Awful - avoid at ALL cost! Came for a drink here and decided to stay for a meal in the restaurant. Mistake number 1. 5 of us seemed to be an issue in a half empty restaurant. My sister ordered a mushroom ravioli for starter(from the vegetarian menu) they then came back to stay they had swapped the mushroom ravioli for LAMB RAGU. FOR A VEGETARIAN. Starters took 40 mins to arrive, one didn’t arrive with the other 4 (my mum being polite told us to eat ours whilst she waited for hers) I was done with mine before my mums arrived, no apology for the wait. Then took a while to clear our starters and a further wait for our mains. If it wasn’t bad so far… it gets worse. We ordered a bottle of wine for the table which the bartender brought over, poured our wine and then left them on the other end of the table (5 of us on a table for 8) Mains arrived; fish and chips, a mountain of over cooked poor quality frozen chips. Chicken and chips, again shop bought chips and burnt dry chicken. And the worst of all; the mushroom tagliatelle, inedible. Disgustingly oily and overpowering herby. Priced at £17.99 but then an additional £8 for 3 slices of dry chicken. No check backs on the food and no one came to offer desserts, not that we would have had them, we would however have asked for the bill to the table. No we had to find the manager who told us we’d have to go over to the till if we wanted to pay the bill. The hotel itself is run down and tired looking. Toilets weren’t pleasant. Definitely not 4 start. Overall, poor service and poor food in a dated setting with a high price tag. Avoid

During our stay at Bryn Meadows, we dined twice at Bas Restaurant. Our first experience was for a late afternoon snack, where unfortunately, the service left much to be desired. We encountered aggression and condescension from one server who seemed to hold a managerial position. Despite this, we enjoyed the flavorful Black Bomber Welsh Rarebit Cheese Bake and ordered cappuccinos to warm up after a rainy hike. Returning for dinner at 7:30pm, we found the restaurant quiet. Our server, although seemingly new and possibly burdened by the manager's demands. It was evident that she lacked proper training but showed resilience in her efforts. We appreciated her dedication and support throughout the meal. The food presented a mixed bag of experiences. My spouse enjoyed the Homemade Buttermilk Chicken Burger, praising its rich flavor. However, my order of Marinated Pembrokeshire Chilli, Garlic, and Ginger Butterfly Chicken fell short of expectations. Despite the promising description, the dish lacked the expected depth of flavor.

Attended here for a friends baby shower. We booked afternoon tea. It was noted on booking prior to arrival that I was vegan and other guests were celiac and pescatarian (plenty of notice given). Server confirmed this before bringing out the afternoon tea. My ‘vegan’ afternoon tea had ham sandwiches on, server took back to chef who confirmed it was in-fact ham, I am shocked how that could go unnoticed. If others did not have the same sandwiches I could have eaten this thinking it was ‘fake meat’ and had an allergic reaction. I was given cucumber and tomato sandwiches as a replacement. I have had many vegan afternoon tea’s and to give a salad sandwich as an option is actually insulting. I also asked the server for oat milk 5 times and told it was coming, it didn’t arrive. Wasn’t offered an apology or even a discount on the bill. Infact it was a price increase on the price advertised. Also take note, they do not accept cash! Very disappointed, would not recommend

A very poor attempt at an afternoon tea. Starting with the sandwich selection was cucumber, egg mayo, chicken mayo and Branstons with cheese. The amount of filling was very little and the cucumber was cut as thin as a slice of paper. Cucumber alone seems quite cheap as you would usually see it paired with another high quality ingredient such as salmon. Also having two mayo options for sandwiches seems lazy as there are plenty of other options e.g. coronation chicken that could have been used. Along with a miniature sausage roll you were served a miniature pastry made of Branstons and cheddar. Again something which is an acquired taste has been used multiple times. At the end you were served a singular scone OR hot cross bun and unfortunately all the scones contained currants. The waiter kindly checked to see if there were any plain scones and there were not. Many people don’t like dried fruit and while you are never able to please everyone, there was no attempt to ensure that different tastes are catered to. The sweets were a cupcake, small slice of carrot cake and a chocolate-salted caramel tart. These were actually enjoyable. Overall, it seemed lacking in inspiration and execution. However, beautiful views from the restaurant and the staff were very friendly. In fairness, it is only £26, however, it would be better for them to perhaps increase the price and have some resemblance of quality.

Very disappointing! Visited for Sunday lunch as a family and what can I say it was not good. We ordered four starters, the pancake rolls were soggy, served on wilted lettuce which was brown on the ends, the prawn cocktail was laughable and I had pate which was served with stale bread. One starter arrived around 12 minutes after everyone had finished which was awful. The Sunday lunch was ok but the veg came with cauliflower cheese (my daughter in law has an allergy) we had to ask for new veg for her. Dinner was served with sprouts (not in season) morgue tout which was awful and a mashed something which we couldn’t make out. No extra gravy was given! I spoke to the server who said she would speak to the chef and manager and that was the last we heard, no apologies or discounts. Shocking!!!! AVOID

We had both dinner and breakfast in Blas, as part of a spa package for a friends birthday. Blas used to be lovely, but our experiences last night and this morning were awful. We had to wait 45 mins to be told that the starters we had ordered were unavailable. Instead, we had garlic ciabatta, which was like eating cardboard. Then the mains were served... Veggie chilli was some beans in orange water. It had either been watered down or we had the dregs from the pot. The steak was awful - chewy and tasteless. Not what you would expect for £30! The service was almost as bad as the food. The waitress clearly did all she could to avoid us after serving our meal was served. The food at breakfast was also pretty awful - though not quite as bad as the dinner. The wait staff at breakfast were much better though and were actually pretty pleasant. It's really sad to see this once lovely restaurant decline so badly. We wont be returning.

Our hotel package included 2 nights dinner (£25 per person each night), bed and breakfast. Saturday night - wife ordered the chicken burger which advised came with fries, but was served with chunky chips (she enjoyed the burger). I ordered rabbit and veg spring rolls which were bland but ok, and the Sirloin medium rare and requested fries, but was served medium well done with chunky chips so sent it back (and requested to be more on the rare side to make it easier for the kitchen). It was cooked again medium well done so sent it back and decided to just move onto dessert. Had the chocolate melody which was rubbish, didn’t eat it. Sunday night - wife played safe and ordered chicken burger again, this time it was actually served with fries. I ordered the veg soup for starters which was nice, and the chicken Balti. The rice was very soggy and appeared to be boil in the bag, the curry was very bland so didn’t eat it. I had a cooked breakfast both mornings, again very bland and tasted of low quality. Can honestly say the best part was the baked beans. On a final note, during check out the hotel acknowledged the issues and took £60 off our final bill. Appreciated the gesture but needless to say we have no intentions to return to the restaurant.

We booked a graduation celebratory meal for two cousins, a party total of 14 people. The setting of the resteraunt has amazing views and overlooks the golf course, unfortunately we were seated as a group in the corner of the resteraunt away from the windows with half the group staring at a blank wall and the other half staring at a fire place, it was OK but with the restaraunt empty, it would have been lovely to have been seated in the conservatory area with the amazing views. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service was great. The food wasn't great its very over priced for what you actually get, e.g chicken skewers £25 , this consisted of 2 skewers on a plate with a small bowl of spicey cous cous (zero spice on it). The team brought in some lovely complimentary deserts for the graduates which was a very nice touch. So top marks for the front of house , the cost of the food and variety needs to be addressed, the quality for what you pay is poor. Wouldn't use again based on this.

I visited with my grandmother who is 95. The staff were fantastic; very welcoming and equally great service. The reason for the good rating is: • too expensive for what you get. Beef was almost £25 which was a lot to pay. It was very good but little things such as supplying a small jug of gravy etc. would have made it reach than £25 mark. • regrettably, my bread was all burnt - a really simply thing, but not great. As a former waiter, I would’ve said something to the chef before taking the food. • temperature: it was really quite cold with the air conditioning on. I was wearing jeans and a t shirt and was cold. My grandmother found it quite unbearable.

Went today for Sunday lunch (3 course £26.95p). Both starters were alright then came a Very large roast dinner of which we only managed half. The beef was tender and a generous helping of vegetables but they were sprinkled with different herbs.i.e parsley on carrots and cauliflower cheese, rosemary on the roast potatoes making too many tastes which did not compliment each other. The service was slow but we thought that was on purpose for a leisurely meal.....BUT the fact was that they had taken their eye off the ball after serving the main course. We waited a long time before the table was cleared and they asked for the dessert choice. We were told that we could have dessert as takeaway if we were too full.....which we decided to do... after ordering it took 25+ mins for the server to appear with the two desserts (lemon tart with cream and proprietors and chocolate sauce) on their plates....we reminded her that we ordered them to go and she said she would box them for us. Another 15 minutes later she came with the two boxes which l did not open and left the Restaurant. In arriving home ....one box contained a hard, dry brownie (which was not ordered) and the other four small profriteroles with no chocolate. Both desserts were inedible......whoever boxed them up needs more quality control training. This lunch turned out to be quite expensive for the 3 course lunch that turned out to be 2 courses.

Evening meal was overpriced, steak was inedible, meal was overcooked. No steak knives with the steak we had to ask for them.we ordered starters to share and were told that they would bring us side plates, we never received them. nobody came to see if our meals were ok. Food was missing from one meal, a member of the group ordered curry and was told she could have half chips and rice which never arrived. and breakfast order was completely messed up. We then waited ages for them to clear our plates, the customer service is shocking, we were going to order dessert but didn't want to risk after our main meals. Breakfast was overcooked. A member of the group ordered a Tia Maria coffee and couldn't taste any Tia Maria. We tried to order cocktails and were told they weren't available as they were planning Christmas cocktails. We were asked to leave the bar by 11:30 despite staying at the hotel.

My daughter and I were booked in for the Babymoon package at the hotel. We sadly found the food rather hit and miss. The restaurant area is lovely, with a lovely view over the golf course. Staff were all very friendly and accommodating. My first starter - Welsh rarebit on onion bread - sounded delicious however was a real let down. Not sue what the topping was but it didn’t taste of cheese. The salmon and noodle mains was delicious although didn’t look much. Daughter enjoyed the fish and chips. Our first breakfast was disappointing. Daughter had the full English breakfast which consisted of dry bacon and awful sausages. I had Welsh breakfast; the Glamorgan sausages were DELICIOUS (Credit where credit’s due) but everything else was rather poor. Beans were not Heinz, mushrooms were tasteless and the “laverbread and Oat cake” ball looked like a stuffing ball and tasted like cardboard. I’ve stayed in many hotels and this was probably the worst breakfast I’ve had. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where you have to pay a surcharge for alternative breakfast choices such as eggs benedict (£6 surcharge) and grapefruit with toasted Demerara sugar (£4!!). Day 2 we asked for Glamorgan sausages and they’d run out. I asked for scrambled egg - asking if it were fresh eggs and being told yes- and we received pale, obviously pasteurised, eggs which were tasteless. Day 2 evening meal was better - I enjoyed my chicken supreme on a bed of mash with pancetta and edamame beans and had a lovely dessert of pineapple with coconut sorbet (which I actually think was ice cream, not sorbet). Overall food was hit and miss. In my opinion the one thing you don’t scrimp on is a good breakfast. This is why I’m reviewing the hotel separately.

Sunday lunch 7 adults, 2 children ages 5 & 1.Booked for 1:30.We were shown into one of the events rooms where several tables were beautifully laid with white linen & chair covers. It was like it was laid out for a wedding. Very nice indeed. Only about 6 tables- presume it was because the Blas Restaurant was busy. Actually preferred it as there was lots of space. Music was playing, nice atmosphere. Menus on table didn’t show children’s meals so we asked for 2 child portions. STARTERS Fresh rolls on the table.Tap water with ice on the table. Some of us had, southern fried chicken with chili sauce, deep fried breaded Brie & chutney, both served with leavesAll very nicely presented, beautifully cooked & good portion sizes. MAINS We chose Beef, lamb & Turkey( one choice-not 3 meats) All mains come with Yorkshire’s & at least 4 roast potatoes, plus two slices parsnip. There was a generous amount of meat & a large Yorkshire. They forgot the stuffing on the turkey but it was quickly rectified. Cranberry sauce & horseradish was served on the plate in a tomato- bit unusual & not sure about a raw tomato on the plate-think I’d rather it served separately like the mint sauce was. Then out come 2 bowls of new potatoes in skin, veg -green cabbage, carrots & cauliflower cheese. Plus 2 bowls of creamed Swede. 2 jugs gravy. First time I’ve ever said it but it was too much & a lot went back. It’s certainly value for money! Fair to say it was all great! £16.95 two courses & £19.95 for 3.DESSERTS We chose Lemon tart & ice cream, fudge cake & ice cream , white chocolate cheesecake & ice cream . Again beautifully presented & good portions. Even the children had 3 scoops of good quality ice cream. All our food from starters to desserts was great. I was pleasantly surprised as previously it’s not been good. Will certainly go back. Robert H served us with his colleagues & they were all excellent, friendly & professional. Especially Robert. The only downside was we were overcharged. The bill came with different prices listed for the meals separately instead of 3 @ £16.95 & 4 @ £19.95 so it wasn’t until we got home I realised we were charged for 8 main meals. Children under 3 eat free according to the online menu & child meals are £10.95 for 2 courses but we were charged £15.95 for 2 meals & 2 desserts. We were overcharged nearly £17, not much & mistakes happen. If the bill had been laid out as per the offer for 2/3 courses we would of spotted it on the day. I’ve sent an e mail so hopefully they’ll respond soon. Won’t put me off going back as we all enjoyed the food & service .

My partner surprised me to a night at the hotel and the restaurant meal was included I was expecting to be a little bit of food on a plate but actually it was a lovely size, plenty to choose from, the taste was amazing and well presented. The staff were well dressed but didn't look very happy to be there. Had breakfast the next day we had the full welsh it was all great but expected nicer sausages and a fuller plate looked more like a child's portion but had a great selection of continental and the coffee tasted great :)

Average food, ok service. Great views. With a little more attention to detail could be good. Not ideal for business meeting lunch when surrounded by spa guests in robes and wet swimming costumes.......

Interesting well presented starters and chef adapted to gluten free needs. Had lamb for main course which was slightly rare - just as we like, and plenty of veg all cooked to perfection. Shame that the gluten free cheesecake was not available but at least staff understood cross-contamination issues.

we met up with family for a Xmas get together, what a big mistake. Waited for a while for starters that were ok. 2 of us ordered the chicken risotto & when the waitress brought it to us she had 2 salmon risotto, we explained we had ordered chicken so she took it away. Another 45 minutes went by & no chicken risotto. Our table was booked for 7pm, it was 9pm by this time, we were in no mind for enjoying our meal at this point as everyone else in our party had finished their mains, all except my brother in law who had ordered the £23 steak that he couldn't cut. We complained to the waitress about the steak, she took it away & asked if he would like another one, at this point my brother in law had had enough too & didn't want to eat anything else. There were other complaints about the steak, not just from our table. We were offered free drinks & desserts as an apology for the poor food & service. We would have all much preferred to have had a lovely family Xmas meal as planned. Some of our family had travelled nearly 2 hours to meet up. Very disappointing & would never eat here again. I don't enjoy giving bad reviews but this is one of the worse places I've ever been for food.

7 family members visited for an evening meal. 2 main meals were delivered incorrectly, sent back and took so long to reappear that it was embarrassing. One steak completely inedible. Manager admitted they had issues with the steak from other diners, so why serve it up in the first place?

Firstly they couldn't find our reservation so we waited in the bar for around 20 minutes then made no apologies when they did find it and escorted us to our table . I ordered a starter but my wife did not. Starter came quickly but they did not take my plate for a good 20 minutes after I'd finished which had a knock on effect on our mains coming out which were about another 20 minutes. Wife at this point waiting over an hour nursing a drink. Food came corn fed chicken for me lamb for the wife. Small piece for lamb was nice but rest of dish tasteless. Mine was also bland. However presentation was very nice just a shame the taste didn't match up. Waitress was unapologetic and inattentive I believe due to the fact that a table of around 30 people came in after us. We ordered desserts but could not be bothered to wait as it had been so long so we asked for them to be delivered to our room. They came quick strawberry cheesecake and lemon tart and were delicious. May go back for cake wouldn't bother for the evening meal unfortunately.

We had booked a spa break with speabreak.com. We didn't have a very good experience with the spa itself but the blas restaurant was amazing. We were sat overlooking the golf course and the food was delicious waiters and waitresses asked us several times if we needed anything and if we were all ok. Well done blas restaurant shame about the spa side of our day out!

This review is purely for the restaurant, the Hotel review was great and reviewed separately.DinnerMy son had the Blas Beef Burger with Brioche Bun and Chips priced at £14.95. I tried some of this and have to say it's one of the poorest quality burgers I can recall tasting and if this was served in a pub you would not want to pay more than £7.50. I mentioned this wasn't very good quality during my stay and they did offer to prepare another one, however I said it's only going to be the same and didn't want to spoil our meal by eating at different times. At £14.95 which is the top end of the burger price point, this should be a ground beef hand made patty and the restaurant failed with both their price point and quality of good. Overall 2/10Duo of Beef at £20.95 and a further £3.50 for side vegetablesThis is the dish I ordered which on paper sounds lovely. The 3 miniscule pieces of Onglet steak were chewy and not pleasant. The Braised Beef Cheek was fairly tasty but dried out and cooked too long. In addition, with the dish costing £20.95, you would not really expect to have to pay extra for side dishes. Overall 4.5/10My wife's dish was average and the best of the meals but dinner generally was forgettable in terms of quality of food.BreakfastTwo of us ordered poached eggs and these were both cooked too long, so the yolk was hard. I guess with a busy morning rush, I can see how this can happen. The full English is served to you and had only 1 sausage which was of poor quality. Having had an excellent breakfast at nearby Celtic Manor (Cardiff), I was hoping to receive a quality Welsh sausage, but this was cheap produce. That said, there did need to be a little more substance to this breakfast. not the end of the world but probably 5.5/10.To summarise, aside from checking for a pool at a hotel, the restaurant is one of the key contributing factors of where I decide to stay. I can't fault the hotel, staff or facilities, however the restaurant is very average and I would not recommend staying/eating at this hotel if you too look forward to your evening meal.Since my stay, the hotel has responded and offered a complimentary upgrade on our next stay which of course I have declined. They at no point have acknowledged the poor quality of their burgers or sausages nor my Duo of Beef meal and have refused to offer any refund pertaining to the meal.Take this review at face value, however be warned - we paid £250 for 1 night with 4 drinks, dinner and a bottle of wine (dinner was about £90). Don't be fooled into a Dinner Bed & Breakfast package - that won't make the food taste any better!

This restaurant has a nice setting with great views, but sadly is not quite up to a good standard. I used this facility on three separate occasions during my stay at the hotel and on each occasion was overcharged on my bill. This varied from the addition of hot drinks to bottles of wine to desserts that we didn't order or receive. Once can be attributed to a genuine mistake, but every time is a bit much. The meal received on my final evening was average at best and certainly not worthy of the price tag associated with a high end establishment that the restaurant is aiming for. The steak arrived burnt after being requested to be cooked medium and we had to go looking for a staff member to request condiments and sauces. Overall quite a disappointment.

We had the sunset package on a Thursday evening of 25 min massages for both my wife and I and one course dinner. There was reasonable choice of meals to choose from. Both our dishes the pork and the seabass were nice and well presented. The staff were nice and attentive. The spa facilities were fine and the pool area a little on the warm side.I would recommend and would visit again, though may be not in a hurry as the other hotels in Newport area might have the edge,

Sadly not the best afternoon tea. Our very pleasant waitress asked if we would like our tea before or with our food, we asked for it straight away but didn't get it until after our food arrived! The sandwiches were nice but sadly the cakes were disappointing, one tiny macaroon each, then apart from one scone each, the other cakes were brownies and chocolate cupcakes. I appreciate it's difficult to cater for everyone's taste but two lots of chocolate cakes is too much of the same. What about some traditional Sponge? Not cheap either at £17 per head.

We arrived for afternoon tea and had a lovely experience from beginning to end.We were quickly seated and offered tea/coffee etc. When it arrived we were advised that we had unlimited tea or coffee for the duration of the afternoon tea. The afternoon tea stand was then produced to our table and wow what can I say. The selection was amazing... we were talked through what we had on the stand by the waitress and left to indulge. We had crustless triangles (white and brown) of cucumber, egg mayo, smoked salmon and then a cheese and pickle one. The cake selection was unbelievable:- A huge scone each with fresh clotted cream and jam, a fairy cake each (the size of a muffin), four small macaroons, a chocolate brownie sandwich type cake each, a lemon and raspberry square each which was stunning. (I hope I haven't missed any). The waitress came back and checked on us offering more tea - we had another teapot full at this point and a jug of fresh water. The waitress was really quick in ensuring she popped a new milk portion on our table for us too. We had a window seat overlooking the golf course and the surrounding areas which have views you won't forget in a hurry. Sat there for afternoon tea on the first day of my annual leave I honestly believe I could have been anywhere - you wouldn't guess you are only a few minutes from Blackwood. So peaceful and tranquil. We had an afternoon using the facilities after tea ( pool, jacuzzi, sauna, steam room and loungers) and boy did we relax. Such a lovely atmosphere throughout. Honestly was so relaxed I could have slept afterwards (but instead we got our trainers on and made the most of the sunny evening walking in the surrounding areas). Thanks to all at Bryn meadows, you've all made yet another visit a lovely experience.

i don't recommend eating their food the only thing that was decent was their cod bites the chips are dry and if they forget something they ask you to pay for the delivery a second time when they messed up the order in the first place

Delicious food, but an insultingly small portion, which was just about lukewarm. I didn't complain out of respect to my friend who had arranged the table as a treat for me. The waiting staff were fab, and the coffee was excellent. The first time I have left a restaurant feeling completely mugged off. Most certainly won't be going back.
