Blank in Belfast

Went for dinner with the family a few days ago, had the six course menu + wine tasting and just wanted to say it was an amazing experience, from the presentation, taste and preparation of every meal, to the wines and how good they matched the food. The service was excellent and we absolutely had an amazing time.

This was a gift from our children for our 60th birthday. We were booked in for the tasting menu at lunchtime. The restaurant was empty upon arrival. We decided not to have wine and the waiter appeared shocked. Most of the courses were cold when served orlukewarm. The portion size was small. The waiter told us we were fast eaters. He was extremely serious and too intense. I found the whole experience intimidating This tasting menu is an example of style over substance. The food was average at best with tiny portions. We left before the last 2 courses were served because it all went on too long and it was not a pleasant experience . Going out to eat should be a pleasant relaxing experience but this made me feel anxious. It says something when you feel relieved to leave a restaurant. How can I help Blank improve its customer service. 1 . Get Frontline staff who are friendly and personable. 2.allow the customer to choose when the next course should be served. 3.I thought the idea of no menu was innovative and new but really this isn't working. Reduce your menu choices to what you do best and tell people before they choose what they can have. 4.Advise the staff nor to comment on the speed if the customers eating. 5.people will pay for really good quality food but this simply is not worth it. 2 good courses are infinitely better that 6 mediocre ones. 6. Work on the atmosphere this is what keeps restaurants alive otherwise you are not going to survive. I really hope this is helpful.

An underwhelming experience. Main courses on a la carte menu were excellent but starters and desserts very average. Staff also seemed disinterested. Not once were we asked if we had enjoyed our food. I expected better. Will not be back.

What a wonderful experience we had last night! First class service, really friendly yet professional chefs, amazing food. We were delighted to see an a la carte menu option and chose langoustines, mushroom tart, sirloin of beef and rhubarb with custard. Everything was outstanding in terms of flavour profile and presentation. Well done you guys 👏

Very enjoyable evening, food and drink was lovely. Staff were excellent apart from one waiter that told me not to touch my plate and that was it very unhelpful as i tried to help her tidy away. It was extremely rude and tbh i was in complete shock. Was going to make a complaint but didn't want to spoil what was a very enjoyable evening

Siamo stati da Blank nell’autunno 2023 e ci siamo tornati a dicembre 2023 per il nostro anniversario. Il servizio è molto professionale. Per quanto riguarda il cibo, uno dei ristoranti migliori di Belfast e certamente il migliore di fine dining. Il concetto, poi, è molto interessante, essendo che nel menu degustazione tutto quello che ti danno è una lista di fornitori locali (e per locali intendo provenienti da tutta l’Irlanda). Due consigli per chi volesse prenotare l’esperienza: - personalmente ho trovato il menu intero con accompagnamento di vini un po’ troppo in quanto a quantità. Innanzitutto il menu vvdi sei corse finisce per essere di nove perché ci sono delle mini corse itineranti con l’aperitivo e con il dolce. Questo non è un lato negativo. Semplicemente, scegliere solo uno o due vini da abbinare magari con la carne più un cocktail che in generale suggerisco di provare perché sono ottimi. - quando sono tornata la seconda volta ho ordinato alla carta proprio per il suddetto motivo e la si finisce spendendo di più e almeno con il meno degustazione si ha l’occasione di assaggiare più piatti. Alcune volte fanno menu degustazione ridotti. Prezzo: l’esperienza è cara ma secondo me giustificata. Ambiente e servizio: molto professionali e soprattutto non ti stanno addosso mettendoti fretta. Piccola nota a fin di pagina: quando sono andata in autunno uno dei piatti era il piccione. Uno dei miei commensali ha trovato un piccolo bossolo nella carne. Questo è normale nella carne di selvaggina. Purtroppo lei non lo sapeva e ci è rimasta male. Consiglierei allo staff di avvertire gli ospiti al riguardo!

Blank Restaurant in Belfast, UK surpassed my expectations with their delightful Kaffir Lime Scampi! The flavors were vibrant, and the dish was cooked to perfection. The ambiance was charming, and the service was impeccable. A must-visit for food enthusiasts!

It was quite an interesting concept for me. Make sure you are quite hungry when you go because you will get more than enough food. Enjoyed the food very much. Will definitely visit again.

My favourite restaurant in Belfast!

Rude social media team. Poor customer service. Will not entertain them again. They also blocked me on FB and Instagram for calling out their poor behaviour.

I eventually got around to using a voucher received as a birthday present for the Taste experience. We arrived at the restaurant with very little knowledge of what lay ahead, except there was no menu, per se! However, once settled at our table, our maitre D explained the situation perfectly! We were given a choice of adding drinks to our menu, which we accepted. One with wine, the other non alcoholic! What followed was certainly a journey of discovery of tastes - of a variety of foods, a combination of ingredients complemented by a drinks menu which certainly added to the whole experience!! All of the courses, and the drinks, were explained in detail and each one was looked forward to in expectation of another delight. We were never hurried but given adequate time to savour all that was set in front of us! The portions were small but beautifully cooked and as the courses went on, we certainly did not feel hungry! All in all, a delightful experience and one that I would certainly recommend!

The food was good but not phenomenal. We went for the a la carte menu which I feel was a mistake, it seems like you should only go for the tasting menu if you want to go here. I can't help but feel it was overpriced for what we got, the portions of the a la carte felt like they were taken from a tasting menu but we only had a starter and a main, plus 2 drinks. It left me feeling a little cheated ( and hungry), especially adding a 10% service charge which was like rubbing some posh salt in the wound. Don't think I will be back again. The tasting menu was £75pp without drinks, seems way too much to me. Had tasting menus elsewhere and the food was mind-blowing, it wasn't here. Avoid a la carte if you want to go, and prepare for it to be expensive 🫰

This is my third time here and probably my last. The food isn't worth it. It is expensive but you know that when you book. The food just lacked that touch and flavour. The service was ok, The desserts were not nice. One waitress looked unhappy and annoyed (young blonde). I felt uncomfortable and felt I had to be extra nice. Poor show and really needs to improve.

We had a wonderful time experiencing their 6 course tasting menu with pairing wines. Food was imaginative, plentiful and extremely tasty. Service was attentive, polished but not stuffy. Atmosphere quiet and private although it was 3/4 full on a Wed night. Will be returning!

Loved it! Hope they'll never get a Michelin star because it would put people off: more expensive, smaller portion, higher service charge, gimmicky menu, waiters dressing like estate agents, becoming weird, lowering their voice and giving fake restrained smile. If Mr Michelin offers it, please turn down.

I do not normally leave reviews, however I received a review email directly from Blank in which I expressed my disappointments regarding our Blank experience and I did not receive any correspondence/apology or explanation back. As a result, I feel I should now leave my review online. We had a special birthday dinner out with friends. Out of our 7 courses, one was reasonable, the others were bland and unpleasant to eat. However, what was worse than the uninspiring food was our service. We had a seating at 745 and we were only receiving our main course at 1030, which we felt was really unacceptable. The delay being served between courses was ridiculous. At 11pm my friend asked how many courses we were still waiting on as we were all getting tired. We were told two courses…my friend explained we’d been waiting a long time for every course- no apology or explanation was received. Instead, our waiter/sommelier came back and ‘dropped’ a bottle of water onto our table, glared at us and stormed off. We were actually speechless that he behaved so unprofessionally and so we asked for the bill as we were very keen to leave and felt very uncomfortable. We sat on for at least another 15 minutes waiting for our bill. We left feeling appalled at how expensive the meal was, yet how awful the food and service was. I would strongly recommend anyone to eat elsewhere in Belfast as you will be very disappointed by Blank.

I actually can’t recommend this place enough. I’m a bit awkward being gluten free and pescatarian but they didn’t bat an eyelid! The food was incredible and the service was the best in Belfast! The small details were just great. I’ll be back!

Foodie heaven, if you enjoy food and great service while in Belfast then this place is not to be missed. The couple who own and operate this restaurant are so informative about the menu and ingredients which are all sourced from within the country. We paired our tasting with both wine and the cocktails, and you can tell that so much thought and effort have gone in to each and every course. Highly recommend and will definitely be back at the next available chance.

This restaurant was amazing!! The was delicious and beautifully presented. The service was outstanding.

I was very impressed with the staff, they had a card for my girlfriend’s 30th and presented her with a little cake (complete with candle) at the end of the night to mark the occasion. We went for the 6 course meal option and while some dishes were not jaw dropping they were all tasty and worth the experience. The duck was a particular stand out. We went for cocktails and a bottle of wine and there was an incident with a glass of wine which they rectified to our satisfaction. Really, for me, the staff are a huge part of my enjoyment and here they are 10/10. The food and drink is expensive but you know this going in, I’d go here over muddlers club though. Great night out!

Utterly disappointed! We had been looking forward to trying this restaurant and we came away utterly disappointed. The atmosphere was very uncomfortable. Two waitresses and a bar man who basically stood and watched us eat, when they werent serving the other table that was in. The food was almost inedible... We were given a cup of honey and lavender tea to warm our palates...it was like licking medicated soap and honestly was pretty disgusting. From then on each course was very underwhelming. Very little in the way of flavour. It seemed like the chef was all about textures but forgot about flavour. We struggled our way through the courses though there was much that was unplesant. The best thing was the two little breads that came with the carrot dish. All show and no substance...just very pretentious! We found the experience to be Bland and certainly wont be back.

I was so looking forward to the 3 course tasting menu, but disappointed is an understatement. Firstly, there is zero atmosphere. Then came the eye rolling staff member and gossiping, which me and my friend very uncomfortable. One young blonde waitress was lovely but the older lady seemed irked when asked for something. Then the highly anticipated food. I can hardly express my disappointment. Out first was the lavender infused honey tea, vile is the only way to describe it, I've genuinely not tasted anything so disgusting. It was like drinking essential oils. The little amuse Bush that followed was nice, a little underwhelming because the cheese sauce didn't taste of cheese. Then the no waste carrot dish, the carrot panacotta was tasteless. Thank goodness for the 2 little breads as this I can honestly say was the highlight if the whole day. Next the rabbit, which quite frankly was over cooked and had bitty stuffing, as for the espuma of potato, pointless and tasteless. For the price paid, I expected more. Would absolutely not recommend. Having recently been to six by nico, their 5 course tasting menu was lovely, tasty, well cooked and much better value for money. This is a case of style over substance. Avoid at all costs

Fantastic tasting menu, it may be my new favourite in Belfast! Wine pairing complements the dishes very well, when we go back we will be having it again. We had the 5 course tasting menu and the signature wine pairings, be prepared as this was extremely filling! Very balanced flavours, lovely chill atmosphere and a great idea in terms of using produce from the island of Ireland.

Hi, was so looking forward to our visit tonight for tasting menu, seen good reviews but noticed they were not verified From the moment I arrived, knew instantly it was not for me, decor was masked over and cheaply presented with stains on the ceiling and skirting boards The only good thing about the evening was 2 of the 5 wines I say good, that is me being kind, for a numbers of years I have went to MUDDLERS and GALGORM for tasting menus and have been blown away as they are fantastic BLANK was such a total letdown and feel so disappointed These people are playing at it only, bluffers or totally so far removed that they actually think they are at a standard to their competitors They need to hit the reset button, worry about what the food tastes like rather than what it looks like would be a good starting point Anyone thinking about visiting forget about it and book MUDDLERS instead Never have I ever written a review good or bad previously for anywhere but seriously this place needs to start again

We had a reservation at Blank for four people on 4th March 2023 for their 9 course tasting menu. The main course of the evening was a fillet of steak. As soon as my plate was presented, I asked if my steak could be done slightly more, as the fillet was served completely rare. The restaurant refused my request to have my steak done a little more. The bill for the evening was £975 - this included a 10% service charge which we did not pay and my husband deducted a further amount for the steak which I was unable to eat. We have been to Blank numerous times and after this very disappointing experience and how the situation was handled by the manager, we will never return to Blank again.

One of the best nights!! We dined here last night for my birthday and the food, wine & staff were all exceptional. We arrived shortly after 8pm and weren’t leaving to near midnight. A brilliant night & will definitely be back again - we will save it for something special.

Blank was good but can’t help but feeling a little underwhelmed. We travelled over an hour to visit here specifically due to the recent press of the addition to the Michelin Guide. The overall impression was that they were trying too hard to obtain a star rather than focusing on the overall dining experience. Some courses worked, some didn’t, some were unnecessary. We had requested on booking no seafood on one of the meals. We were greeted by the server when we sat down, who quizzed us on why and told us she strongly advise we try it. We really had to explain our way out of it. She seemed a bit bothered that we couldn’t be convinced. We didn’t really like the pushy-ness of that. Everyone’s entitled to their own tastes. We were presented with an artichoke and black truffle tea, which wasn’t exactly pleasant. The truffle was barely there and tasted like it’d been used for who knows how long. If it’s not going to be fresh then leave it out completely. It didn’t work with the rest of the meal, for us. The cod was the highlight, perfectly cooked. To the second. The beef too. However the pre-dessert of apple, sorbet and.. sugar basket (??) was poor (felt like a different restaurant) and felt a bit old fashioned. The main dessert carrot cake was also far too sweet. We opted for the cheese course afterwards and unfortunately the last dish of the night, as soon as the waitress set it down, I noticed a long hair wound through the salad. I glanced at the plate once and seen it, it should’ve been spotted. A little more care and I probably wouldn’t have felt as critical this morning. In their defence they apologised and replaced it within a few minutes, and they took it off our bill without any prompt. The service was good, the wine pairings just ok. Some better than others. The vegetarian option instead of the cod was thoughtless. Just add more cauliflower and keep the same dish. Not what you’d expect for a restaurant charging these prices. The veggies should have the same thought and attention as the other diners. Overall, the cooking was good, but not exceptional. It’s definitely way overpriced, and if you’re going to spend that kind of money on one meal it should be of a higher standard. Probably won’t return unless they up their game.

Gorgeous 9 course taster menu with specialty wines . Loved the beef and amazing carrot cake with beetroot sorbet delicious would go back for these alone . Staff were amazingly knowledgeable and attentive . Thank you

Was there last night and i had a magical experience. The staff couldn't do enough for us and to watch the chefs work was like watching a theatre 👍

Food that tantalises the tongue with every morsel. From the sharp intensity of fabulous cheese or the delicate gentle sweetness of salmon roe. Every mouthful was a delight accompanied by some rather fabulous wines, I could go on a lot, but it's better you just try for yourself. And of course the service was excellent there is nothing more to be said.

4.75 - Outstanding culinary experience, it would of been a 5/5 but for a slightly disappointing 4th course as a pre-dessert, just not something I'm keen on, and not worthy of a 'course', but the scallop dish and beef main are up their with the finest pieces of cooking I have ever tasted. Can't wait to go back and try the next menu in the new year.

Fantastic! Food and service great. Would especially recommend the non alcoholic drinks package (£14 for the 3 course pre theatre menu). So interesting and different. I regretted getting wine, as my friend had the more exciting drinks!

Incredible fine dining meal. They could do a full vegan tasting menu with paired wines and it was absolutely delicious.

Everything was absolutely 5 stars from the moment we walked in the door. The staff were so helpful and knowledgeable regarding the wines and food. The atmosphere in the restaurant was incredible and the decor was perfect. We had the 5 course tasting menu with the French wine pairing and it was hands down the best food, wine and experience we have ever had. Couldn't recommend this unique restaurant enough.

Last weekend, I went to Blank Restaurant with my sisters. It is located at 43 Malone Rd, next to Clifton Street Service Station on 38-46 Clifton St. It was such a refreshingly pleasant surprise to visit this wonderful restaurant for the first time. Although I live locally I 've never come here. The food was fantastic and the staff that were exceptional. It is a lovely experience!

Fantastic food and drink pairings (both alcoholic and non alcoholic), first rate service and presentation of dishes. We enjoyed the way both the world wine and the non alcoholic wine flight were used as an introduction to each course. It was such fun trying to guess what the next course would be as our sommelier described how the drinks would enhance the flavours of the food to come. It was my birthday celebration and not only did I get a card but also a small edible birthday surprise at the end - a beautiful delice with a candle on top! What was so amazing was that the two drink flights looked almost identical. Would definitely recommend this for a special occasion.

This is a good experience like no other! Husband thought it was a bargain as I paid! To be honest I would pay it again. Bill came to just under £300. This is a real food and drink lovers experience!! Staff were amazing and the wine complimented the meals beautifully. Well done. We will be back!

Superb taster menu with knowledgeable wine matching and efficient but friendly...and nicely geeky..service.

The only thing better than the outstanding food in Blank were the people who served it. An obsessive level of planning goes into designing every plate and paired drink combination each of which was expertly and charmingly described by multiple servers who along with light creative touches of experience design resulted in a playful and relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Best Restaurant, Best Foods, Best Place, Friendly Staff

I must say that Blank restaurant exceeded my expectation. I was there as part of the guests for the Mont Blanc meet and greet. I had apprehensions before the dinner because I couldn't get a feel of the menu - that's why it's blank anyways. From the aesthetics of the place, to the courteous staff and the delicacy, I definitely recommend the Blank. One thing though, be prepared to look for parking space.

The easiest review. Alongside The Waterman, this is the best food in the city. Service, teamwork, attentiveness and most importantly, two key words: 'wonderful invention'; while the produce is locally-sourced, from the North and South of Ireland. It is expensive, but on this occasion, compared to a similar restaurant, The Ox, this time it was completely worth it. And the surprise menu is a really good 'hook' and novelty.

We were excited to try a fine dining restaurant in Belfast. Most dishes very well executed and tasty. Particularly liked the fish (cod?) dish and the lamb. Dessert was unfortunately memorable for the wrong reasons - the white chocolate shell is very thick especially in the centre and it was difficult to break into it without making a mess on the table. Sorbets seemed a little underpowered in terms of flavour. Overall though we had a lovely dinner.

First time having an experience such as this, and was blown away by not only the incredible courses prepared by the chefs, but also the wine pairings and knowledge provided by the waiting staff. Can't recommend this enough. A wonderful experience, thank you! 😍

Food and service excellent. Wine pairing first class. It was a very pleasant experience BUT grossly overpriced. (£4.80 for a bottle of water is, I think more than a little OTT.)

Had a wonderful meal here. It was a real experience completely based on local NI produce. The staff were well informed and attentive but not overbearing. Would recommend this to anyone interested in really high quality fine dining.

Booked for four for my wife’s birthday My daughter had just arrived back from Barcelona ,was feeling unwell and did a covid test on hour before reservation and had a positive result We arrived for reservation and explained there would only be three and the reason for this and this was accepted This was our second time at blank spending roughly £400 on a lovely meal checking my credit card account a few weeks later for something unconnected I noticed a separate charge of £70 to blank On contacting blank they said it was because my daughter had not attended I tried to reason with a manager and he said tough We won’t be back and will not be recommending to friends

The food was good. Service was atentive but felt a bit rushed. Not really a five course menu as we got four courses with a sorbet. I totally get the inflationary pressures facing all restaurants but I just don't think this was worth the £70 price for the tasting menu. I enjoyed the experience but won't be returning.

We went to blank this weekend and thought it was one of the best dining experiences we’ve had. I would usually do wine paring but being pregnant it wasn’t possible so I did non alcoholic paring which I’ve never heard of anyone doing before and it was amazing! The food was great, yes it’s pricey but with the costs of everything at the moment it’s also understandable I think. Service was great too! Thanks Blank we’ll be back ☺️

Although the pre dessert, dessert and black garlic puree with the beef were delicious the food was not as flavoursome as i had expected and some of the elements on the plate were too small to truly taste. Carrot 3 ways as an example, half a baby carrot, a blob of carrot puree no bigger than a 50p piece and 3 slices of thin carrot, I'm sure the carrot puree was delicious but there was no 2nd mouthful to be able to find out.

Food quite nice, certainly not outstanding at £70/person for 5 small courses.....some dishes better than others...location ok....Unfortunately I would not recommend, and wouldn't return. With the current austerity in the community it would be difficult to imagine how a restaurant like this will remain viable

The best in Belfast. We've made the rounds all over Belfast and this place is my fav....The food, the wine pairing, the staff and the atmosphere were all absolutely superb. I was slightly hesitant about the idea of it but as it turned out, everything was perfect. Big shout out to all the staff who were so fun, professional and knowledgeable!

A pretentious high end Michelin like restaurant. Some of the dishes were meh…just okay and the others were aesthetic but quite boring. The waitresses were kind and friendly BUT we’ve waited for ages to have the first dish. Definitely isn’t worth over £160 for two people.

Very disappointed in the way I was treated. My wife and I couldn’t go to the restaurant as our kids had Covid and we couldn’t ask someone to babysit for us in those circumstances. We also didn’t want to risk giving Covid to other customers. So, our table of 4 became a table of 2. Despite our friends spending over £300, and us confirming we couldn’t go, Blank decided to take £120 off my credit card. Apparently it is in their T&Cs that cancellations and table reductions within 24-hours, even due to covid, are whacked with an exorbitant charge. When I approached the owner and operations manager they were rude, unhelpful and unwilling to even furnish a voucher. They were unbelievably hostile if the truth be told and just kept banging on about them being out of pocket. I won’t ever set foot in Blank or Shed and will be telling everyone I know to avoid. There are more deserving businesses out there who really care about their current and future customers.

Amazing evening loved it from we stepped in the door. Greeted by a lovely smiling lady and the evening just got better. Food sublime and wine pairings delicious. Need to save up but will be back. Dont consider this a meal out rather an evening of gourmet enjoyment

We had an absolutely fantastic time at Blank. The service was excellent, courses are timed really well, perfect amount of time between each one. The food was amazing, particularly loved the seatrout dish.

A pleasant experience, food was nice but not exceptional. Not great value for money at £60 for a 5 course meal which either the sorbet or the cheese ball at the start was included as one of the 5 courses. Could have been better for 3 tasters and 2 bottles of wine for £316.

Food was standard, service was the worst I have ever experienced. The manager Alex was incredibly rude to me and my party and when we made a complaint I received an even worse email response to the complaint from Christine, who was apparently there that night! The only female staff I saw were the waitresses, so unless they respond to complaints too, I think somebody’s lying! Don’t email me because you don’t like the reviews that the party left due to your staffs bad manners! We have the right to rate and review. If you don’t like it remove yourselves! For your information, it is illegal to record phone calls without advising those who ring you before hand. Something you need to consider since you record everyone who makes a booking without advising them they’re being recorded. I’d give no stars if I could. Very rude manager Alec, after charging my bank account without consent £120 for x2 no shows that I hadn’t booked. Apparently they have evidence of the booking for x6 but they conveniently didn’t have it for me to hear/see. And at time of booking the menu was charged at £50. No email to say the menu had increased to £60. Food was lovely and the restaurant is beautiful. But the staff and treatment after the restaurant mistake has left a bad taste.

Absolutely loved this restaurant! This is a unique experience in Belfast. The produce is all locally sourced and put together beautifully. The wine pairings were perfect with the 5 dishes and if you don't want wine, there is a great choice of cocktails. The service is attentive but not intrusive. Perfect for a special occasion.

Really good! excellent quality and seasonal products from local businesses, cooked in traditional recipes with a special twist. They also accommodated my wife's special diets requirements without any problems.

Such an experience, staff couldn't be more helpful and knowledgeable and the food, absolutely amazing. Highly recommended.

Absolutely stunning meal, worthy of a Michelin Star. If you're a genuine foodie and like to be surprised, because you'll eat anything, then this restaurant is pure heaven! I couldn't tell you what my favourite course was from the five course tasting menu, because they were all equally delicious. The flavours were perfectly balanced and the dishes were beautifully presented. This is a restaurant for a special treat and I'll be having the wine pairings the next time, because the house sauvignon blanc was gorgeous. Can't recommend this place enough. It's now my favourite restaurant!

5 great courses with some delicious wine pairings. Only thing I missed was the bread rolls, but they had an interesting alternative.

The best food I have ever had. Everything that was served was so well thought of and was really saddened when my last plate came in. Will definitely come back for the winter menu :)

First visit here on Wednesday evening and it certainly didn't draw a blank! An experience not to be forgotten. From begining to end all the staff were very friendly and attentive. Nothing was too much trouble and they were all very knowledgeable. The menu which was presented to us left us wondering which way the ingredients would appear. Each course was delicious and we couldn't pick a favourite they all had their own unique selling points. The pairing wines worked so well with each course. Will defiently be back it is just what Belfast needed a new and exciting dining experience.

I visited Blank with a friend on Saturday evening. The food, service, attention to detail and cleanliness was excellent. Blank brings a new dining experience to Belfast and I can’t wait to return. Highly recommended, my favourite NI restaurant.
