the menu is the same and that is why you go back, no surprise, no disappointment... the service was great when we went and it is the perfect for a non stuffy meal.PS the rosé wine (for served by the glass) was excellent!

A nice heat as well, which we enjoy. We then had our mains of noodles with prawn green curry (nicely spicy) and sweet and sour pork (a 'safe' choice and just 'ok'.)Overall very good food and we liked being able to see into the kitchen as dishes were being prepared. We were also happy to see the staff cleaning down all surfaces in the kitchen as our meal was winding down (counter tops, fume hoods, cupboard doors etc.)

This place seemed buzzy & popular & the people on the next table were clearly regulars. The menu is very limited with no descriptions of ingredients or flavouring for each dish. We asked the waitress if any of the soups were coconut based as my daughter particularly likes that style of Thai soup & we were told that they weren't. Later we saw the people next to us with something that looked very similar to a coconut based soup, milky appearance. We ordered 4 starters to share. The crab & chicken soup had no flavour at all, no discernible crab or chicken & no herbs or flavourings The toast (normally prawn), was pork in this case, weird & very greasy. We had ordered chicken satay. The accompaniments arrived with all of the other food, & despite asking several times, the satay itself did not appear until we had finished everything else. It was very greasy & tasted fried. All in all, nothing was remotely authentic & we left feeling very disappointed.

"You can never go back. In this case I refer to our first visit to the Bangkok in 1969. we were foodies even then, and had read about it in the Sunday Times. Britt Ekland was at a back table with two pretty boys. The food was amazing: spicy, different. Bliss was it, etc. Now it looks like a caff. At 6.30 it's where staff from Imperial and the museums stop off on the way home. The tables are way too close together, and very small. The staff were excellent. friendly, helpful, tables cleaned between each course, lots of tapwater. The food, well. Only the sate revived the memory. It tasted like it was straight off the grill. But the accompanying peanut sauce lacked any life. To try the soups was a mistake: the chicken and crab could have been cooked in Oxo; the tom yum prawn had lemon grass but little else. The Thai fish cakes could have been from Iceland. The Thai basil in the beef with crispy basil drowned out all other flavours, and wasn't crispy: the beef was tough, too. The chicken hadn't been cooked in its monolithic green curry sauce. And no vegetables in any of the dishes. It's as if the typical Thai magic of blending flavours had somehow passed the chefs by. We departed feeling much older, certainly wiser, and a lot poorer."

Bangkok Restaurant is a tiny little eatery cramped with tables and chairs so much so that the back end of your chair will always be leaning on something, a wall or the diner behind you. Not the most comfortable dining experience plus the decor is totally dated. Service was rather slow and the staff was not very attentive either. But at least the food was not a total disaster. It wasn't the best that London has to offer but certainly not the worst. In terms of value, I wouldn't recommend this restaurant. Nothing good to say about this restaurant - it's like a throwback to the seventies. That is excepting the prices which given the quality are a good few years in advance. The food is not objectionable but bland where the only spice/herb used seems to be chilli. It does feature an open kitchen which just highlights the lack of Thai chefs. From their appearance I would guess Eastern European. Likewise the serving staff being a mixture of Europeans - not a bad thing per se - but an indication of the lack of authenticity evident in the food!To cap a very disappointing evening - a pet hate of mine - the bottom line left open on the card machine after service was included in the bill. When I complained the waitress tried to defend the indefensible.

Very disappointing having been recommended this restaurant. The pork satay appetizer was the best thing we had, tender and tasty. Small Thai fish cakes were good also. The green thai chicken curry and red paste prawn curry (which they forgot to bring at first) were gaggingly sweet, as though one of the chefs had tipped some glucose in by mistake. The green thai sauce was thin too and chicken was insipid looking and tasting. Prawns watery looking. White boiled rice fine as was the fried rice. Drinks and two courses for 2 were £80, not even worth £40. Staff were not really bothered that we mentioned the over sweetness of the sauces and them forgetting one of the dishes despite the boss being nearby. No spark here. No wonder only about 5 tables were occupied at 8.15pm on a weekday night. The only thing I would say was very good-one of the staff was cleaning the filters in the kitchen meticulously.

I chose the restaurant because I'm very fond of Thai food, and I have eaten in many Thai restaurants all over Europe (and at the home of some of my Thai friends), so I have an idea what Thai food is supposed to be like. The menu doesn't offer a wide choice of dishes, but that's no problem because I prefer quality to quantity.I ordered chicken with green curry (and plain rice). They brought me a bowl with a (coconut) milky soup that contained some pieces of tasteless factory chicken meat, some bamboo sprouts and a few peas out of a can... no vegetables for the rest. Together with the rice it resulted in a sort of a liquid rice pudding with no specific taste. I think the staff could guess my discontentment as I left about half of my meal behind. The mineral water was good though... I'm sorry, but the fact that eating out in a London restaurant is rarely an inexpensive affair to begin with added to my disappointment.

It has small tables, friendly service and an open kitchen where three or more Thai chefs beaver away assiduously. Every dish is freshly prepared and redolent with spicy scents and flavours. We chose a piquant mushroom and prawn soup, medium spiced, followed by green Thai chicken curry with boiled rice and steamed vegetables. Simply and elegantly served in white bowls, it was utterly delicious! Lunch for two came out at just over £50 for two.

I eat out a lot, this is one of the most reliable restaurants in London, Authentic Thia food outside Thailand, its a little expensive, but I dont mind paying for quality food and first class service.

I have been going to this restaurant since the 1970s and it has hardly changed at all apart from the prices. The food is really simple and the flavours are amazing. The menu is small which is an advantage as most Thai restaurants insist on a mix and match approach to the dishes which makes for a long but uninspired list. To sum it up you won't find any carrot rosettes in this food and if you have eaten in many Thai restaurants you will know what I mean.

I went for dinner on my own while at work driving my boss around town, i had not booked which they seamed unsure of , even though there was plenty of room , also they were perplexed by my being on my own !!I was seated in the corner which was very hot as there is no air con and even with the double doors open.10 minutes went by before i was spoken to for any order , the food came , chicken satay for my first course the chicken was very good but the sauce was not good no flavour, i then had sweet sour pork egg fried rice and mixed veg all of which sadly were very bland , not what you would expect from Tai .The sauce tasted just like Heinz tomato sauce mixed with HP brown sauce very oddThe service was none existent with not asking me at all about anything even when i paid all very sad!I would not return

Glad we found this place, just off the main busy Kensington streets, good location, and just what you need after a busy day at the museums or shopping. Lived in Asia for a number of years and thoroughly enjoyed this place, decor was played down, not many frills (just the way an asian restaurant should be, it's all about the food). Interesting mix of thai and chinese dishes, all tasted great, reasonable enough price for the area.Service was quick even though it was busy, not the friendliest, but I've come to expect that, so it wasn't too much of a let down. Overall, nice experience and would definitely go back.

I have frequented this restaurant many times over the years after being introduced by a good friend and whilst the service has varied from excellent to ok'ish, the food has remained consistently good. If like me, you are fed up of restaurants that offer a diluted or over elaborate version of thai food, this restaurant is really old home style thai cooking and has a variety of dishes to suit, whether you favour your food spicy or less so.

Buon Thai in zona South Kensington. Giudizio complessivo comunque soddisfacente. Personale gentile. Prezzo 30 euro a testa con birra.

The good thing about this place is that the interior looks nice. Apart from that I quite don’t understand why some people are raving about it.The menu offers a very limited choice of dishes. It is all in English so if you know about Thai food, it is hard to figure out what dish is what. Then, asking for something not on the menu as simple as Tom Kha is not possible. Krapaw goong, which really should be on the menu was feasible after some negotiations but the results looked remotely like Krapaw Goong... Fish takes 25 minutes to prepare but at least you are warned. No Thai desert there but a choice between two types of can fruit. Service is fast and efficient but food is unremarkable. Overall, it is hard to recommend this place. Bangkok it is not...

I visit London once a year and found myself returning to Bangkok Thai each time. I enjoy the cleanly preparded food which they take extra care with to cater for my allergies. The wait staff are very helpful and the food arrives in a timely manner. It does get very busy and noisy at peak times. Despite the economy this restautant has retained its appeal due to its merits.

Setting is basic and functional. Bright and light but with good photos. Enjoyed starter of Tom Yum Soup which was well spiced. Main course ordered thai green chicken curry which we did not enjoy since the meat was predominately red thigh meat and no breast. At the end of the meal the kitchen told us that it was possible to specify before the type of meat you would like. Did not appear like quality meat had gone into the dish. Bill was higher than we were expecting including a 12.5% service fee (versus 10%). Staff were friendly and apologetic. Would not return nor recommend to others.

We've become regulars to this small S. Kensigton Thai restaurant. Great food, friendly and effecient service and right across the street from great gelato. Makes for a fun evening out. This is a regular stop when we have visitors in from out-of-town, there is always something for everyone.

We were looking for a Thai restaurant after a day if touring and our tour guide recommended this inconspicuous spot. Our food was simply wonderful. The Thai noodles were incredible as was the beef with fried basil and peppers. Prices were very reasonable by London standards with many dishes under £10. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Thai food.

We visted the Bangkok with friends after an ejoyable exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum, It was our first visit in over 20 years having eaten there often when living nearby. It was great to find the place is still serving reliably good Thai food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our chicken satay, thai fish cake and spring roll starters were very good and we followed this with some chicken red curry, a prawn stir fry, pork with ginger, thai noodles, stir fried vegetables and rice - and finished with jasmine tea. The red curry was particularly good, but all dishes had clear flavours and good, authentic spicing. The service was friendly and efficient - including warning us about the hottest of our menu choices and offering us an extra spring roll on the portion (of 3) so that we had one each. The decor is calm and dark and there is currently a nice collection of photos from Indochina on the walls. The menu is unfussy, short(ish) and just in English and the white wine and Thai beer we had with our food was reasonably priced and well served. The place was busy but found us a table - it was clearly full of local regulars.

The Bangkok is a great restaurant. The food is excellent, and well priced. I' a fussy eater and I have never tasted something I don't like on their menu! The food is not fancy and it is not a glamourous restaurant, so casual dress is fine. But it is elegantly decorated and cosy (they have stunning National Geographic-style photos of Thailand around the room). It is always filled with regulars. The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly, welcoming and polite. I love this place.

You would have thought that these type of 'restaurants' had disappeared with time, with people's better knowledge of 'exotic' cuisines and with an increasingly number of places - particularly in London - offering the real thing. Fitou's actually reminds those unfortunate people that decide to dine at its premises of those nasty, formica-laden, quick and dirty joints that were kind of popular in the UK about 20 years ago. 'Exotic' food to the British public was about ketchup on spaghetti or super hot tikka masalas, in short - together with kebabs - all that nasty food that was served to people leaving the pub rather inebriated and searching for something not to taste or enjoy, but food to numb their state of drunkenness. Apart from the nonchalant, 'who gives a ****' attitude of the 'staff', upon which people have commented here before, the food was disastrous. Unbelievable large amounts of oyster and soy sauce obliterating any taste. Ingredients on your plate indistinguishable from one other. Most concerning were all the mucky, charred bits obviously coming from the bottom of a pretty dirty wok, all to be seen on the plate served to you. God knows last time those woks were properly lined, let alone cleaned. Surely, looking at the customers there, Fitou's still gets away with it thanks to an audience that doesn't ask for any finesse, perhaps in life as well as when it comes to food. But this is properly ghastly food, an insult to Thai's cooking tradition, a sad reminder of a culture that thrives by disguising 'exotic' food and serving it as something else. Awful.

Ate here recently, good, location close to 2 hotels. Waitress got our drinks order wrong, but the manager quickly sorted things out. Our food was overly salty which really spoiled our experience. A friendly word to the manager……..both of your waitresses on duty would be better advised to avoid leaning against the pillar, chatting away near the entrance. There are always things they could be doing other than looking bored and uninterested as to how clients are enjoying their meals. We are normally generous when it comes to tipping, but as there is a 10% service charge in place, we decided that was sufficient. I always expect to see Thai staff in a Thai restaurant, but not on this occasion which is a poor sign to be honest and makes you wonder how authentic the food being cooked really is.
