Always a great visit when here with a good valiety of beers, lagers, wheat beers etc on sale. Lovely friendly staff always willing to help, well done Gals and Guys.

Reviews state food was amazing breakfast was good but arrived to find out that food is no longer available. However room was large clean and comfortable but very upset that food not available. And nothing availsble near to hotel

We were staying at the local Sprowston Manor Hotel and the menu didn’t offer great choice so we headed to the Blue Boar and we thought the food was great, I had the chicken curry which tasted fantastic and looked as good as it tasted, my parter only had good comments about the hunters chicken, we were also tempted by the desserts which at £4.95 were amazing value, the only disappointment was that we weren’t staying longer as we would have been back, friendly staff very attentive, and great value for money

We took my 88 year old mum for a birthday treat. What a disappointment. The menu was limited. It was over priced. £14 for a cheeseburger, £20 for rump steak. As for the the dessert, brownie with ice cream £6..there wasn't even one normal scoop of ice cream, just half a dessert spoon. We will not go again.

We were a party of 4 couples that was travelling from Plymouth to Norwich for a family celebration. We was told to book the Blue Boar as it was quite close to the venue for the party. We never knew what we was expecting but all I can say what a fantastic stay we had there. As soon as we got there we was greeted by a lovely girl called Sarah who couldn’t do enough to settle us in and get us checked in promptly. Sarah took us to our rooms which were very clean and comfortable. Once we unpacked we went down to bar and restaurant. Once again we was really looked after by the manager Denise and her staff. And when I mentioned where we could go for breakfast the following day as the pub didn’t provide breakfast .Sarah went and spoke to their chef who said as it was a bit late when we arrived and never had any breakfast stuff in but if we could manage to find somewhere for Saturday he would make sure he would do a full English for all 8 of us before we left on the Sunday. We had food in the restaurant on the Friday evening which was top quality especially that there was 19 of us in the party for food. Just want to say that when we visit Norwich again we will definitely try and book Blue Boar again. I highly recommend the venue for friendliness of staff an excellent chef Thank you to you all at the Blue Boar for a fantastic weekend

Had lunch with a friend here last week. We both chose sandwiches, “served with salad and crisps ”. The sandwich was pleasant, the salad” was minimal, just a few leaves, a very finely diced tomato and a small pot of crisps. The plate was £8.50, my friend and I shared a portion of chips which was a further £4. The chips were ok, nothing special. We felt it was expensive for a sandwich and a big increase on their advertised online menu (panini including chips was £8). With a diet soda, my colleague had a coffee and our bill was over £30… The service was good, restaurant was quiet but prices need adjusting, not much choice for a vegetarians either….

Had a family meal here. Having not been here for a while, I decided to choose the Blue Boar, as the meals have always been of a good quality and size, so expected the same this time. 3 of us ordered the brisket from the specials board (£14). The said brisket was almost inedible, and like chewing rubber. Had the table check come after I tried the meat I may well have sent it back, though, having already waited nearly an hour for the food, I was pretty hungry!. The other meals were fine, though, so a bit of a 50/50 night when it came to the food.

A local for me & my boyfriend, we love this place. Plenty of choice for seating, nice outside area for the summertime. Good music & lovely friendly staff + great food & drinks

Atmosphere was lovely and a very attentive waitress; Emily, could not fault the service. Drinks were lovely, food was okay, but overpriced for the quality. I ordered a roasted vegetable, pesto and hallumi panini - pathetic excuse of a panini hardly any variety of roasted vegetables in it. I doubt we will return for food. Drinks were perfect, and service was lovely and nice seating. Well done to FOH, shame on kitchen skills.

Came in here as the hotel where we were staying had no bar open until 6pm. Nice choice of real ales, all good hic, selection of decent wines.

Food was excellent and “Keith’s kitchen” mate your food was lush ! Waiting was not long, clean tidy and great for kids. Bar staff and waitress was lovely and accommodating! Dessert if your brave try the giant donut it is the side of the dinner plate comes with chocolate sauce, raspberry sauce and clotted cream.

We were staying near by at a local hotel and walked down to this pub for some dinner. The restaurant was busy but luckily managed to squeeze in a table for us. The food on offer was a short menu but in reality perfect as it was home made food, stylish and different from your usual pub menu choices. Throughly enjoyed the meal and would recommend. We have a small baby with us and as we were leaving the evening music started to begin which sounded good but unfortunately our lives have changed with a tiny baby so time for us to head home! Visited blue boar for dinner with family and friends there was 21 of us, the menu was not the one we had previously had, so we asked if it was possible to change. The bar manager Denise was absolutely fantastic, she spoke to the chef and arranged additions to the menu. Service was excellent especially considering the number in our group. Would definitely recommend.

I come here for dinner all the time and this is my local place to drink and eat and but Simon who works here is always working under pressure and still provides amazing service, he really is the core of a great team :) can’t recommend this place enough! Simon is a diamond of a man !!

I have eaten here previously a couple of times around a year ago and it was just basic pub grub so when my friends suggested meeting here again as its central for us all I wasn't expecting much. Upon arrival car park was pretty full and all the socially distanced tables were full. The interior has obviously had a makeover too as it looks great. We sat at our table and the server took our orders and was very attentive ensuring we had plenty of drinks etc and assisting my fussy friend in her menu choice. We did wait a while for the food but as I said it was busy so thats understandable and we had a chance to talk. When the food came out my eyes nearly popped out of my head at the beautiful presentation and portion size and I could wait to dig in...I was not disappointed! I had slow cooked beef brisket chilli topped with sour cream and smashed avocado and it was probably the best chilli I have ever eaten in a restaurant...beautiful flavours and fresh ingredients. I was pretty full but thought I'd better give the dessert menu a look and went for the toffee apple crumble with crunchie ice cream as it sounded lovely and autumnal....again the presentation was amazing and it was divine, I loved the apple crisp it was a lovely finishing touch. It was very reasonable too I paid £20 for those 2 courses and they were worth every penny. I have told all my friends and relations how great it was and I will definitely be returning very soon unless we go into lockdown again. I understand there is a new chef...well done you have exceeded my expectations and converted me. Also well done to the serving staff for being well trained, polite and knowledgeable about the ingredients of the dishes on the menu. See you again soon Blue Boar.

Visitamos anoche para comer y no podríamos calificar este gastro pub lo suficiente. El servicio fue excepcional, el menú abundante y la comida increíble. Teníamos la panceta de cerdo, el salmón y el chorizo para empezar y estaban tan llenos de sabor y los platos principales eran tan buenos. Merecidamente nos lo recomendó el personal del hotel donde nos estábamos quedando. No es elegante, pero tiene un ambiente agradable y raciones muy generosas de buena comida. El menú principal es un poco básico, pero no se deje engañar por eso: los mejores platos están en uno de los tableros de "especiales" y hay una excelente variedad. El servicio fue bueno y amable también. El hecho de que volviéramos en una segunda noche (y hubiéramos vuelto en una tercera si no nos hubiéramos ido demasiado tarde para asegurar una reserva) dice mucho de la vista del lugar.

A great meal as always at The Blue Boar. A very quiet feel with the covid rules, but still enjoyable. The food was beyond pub quality, with great presentation and full of flavour. Doom bar on tap went down very nice!

Large Pub which I believe has been recently refurbished, very nice child friendly garden, good place to meet up with friends for a drink,-- on the evening I visited the Cook must have been having an off day as the food was pretty poor .

Just came in for the burger special. Omg what a deal. Two 8oz steak burgers for£15. Both burgers were beyond expectations every part of them was thought through and executed to such a high standard.

The meal was a family meal for 7 people. The food was standard nothing out of the ordinary. I would advise m people to look at the menu online. They did have about 3 specials but nothing special in my opinion.

Very friendly waitress and excellent service. Happy to chop and change the menu to suit my dieting needs. Only thing again the place in general was my husband wanted to watch football in the bar but there were children running around and making a lot of noise.so we just ate and left

Not been to The Blue Boar for a few months. They do not have the traditional meals any more. We prefer roast beef, roast lamb, steak and ale pie etc. I ordered roast chicken and my wife shepherds pie: both very nice meals. Probably will not go again with such a restrictrd menu to suit us.

Welcomed by Abbie on arrival and advised to sit where we felt comfortable. Perused over the Breakfast menu and had our order quickly taken. Two full plates of Full English delivered in good time and hot.Will be returning to sample the evening food on offer. We had a good chat with the owner upon paying our bill. Looking forward to returning soon.

We stayed Friday 3rd August had a very enjoyable evening with friends that live locally The service was very good and the staff were very friendly. Our room was lovely and very clean with a large en-suite bathroom We will definitely be coming back

Solía venir a este pub todo el tiempo, ya que siempre podía contar con buena comida y muchas opciones de alcohol, pero vine aquí el martes por la noche y estoy muy decepcionado. Cuando llegué allí y traté de pedir algunas bebidas para mí y mi familia de 6 para el cumpleaños de mi madre, tenía muchas opciones, ya que tenían alcohol limitado, todo lo que queríamos era 1 o 2 botellas de rosa dulce y no había ninguna. izquierda o cualquier sidra de barril! Viendo que ha sido un día tan caluroso, ¡una buena pinta de sidra fría hubiera sido perfecta! ¡Espero que lo solucionen para el futuro ya que realmente disfrutamos el venir aquí ya que es un pub encantador!

Una vfm 33 - 50 me trajo a Shiraz, una princesa sin prisa, una pinta de Ghostship y dos grandes cenas de asados. Lo mejor aquí y por eso lo usan todos los lugareños. Vale la pena reservar, ya que puede estar ocupado, pero eso es por una razón. Buen pub inglés honesto con una entrega sólida y sin tonterías de lujo - gracias a la mejor forma

Tuve la estela de mi papá aquí el sábado 27 de abril. El personal, especialmente Bev y Sarah, no podían hacer lo suficiente para asegurarnos de que nos cuidaran y nos proporcionaran suficiente comida, etc. Nada era un problema y teníamos la privacidad del conservatorio, que era una ventaja. un lugar encantador para disfrutar de una buena comida, un gran personal y un gran ambiente. Lovely extensive homemade menu for adults and children. They also have a outdoor play area for children with slides and swings.

Had a table for 5 booked in advance (recommended) a fixed menu with a good selection. To choose from but the waiter allowed us to mix the meal so had pan fried chicken Sunday roast my daughter had chicken and chips and so on so very helpful. Denise the manager is great a real asset to the Blue boar always helpful

was lucky to get a table due to being fully booked, pub was very busy when we arrived. Feared a long wait, but was shown to table and order taken within a few minutes andall courses came up in prompt manner.

We visited as we’d been given a voucher and weren’t really sure what to expect. Pleasantly surprised. Burgers delicious and staff friendly! Will be returning soon.

A regular customer here, but I've noticed some people who patronise the bar are less than desirable. This evening expecting a quiet meal we had to put up with a foul mouthed idiot shouting profanity for all to hear. Sad thing is he seemed to think he had a right to do it and the hard pressed bar staff seemed reluctant to intervene. It's a business folks and we'll be taking ours elsewhere from now on.

Went with friends for a Christmas Lunch and really enjoyed the food and the friendly atmosphere of the place in general. The staff were very efficient and helpful. Felt the overall experience was even better than last year. Good start to Christmas.

Six of us visited the Blue Boar for an evening of live music. We all had a fantastic night, great atmosphere, everyone very welcoming. Please put more of these nights on. 👍👍😊

Muy amable camarera que nada era demasiado para. Limpio y bien decorado. La comida se sirve rápidamente, no puedo decir que fue la mejor o la peor comida que hemos tenido, claramente promedio. El Conservatorio era encantador y cálido y había un amplio estacionamiento que era lo mejor de nuestra visita.

Visité este lugar en un día supuestamente "tranquilo" durante la semana. No habíamos reservado pero nos asignaron una mesa y nos sorprendió lo ocupada que estaba la zona del restaurante. Tuvimos un almuerzo de dos platos con bebidas y disfrutamos mucho de la experiencia. El bar y el personal de servicio eran todos muy amables y hay una gran variedad en el menú.

I booked a table for 7-30 in the conservatory as I had been before, and found the noise in the bar to loud. On arrival we were pointed in the general direction of the table and asked what we wanted to drink the whole group of us then read the menu and having decide what we wanted waited to place our order most had finished or drinks and had ordered a second (is this the policy to keep customers waiting so they order more drinks ), and waited , and waited, at 7-56 my daughter went to the waiter and asked if he could come and take our order if she had not we would have still been waiting at closing time.

A friendly pub with great food. Always busy so best to book but took a chance on not booking and the staff found us a table. A good choice of food on the menu and some nice wines. The staff friendly and there when you want them to be. They get 5 stars which is what they deserve. If they put a cheese board on the dessert menu I will give them another star ! Well done

Advise you book in advance it gets busy we had a variety of meals from a steak to lasagne and all delicious highly recommended

Having been a regular here all my life (that’s over 32 years) I find myself mortified that I am writing this review, but feel it necessary in light of a string of disappointing visits. I have previously reviewed and rightfully complimented the wonderful team here and the welcoming family vibe that the Blue Boar offers. This is still the case. However I am concerned and feel the need to highlight some of the misfortune that has occurred upon my family’s recent visits. Specifically the kitchen and the food.

Visited on a Saturday late lunch. Good service & warm welcome. Food was lovely, generous portions and tasty. We went for traditional pub food and were not disappointed. Will return.

Absolutely love the food here always amazing everything we have. It's now our local so me and my fiance come here quite a bit. The lady on the bar Sarah I think her name is with pink hair is so welcoming and friendly. Outside could do with a bit of a revamp but other then that I love this place.

We have used this pub for years, the staff and food were always faultless. Today we treated friends to lunch, big mistake. One ordered prawns with salad and NO sauce as he is unable to have sauce, it arrived with a heap of sauce on top, was sent back and problem sorted. Two people ordered chicken pies which were over cooked, and the crust could not be cut though at the bottom. I ordered beer battered cod and chips, what turned up was NOT cod, resembled a grey fish, stuck to mushy batter, i cut it open and had one mouthful then returned it. It was revolting, nothing fresh about It. Lady was lovely apologising all the time and removed cost of nearly £12 from bill. What a shame, I loved coming here but will have to find somewhere else now.

Visited for breakfast after finding my favourite cafe closed. Only one other table occupied. Waitress met me with a lovely welcome. Table nice and clean. Coffee served in small cup. Full English ordered. Unfortunately it looked overcooked and not very appertising but portion size and taste was good. I would return if only for the friendly welcome.

The meal was tasteless and not hot. Told the staff who apologised. When mentioned to manager he took just the price of the coffees of the bill,

This pub is fantastic. We live local and always use the blue boar. Food is great, Sunday roast and burgers are amazing. Play area great for kids and all reasonably priced.

Wow what a change in the food and service had a family meal here on Sunday we had a Sunday roast which is much improved and u get stuffing with Ur roast know which tastes lovely also had a duck platter which is full of flavour and had a lasenge which was one of the best lasenges I've had will definitely be back again and will recommend to all my freinds and family

Was struggling to give my son some medicine as he was happy playing in their great garden when a member of staff asked me if he was allowed sweets. I said yes and she told him if he had his medicine then she would get him some sweets. As you can guess, medicine went down and she took him to pick what sweets he wanted. Very impressed and great full. Food was also great. Definitely will visit more often

Had a lovely Sunday roast sat in the lovely beer garden, with a great menu and nice meat and vegetarian options available. Third visit here for dinner and can’t fault it. Our waitress Sarah was really smiley and friendly oh and lovely. Lots of tables in the nice big beer garden. Great venue and food I recommend

Came here for birthday meal with family. Convenient and local and thats probably why it still operates as its food is second rate. One person descibed her lasagne as a butter dish with no herbs or flavour. My duck platter was less than impressive more like sloppy duck and some rough cut veg done by a 5 year old. Also for the price i would expect better £11.50 for main dish of this quality is steep. Its a shame really as this pub has alot going foe it but food is going down hill.

Took my Mum for lunch on a recent visit... very disappointed. I believe this pub has new management. Menu presented in sticky plastic folder. Poor selection. Everything is served large with pile's if frozen chips. Seats in restaurant had tears in them. Prices are too expensive. Menu needs a re think. Will not be rushing back again.

I visited on the weekend to watch the football and it was a cracking day. Sadly one of the bar staff was rude to the guy next to me at half time. While asking to be served was greated with "I'm not standing here scratching my a*se am I?!?!" Not banter just very unpleasant. On a previous visit the same woman demanded another customer "hurry up I don't care who I serve just bloody order." Working with the public isn't for everybody, if you can't cope I suggest you find a different occupation. I won't be returning.

went there for an evening meal with my partner - waiting staff adequate, but food very poor (tasteless onion rings swimming in grease, soup just about warm, and jacket potatoes obviously cooked previously and reheated in a microwave). Added to that, 3 food items we wanted to order were "off" that evening, All very disappointing and dispiriting (and not cheap either!) . You may fare better, but I wouldn't bet on it !!!!!.

I often visit the blue boar as it it so close to where I live and the food is amazing every time. I usually op for the Joker burger which comes with bacon, sautéed onions and Stilton on top along side a very generous portion of chunky chips and coleslaw (I always ask for a extra side of coleslaw as it’s delicious). They offer so many food and drink options all at very competitive prices, the atmosphere is always great and it seems to be very popular with locals.

Wanted to say what a great time we had with the kids here over the bank holiday weekend. We were staying locally and visited it twice over the weekend..we just couldn't get enough!!

Came for a meal to celebrate a friends 50th birthday. We were a large group and were seated in the lovely conservatory. The waitress was so friendly & helpful. Our drinks arrived quickly to our table all evening. The food was delicious & the portions large. Couldn’t fault the evening. Thank you to everyone who works there for making the whole evening a night to remember. Will definitely be visiting the Blue Boar again soon

Lovely birthday meal on the weekend with my family and not only was the food great but the service was amazing... nothing was to much trouble... everyone was friendly and helpful just couldn’t thank the staff enough for making my evening special.

Came here on the bank holiday weekend with my partner and our baby, lovely family friendly pub! Atmosphere was great with bbq and food was great and staff are always friendly! Would highly recommend for sunny days in the garden!

I come here for a beef burger meal on a regular basis, usually very good but sometimes the service can be questionable. Big portions and the food always tastes really nice and of good quality.

Due to nice weather, Royal Wedding and FA Cup final was busy as expected, but table we booked was nice, was in the Conservatory. Only appeared to be two people waiting on the tables, all started well, waitress took drink order and was back within a few minutes, then placed food order, starters arrived in about 10 minutes and both were very good, plates cleared after about 5 minutes, then had a 40 minute wait for the mains, they were ok but not the quality of the starters, did not warrant the long wait. Suggest more staff are on when weather forecast is good and major events taking place.

Waited 45 minutes for our food and still no sign of it, asked the waiter and it wasn’t even being cooked yet! We were only a table of 3. The restaurant didn’t even look busy. No warning when we ordered to say there would be a long wait and no apology as we were sat there waiting. The table beside us ordered after us and received their food before us (think this was because they knew the waiter). We had rang in advance to see if they had tables available- they should of said no if they were unable to get food served in good time. Staff weren’t friendly or helpful. We got up and left after 50 minutes when the staff couldn’t confirm when we would get our food. Won’t be visiting again.

Well what a lovely hotel pub and restaurant. We stayed for 3 nights the bed rooms are huge the beds are so comfortable. The rooms have everything you need iron ironing board hair dryer tv etc. Very family oriented and friendly. The staff couldn’t do enough for you and were so helpful and friendly made our visit very special. The whole place was clean and tidy and very welcoming. We will definitely return. Thank you all

This remains a regular on our list of places to visit so we returned again today. Two of the party had roasts and raved again about the beautiful meat and plentiful supply of vegetables.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Blue Boar Pub and again it has surpassed itself. Food excellent, Room clean and warm and breakfast excellent. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Thank you again

The company I work for have been using The Blue Boar for many years and always had an enjoyable stay. I recently stayed for the first time and wasn’t impressed and neither were my colleagues. My bathroom hadn’t been cleaned properly and smelt very strong...

We held a buffet for 22 friends in the Conservatory today- it was delicious and catering for so many proved outstanding. Must thank the Chefs - Rhys,Jonny, and Shaun. The bar staff Bev, Ethan,Terry and Rosie looked after everyone so well and our guests left...

We went for a Breakfast on Christmas Eve as my daughters birthday. The breakfasts were really good with a hot or cold drink. I had the sausage sandwich which was superb. It was a really nice atmosphere and hopefully be back again soon for some...

The Blue Boar has long been an excellent choice of eatery. It has an incredible home cooked menu, plenty of choices for children and a great selection behind the bar. The venue itself is spacious, with a superb garden out back, which hosts a top...

We ate lunch here today and were so impressed with it. Service and staff were great. We both had the Thor burger. Was delicious and huge too, yummy burger and the chips were excellent too. Food arrived quickly even though the place was fairly busy....

I had lunch there this week with my in laws and aunty & uncle. The staff were very friendly and there was some banter, which we like. The food was amazing and I will definitely be going again 👍🏽👍🏽 Thanks for great service!

We visited the pub at 6pm on the Bank Holiday Monday. Warm welcome and are table was reserved and ready. Good size menu with a focus on English Tapas, Burgers, Classics and Grill. Quick, tasty, good size portions. Personally the whole family was very happy...

I went to this pub restaurant with my elderly parents for a first time visit. As soon as we walked in the staff were very friendly, and quick to help. The place had a very positive atmosphere coming from both the staff and the customers. Very lively place.

After reading reviews I was expecting a great pub meal. Instead the food was acceptable but extremely average and the bill came to £87 for 4 adults and 2 small children. The garden was reallt big and the children had a great time in the aplay area outside but would not recommend or gor go again based on the service and food

While staying in Sprowston we tried several pub/restaurants in the area, this being one of them. I found the food to be of OK standard, nothing outstanding just average pub food. My belly pork was tough but the other meals were pleasant. Also if you are put in the conservatory to eat you end up shouting at each other as the noise levels can become very high very quickly, with very few people in it.

First time we had been here for about a year for an evening meal, we had heard that the pub was under new ownership so we thought it was worth a try. Very pleased we did, the new menu had a range of new burgers so all four of us tried a different one. All were excellent and the crunchy chunky chips that accomplices the meals were good too. Would definitely recommend.

Another great meal at this restaurant I just can't fault it. Staff great friendly and very helpful. And the food great value hot and lots of it. The chips are just great.

Popped in yesturday afternoon for a bite to eat and a drink the lady at the bar was very friendly and polite she took our food order which we both opted for burgers a regular cheeseburger and a batman burger both came with coleslaw and chips both meals were ok the chips were crispy and hot the burgers we found were very dry and bland in taste probably due to be overcooked and the coleslaw was a little runny and tasteless we both agreed the pub is very nice with an outdoor area and friendly staff and the food needs more care and passion i think

Each year when we visit Norwich, we always make a family visit to The Blue Boar. It's conveniently situated close to where we stay and near to family, so it makes a good place to take the children and take a meal.This is just good plain pub grub. It was last year and still is. It hasn't changed, other than maybe some of the items on the menu, service is friendly and efficient, and nobody minds if the children play in the safe play area whilst adults eat or chat.There is a good range of items including a good children's menu. A good family pub serving good pub grub.

The Blue Boar has changed ownership so we went again for Sunday lunch to see how it compared and wow!The food is better than ever and we had roasts which were phenomenal. Forget the carveries get a well cooked roast like this with succulent lamb (the beef and turkey were just as good) roast potatoes a perfect yorkshire, and did I count EIGHT other vegetables. It was phenomenal with lovely gravy too and better value than the carveries too at £11-95.The only slight criticism was the move of their drinks supplier to Adnams which reduced the choice a bit but we went for the food.

We had a lovely meal for a birthday surprise with friends and family the food was delicious hot and tasty the waiters were welcoming and friendly.

There were 10 of us . Was greeted very warmly and shown to our table . We had a mixture of starters. Hot wings , soup of the day ,salmon and sticky chicken strips . The soup was chunky veg . The chunky veg was very chunky and had a nice taste , the salmon was ok. The salmon didn't have a lot of taste but it was still edible . The sticky chicken had a really nice taste but the hot wings were FANTASTIC . They were the best wings I've had since moving to this country 21 years ago. They were fried just right with a hot but scrummy sauce on them . Most of us had the 8oz steak and it was nice but nothing special but I would order it again . The burgers were nice and juicy and had a great taste . Only ordered 2 puddings . 1 was orange treacle tart . It was ok , the orange taste wasnt overly powering but it was sickly and the choc mint sundae was really nice . Just minty enough. The staff were all really lovely and we had a laugh with them . Overall it was a nice evening with decent food at a good price .
