Black's Finest Fish & Chips in Lancaster

Sorry to say that since the change in ownership this is not a patch on what it used to be. Even to the point of serving frozen chips and thinking this is acceptable.

Ordered fish and chips, and chips and gravy, size of the fish was ridiculous, I've got bigger fish in my pond, and has for the cartons of gravy curry and peas my nans thimble in her sowing box was bigger, what a rip of, just short of £15 for the privilege as well, certainly won't be calling here again 👎

Great menu with good prices. Award winning fish and chip shop with added bonus of chinese menu. Friendly staff and in a great spot.....saves having to drive into Lancaster.

Visited today to get the English chippy side of food not Chinese so cannot comment on the Chinese. We ordered 1x fish and chips, 1x chips and haggis, 1x chips cheese gravy. Only one customer Infront of us yet took 26 minutes from ordering to having our food ready, meanwhile 5 walks ins came in that time and managed to get there's before ours. Chips were ok, fish was awful more batter than fish, battered overly crispy, same goes for the batter on the haggis. Not bad prices, not so great food. Won't recommend nor return unfortunately.

First time at this chip shop. I was happily surprised by quality of fish and cost.

Tiny portion of fish, which was tough and chewy at the edges. Served in a large portion of batter that was dripping with oil. Chips were OK. £17.60 for fish n chips twice. I'll not be coming back.

The fish was of a reasonable size and tasted good, the chips were well cooked , mushy peas nice not too dried out or watery like some places, the owner (I think ) friendly .

paid on my card they took the payment twice i rang up to speak to owner/manager to tell them what happened and they kept slamming the phone down on me i have contacted the police and reported!!!!!

I know change in ownership can take time to settle in!! Had fish and chips last night very poor batter flat and soggy chips under cooked and very pale ...its a shame as was once a excellent chippy .

Just had two fish goujan specials. Unfortunately the chips were very chewy. The fish batter was very soggy. We also asked for salt and vinegar but hardly any was put on. If it hadn't closed just after driving off I would have gone back to say something. The actual fish used in the fish goujans was nice.

Used to be the best chippy in the area but really disappointed tonight. The batter was soggy and the chips were awful.

Last 3 times we have visited it is closed. It is a real shame as the food is really good and we live locally. Despite opening hours on the door saying it is open, it rarely is. Can you please update your actual opening times.

Very poor service from a business that used to be exceptional. Now only open 3 days a week and twice we have turned up and they were closed! 😡 I believe this maybe a business in its death throes. Pity as it used to be good.

Amazing! I can see why this place was the 2019 Winner of the Fish n Chip awards. Literally perfect fish and chips. And the staff were super nice and accomodating even when i turned up just 5 mins before closing, which made it even better! Highly recommended and i hope they win again this year, they deserve it!

Fish was a bit dry. Not as good as The Quays Lancaster

Popped in to this chippy 10mins before they closed and the young man behind the counter was happy to fry me a fish even though they had none ready fried. The young lady at the counter was just as happy to serve me the food once done. Lovely conversation with them both while I waited. I'd highly recommend this chip shop simply based on the amazing customer service. Now my fav go to place if I'm in the area again. Thank you for a great experience.

Completely overlooked for nearly half an hour, i cant comment on the food as i didnt get a chance to finish my food as my break was up . Tenner down the swanny

Even when we asked for well done fish they were soggy! Always undercooked. Pretty tasteless and bland. Expensive too

Managed to get fish & chips on our 2nd attempt as we didn't realise it closed so early - 8pm. Only had cod not haddock which they didn't tell us under we tried to order the latter. The large chips was enough for 2 if bought with fish.

Good food but never open as advertised meaning several wasted visits. Will not be going back until they sort their opening hours and let people know

lads bought chips. got a beeper . beeper beeped . took bit long. well salted and hot, me like it.

First visit tonight and really pleased with what we had. Best by far..fish and chips were prefect and curry sauce to die for...also happy with the cost. Def going back again found our local chippy....

Asked for the chips to be crispy and the were nearly as white as the inside of the potatoes themselves and the fish goujons were soggy, very expensive for what you get.

Disappointed asked for a chips large gravy and a barm cake. Came all together in a tray. Was very hard to eat.. And very little chips.

I love it there! It is the best fish and chip shop I have ever been to. They do amazing food and the decorations for Halloween, Christmas are stunning.

Disappointed! We live in Halton and try to support all local businesses including Blacks, which we use regularly but never again. We ordered two portions of Scampi which comes straight out of a freezer bag that you can get from a supermarket and paid £4.20 per portion, I got 7 pieces per portion which works out at 60 pence per piece. My partner also order a burger that was just microwaved up, this was uncooked, soggy in the middle and inedible. I think this is only the second time in my life I've felt the real need to give a bad review but feel the quality of food and cost warrants this. I'm sure my custom won't have a huge impact on Blacks but I will gladly drive now if I won't fish and chips or walk to the Greyhound which cost wise is on a par.

Disappointed with the service. I only wanted a portion of chips but had to wait until everyone else had their orders cooked to order first. I felt undervalued when I asked if I could have mine quicker. It is a busy and well liked shop but I feel the service and value for money is better if you can travel closer to town.

Excellent chippy. Friendly staff, cooked fish to order, so that it was cooked to perfection. The staff were great with my kids who showed an interest in how the fish was battered and cooked. We'll be back next time we're in the area.

We made a big order and a couple of items were missing Blacks went above and beyond including having the food ready in super quick time and offering a refund which is the best customer service I have experienced!!! Blacks is the only place I would get fish and chips from!!!!

Best fish and chips 2016 by far. Amazing food here. On Thursday Friday and Saturday your also able to get pizza at an amazing price, I would recommend you phone through your order though as they can get busy. There dough is hand made each day so your pizza tastes fresh as. The staff are by far the friendliest around. Also they do have daily deals on and sometimes mix it up abit with a sneaky deal that's on for either when stocks last or for the week so make sure you ask when ordering. Edit 29/6/18 they no longer do pizza on dates said in review.

Food was amazing and the service was excellent

Have eaten here many times, as a vegan I am well catered for with a choice of delicious burgers or falafel and excellent chips. The staff are exceptionally friendly and the ingredients are all sourced locally.

The Best Cod Chips . Beats Packet at Bolton le Sands. Well done on best chippy award .you deserve it .

Good quality Fish and chips. Well trained staff. Polite efficient and I love the homemade tartare sauce. Place looks very clean. You can phone your order in to collect. Have eaten from here on many occasions and not been disappointed yet! Just wish this was my local chippy !

Friendly, helpful staff greet you in a scrupulously clean shop. The quality of the chips is excellent and the mozarella melts are addictively scrumptious. Highly recommended.

Delicious fish and chips. The portions are adequate sized. Some of the nicest chips I've tasted and as a big big plus..They catered for my wife's gluten free diet.

Unfortunately stopped doing chicken & mushroom pies and pizza, but the food is fantastic. There can be a wait but you can't rush quality! Definitely recommend it if you are in the area.

Can't be faulted the quality of the food is excellent! Everything is cooked just right! My normal experinces of fish and chips is tasty as you are eating them and an hour later regret eating them because they are too greasy. Well definately NOT here!!! Tried a few of the pizza's as well, again excellent! The chicken and mushroom pies are a favourite if I fancy a change from the fish! Well worth a trip out of town!
