Lovely evening meal and great service. Fish pie, burger and everything we had was excellent and enjoyed by all of us. Would recommend.

Exelent food. Newchurch pie was really nice. £17 or £12 portion. I had the smaller portion which was very filling. Outstanding views across the island. Will highly recommend it.

Our first visit here and we loved it. They have truly nailed the ‘perfect guest experience’. From dog bics/blankets on arrival; warm and cosy atmosphere to stunning interior design and high-quality, well priced, tasty food. Staff were lovely and friendly. Cannot find any fault - well done! We will be back soon.

We ate here last year when on holiday previously and I have to say their standards have remained high...somewhere you can depend on to get excellent food. The bonus for us is that they welcome dogs! A t the entrance they have a pile of dog blankets and a jar of treats. I had the Mariners pie which was full of fish and my husband had the Newchurch Pie. Both were so good. I then had Raspberry Creme Brulee and I must say this is the best dessert I have had anywhere! My husband had the cheese board and was more than happy with that! There are also beautiful views if the weather is good enough to sit outside. Highly recommend. So pleased standards have remained high. Thank you.

I was disappointed in Sunday lunch yesterday 1st September as was very poor which is not like this resteraunt always good we've been many times before could be it was very busy due to holiday makers but still not exceptable

Struggled to get booked in during the week we were on IOW which is an excellent sign of good food! We ended up outside at 5:30 just so we could get in! We were so impressed!! Really easy to order online using the QR code and their free wifi. We had 3 courses and were so impressed with the quality quantity and service. Absolutely gorgeous food - really wish we could revisit this week but will look forward to it next holiday! Highly recommended and very reasonable!

Absolutely delicious food, cajun lamb from specials menu was amazing. We all enjoyed our food, one vegetarian another vegetarian and gluten intolerant but each of us had a positive experience, staff all vary helpful and friendly, a very positive experience and will be repeated!

Great service and menu choice. No idea why I’ve never been considering I live in Newport but it won’t be the last time. Had T bone asked for medium got it well done. Don’t complain as it was still tasty. Check back was a little late as I’d ate a lot of my food however the place was busy and the server couldn’t have done more they were brill .. fingers crossed spot on next time

A perfect evening meal. My pork belly was fantastic and the crème brûlée was to die for. The view from the table across to the Solent was beautiful. Service was excellent and fast even though the pub was busy.

Such a beautiful setting initially all staff so very helpful. Lady behind the bar amazing, sadly when we had drinks to the table, waiter took a trip and drinks went over. He wasn’t happy and blamed us. If our fault or not, sadly no need to throw tray and glasses on the grass hill. Had to go to the lovely lady at the bar to sort everything out. Food was lovely. Full tummy throughout our table of 12. Would I come back again, yes. Do I wish the staff hadn’t had a stress moment yes. Overall lovely evening out. 4.5 stars.

This is one of our favourite places to eat when staying at Thorness Bay. The service was good as usual. I had the ploughman’s which was with a lovely selection of cheeses and hand carved ham. My husband had the brevet of beef in a ciabatta which was cooked perfectly. There is water provided for our little dog and dog biscuits. We recommend a visit . Booking is essential as they get very busy.

Delicious food - the omelette and pavlova were the best I have ever had and everyone in my party loved their food too. Both the male and female server who visited our table were warm, friendly and helpful. The view is beautiful down into the valley behind. The toilets are clean and very well presented. We will definitely be back and next time we will book as we were lucky to get a table - it seemed very popular and we could see why.

We absolutely love this place. It really does tick all the boxes for us. Friendly, helpful staff, wonderful food, at great prices, set in a beautiful location. We had another great Sunday lunch yesterday and booked for dinner today. We always make a beeline for the wonderful 'Blacksmiths'. Children friendly, dog friendly. All boxes ticked. We've already booked for out next Island visit in September. Can't wait to see you all again!

This place is a lesson on what pub grub can be like The staff are always fantastic. The food is brilliant and the prices are excellent value for what you get on your plate. Never understand why other venues don’t quite follow suit.

An absoloute massive praise for the blacksmiths. They are on top of their game. Met with a warm welcome at the door by a young man, whose service was dynamic and beautiful. A kind touch was my mum who is now rather older and forgetful had been to my oldest brothers wedding this day, he complimented her outfit, and asked her about the day, it was really heartwarming to see my mother so happy and remembering. Even though I could see it was so busy he made time to listen to her story. You cant fake this kind of care from the server, it was truly appreciated. Food was delicious and we finished by sharing a pavlova. Thank you for finishing our day on such a high.

Lovely pub with great views. The staff were all really nice, was a fab evening, I am vegan so had the tofu katsu curry, nice big chunk of crunchy coated tofu and the rice was nice but the tiny amount of katsu curry sauce unfortunately was the consistency of water and very bland, I don't know if it is normally like this but it was disappointing, I had lemon tart for dessert which was amazing, just to add all the food is presented so lovely as well. I have had to knock a star off because the katsu sauce was not good 'sorry' but I will definitely go back.

A firm favourite place, the food is just excellent, the staff and owners are lovely, just can’t fault it. I had the newchurch pie, the flavours are incredible my sister had the shin of beef pie off the special board also equally excellent. A very popular place so you do need to book but well worth it.

After a few disappointing experiences in Ventnor, we decided we needed to venture further afield in search of something good! Excellent food here which all seemed like it was prepared with the customer in mind rather than the ease of preparation. Service was also very good and a particular shout out for the member of staff who greeted us as we arrived over half an hour early - before 5.00pm - and organised a couple of coffees. She was dynamic - seemed to be everywhere and, by the time any other servers arrived, she already had 14 guests in the restaurant but seemed to have it all under control - showing everyone to tables, serving drinks, & taking food orders! If everyone displayed this sort of work ethic and enthusiasm for the job, the U.K. would not be in quite the decline that it is! All round excellent pub restaurant.

Unbelievable quality of food, perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. Great staff delivering excellent service. Have been many times over the years and have always loved it. It just keeps getting better and better. Possibly the best pub food on the Isle of Wight. Restaurant standard. You need to book well in advance, weeks not days.

Such a lovely restaurant. We hadn't booked but despite being extremely busy (always a good sign) they found us a table. We had the Roast Beef Sunday Lunch and the Vegetarian Sunday Roast and both were so so tasty. Service was brilliant. In all I would thoroughly recommend this place.

Have eaten every time we come to the Island as it is very good. But today I have to say that the Roast Dinner wasn't all that. On arrival we were greeted by a very polite young lady who showed us to our table and within a couple of minutes the waiter took our food and drinks order. The table was booked for 90 minutes and there were people waiting who had not booked. We both ordered the Trio Meat Roast. When it came out I have to say it looked amazing. A large bit of Pork Belly with a very small slither of lamb and beef. The beef looked was very chewy and tough to cut and the lamb also like the beef. The Pork Belly was dry considering that it has a lot of fat on it ( the best part ) and the crackling was very chewy and unable to cut. Could have done with more gravy on the dinner or a small boat of gravy to put on the dinner. The vegetables were great but the roast potatoes also a let down. The prices for a roast dinner here I feel are a good price but I did expect more quality than what I had been served. It's not a Sunday Carvery which is a good thing but this is the 1st time ever that I had come away feeling very disappointed. Would we come back...........oh yes we would but not for the roast. We were in and out within 40 minutes despite the table being booked for 90 minutes. Fingers crossed the next meal we have will be perfect like all the other times we've visited. Most probably get Black Listed at The Black Smiths now ☹️

I've been to The Blacksmith's a number of times, most recently was lunch on a warm Sunday; service was friendly and polite, the food did take some time to come out but it seemed busy inside so we didn't mind.We sat outside which is a lovely area, the views are second to none with fields stretching as far as the eye can see.I've had their specials in the past which have been brilliant; this time however I had the sirloin, I can never profess to be an expert but I asked for rare and it was delicious. I was kicking myself for not ordering a sauce but it came with a puree of sorts that was rich and flavourful, all in all a really enjoyable meal. Will definitely be back again soon.

Are first time visit to the Blacksmiths Arms since the takeover, haven eaten at the Pointer Inn we assumed the food would be of good quality and was not disappointed.The lamb pie is beautiful.My only problem was the desert came out for my wife with a chocolate base under the waffles which is not noted on the menu, fine if you like chocolate but she doesn't and all the staff said was sorry it should say something not here's your money back for our mistake on providing you with something you do not like.That's the only reason for zen average, Other than that fine.

Used to eat here regularly. This was first visit under new ownership. Found the lady behind bar pushy and not very welcoming. Menu not as much variety as before. The food we had (If the burger had been cooked properly) would of been really nice but overpriced for what it is and lack of service (no table service have to get your cutlery- the prices they charging I'd expect better service) also asked for no salad - guess what arrived with salad! The waiter the young lad was really good and lovely. One of my favourite food places no more. Also tried to fit in too many seats and now very crowded. Would still pop in for a drink because you can't beat the view.

I went for a works leaving do and everybody's food was amazing. Great they also the 'half portion' options with some mains and puddings (I had this for the pork belly and pavlova and it was enough for me). My only criticism ( and this in no way affects your enjoyment ) is the new decoration is a bit 'twee' and didn't feel like it fitted in and the steps down to the lower car park are overgrown. All in all I can't wait to go back.

Visited the Blacksmiths Arms for dinner with my husband.When we arrived it was very busy and there were no tables free in the main restaurant. However the young lady who greeted us said we were more than welcome to sit at the bar and either wait for a spare table or eat on a high table in the bar area. We chose to do the latter.I chose the roast chicken, lemon and thyme rissoto and my husband had a mixed grill. All I can say is that both dishes were fantastic. My rissoto was devine, the rice cooker perfectly, it was creamy but not heavy and had the perfect amount of lemon and thyme. My husband's mixed grill was a truly proper mixed grill. No scrimping on the amount of meat, unlike some places where you have a small piece of everything, it came with a fried egg, chips and a large salad.We also had dessert, homemade profiteroles and strawberry Pavlova. Both truly naughty and decadent. We will defiantly be booking a return visit so that we can take in the amazing views from the restaurant.

We had a lovely evening in the garden. I had the ceaser salad which was light, fresh and very tasty. My partner had the garlic chicken, he was pleased as there was lots of sauce - all to often you go places and there is never enough sauce. It was great to have quality food in a relaxed location with beautiful views.

My grandmother booked us a table here for my grandads 70th birthday. We were really looking forward to it as we have heard really good things about it and my parents had a lovely meal a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, the table had been double booked and a whole group of us had to find somewhere else to eat at short notice - which is especially hard in the summer holidays (Thankfully we ended up going to The Breeze @ island harbour -- they were fully booked but made us up a table after hearing about this encounter). My grandmother couldn't understand why this happened as she'd left her name and details if any problems occurred but was talked back at by a female member of staff as if she didn't matter. The way members of staff treated and talked to my elderly grandmother was disgraceful. They are incredibly rude and obviously very incapable of working professionally in customer service. This has put us off completely and we probably won't return any time soon unless they sort their staff out. Hire some staff with manners and that can do their job properly!

Having lived on the Island many years ago, I return annually to visit and stay with friends and attend a yearly reunion with ex colleagues. for the past couple of years I have booked a meal for my family and our friends at The Pointer Inn, which I did again this year, however I was informed that the owners had also taken over The Blacksmiths Arms, so I went to the Blacksmiths and ask to change the Monday lunch Pointer booking to the Blacksmiths, no problem whatsoever. We were joined unexpectedly by more friends the staff moved tables to seat us all together, without fuss and smiles on their faces. The food choice is amazing, we were a table of 9, everyone enjoyed their meal, it was such good quality, so well presented, of the highest standard, well done. We were seated with views across the fields to the mainland. There were approx. 4 waiting staff 3 ladies and one young man, the most pleasant, helpful people you could wish for. The only difficult part of the visit is choosing only one of the main courses! I will solve this next year by making several visits. The new owners have only had The Blacksmiths about 12 weeks, but what a job they have done on it, its good, very, very, good, and it is going to be a massive success, don't miss a visit.

Since the pub has been upgraded, its very comfortable, smart and welcoming. Happy attentive staff and good selection of meals at reasonable prices. I would recommend a visit.

Ahora administrado por la misma gente del puntero en Newchurch decidimos ir de visita. Reservamos una mesa que es aconsejable nos recibió con una cálida bienvenida y bebidas llevaron a nuestra mesa y ordenados. Después pedimos comida, fui por la parrillada mixta y mi esposa pidió la panceta de cerdo con puré de manzana en una salsa. La comida llegó rápidamente y bien caliente. Mi parrillada mixta fue uno de los mejores que he probado y sin problemas de elección de la mujer. Para budín elegimos una fresa Pavlova y Profiteroles con Crema de caramelo, tanto hielo salados, eran increíbles. En general, una fantástica comida, servicio y sin duda llamar de nuevo. Asegúrate de reservar para evitar decepciones.

He comido en el herreros durante un número de años, antes de la comida y el servicio era bueno, pero los nuevos propietarios han llevado a un nuevo nivel. El menú es variado, el magnífico servicio y la calidad de la comida es excepcional. Llamé para almorzar un corto hace tiempo y pedí un plowmans he de decir que fue el mejor que han servido con manzana, uvas, apio, cebolla encurtida, condimentos, una gran porción de queso y jamón 2 grandes rebanadas de pan fresco recién cortada en rodajas + cálido. Pruébalo y juzga por ti mismo.

Nos encontramos con este maravilloso lugar en húmedo de comer sólo buscando café. Decidimos tomar un aperitivo como la comida que venía tenía una pinta estupenda, y no nos decepcionó. Mi compañero tenía un sándwich de queso o jamón y tuve un plato caliente ensalada de pato de los aperitivos y ambos fueron excelentes, así como el café. Excelente personal y ambiente significaba que se salvó un poco lúgubre julio día!

Seguimos el bombo a este lugar en un domingo por la noche de julio a las 6 de la tarde, pensando que sería sólo a partir servicio de comida, de hecho, se terminó la comida a las 6 de la tarde un domingo que me tiró un poco. Para su crédito, no cabía en pero me pareció un poco apresurada, solemos ir para empezar pero sentimos que sería quemada en la hoguera si nos extendimos la comida a más de un plato principal.

Estuvimos aquí en el camino a Carisbrooke Castle. Muy concurrida y no habíamos reservado, pero nos las arreglamos para conseguir una mesa fuera, que era bueno como un buen día. Fantásticas vistas y mesas bien separadas, así que no te sientes lleno. Todos teníamos el asado del domingo, que en £10 es excelente relación calidad-precio y, lo que es más importante, de buena calidad. Hortalizas y patatas tostadas eran excelentes y grandes pudding de Yorkshire. Se podría haber tenido dos comentarios sólo podría ser un poco más de salsa y la carne cortadas un poco más gruesas.

El pub situado a las afueras de Newport sirve comida que coincida con las fantásticas vistas, desde el restaurante. La comida es casera y de excelente calidad. El servicio era excelente y aunque lleno no sensación de claustrofobia. Bien merece una visita, pero es probablemente necesario.

Los herreros de armas merece todas las buenas críticas que recibe. Las vistas son inolvidables, así como la comida, especialmente los que son para morirse (como yo casi no, gracias a la memorable pasteles de cangrejo tailandés también, pero no por las razones correctas). Siempre ocupado el personal es amable y servicial. Pero poco se proporciona para ayudar a alguien con un problema de movilidad y no podía ver cualquier posible acceso para sillas de ruedas.

Tuvimos una comida allí este fin de semana. El lugar estaba lleno con las mesas tan cerca juntos y muy ruidoso. La comida era buena, pero no una buena relación calidad-precio! La cerveza era de £4. 40 una pinta no es el fin del mundo, pero debe ser la más cara en Newport. El personal era muy amable y elegantemente uniformados, si un poco agobiante para tomar nuestra orden y claro la mesa. Las vistas son fantásticas y su impecable por dentro, así que vale la pena una visita en una noche tranquila, pero evita los fines de semana!

Tuvimos una excelente comida en el Pub, el servicio, la comida, y las vistas son excepcionales. El pub estaba muy lleno, pero esto no significó el servicio se cayó corto en cualquier momento, nos dijeron que nuestra comida sería media hora pero y qué! Valió la pena la espera. Es un pub que pone las cosas en muchos puntos. Bien preparados a un buen precio y todo hecho con cuidado y orgullo.

Estábamos de camino al ferry de regreso desde Cowes y encontré este fantástico restaurante justo fuera de Newport. Sólo quería un aperitivo así que tres de nosotros pedimos un sandwich de carne salada, que parecía un poco caro a £7. 00. No es cierto, estaba lleno de carne y vino con un plato de ensalada y otro plato de patatas fritas; era delicioso. Las bebidas a un precio razonable, un amplio aparcamiento y una fantástica vista añade al encanto de este hotel de primera categoría. Ignorar los comentarios downbeat, este es un gran lugar para visitar.

Normalmente tenemos una noche de chicas una vez al mes y decidimos dar el herreros una visita después de oír buenas críticas y nos decepcionará. Encantador y vistas al campo, Solent amables anfitriones y comida deliciosa, ah y buena cerveza me encanta el Wight de oro. Una gran idea para hacer los platos principales y postres grandes y pequeños. Sin duda volveremos, recomiendo reservar fuimos un miércoles por la noche y estaba bastante concurrida.

Visited on Saturday very busy good menu however well overpriced this is a country pub not a London restaurant. I visit this pub last year and it was fantastic and great value for money however I learned on my visit it has just been taken over by new owners only a week ago I think this pub has gone downhill it just a glorified upmarket restaurant with new owners trying to make as much money as they can expensive avoid this pub

Escondido entre la campiña es el Herreros. Teníamos asientos que dieron unas impresionantes vistas de la isla y el continente. El personal de servicio estaba bajo presión, pero siempre es bueno humor. La comida era excelente, y la opción de porciones más pequeñas, es genial. Rob y Rachel han llevado sus formula ganadora aquí. Recomiendo encarecidamente, pero reserva primero y no vienen si te gusta comer de prisa.

I am a tad embarrassed - after spending the best part of 4 decades bobbing around the globe, on business and on pleasure, the allure of the Isle of Wight has always bypassed me, even though it is only a couple of hours - door to door - from our Sussex home. I have recently remedied this oversight.

Very friendly helpful staff. Wonderful setting. Food was excellent with smaller portions on offer enjoyed a lovely 3 courses. Throughly recommend

Probamos el Steak & Ale tarta y el estofado de carne salada, ambos eran muy sabrosos ambos tuvimos la vida local Ale park para beber. Este pub es muy perros con mucha agua y también nos dieron algunos huesos de la salsa. Un jardín muy cuidado y ordenado tenía unas vistas impresionantes sobre el campo hacia el solant.

Guau, Rob y Rachel realmente han hecho increíblemente con este lugar. Yo vivo cerca de los punteros y ir allí regularmente y está impecable, así que sabía que esto sería increíble y yo estaba justo. Teníamos un asado el domingo de la semana pasada y todas tenían un flan. Todo era tan agradable! El personal, el entorno, la comida y la compañía. Velada con amigos en el recientemente re-pub remodelados, bajo nueva dirección. Dirigido a una determinada ventana mesa reservada, que en una noche caliente de junio fue perfecta. Buen menú, no había muchas opciones, pero cosas interesantes. Nuestra bienvenida, servicio y toda la comida era muy, muy bueno. Muy bonito restaurante limpio. Buena comida, un personal que trabaja duro, a un precio razonable. Cuatro de nosotros comimos y nos sirvieron muy rápido a pesar de estar completamente lleno. El personal era muy eficiente y amable. La comida se servía en conjunto y estaba caliente. . Vista fantástica desde el comedor. La única queja fue que el número de moscas en el restaurante, necesidades electrónicas" del zapper". Volvería de nuevo y se lo recomendaría a mis amigos.

No aconsejable reservar, pero como sólo nos encajaba en un almuerzo. Había cuatro de nosotros, todos teníamos diferentes platos y quedamos muy contentos. Nuestros parientes mayores porciones más pequeñas que eran perfectas para ellos. Definitivamente volveré de nuevo si en la isla.

Went for Sunday lunch. Main course good but spoilt by poor vegetables. (Parsnip should be cooked properly). Service friendly but because they were busy, was slow.

Reservamos una mesa para el almuerzo en un jueves y el aparcamiento de coches y pub eran un bloque choc, el típico signo de que la comida es buena. Y fue, y por encima de nuestra habitual de cinco restaurantes pub que nos gusta y que vamos regularmente. Tanto los aperitivos y platos principales bien pensado, cebollas llena de sabor especialmente el plato de merluza con ensalada de patata, puré de cangrejos, cosechas perdidas primavera pea - mmm. El servicio era amable y no demasiado tiempo para esperar entre campos, y que estaban muy ocupados. Modernizado la decoración estilo country, justo y un gran chic, zona de estar al aire libre con vistas, muy elegante. Altamente recomendado.

Tuvimos una comida agradable todos estábamos muy contentos con lo que teníamos 3 de nosotros tuvimos la tarta que estaba delicioso Newchurch 1 tenía la solla y que también fue muy bueno.
