The food itself was very good but unfortunately we didn’t have a good table. The dinner was extremely rushed and there was some table full of maybe football fans and couldn’t hear a word.

Will be going to them again.

We had CTM, Aloo Gobi, nan bread as a takeaway. Regretfully the CTM has dried thigh meat but with a nice sauce, the AG had undercooked potato and the Nan seemed re-heated. We were really looking forward to the meal but it fell short of their high standards…sorry

Chance finding in Lewes - pleasant venue ( maybe a touch too dark blue !) nice staff, attentive service and great food. Mixed starter good and Chicken Jalfreize (?) which we polished off, including a side dish’s of Brinjal and Tarka Dal and pilau rice. Had a Cobra beer and a quaffable Pinotage by the glass, which is an unusable wine, in an Indian restaurant Also a complimentary glass of brandy in a heated glass😀 A great find, and very reasonable/ modest price. Many thanks

Very nice Indian food. They serve several different ingredients (meat, chicken, paneer, vegetables, etc) that each goes with any of their interesting sauces. And when they say spicy they mean spicy! The naan is tasty too.

This was our first visit to Blue India. It was a Birthday present for my wife . Our youngest daughter came and was a great help, as my wife is severely disabled. As with all my reviews I try to give both the positives and negatives of our visit. Positives : 1. The staff were kind and helpful, especially as the restaurant was very busy. 2.Service was prompt and efficient, but not rushed. 3. The plain papadoms (£1 each) and chutney tray(£2.75) were offered when we arrived and were excellent. 4. We had the Mixed starter for 2 (although there were 3 of us). It was OK but the Lamb Tikka was dry, tough and chewy. 5. My wife and I chose Hyderabadi Tiger King Prawn Biryani, served with a vegetable curry. As we are in our eighties it would ,in hindsight, have been better to order one portion to be shared between us, as the portions were very large. Tiger prawns were very good. The restaurant kindly packed the excess of our meal to take home. Negatives: 1.The Needlemaker's car park was packed and disabled places occupied by people without blue badges ( not the fault of the restaurant). 2. My daughter chose the Paneer Shashlic, which according to the menu , had home made cheese. It was commercial cheese, and somewhat disappointing. 3. She had 2 x 250 glasses of Sauvignon Blanc at £7.50 a glass. This was rather expensive. We have been to many Indian restaurants all over the world (including India). This restaurant was OK, but expensive compared to others.

Solid enough choice for takeaway or sit-down dine in, waiting staff very relaxed and friendly also quick and snappy - one young waiter was an annoying salesman though, far too pushy with the expensive extras and sides.. Food generally robust with plenty of gentle, mild options - however Tandoori Half Chicken was overcooked and dry (disappointing for lofty price) - no excuse in a very quiet restaurant, naan bread nice but too small

Went there on a Thursday evening. Food was good. I had a mixed starter and chicken biryani. Only 2 negatives here are: The price. I split the bill with a colleague and the bill came to £37pp which I thought was a little steep for what we had Service. Whilst very attentive, we both felt a little rushed with plates being removed before I finished swallowing my last mouthful and constant requests to order next dishes when the place was pretty much empty and we wanted time to talk and relax. Nevertheless, the food was very nice so a 4 star from me.

Welcoming staff, food poor. Vegetable biriani rice full of large pieces of non Indian vegetables including sprouts and broccoli, the veg curry contained the same veg in a bland tomato sauce. Since this incrnation opened we have had about half a dozen take-aways, all of them superb. Last evening's selection included Gurkha's Revenge (silly name, inherited from the previous Spice Merchant) chicken and Goan Red Curry chicken, both beautifully marinaded and redolent of fresh curry leaves. The Goan had a lot of charred dried chillis, which we loved. The sag bhaji was perfect, and the keema naan fluffy and well-filled. Not knowing what it was, and in a spirit of exploration, one of our number asked for a king prawn Khazana. Had we known it would be sweeter and blander than a korma we'd have ordered something else. This is the problem. The website is dreadful. Leaving aside the grandiose claim of "the finest chef in the culinary universe", most styles of dish have at least a short indicator of what they contain. Khazana had none at all. You cannot just view the menu. The only way to see what's on offer is to go into ordering online. Of course, you can abort the order, but you should not have to do it that way. Any decent website should have a link or download of the menu. Worst of all, the telephone number on the website is completely wrong. Dial it and you get a "the number you have dialed has not been recognised" message. Food this good deserves better from its support systems.

I can't really comment on the atmosphere as I had a takeout, but the food was generally excellent with a wide menu to choose from. Everything was hot, tasty and well spiced and the amount of meat was generous. The 'green salad' was a bit weird (Lemon slices, lettuce, mange tout and a handful of loose peas with some onion) but everything else was great. They also had the food ready and waiting for collection exactly when they said they would. I'll definitely use them again - I'd give 4.5 stars if it l would let me

A beautiful indian restaurant, very tasty food. Love the idea of sharer starter for 2. Although popadums did not taste freshly cooked, they were crispy. The pickles that come with could have done with more chopped onion, their version had small pieces carrot, which was lovely and the smooth mango chutney had cumin lovely change to it x We chose 2 mains and a mix of side dishes, all very tasty. Worth noting, get there as close to opening as possible, that way the little car park (west street car park) not so full. No space by time we came out tho. Highly recommended. Clean, well decorated. Customer service brilliant. Even the toilets were nice. Shame 3 hours away from where I live. Well worth the visit. Thank you x

I must admit that I am not always the biggest fan of Indian curry but this place blew me away. I had what they call the railway lamb, not the most appetising name I know, but it was a very very good curry. The service was good and the décor was very nice but the food is definitely the star of the show here, as it should be in my opinion. Despite there being 10 of us they still came around at the end of the meal and offered everyone a complimentary port/sherry/Tia Maria and other options, which I thought was a great touch and a lovely way to finish the meal.

Tucked away in a residential area, we booked a table for two on a Friday night As soon as you enter the restaurant it, you sense the professionalism behind it. The decor is an interesting blend of old and new, with well spaced tables in all the sections including two round tables for six people. I always ask which way they cook a Sag Paneer, and was given a detailed description, which was informative and proved to be a good choice. Post poppadoms, we sjared a starter for one and a garlic king prawn, all of which were delicious/exceptional. Great to see a Chicken Tikka Ceylon on the menu and a Railway Lamb. We added a Tarka Dall, rice, and a Peshwari Naan. I eat a lot of Indian food, and have run curry clubs for over 20 years. This was one of the best I've been to in a long time. I wish they would take over the currently closed Malika in Brighton Marina as an additional outlet...... other than I would probably put on even more weight if it was my local! A great team of people to be with, we will be back very soon.

Came with a group of people and had a borderline nightmarish service experience. The food was alright, although a little bland and the portions were certainly smaller. The waiter pushed starters on us without mentioning it wasn’t complementary, which ended up costing £14. He was hostile when we asked questions about the food, and made sure to add snark remarks in between orders. After the meal when a member asked for separate check, the waiter sarcastically remarked “no we don’t offer those, this is not a McDonald’s.” Our group was forced to calculate our individual payments as the restaurant refused to simply allow us to go down the receipt and pay for what we ordered (as every other restaurant does). Overall, the food was mediocre but the service was some of the worst I’ve ever experienced.

The service was horrendous. The waiter inconvenienced us by having my party calculate our own bills and refused to help us pay. In addition, the server insulted one of the guests when he asked to pay separately saying “you can’t do that, this place isn’t a McDonald’s”. The waiter was borderline hostile and would not answer simple questions about the menu. In the end of the day, the food was okay abit on the bland side.

First time trying the new Blue India for a takeaway and generally we would say that so far it’s the best Indian offering in Lewes. Much more of the menu to try but on our first try the balance of flavour was good, the most authentic in Lewes. Great mix of subtle spices on the shashlick options and the dahl was an authentic, loose consistency, not too salty. The peshwari naan was also better than most. Overall, we will be going again and to eat in next time, something we wouldn’t do at other Lewes Indian restaurants.

A sad loss early inteh pndemic was teh Spice Merchant restaurant. Blue India, which opened yeserday, appears to be a development of that, using a simiilar range of specials, and names of dshes (GUrkha's Revenge for a Nepali chicken dish). It seems to bes one of a chain across the South of England. Having had several pretty mediocre Indians froother places since SM closed, our visit was for a take-away, to check out whether the food is as good as it used to be. If anything, it's even better. The Garlic chilli king prawn starter was three langoustines in a spicy chilli oil , very fresh flavours and absolutely perfectly cooked. I asked for the Gurkha's Revenge chicken to be extra hot. It could have been hotter - next time I'll ask for phall heat - but it was very good, with the heat provided, as SM did in its heighday, by additional fresh green chillis. not just cayenne-style powder. Th chicken was not tikka as SM used to do it, but larger pieces, cooked to perfect succulence, and the sauce was highly aromatic, with (I think) a fair bit of black cardomom. All in all, a great start and we'll be coming back again, quite often!

I don’t like writing negative reviews. I really don’t. But this place was a bit meh. Nothing was ‘bad’ but nothing was particularly good either. The service was good and generally attentive but the food was disappointing and presentation was distinctly lacking. There were 2 full menus and perhaps that’s the problem - they do a lot of dishes but none of them particularly well?
