Booked for Sunday carvery. £50 deposit paid. After the meal everyone paid full price for their meals individually. Therefore we asked for the deposit back. Told that it had been taken off the price which was not correct. Did get the deposit back after questioning this again. Disappointed that nut roast is advertised on the board but when asked for it was told it was unavailable. Also had to ask for another glass due to stains on it. I must say the food was nice. Just checked the Food Hygiene Rating Report. Rated as 2 last year. Improvements needed.

In the area visiting family and we popped in for lunch. Two of us had ham, egg and chips and the other a lasagne. The food was splendid. Huge portions, well-cooked and very tasty. The homemade chips are lush! The service was great. We got a very warm welcome and felt very much at home. Lovely food, lovely people - just wish we lived closer!

Local village pub, Just been in with family; we live in village. Go to the pub most weekends.definitely won’t be anymore! The pub is dirty, so are the glasses. Drinks are overpriced and staff are rude. Food is greasy. Just asked the barman at 4pm on a Sunday if we could have a seat at a table, he said yes, great. Order and paid for a round of overpriced drink to be asked me move within 5 mins. Confronted the woman behind the bar and she just shrugged and walked off. Real shame it’s gone downhill this way, apparently the landlord has a history of running his multiple pubs this way. Please sell it to someone who will look after the pub and the locals! Always busy on a Sunday for a roast but don’t be fooled, food is left out under hot lights for hours and not changed between sittings!

Came here on the same date last year, the place was very lively ,food smelt great , unfortunately couldn't get a booking for the Friday or Saturday. (Must have been very good) Visited the area this year, made a beeline for the Blacksmiths arms, got a booking for 7,girl over the phone seemed very pleasant 👌 now I don't know if it's changed hands or something, walked in.....wasn't many people in, the place looked a little sad....got 2 drinks in dirty glasses (didn't really notice till halfway) ordered food....it came reasonably quick ...ordered the creamy Cajun chicken.....can honestly say don't think there was any cream in the sauce,it was like a Cajun soup with overcooked chicken, and chips going soggy in it. A lasagna that looked a good portion but the taste let it down, had better from a Tesco's ready meal. The cutlery that was given was dirty also, had to grab some more. Back to the chicken.....when I explained about it.....was asked to bring the food back to the bar ......not a member of staff collect it from my table, it was changed and a better creamy sauce but same chicken still in it, chips where seperate this time. Although the sauce was better.....didn't finish the tough chicken, my partner had left her lasagna . The table in front of us didn't enjoy their meals also. Well 3 out of 4...apparently the ham & eggs were nice 👍 It seemed like it was a family affair making an attempt to run a pub but failing , appearance of staff was scruffy ....overall .....not a clean professional outfit. It seems a harsh review but I can only go on my honest experience which wasn't good. I couldn't recommend it or even go back Have pics of dirty cutlery & dirty glasses but unfortunately cannot attach.

Needs some money spending on this place. The drinks and food are nice but the environment needs some work. The beer garden could be made to look lovely. We ventured here from the solar trail for drinks. The location is ideal but the place needs some investment. The beer garden tables are old rickety things that are literally falling to bits.

We visited here during the week for lunch the pub was very cold and quiet. We ordered food at the bar Steak pie and fish goujon sandwich. They took a while to come out when it arrived my husband asked for extra gravy the lady made an issue over people ordering gravy and not using it!! My husband then said just bring half a jug. My goujons were 2 thickly battered pieces of fish not goujons and were served in a dry sesame topped burger bun with chips and mushy peas. The chips were lovely. My husband said his pie tasted nice but only 5 pieces of meat and the pastry was thin and more of a covering to the pie dish as it didn’t sit on top of the filling which made it dry!! When paying the bill my husband questioned it £42 we also had 1pint and a half lager. The lady then stated the extra gravy was £2.50 which we were not told about when ordering I think it was very expensive for an average lunch meal and will not be returning. I was not complaining about the amount of fish just the fact I was expecting goujons as it was stated in the menu it was a sandwich. I also heard the gentleman that brought the food say to the lady behind the bar I think we should put the heating back on. I can honestly say that no one mentioned the extra charge for gravy and maybe our mistake that we didn’t look at the sides I just think when your paying over £16 for pie it should come with extra gravy just my opinion

Thursday night, had the pie, ham chicken and leek! Just watery sauce, big chunks of salty gammon, pastry was just thrown on the top, not crimped to make it look nice, no slits to let steam out so pastry hard on top and soggy underneath! Absolutely diabolical food. Burn't chips that certainly weren't fresh, fried eggs burn't too. Poor little boy served the food along with chef - this I would question as certainly no cook. When my husband complained the child was sent to the table to deal with it & brought more chips that were the same. I was unable to eat my meal & my husband & son left most of theirs. A never again experience. I question the legality too of the child working.

Had been on the river ouse with friends who invited us on a self hire boat. All 4 of us decided to have a main meal. 2 had fish and chips, 2 had pie of the day. Pie of day was chicken and ham. Price of all main meals seemed to be £15-95,sandwiches were £12-95!!!!Food came!fish and chips were apparently ok (no complaints from our friends)The pies???they were in a pie dish with an incredibly thin crust, very little ham and very little chicken but lots of juice. They were accompanied by mashed spuds and mushy peas. We asked for gravy for the pies which came a few minutes later. Trouble was that the plates were cold, so the spuds and peas were almost cold and unfortunately so was the gravy. We were extremely hungry so we ate the food. We should have eaten at the marina. The staff at the pub were extremely attentive and couldn't do enough for you. However the food didn't match their enthusiasm and helpfulness. Try this place yourself you might have a better experience, sadly we won't visit again.

Decent Google reviews for restaurant and proximity to campsite persuaded us to try the Blacksmiths Arms for our Friday evening meal. While service and location were great, sadly the food was not. Small fish & luke warm chips (basically the burnt scraps from the bottom of the fryer), and chicken was tough as old boots although the sauce was tasty. To be fair our chips were replaced when we complained & maybe the chef had an off day but sorry to say serious improvements are needed before we could recommend eating here.

We were staying at a nearby campsite and asked there for somewhere local to eat. We were told she'd had mixed reviews about the Blacksmiths Arms, and there was somewhere with really good food a bit further away. We opted to walk to the Blacksmiths and save the better pub for the next evening when friends were joining us. When we arrived there were about 50 bikers outside with their bikes and we were a tad nervous about what we would find inside. We asked for food but the kitchen had closed so we were going to just have a drink and leave but the landlord offered to make us a plate of fish and chips so we stayed as the only other option wouldve been a sandwich in the van. Omg what a surprise, the fish was fresh and ENORMOUS and the batter was gloriously home made as were the chips. The staff were delightful and it was honestly the best meal we've had in this country in the 3 years we've been back here from travelling. When our friends came we ate there again and they were amazed at the quality of the food too, two of us had the Cajun chicken, one had the lasagna and my partner had burger and chips and we all thoroughly enjoyed them. We will certainly have no hesitation in recommending this pub not just for the food but for the super friendly staff and wonderful landlord who opened his kitchen again for us happily after being overwhelmed by bikers arriving unannounced at his village pub. Fantastic place.

We had a busy few hours shopping so were in need of a reviving cup of coffee or tea. I really didn’t fancy a coffee chain coffee so we popped up to the Coppergate Kitchen in Fenwicks. It was a Bank Holiday so I expected it to be busy but there was plenty of space. It was a lovely oasis of calm. Service was very quick with lovely, smart and professional staff attending to our needs. In the end we only ordered a flat white and an Americano, both with hot milk but they were really good cups of coffee. The menu looked good but we didn’t eat on this occasion. As someone who is often solo shopping I would definitely feel comfortable coming to this venue alone. Update: late June 2024 and I have visited again as a solo coffee drinker. This is such a lovely venue! Light, spacious, customer care is second to none and the staff are great! I did treat myself to a piece of wheat free orange polenta cake- more expensive than I would normally pay -but a generous portion, beautifully fresh and tasty (and I’m worth it😹!)
