Ideal venue for refreshment and snack after walking around The common. Lots of seating outside to sit with friends and great social distance measures in place inside with separate ‘in’ and ‘out’ doors. Thoroughly recommended.

I went for a cup of coffee and soft drinks. There was a lot of rubbish around tables, tables dirty and not clean.If you want more custom you need to get cleaner.Your Covid 19 preparedness was rubbish, the packs of wipes you put out, needs to be reviewed. It was a, I could not care less attitude.Your toilets were grubby also.You were not busy you were chatting.We would like to be able to sit down and enjoy the surroundings.All Cafes, Restaurants and Pubs you all need to up your game and get cleaner. I would shut you down if you were unclean.

Could have been lovely but the manager was very rude and unpleasant. Was hoping to book a party there but have now gone elsewhere. Owner Paul didnt seem too bothered in how his staff treat customers when I spoke to him. And no sani bins or bags in the ladies loo - random! But caused an issue for at least one lady I knew of.A shame coz the setting is good for private party.

What a lovely little place ! We are so lucky to have this in the heart of the village ! Eveything from the staff to the cleaness is amazing they have a 5 star food hygiene rating ! The food is so tasty they have a wide variety of food on offer and a great price to ! Paul the owner is a delight and is always happy to help , the manager Stephanie is absolutely amazing ! Always has. A smile on her face and is so welcoming they are a great team and are always willing to go the extra mile for anyone ! Me and my daughter pop in almost every day after school for her favourite hot chocolate and love the breakfast buffet they do every Sunday ' realy worth a visit you won't be disappointed x

I have visited this place a few times now, all I can say is how friendly this little place is. Really welcoming for all of us, they welcome children, families, walkers and the food is great, the staff are great and we love visiting, especially on a cold Sunday morning. Thanks again

Popped in here for breakfast with the wife ,weekends are buffet style, help yourself always cooked well, fresh eggs to order if required. Sunday morning seems to be busy but dirty plates were cleaned away promptly although staff were very busy. I see in a previous post has commended it wasn’t clean ?? but what you have to understand is Blackwells is right near dog walking woods so lots of people in with muddy feet etc. For me as long as what I’m eating with is clean and the food and service is good that is what matters, I feel those comments are always normally unwarranted. I never understand people using trip advisor as a weapon, if you see something tell the staff surely don’t just photograph a negative and post it , tell the staff so they can rectify the problem. Our experience was good food and nice staff.

I regularly visit Blackwells for breakfast on a Sunday, Blackwell's have an incredible team who are always helpful and polite.

We love coming to Blackwells every week for a catch up with friends. Lovely welcoming staff, happy friendly atmosphere! Great location for walkers and fantastic food. Staff remember our order every week! Accommodating for children, dogs and people of all ages. Lovely village feel and all staff very happy to help - thank you!

Very reasonably priced good food and coffees etc, keep us coming back again and again! Managers very helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Have attended numerous parties and functions and never been less than impressed. Very surprised to read critical reviews, not sure what people expect!

The service was not good, we tried to talk to the manager and he was not friendly at all. Cutlery, plates, and cups were filthy. Ham sandwich was more fat than ham and butter tasted so cheap (who knew you could go wrong with a ham sandwich. The chicken wrap was more mayo than chicken. Disappointing as was really looking forward to it!

I arranged a lunch time visit for a group of 16 people to Blackwells. My enquiry was dealt with efficiently.I provided a list of food choices.On the day a table had been set up for us in a private room and after getting drinks all the dishes were brought to the table within ten minutes.Every body enjoyed their meal.Very reasonably priced food and drinks and first class service.What more can you ask.

Myself and my cycling club (The FCC) often visit Blackwells on a Sunday morning for the Buffet Breakfast and the food and service is always excellent.

Came last Sunday to an Ibiza Chill Out event. 2-7pm Perfect hours for a Sunday. There was street food by outside caterers which was amazing! A wonderful play area for kids a facepainter and sweet stall. We had a Dj who played some pretty awesome rave tunes from the 80’s 90’s and more. Loads of drinks including a gin bar and one for pimms. The kids loved it the parents loved it. Would highly recommend this place the staff were all lovely too. A well organised event. Hope they do another.

A great and friendly cafe that does great food especially the buffet breakfast they do on a Sunday. Very cyclist friendly

Myself and friends have been coming to Blackwells to meet for over a year. It's a nice location and convenient for all of us. Recently we've noticed a massive improvement in cleanliness. Staff must have had extra training because it's so much more welcoming and professional and the coffees taste much better than usual.

We were looking for a venue to hold a small wake for my mother in law. She used to come to Blackwells but we had never been. My daughter & I decided to visit several venues, this one being first. We didn’t go to see any others just booked the little room in the back. Steph the manager was very friendly, welcoming & helpful. On the day Steph was there, nothing was too much trouble. Food was good, service was lovely & it all went well. This is a great venue in a beautiful location. Thank you Steph & your team for looking after us so well. My mother in law would have loved it.

Came to Blackwells just last night for a friends wedding reception. We had arrived a little early & was greeted by a lovely girl (whose name escapes me) who served us a drink whilst we waited for the guests to arrive.

Booked their lovely function room for daughters 5th birthday party last Sunday. The staff were so friendly and they catered for 33 children seamlessly advising me the best way to set up the food on the day which was superb. They even let us have a Bouncy castle on site and an entertainer. Its a fantastic venue to use and its generated a lot if interest for the guests so well done to all the staff and the chef for making this a stress free party.

It was Sunday lunchtime and we hadn’t booked anywhere but a friend suggested Blackwells.

Had heard really good things and came here with a friend for a Sunday coffee with cakes. Very limited choice of cakes and coffee very small and lukewarm. Maybe an off day? Lots of seating. Found the atmosphere old and impersonal

We visited yesterday a party of 14. Most had booked the Christmas lunch and three of us had something form the regular menu. Our table was nicely laid out (just a few more chairs being brought in when we arrived). The girls serving did everything efficiently, in a very friendly and capable way. Food was piping hot (apart from the salads!) and everyone said the whole meal was really lovely. Good quality and great value for money. Even nice crackers o the table. Many thanks to all the staff. Taken here by good friends for Thursday morning breakfast....a good choice for us as we were off to visit family and a traditional British breakfast was a favourite when you don't cook it...Well cooked and hot...This was a treat for us as we live outside UK in warmer clims..was a first visit to chipperfield in 10 years plus

Blackwells is such an amazing location and different style, perfect for children and they don’t seem to mind muddy boots, it could be a real asset to Chipperfield and the surrounding villages, the food is fairly good with a large selection, my only faults with it is that it sometimes doesn’t feel completely clean, the cappuccinos could do with being a bit bigger without a price increase and the staff/owners aren’t very happy. I appreciate that everyone has bad days and it’s not easy to be smiley for every customer but a little more happiness would be lovely as I know myself and others always feel like we are putting the staff out. There has recently been some new playground equipment so it’s nice to see reinvestment.

We are regular visitors to Blackwells when we can; it is great for a quick snack or for a larger meal. The food is of good quality, fresh,well cooked and the service has always been friendly and chatty - something that is important for us when we go out to eat. We would definitely recommend them.

Prompt polite service and food arrived promptly too. This is not fine dining but it is wholesome and great value.

A great place to stop by for lunch when in and around Chipperfield. Their burgers are great and the chips are also very good. Has a nice community atmosphere. And, . . .it is very child friendly!

Excellent community meeting place for residents and visitors alike. Always made to feel welcome. A lovely place to stop off for refreshments.

If you are out and about on a Saturday or Sunday it's a good spot for breakfast. Both continental and full English, you can request how you want your eggs. There's an excellent coffee machine so take advantage of that. The other meals are basic and fine for something simple.

First time I’ve been here and it was very nice. Clean & tidy easy parking friendly staff I Would use again.

Perfect for a relaxing coffee stop off or a meal. The food is great quality and excellent and the staff are always super friendly and helpful. Perfectly situated on Chipperfield Common, I highly recommend it! :)

We went here to celebrate our Son's Birthday - with an All day Breakfast. HUGE portions, really good value. Staff explained that we would have to wait 30 mins, as they were down on staff.

Excellent place to drop into with the children after a walk round the woods and common. Love their breakfast ciabatta. Children had beans on toast. Really good value.

It could do with a deep clean but is always good for coffee and lunch. A fabulous location and big improvement on the two Brewers nearby, worth a visit for lunch.

Dejó después de un perro - Paseo por la común. Sencillo, sin grandes lujos, Ambiente (y mucho mejor) y un desayuno excelente relación calidad-precio. Volveremos otra vez para un plato principal como el menú es bueno y variado. Un servicio amable, lástima que no es agradable, aunque los perros vienen los meses de verano estaremos sentados fuera con ellos. Recomendado para informales, con una buena relación calidad-precio para comer.

Acerca de la comida y todo lo que necesitábamos saber, todo lo que hablamos antes de la fiesta fue dicho y hecho, el lugar es ideal para una fiesta!

Buena comida, no tan caro como se podría pensar de este pueblo de alta calidad, excelente cerveza y una mesa de billar.

Awful place, the staff are grumpy, no customer service skills. Food is basic and average but the worse thing about it is just how dirty it is.

Although dogs aren't allowed in Blackwells there is a large covered area to sit outside.The food is delicious and the staff very friendly.

I visited the cafe today. I must say the food and venue cannot be faulted. The waitresses were very polite, but there was one man think he may be the manager- he was so rude! No customer skills what so ever. I asked if I could order food for when they start serving lunch, so the waitress asked him and he said or should I say shouted 'no' in her face as I stood there. He had no people skills. This made the visit rather unpleasant.

An excellent time was given here although as said previously that could have had a roast dinner on the menu which was quite upsetting as it was on a Sunday her birthday.

Had lunch at this cafe/bar. As soon as you enter, it is obvious that cleanliness is not a priority! We were eating outside so "chanced it".The food is fairly priced and cooked okay - not brilliant, however, fair value.Drinks are expensive - a bottle of Kopenberg = £4.20. Almost as much as the meal!!!Service was busy, yet attentive enough.

A typically old style popular English village cafe / bar which blends in beautifully with the charmingly lovely village of Chipperfield . For us the perfect place for a hearty breakfast after walking the dogs in the local woods or if we are feeling lazy a walk and lunch with friends . This morning the sun shone and we were lucky enough to get a table outside .Our food was served hot and with a cheerful smile and chat from our young waitress . I am a bit confused about earlier comments because one of the things that draws us back to Blackwells is the friendliness of the staff and its other customers , not to mention the wonderful home cooked food . The chicken skewers are amazing and the Blackwells burger is superb ( although so much food on the plate I fail to eat it all ) .If we were local to this cafe I fear our waistlines would be ever expanding , We look forward to our next visit .

Sunday lunch snack after a walk. Server did not understand the menu, seemed new, so asked for help and got food flicked at her by another staff member who was having lunch at the bar and was disinterested. The place is massive, no atmosphere, and very insufficient cleaning. Wife discovered food marks down her trousers when leaving after sitting on the sofa. The food wasn't bad for the price to be fair and the coffee good. One of the girls did know what she was doing and was pleasant. On leaving lots of empty plates with leftovers on outside tables despite plenty of staff around. Sadly has the feel of a place in terminal decline unless there is an injection of cleaning effort, enthusiasm, investment in decor and staff training. Shame, great location.

Blackwells, has something for everyone, coffee after dropping children at school. easy lunch, entertaintment some weekends, rooms to book and hire, activities for children and adults alike. Friendly staff

The inside decor was acceptable but the viw out was great. Copperfield is a stunning Hertfordshire village complete with a great wood and cricket green. It has essentially remained untouched for the 60+ years that I have visited it.Anyhow, we had lunch here. Simple food served hot and promptly. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lots of things to do here, not sure how many of them were associated with cafe though.

This is a small cafe/ bar. There is an area with cosy sofas and an area with tables and chairs. The table we sat at was sticky and would benefit from a good wipe down, however the menu was extensive and the food home made and delicious. The downside is that you have to wait for it to be cooked which for us was 25 minutes. Service was friendly and value for money was very good.

A friend booked the place on Saturday night for a charity event raising money for children with cancer. The DJ's and band all played for free. Loads of people donated prizes for a raffle and auction, and the ticket price included a glass of Prosecco on arrival (also donated for free). Not only did he charge a hire fee, despite being guaranteed that he would take considerably more than usual behind the bar (which he did), there were nearly 100 people there, drinking all night and even buying bottles of champagne. But the most incredible thing was at the end he then charged £5 a bottle 'corkage' for the donated Prosecco!Plain simply tight and uncharitable. The place really could do with a clean and some heating too...but I guess that also costs money! Shame, it could be a nice venue if it was run better.

Friendly meeting place with lots of different food on the menu at a reasonable price. Great to visit after walking round Chipperfield. Lovely location - typically english village.

Great place to meet for breakfast, needs to jazz up a little for lunch/ diner. Maybe time for some new tables and chairs. But a great spot.

Went to a party held here and have to give credit to the staff and management. The service at the bar was quick, facilities good and the food also good. Highly recommend this venue for a party, celebration etc.

I have been here several times for coffee after a walk in the woods. I wish it were cleaner and the décor more attractive.

After using Blackwells for months as a post natal group meeting place with 10 mums and babies, we enjoyed coffee and the odd bacon sandwich in the lovely squidgy sofas that felt like our own living room, we then decided that as our babies were older that we would try lunch a we had seen the ample dining room and highchairs and menu. We were disgusted at the state of the high chairs, it looked as though they have never been cleaned and when we asked for a cloth, the one which was brought out was dirtier than the highchair itself, there was no way that we were putting our babies anywhere near them! Of course once you have noticed one dirty area you start to look a bit closer!!!! its a shame as its the perfect meeting point and reasonably priced but I'm afraid I've been well and truly put off

Enjoyed a lovely breakfast treat here at Blackwells on Sunday 1.2.15 - very friendly and helpful staff, nice atmosphere and although we turned up at 12 noon and the Buffet Breakfast finished at 12:30, everything was freshly topped up as soon as we got there. Eggs were cooked to order and plenty of toast/jam etc. Thank you everyone for making it such a pleasant visit.

Nice for a cup of tea after a walk on the common.Not such quick service as The Larder, but right by the Common and more parking.The lunch time meals are big, but good value.

My daughter held her wedding reception here last weekend. They let her decorate the place with flowers and candles, the staff were friendly and hard working, the food was great.A perfect venue for a party of a hundred people or so, well done Blackwells, highly recommended.

Not sure what it is about this place but I tend to agree with another one star comment for Blackwells. I thought it was just me and that's why I didn't put a comment on before. In my opinion and it is only my opinion. You just don't feel welcome at this place unless you are a local, play tennis or a friend. Now that is fine if that's the business model and good luck to the owner. I just don't bother going there now after three similar experiences. The last one was the nail in the coffin for me. We hired the back room for a christening. The owner was very helpful and the charge was a fair price. We organised the time for the food to be served after the church finished. Unforts for some reason when we arrived the food hadn't even been put on and we had to wait 1 and 1/2 hrs to 2 hours for food. Everyone was starving. Anyway. Whinge over. The breakfast is a fair price and the food is good quality and varied. Don't ask for anything other than the breakfast as you'll be looked at, as if you have 2 heads. Damn. Done it againIt is situated just off the green and woods, so excellent if you want to walk the dog and then go and sit have a coffee and cake. The inside is nicely decorated and is a good size for events etc. prices are reasonable. That is if you don't buy the house in the village first before going in to buy a coffeeSo to finish. This place has got a great bar, lounge, tables and an outside area. The breakfast buffet is great value and very filling. The food is average otherwise but good enough for a lunch. It is a great place to stop with the dog and have an ice cream, cup of tea or something stronger. I have also had private parties here and they have laid on a great hot buffet and the atmosphere and layout provide a perfect family place which includes the dance floor to allow for entertainment and disco. We love visiting this place for a walk and a drink, or light lunch or a big breakfast. It is relaxed and friendly and right on the green and woods making it a great place to stop.

We love to go to Blackwell's for the 'plate' breakfasts. They food is locally sourced and always well prepared and cooked. It is a cafe that provides good food in pleasant surroundings.

We called in, as we were in the area around lunchtime, and found a very warm welcome and efficient service, not too effusive as with some places, the full menu was on offer and were both delighted with our order - piping hot, good flavours, so no complaints - coffee afterwards was excellent and to our surprise the whole bill for two - main, dessert and coffee came to £23.80 - will certainly visit again.

It seems like unless you are local and 'Mates' with the people behind the bar, your money dose not buy you service. After 4 of 5 times here i have never been welcomed and its always seemed like my presence was an annoyance to the staff. They are fairly out of date not accepting contactless payment and a minimum of £5 on card.The Atmosphere has only ever been good when its full of people creating the atmosphere, i dont believe this is created by the management at all, it only have a buzz because its the only child friendly place to buzz. Food and drink is actually quite good, fulfilling its bistro title, and it even has a few good ales on tap. If you come here with a good group of people it can be nice but as 1 or 2 on your own you will end up buying things you don't want to make up a £5 charge and sitting in a moderately good place painted in sad and a little tatty hospital green, with a cluttered bar while the insular staff faf about taking there time. Shame really, it could be something really good.

Just had one of the best omelette ham and mushroom :-) I can also recommend there lamb shank with veg and mash lovely friendly staff service very good to :-)

I have now eaten here several times and tried several different meals. All have been great at a great price! Well worth a visit.

My fifth grandchild was christen in this village and we had the reception here, sorry the food was supplied by family we hired the hall.the drinks was very good.there is a children's play area some family members were saying the food is good but have wait awhile.but arrives HOT!!!!
