Blockley Village Shop & Cafe in Cotswold

Our welcome was a little ‘Luke warm’ as the staff both looked at one another, as though reluctant to be the one to serve us! The young lady who took us up to our table with the menus was quite sullen and we found that quite disconcerting! We asked for clarity with the menu and the young man serving us was very polite and engaging. The meal was sublime and there are many descriptors that I could use, but I’ll stick with that one. The wine was perfectly chilled and very flattering. We were given the appropriate attention and neither felt rushed or neglected and whiled away almost 3 hours. We were very happy with the choice of restaurant for the evening and were really impressed with the Menu and the outcome of our selections. Thank you. We would definitely recommend your restaurant for its food and ambience and hospitality shown by the very attentive waiter.

A wonderful breakfast containing freshly cooked, locally sourced ingredients. Top coffee and friendly service. Limited parking nearby but worth a stroll.

Apparently a small supermarket, but in reality it is extremely well stocked: in fact you can find all the basic necessities, but also local products, various types of alcohol and even some souvenirs. The availability of Father Brown souvenirs (postcards, mugs, tote bags, etc.) is not bad.

Following a recent negative review of a Cotswold ‘Full English’ Breakfast venue, I have been asked where I believe serves the best one. First of all, I believe choice is hugely important to reflect the global definition of ‘breakfast’, an English, Irish, Scottish or Welsh one doesn’t do it for all nations in the morning meal groove. This has great choice and variation, extending into some spicier brunch choices, coffees too seem superior here. Added to which the ‘divine’ location of Blockley, literally … Father Brown , I have sinned as the breakfast is far too good, possibly the best in The Cotswolds!

Excellent location in the middle of this beautiful village. The food was good (outstanding scones). It was very busy and I think the staff were under too much pressure. Some of the items on the menu were overpriced.

the cafe served lovely food for lunch staff friendly and attentive BUT I needed the disabled toilet urgently. the door was blocked with a delivery goods trolley which i managed to move and used my key to enter. inside someone used the space too store chairs . i managed too use the toilet even though the light kept going out every 30 seconds then i had to reach for the stack of loo rolls on the stacked chairs as none where available within reach and then no soap available or dryer. and when i went to open the door someone had pushed the delivery trolley back against the door, very bad

We were staying in the area for a couple of days and staying close by. We had a lovely lunch outside (a rare sunny day!), and the food certainly was fresh and prepared to order - delicious!!

Spectacular Michelin-esque in the country. What an amazing find. This very small multipurpose small town eatery serves a price fixed (45 pounds) dinner with 3 choices that rotate monthly. The food was amazing in presentation and flavor. This meal in London would be twice the price. The young servers were delightful. The room and tables were nice but not on par with the amazing food for dinner. However, It was more than acceptable when you understand what an amazing treat this is in such a small but delightful village. Nice wine choices as well. These chefs have done amazing work bringing an incredible culinary treat to Blockley. If you like fine contemporary and creative food get to the Blockley Cafe.

The shop was fairly standard, the cafe which appeared attached was really overpriced. They were still doing a roaring trade but at prices you would expect in a nice gastro pub, not prices you would expect to pay in a cafe, especially given that the offering was no different to any other country Cafe.

Just left - visited Saturday 18th November. …..Absolutely awful; service awful; food awful. My partner took me here to start our date day together as we have been busy recently. Told to take a seat and that someone would clear the table and bring menu. Sat for 15-20mins and two waiters (one young girl and one young guy) just stood around the till area looking miserable. We asked for menus and the girl came over and tried to take our order, but we hadn’t even got the menus to be able to order and had not even ordered drinks. She gave us the menus and said she would give us a minute. She went back and just stood by the till looking miserable. In the end we went back up to order because we waited a further 15 minutes upon receiving menus. We also moved upstairs in the end as people waiting for takeaway coffees were just crowding around the table and those waiting for a table just kept staring at us waiting for us to go. Really overwhelming and intimidating. We moved upstairs and food came after a while . Pancakes were tiny and our poached eggs were uncooked but by then we just wanted to leave . The couple next to us had to reorder their breakfast as they had been waiting for ages and the girl who took the order had not put it through correctly the first time. I believe they got free coffees as an apology. In all, a poor experience and one that I do not want to relive. It seems that the staff need more training and need to use their initiative a little better to improve service in the future . They were just stood waiting to be directed and was shocking , really. Awful.

I am reluctant to leave a review because I don't want too many people knowing about this place. Whether it is for breakfast, lunch or dinner - both the food and the service is always fantastic. One of the hidden gems of the Cotswolds.

What a lovely place this is. We stayed in Blockley for a week and had breakfast here every day. We had something different each day and would be hard pressed to come up with a favourite. Staff wonderful, surroundings beautiful what more could you ask for?

Lovely experience at Blockley Cafe. The menu was perfect for lunch, not too extensive and the food was so beautifully presented. Taste was perfect. Plus the incredibly polite, helpful and friendly staff. Can’t believe it’s down the road and this was my first time! I have to say that it runs rings around my usual haunts..

So so highly recommend this restaurant! We had breakfast and dinner here during our 3 day stay in Bloclkey, and would have been there for lunch one of the days if we could have swung it! The setting is deceptively simple, but the food is sophisticated without being fussy--just delicious. The flat rate £45 dinner has 5 courses (three of which you need to make a choice from a list of three options). The menu focuses on local seasonal foods and changes every four weeks. I don't know if this is standard, but the night we dined there, their three options for both starter and main were poultry, fish and vegetarian options (interestingly, and appreciated, that there wasn't a meat option). We actually got to sample everything (because we were 6 close friends), and I have to hand it to them, EVERYTHING was incredible!

This is a lovely Cafe in the village of Blockley. We had coffeeand fresh tea cakes which were lovely. The setting is great just by the church gates. Well worth a visit and the setting for the TV show Father Brown.

My best friend and I stayed in Blockley for a full week and were lucky enough to have this cafe just on the other side of the pond from the house we were staying in! We had lunch, tea, and dinner here on several occasions and could not be more impressed with every aspect of this cafe. The service was amazing, the food was second to none, and everything we had was excellent. The highlight of our week was their Friday night prix-fix, 5-course dinner. I have eaten in many fine restaurants around the world, and this meal could hold it's own against any of them. It was simply superb. At 45 GBP, the price was more than fair. The quality and creativity of the menu offerings was outstanding. Excellent wine selection. Chocolate mousse for dessert was exceptional. I could go on and on about how good this meal was. You should go try it for yourself. I can't recommend this place more highly.

My wife and I visited the Blockley Cafe for a lunchtime snack and was pleasantly surprised by what we got. I looked at the menu and thought nothing here that I fancy but after a lot of soul searching we decided on a snack and hoped for the best. When we got our choice it was delicious and well worth the wait. The staff were a little unhelpful at first, but “oh my god” when we got our choice it was absolutely delicious.. We will go back and I would say that the chief is a marvel and the place is really nice for a midday snack or even indeed something more substantial.

Excellent Village Shop You are not going to find Tesco prices here, but if you want to buy at Tesco’s prices, go to Tesco’s Opened in 2007 with the help of fundraising and lottery money Run by the BCA (Blockley Co-operative Association) which manages and maintains the building (including the cafe portion of the building) This building (shop and cafe) is the heart of the village and buzzes all day with comings and goings of the residents and visitors Cash back up to £50 available and a great selection of Salty Snacks Daily Papers through the door and in the left hand corner Opposite the shop is ‘Paxton House’ where Patton & Eisenhower drew up plans for the Normandy Invasion

Pleasant visit taking my elderly mum out for afternoon tea and scones. Friendly service, huge scones (we shared one and was quite enough), clotted cream, thankfully, and fruit jam, generous pot of tea. Clean loo available and good little produce shop next door. We sat outside before taking a short walk around the village. Very pleasant and mum enjoyed a change of scenery.

Wonderful place to eat. We have enjoyed Lunch on two occasions to date and can honestly say the food is exceptionally delicious. We have thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the cakes we bought home. Visiting our friend who lives in the village, we came here again for coffee and cake. Service is very friendly. We had their cruffins and they were so nice! Coffee good too. On leaving I didn’t think £16 was quite expensive for 2 cakes and 2 coffees but I’m assuming that must have included service. But was very happy with everything so I’d still give it 5*. I believe they also do food in the evenings and locals are very happy with the food.
