Blacksmiths Arms are a favourite of ours. Went on holiday on the Lincolnshire coast we make a point of lunching here. Once again we were not disappointed with the friendly service and the excellent food. We both chose the seafood patter and it was indeed very good. I was especially delighted by the chips which were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.

We have used the Blacksmith’s Arms as our regular special eating place. However, it is time to stop. On our visit last night to celebrate my wife’s birthday, the food for the second time was not up to a high standard. My pate starter was good. But main course of mixed grill was… The egg was OK. The black pudding was very dry. The sausage was overcooked. The triple cooked chips.. were definitely not triple cooked. They were limp and tasted poor. The beef was a bit over cooked. The chicken and pork were both incredibly dry. They were thin as of out of a supermarket pack. I could not eat them at all. My wife’s Seabass was a bit overcooked and there were no vegetables on offer. Chips again were poor. I am sorry to say that after a really poor visit, we have decided that the food did not reach the level we were used to. I don’t know why the food was so poor, not what we expected or wanted. I do hope the standard reverts to its former level.

Booked a table for Sunday dinner for 5 people. We arrived early so we could have a drink in their tiny beer garden at the back. If only we actually got a drink. After being told at the bar she was pouring a busy order and to sit out back and someone would take our order, it took them 20 minutes to come take our order. We didn't get our drinks until 40 minutes later whilst sat outside in hot weather. If it wasn't for there being nothing else around we would have walked away. When the drinks arrived we were then seated to our table and given menus, we asked to order straight away since we didn't know how long food was going to be since 5 drinks took 1 hour! Food came 45 minutes later and thankfully we were not disappointed! The food was spot on and great portions! Unfortunately, the staff at this place are too young, don't have a clue what table service is, are too slow and are not being managed. We won't be coming back due to how long it took them to serve. So as long as you've got no where else to be, this is the place for you

Staying in the village for a weeks hoilday. We visited the Blacksmiths Arms twice. Sunday Lunch and a Thursday evening meal. It is a friendly Old village pub, nice atmosphere, with a small bar serving a few real Ales and a wide selevtion of Gins. Sectioned into different rooms, with 2 rooms more dedicated for dining. Food was really good and a mix up with one of our meals was quickly resolved. The staff were very efficient and friendly, and the Bar manager was especially friendly and chatty, regularly checking that everything was ok with out meals. Would recommend the pies and Fish and chips!!

Over some years, living within the area, we were aware that the pub had achieved a chequered history regarding quality of service, indifference shown by staff and overlong waits between courses. Now, under new ownership and management team, this scenario has completely changed. Sarah and her team offer a warm welcome, attentive service, excellent fare at reasonable prices, good beers and attractive wine selection. The atmosphere and ambience has justifiably increased, as a result of their hard work and commitment. A great place to add to your eating out experience.

So disappointed, we have been using this restaurant for many years however it seems a change of management is making a mess of things. From arriving at 8:00pm and not leaving until 11:00 and we didn’t bother with deserts we’d had enough 😡. Simply because the staff don’t appear to have any idea, 2/3 of starters arrived then the rest 10+ minutes later the same issues with mains constant apologies for a restaurant manager ( I would prefer her to do her job than chat about her up coming holiday) some aspects of meals were cold others overcooked, waitresses clearly had very little training and instructions. Someone needs to sort things out and quickly. One good remark the lady looking after the bar 👍🏼

A good traditional country pub in a lovely location. The pub is clean and welcoming with a fairly large seating area to the rear. The menu includes the sort of things you would expect to find in a village pub and offers a fair choice, especially considering we went mid week for lunch. I had fish, chips and mushy peas. The fish was excellent and tasted very fresh with a crisp and flavoursome batter. For me there were too many chips and oddly some seemed to be over cooked and others undercooked. While the chips let meal down a bit the mushy peas saved the day and I would happily have had a plate of fish and mushy peas. I ordered a cup of tea which tasted antiseptic and was a disappointing end to the meal. I would go again if someone invited me there but probably wouldn't make it my first choice.

Beautiful spot, lovely staff and great food. Unfortunately it was a warm evening and the flies were a real pain. I know when doors and windows are open and near open fields doesn't help. Just felt maybe some burners on the table or screens on the doors may have helped. We sat down to eat our food and both tables next to us had folk flapping their arms constantly and drinks covered with napkins. It did spoil it for us, we would go again but sit somewhere else or colder months. I know nature but please staff try and deter if possible.

After eating here a couple of weeks ago and have a delicious meal, decided to return with visiting family for Sunday lunch. They have a large array of gins on display but when G&T was ordered no choice was given. The Sunday lunch was a very good portion and meat was lovely, however the vegetables were extremely al dente, which was fine for some of our party but not others ( they tasted like they had literally been shown the boiling water). The plates were taken away and we were asked if we wanted any more drinks. We sat for quite a long while and were never offered dessert or coffee so in the end paid the bill and left. It’s not like they were exceptionally busy as the restaurant area was empty and there were some people sitting outside. The two staff that we saw were rushing around doing a great job but it obviously needed more staff to give us the attention we expected. Shame, very disappointing.

As we were next door to The Blacksmiths Arms there was no need to cook, the food at the Blacksmiths is first class so we ate there every night. A fantastic menu with enough dishes to satisfy every one , my favorite were the Cod loin , and the belly pork. The chef really knows his way around a kitchen and is a real talent. The staff and the owner could not of been more helpful and made our stay and dining experience special. Visited this place in 2017, was lovely then, come back to Lincolnshire and find it has changed hands and not for the better. Ordered the only item on lunch menu for a vegetarian (mushroom, spinach and Brie Wellington). Along with fish and chips and two lots of gammon steaks. Where do I start, firstly my veggie Wellington contained meat, has now made me feel sick to the stomach after eating a few mouthfuls and realising it had meat in it, the waiter/barman did apologise, took the meal away and replaced free of charge the proper meal I ordered, but by then most of the others had finished their meals , you trust a food establishment to get it right first time, good job none of us had an allergy. Secondly fish came smothered in sea salt, would be better without and you could put salt on if you chose too, thirdly the gammon steaks were over cooked, tough as old boots and again very very salty so both steaks were half left. I do not recommend this place, sadly from a quaint country pub it’s now more gastro, not worth it

We came for a meal on September 12th 4 adults & 2 children. We all had a starters Garlic mushrooms, pate, Fishcake & Brie & they were really nice. Then onto the mains we had 2 chicken goujons for the kids and they were really nice, I really like going out and seeing kids meals with actual real food rather than bought in frozen bits. 2 fish platters with fishcake, scampi, fish goujons which were enjoyed. We also had the Lamb burger which he said was ok a little dry not as good as last time he came. Then I had a pork trio which was ok I was a little disappointed with the small piece of belly Pork as I like a good crispy skin on it but it was just soggy fat, the sausage was a little over cooked almost shrivelled up but it was ok, then the pork fillet which was lovely, cooked perfect, I could of eaten a plate full of pork fillet cooked like that, the black pudding was also good. The veg that came out with it was a bit late i had nearly eaten my meal by the time it came. Then onto the puddings, we had Creme brûlée which my partner said was really nice but it didn’t have the crack which I know she likes on a brûlée, also a cheesecake which was lovely & I had the chocolate chip sponge which was average. They were very busy it did seem like there was only 2 staff members on the floor which really reflects on the visit. I know we all have cut backs etc but we had to keep asking for drinks, having another member of staff would of probably sold us another 2 rounds of drinks at least & that was just our table. So having that extra member sometimes does pay off giving the diners a little more attention.Overall a good night out & we will be back

6 people came here on Tuesday 15 September. Having all eaten here in the past. All of us were hoping for an enjoyable evening meal. Great company Lovely setting. Well, 2 out of three was not good enough. Especially the bad one costing us £189.00. This meal was nowhere near and I mean nowhere up to its usual standard.

The TripAdvisor score of 1, does not reflect on the food and servers, who get a mini-review below. Please read all of the review.Went to The Blacksmith's Arms on Bank Holiday Monday as part of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme and a bit of an end of summer jaunt booked by the father-in-law (FiL) for us. When booking, was advised to be in before 6:45 to make sure we were served before a large party of 17 (more later...). The restaurant was busy.Arrived c18:30 and the order was not taken until c18:55.SERVICE: The server we had was helpful and ensured that our needs were met, including the change in vegetables for our daughter. On taking our order, the server informed us straight away that we would be waiting for food. The server apologised for delay and constantly apologised for the delay. The server was polite and apologetic. There were only two servers, in an incredibly busy restaurant. Service Score: 5/5FOOD: Tom, the chef, is an excellent cook. His food is excellently prepared and served hot. The wife and the FiL had garlic mushrooms to begin and, as expected met expectations. The mains were of a decent standard, but not quite the higher levels, due to there being more orders and strain put on the kitchen staff. No desserts.Food Score: 4/5EXPERIENCE: This, sadly is where the review is negative. Living locally, this USED to be a lovely country eatery and more of a 'treat'. It was taken over possibly 18 months ago (I am not fully sure), so this was my first experience under the new management. A management, that I am sad to report, seem to have little regard for the customers they have, and little respect at their constructive criticisms). During our meal, my FiL and I spoke about the delay because we were not served before the large party. Starters were brought out at c20:00, over ONE HOUR after ordering. The mains were then brought out at c20:45 (approaching TWO HOURS after ordering). The chips on my FiL's plate appeared to me to be refried as the potato had almost disintegrated and their were very greasy, compared to my wife's chips that were very fresh and of better quality. We were informed that as the kitchen had so many orders, the management then placed an order for food for themselves! At the end of the meal, whilst I was waiting to pay, my FiL asked the owner for a word outside. I sent my wife out to just keep an eye on proceedings. To my shock, I heard the owner launching a tirade of abuse at my FiL, scaring my 6-year-old daughter in the process. Thankfully, he was not as abusive towards me, but I merely tried to point out the following:- Why were we served AFTER the large party, despite being told we would be before?- If the restaurant was so busy, why was he not helping out in some way? The owner, to his credit, did say that he helped cooked some meals in the kitchen himself. My answer, "why not cook more then?"- If the restaurant was so busy, why was he not turning people away, instead of piling more pressure on the skeleton staff he clearly had.Unfortunately, he could not answer of my questions directly. The owner was clearly not happy with the feedback and demanded we don't pay, not in the apologetic manner, but the "I don't want your money" manner. He was supported by his equally rude wife, how almost tried to grab my card. However, because we had eaten food and there were wages to pay, we paid accordingly. What used to be a lovely country pub/restaurant has been ruined by a very rude couple at the helm. Until we get wind of a management change, we shall not be returning.Experience Score: 1/5

So glad we spotted the signpost on our way back from a long dog walk. We took the chance that they’d still be serving food at 3pm on a Sunday, they were and it was fabulous. I had a Sunday roast...beef with all the trimmings, absolutely delicious the beef was cooked perfectly; served with both roast and creamed potatoes accompanied by a very generous portion of vegetables, large yorkshire pud and yummy gravy! Hubby had the fish and chips, again very generous portion and excellent homemade chips...the dog enjoyed a couple of them too!The staff were very friendly and attentive. Definitely recommend!

Joanne must have suffered an unfortunate one off, but PLEASE give it a try for yourself. My wife and I went to find somewhere for a quiet meal to cheer ourselves up. Nowhere was open and we decided to go into skegness, on route we saw the sign for Blacksmiths arms. We found it and they were due to close, but rather than turn us away they said they can fit in a main only. I've been to some good places but the food here was outstanding. So much so we had my birthday meal there with friends who travelled from Blackpool especially. They said it was worth the drive just for the food they were served. I don't do reviews as a rule but I couldn't believe anyone could say the food and service here was bad. Unless they were upset about something and wanted to make someone pay. When I get some work we'll be back.

Booked a table for 8pm for 5people. Sat outside waiting, due to social distancing, and was offered to eat our food outside, which we accepted. Menus took a while to come and around 2minutes later a blonde lady came to take our order. We hadn’t properly had chance to look so I asked for a few more minutes, the look the lady gave me was disgusting. She rolled her eyes, tutted and said ‘alright’. If the kitchen was closing soon, then understandably (if she’d of mentioned that) we would of hurried but no explanation from her, just a filthy look. A gentleman came to take our order later who was lovely. Food came and half way through it started to rain, no help from staff to help come inside (inside was empty). After we had finished, they took our plates and gave us no option for desserts. If you have a table of people in, your surely have to finish their order fully, whether that be when kitchen closed or not? I wont be attending again, the lady ruined my experience.

We visited on our way to Ingoldmells and we were really glad we did. On arrival there was hand sanitiser in place and the place was very clean. We were greeted in a lovely warm manner and made to feel welcome. All staff wore ppe. We ordered the food. I had a steak and onion ciabatta - the steak was tender, chips lovely even the salad was lovely and fresh. My son had the carbonara and it was the best we had ever tasted. If we do pass that way again it will certainly be a place to return to.

if you're thinking of going for a meal out I'd take your friends or family to a fast food restaurant instead as you'll probably have a better experience. Took forever for the food to turn up when I went there, manager was rude when we asked about it and when it did eventually arrive it was overcooked and tasted bland.

We have been going to this place since I was 11 I’m nearly 37 , we went when bob and Stuart had it ( it was thriving ) unfortunately they left , we’ve seen so many people have it . The owners now have done it up amazing looks fab , but the prices are Ridiculous the new menu is just offering big plates so you think your getting more for ur money ( but ur getting less ) , the service is slow some of the staff need to learn to smile and the bar staff . Won’t be rushing back . Want a nice meal in the day go to cafe on the cobbles in Alford food fantastic value for money

a group of us went for a sunday roast lunch, the food was good but the service left much to be desired. We were served the meat but by the time the rest of the meal was served, almost 20 minutes later for some the meat was cold. We then waited ages for the dessert menu and even longer for the food. Will not go again

Due to there being a group of us going for lunch, we had to order our meals several days in advance. I ordered a prawn sandwich in sliced bread. only to be told on arrival there was no sliced bread. My ‘sandwich ‘ was presented in a very thick lump of ciabatta which was dry with no butter on it. The sauce had steeped into the bread making a soggy mess. This was served with a large amount of finely chopped up ( I think) salad leaves. Disgusting meal, won’t be back.

We have eaten here a few times last year and the food hasn't been too bad.Today however was utterly atrocious. We suggested this place to my wife's parents and left embarrassed that we did. When trying to book here you are nearly always told that they are full or need to book earlier. When we have then gone for just a drink and noticed the place is less than half full it leads you to wonder if the place has enough staff to cope for the tables it has.Again today the place was left than half full yet still the 4 of us were seated next to the kitchen. We had the delight of being able to listen to the kitchen staff swearing at each other. The food was exceptionally average. 2 ordered the vegetarian crumble which both said was very dry. One had the fish and chips and I had the beef. The beef was disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. It was basically undercooked fat with a small bit of beef in between. It was sent back as I note a gentleman on the table behind me also sent his back.I then had to wait another 10 minutes for my replacement whilst everyone else kept on eating. I had the ham. Seriously just slices of ham for Sunday lunch! And the same veg that had been left on the table getting cold for 10 minutes. The staff seem like headless chickens. Literally so disorganised and very unprofessional. To our utter disbelief they didn't even take my meal off the bill.We will never eat here again. I have no idea if the chef has changed but this place has really gone down hill.

7 of us had lunch at the Blacksmiths Arms, Skendleby on Christmas Eve, before going for a walk in the beautiful and unspoiled Lincolnshire Wolds. The atmosphere was great with lots of local people eating and enjoying a drink in the bar. The food was the best pub food we have had in many years. I had a rib-eye steak. It was simply sublime. No need for a steak knife here. You could have cut the steak with a blunt spoon. Top marks to this pub. We had children with us aged 3, 6 and 9 and the food for them was home made, which is unusual. It was really tasty and devoured with gusto by the children. Very well worth a visit.

We visited the pub for a girly night. Was cery busy. Had to ask the lady at the bar if there was coming to take order because we had been waiting. Both me and my daughter had steak which was very disappointing and very fatty. When we complained to the waitress she said we could have a free dessert. But the steak meal was £17 and we got a free £5 dessert. But we couldn’t eat the steak. I would rather had paid for dessert and got our steak meals free.

We discovered this Gastro Pub after a recommendation from someone who lives nearby in Burgh le Marsh and a fairly regular visitor. We are delighted that we followed his recommendation, as we visited recently during a dreadful day's (and night's) weather and it refreshed our spirits.

Food was really good. We had gluten free fish and chips with curry sauce, a vegetarian burger and a regular fish and chips. Portions were huge and food was good. Service and atmosphere weren't the best, so let down the experience a little. Reasonable price.

Gravy & stuffing was delish chips were nice rest of the food wasnt the best but after paying for the food you are put off eating it by the smell of wet dogs which seem to be more in there than people! I dont agree with dogs being let in a place food is served but if needed maybe have a seperate place for the diners with dogs!

We went specifically to this venue for breakfast. We ordered different breakfasts and made some changes to one of them with the helpful counter staff. The tea in the tea pot was cold and we took it back for a replacement hot tea pot. The breakfast was brought to us by a member of staff who did not smile or speak. Having ordered extra well done bacon we were surprised to note that it certainly hadn't been even well done. The plates were cold and so was half of the breakfast, the rest of it cooling rapidly. The toast and prepacked butter were placed on the top of the breakfast and we had to use our fingers to try and get them off the top, even though there was nowhere to put them (have they never heard of side plates)? All in all, very poor. Customer care is clearly not a priority.

Can't begin to say how bad this pub was, miserable landlady and landlord and the worst food I have ever not eaten. I say not eaten as we didn't get through even a quarter of the plate of awful food we were offered. My husband said the beer was okay but please don't bother with the food it REALLY ISNT WORTH IT.

Called to eat this year to find it is the middle of being demolished, inflatable bar at the rear at present, could not get answer to if it will be rebuilt, it was a spit and sawdust place but the roasts and other food was good, just hope they do put in a new pub with a very similar menu etc, time will tell.
