Fabulous pub, food was great, staff friendly, good parking and garden area was lovely. Could not fault it. Good value for money. Will be back.

Delicious, honest pub food and excellent service in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. Just what we needed after long walks on the beach! We went on two consecutive evenings because we enjoyed it that much!

We called aa part of a small group. The staff were mostly friendly, food was okay but nothing to write home about. Good selection of drinks and a great play park for children. Would definitely call again for drinks but not for food

In arrival we walked in to the bar, were told by the waitress she would bring our some menus. After 5 minutes she hadn't so I went to the bar and asked for some, she then told me I need to order at the bar and pay upfront for outside food. So why initially tell us she would bring the menus out to us? Also I feel paying for a meal prior to receiving the meal is a bit odd. Anyway, I complied to there seemingly made up rules and ordered and paid. When our food arrived it was wrong, giving us chips instead of mash, which we did coherently mention, but the waitress didn't seem to notice and walked off. She later came back with a small hug of gravy for a "pie" that was pretty much all gravy anyway. Another 5 minutes later she brought out a bowl of instant mash. At no point were we asked our meal was and had we have been I would have let them know, overpriced and underwhelming. But it's a bit late once you've already bloody paid! When she came to take the rements away, there was again no ask of how the good was, and she was not to be seen again. Absolutely useless waitress with no people skill whatsoever. Food was slapped up crap.

16/4/24 Thursday Late Afternoon beers We three middle aged guys had just explored the village, including the catavan site beach. It has been very windy on the beach and we wanted a beer to warm up in a sheltered garden as the sun was out (for once). We arrived at 4:30 to find a very quiet large pub with only a couple dining for lunch. There was only Doom Bar in the pulleys, Draught Guinness was off. The friendly barmaid had just finished serving the couple and came over to serve us. We ordered a pint of Doom Bar, keg Worthingtons and keg Guinness. We took the beers outside to the garden (accessed round the side) and found a sheltered sun trap picnic bench. We were the only people there in a large beer garden. It was a Tuesday afternoon so expected! We watched the birds and enjoyed the heat. It dawned on me that my Doom Bar was not quite what it ought to be, a bit stale woody flavour... i.e. it was on the turn. My friends agreed it was not fresh. The more I drank the more I agreed. Two-thirds of the way through it I could not finish it. I took it back in and explained to the waitress and she was happy to give me a replacement half of Worthingtons, not at all my preferred choice but she did it without quibling and said she would tell her manager. She said she did not know how to change a barrel anyway but I was happy she agreed with me. She probably thought I wanted a whole pint! I returned to my friends and finished off the Worthingtons. Their drinks were fine too, although, again, not what we are used to. This pub caters for caravaners and the like, doing it well. The couple who were served were audible impressed with the dishes. On leaving (bringing back the empties to the bar as usual) I chatted to a friendly Brummie who has been in the caravan site since Christmas and said it was the first dry day they had had! The pub was getting a bit busier as we left at 5:15. As an aside two of their four potted trees in pots (by the restaurant windows) had died.

Set in a beautiful spot but the pub was soulless and devoid of any charm. The food was a microwave job, possibly one of the worst meals I’ve ever paid to eat.

Visited here today for a spot of lunch. The waitress was lovely and very helpful. The food took longer than expected to turn up and when it did. I was very disappointed. Very overpriced. Calling the person in the kitchen a chef is laughable. Decided a salad with a chicken burger sliced on top was supposed to be a Cesar salad. Felt like I was eating a child's meal, no salad or garnish and was even charged for tarte sauce. Sadly to say, I won't be returning here. The two stars reflect the customer service we received from the waitress/bar staff not the food unfortunately.

The service was good; the waitress friendly and helpful. The menu was very limited and basically most items were one dish same with sauces added. Jackets, but no tuna. No burgers, no sandwiches or soup. The menu was pricey for mediocre food and warm wine. They have no clue what chicken ceaser salad is… mixed salad with balsamic vinegar, coleslaw, tomatoes with a chicken burger on top and a thimble of ceaser sauce which was rank. A lazy chef. V disappointed.

We had a warm welcome, a really lovely meal and were able to take our dog with us. The food was piping hot, well presented and tasty. Just what we needed on a cool April evening

Restrained menu, lacking basic expected items. But it's out of season, so maybe the menu will buck up in the summer. I don't think a beef burger & beef lasagna is asking for anything too exotic for a pub. The lack of winter reviews, perhaps shows why us locals don't really dine here in the winter.

Lovely pub, great hospitality and food. Tables well spaced out and comfortable environment. Warm welcome on arrival with pub grub on offer. Staff were very helpful and friendly, eager to serve. Selection of meals was adequate but all meals served up were cooked perfectly, arrived the same time and tasted great. Prices were very reasonable given the quality of foods and service. Definitely recommend and we will be visiting again. Thanks very much.

Staying in a nearby caravan park, went for a walk and popped in for a drink, saw the food going out and decided to have food. Had the specials, , gammon and chips and steak and chips. Food quite cold and meat tough. The peppercorn sauce was warmer than the food. Chips small portion but nice although lots of scraps. Saw the cheesecake and had it with ice cream. Cheesecake frozen in middle. Overpriced for bland food.

Lovely find, quick service and hot and tasty food, very busy for a Monday night which must be a good sign. Look forward to returning.

WOW!!! A lovely pub, clean and welcoming, friendly cheerful staff happy to have a chat and also do their job. Between us we had 3 steaks and 2 burgers. The burgers were lovely and tasty and the steaks were all cooked to perfection with not a bit left on the plate! fresh crispy side salad and plentiful chips. Certainly didnt leave hungry. Nice to see a place with no over the top frills or gimmicks that just has good food. We will be back next time we are visiting the area!!

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! we ordered 2 x chillie con carne 1 x Ham egg and chips 1 x steak, chips and onion rings The steak was very grissly and stringy - unpleasant to eat. Chips were all cold and a cheap side salad was served NO checkbacks were made, so after 20 mins we called the young waitress over to explain the steak was not edible. We were told by the owner and chef to use our legs and go to the bar instead of table service. ( they only had 2 tables in for food - a very manageable number! The owner became defensive, verbally aggressive and very unprofessional. After 15/20 mins of aggression from the owner I suggested he cools down and just listened to what should have been a quiet friendly complaint. We were happy to pay for what was eaten off the the steak meal, to which the owner said we had what we ordered. He eventually out of duress removed the steak meal off the bill and said ' you happy now!! Don't come back!' We messaged the young girl serving us ( who ended up crying out of fear and embarrassment) to see if she was OK because the owner was clearly going to blame her. She was told all expenses were going to be taken out of her wages. POOR POOR GIRL 😒

Having passed a few days ago and the carpark was full I knew this place was worth a visit. Popped in this afternoon and although a bit quiet being a Tuesday out of holiday season I wasn't too surprised. This didn't bother us as we knew it wouldn't take long to get served our meal. We both had the steak and although pricey we weren't disappointed as the plate was full and we knew the chef took a real pride in his work. A real change for us from the usual chain style pub food that is all too prevalent these days. Although offered the desert menu we declined sadly as we'd both had our fill, but we're sure it would have been money well spent. A clean, friendly and welcoming pub that we will be visiting again whilst in the area!

Quite pleasantly surprised as we called in from New Quay on the way back to our caravan in Borth. It is about 9 miles south of Aberystwyth this place. Greeted nicely, very clean, good food choice, dog friendly and excellent food quality - big plates. Good cider too. Really good.

Popped in whilst passing through in our motorhome. Plenty of space to park, dogs are welcome and a good choice of vegan food. The apple and caramel tart was particularly good. The staff are friendly and attentive and all 3 of us enjoyed our visit.

We booked a last minute Sunday lunch here as we were travelling back from North Wales to West Wales. I noticed on the way up that it was dog friendly so meant we could bring the hound with us. I booked with 24 hours notice & they were able to fit us in. 4 adults & 2 teenagers (& 1 dog) arrived & were promptly seated & served. There was a good choice of meats & some of us doubled up. We did ask if it would be possible to have a bowl of roasties in place of vegetables for 2 people as both my parents don't eat veg & we were told this wasn't a problem. The food arrived & was hot & tasty. The veg comprised of New Potatoes, Carrots, Peas, Broccoli & Cauliflower Cheese whilst the meats arrived with 2 Roasties, home made Stuffing & a Yorkshire Pud.We asked for the bill & upon checking we saw an "open menu item" for £5 had been added to the bill. I queried what it was for & was told it was for the extra roasties. I did say we asked for them in place of the veg for 2 but left it at that.We would come again.

We called in on way back from New Quay and had a warm and friendly welcome. Food was great and was value for money.

We visited the Black Lion during a short holiday break and hoped to get a meal and drink. It was restricted numbers due to the pandemic and we understand the difficulties this presents to venues etc. The manager of the Black Lion told us that he couldn’t serve us as he was full but told us to come back the next day. When we did come back he had ‘forgotten’ about this- when we reminded him of it he became very aggressive and rude to us refusing to let us in. Not being car drivers we were stuck as there was no where else to go. Our lovely landlady gave us a lift to a takeaway. However the Black Lion manager’s attitude left us feeling upset and rather intimidated. Maybe he needs to go on a customer services or stress management course?!

We visited the Black Lion in July 2020 when Welsh pubs were only allowed to open outdoors. It's a great location to stop off at when we're travelling to St Davids, so we booked ahead for both journeys. The service was good, although the blond waitress on our second visit was a lot less friendly than the brunette on our first visit. The owner/manager works very hard and was rushing around making sure everyone was seen to. They had good Covid-19 measures in place, with a covered area in case it rained. I had a jacket potato with cheese and beans both times, which was really nice - a large portion, with good coleslaw (I'm fussy about coleslaw!). My family had the fajita wrap, scampi and chips, and soup - all of which were tasty. The food was served in takeaway boxes with wooden disposable cutlery, which caused no problems. We'll definitely be back again.

Had Sunday lunch ok but not Brill for the money I had the two meat choice £10.95 ....meat was cooked to perfection but no crackling with pork dissapointing...beef very nice...roasters only two was under cooked in the middle hard....broccoli hard couldnt eat it carrots ok colly cheese nice...new potatoes yuk with a roast....stuffing ball ok ish....Yorkshire pud cheap old supermarket one...exspected better... very light and loud with kids running riot no atmosphere ...will I return for Sunday lunch NO.

It was ok but I don’t think we’ll revisit. I’d class it as cheap and cheerful. The wine was quite nice though

We visited the pub for Sunday lunch and was so pleased with the place. The menu was fabulous as you could pick from 5 different sunday meats. The meal itself was lovely, plenty of everything and the place was clean and tidy. The only negative I would say is, at £9.99 for a one course for a pub food is slightly on the costly side as most pub food sunday lunch is priced at £7 or £8.

Four people in the group, called in for dinner, had a good mix of food, well prepared for a reasonable price, nice range of beer on offer, the staff were really good, the young lady who served us “Celyn” deserves special mention. A credit to the establishment. Will eat there again when we are next in the area.

Average food think Wetherspoons but dog friendly, tried breakfast and lunch and ok for the price. Coffee is not very good so have changed to the tea which is good.

We pass this place regularly and always mean to try it as it’s dog friendly. I’m really glad we did. We got in early for a Sunday lunch. A few tables were already reserved which is a usually good sign. We were greeted by friendly staff and brought menus straight away. Knowing already what we wanted we both ordered the beef roast with all the trimmings. I couldn’t complain about any of it. It was well cooked and extremely tasty. Everything you want from a Sunday roast. Even managed a couple of deserts which were equally good. For those interested, there looked like there were bar games (darts, snooker etc.) and live sports on the TV (this was in no way intrusive and plenty of places to sit away if this isn’t your thing). Good selection of beers, wines and spirits and ample parking. Do what we did and give it a shot.

We went for a family meal. Only 6 of us, waiting ages for dinner it came out warm and bland... By this point we wernt even botherd to argunthe point, not that you would get much luck anyway the girls behind the bar where either on the phones or chatting rather than seeing if service was running smoothly or if we needed anything else. Think management or the owner needs to look at who he's employing.

Waited 40 mins for food to arrive. Minimal meat given after paying extra for 2 choices. No check in if food was ok, no offer for condiments. Plates on others tables left as staff chatted. Food wasn’t bad, just rubbish service. Shame as we were visiting tourists.

This was our second visit to The Black Lion. We had already been for Sunday lunch which was gorgeous. This time we called in for lunch midweek and even though it was close to the lunch menu finishing we were happily accommodated with a warm welcome and a smile. We chose to sit outside as we had our two dogs with us. Yet again I could not fault the food and yet again the service was brilliant. I know this is going to become a favourite for eating out.

Good menu with a wide range of choices. Dog friendly pub, even provided a bowl of water for our dog. Has gluten free options. Only crititcism is portions are too large in some cases. Reasonable value otherwise.

The staff behind the bar and the ladies that wait on are wonderful, friendly and all look so fresh and smart, but the management are not being supporting in my view.We waited over an hour for a jacket potato and a curry to be served in a restaurant that had just two other couples waitng to be served (one couple arrived at the same time as us) and when the food was eventually served it was only just warm. I take it that there must be trouble in the kitchen with lack of staff but why isn't management addressing any problems. We have eaten here before and accept that when the pub is full there will be delays but over an hour for a simple meal is unacceptable. It takes a long time for a restaurant to gain a good reputation and only minutes to loose it.

i have been to this lovely pub once before on my travels,but i have to say that i will keep coming back.its a superb place to dine,or just to casually sit and enjoy a cold beer with friends.myself and my friend both ordered food which came quite quickly and was still very hot.we both had the homemade steak and ale pie with veg and chips.it was superb.ive previously stated that the very best steak and ale pie i have ever eaten was from a great pub called the bradford arms inn,in llanymynech,but this steak and ale pie runs it a close second.it was so delicious.the only change i would make,would be maybe a shortcrust pastry top rather than puff,but thats just my preferance.the actual pub itself is easy to find.it also has a large beer garden and a large dining area.the girls who looked after us were so nice and lovely.i did leave a tip,but after i wished i left more.whoever the young ladies are who work at this pub,they are amazing.couldnt be more polite or helpful.always helps to give a smile,and they both had lovely smiles which made us feel more relaxed and at home.i have read some recent reviews on here about this pub,and some of them are quite hard to believe after my expierience,however everyone is entitled to their own opinions.my opinion will not change,this pub is a fantastic eatery,a lovely place to stop off and relax.with a great staff to make you feel welcome.i couldnt highly recommend this pub high enough.thank you to everyone at the black lion inn.see you soon.

My cousin went here this weekend all he did was ask if the food was still coming after waiting for 1 hr 30 mins and the boss came out to the bar area being abusive telling them to f ... off if they didn’t like it! Not acceptable

We had 3 meals, 2 meals were pleasant enough but one was not to her liking, not to worry no place can do each thing to perfection mostly just something which was described a certain way and came like nothing of the sorts no reason to complain but maybe we should of inquired alittle more into the dishes, our server seemed to be doing almost everything in the place which was an impressive thing to watch, the service was prompt and the lady server ( manager) was as easy to speak with as she was on the eye i hope she will be there next time as we will definatly visit again maybe at a busier time of day to really give the place a test.

Was recommended by an employee at Borth wildlife zoo, so glad we were!! Out of this world roast dinner! I wish I'd taken a pic to show you all just how spectacular but we were too busy scoffing the lot! Yum and yum! 5*!

Called in on spec for Sunday lunch with the family. The pub is really nice inside and obviously has a good reputation locally as it was busy all the time we were there. There was a choice of five roast meats. A good selection if starters and sweets. We are on holiday and will call in again before we go home.

Vegetables were lovely ,big portion,roast parsnips gorgeous. Would have liked more meat and would have liked vegetables served separately,but all in all very nice for the price and my wife loved the sea bass. My only real complaint was the mint sauce like water but will definitely be going again. Service was delightful by the young lady. All in all lovely sunday lunch

Ate here twice last week.First time was Sunday lunch which was excellent and then sampled the full menu in the week.Food was excellent and staff were friendly.Would definitely recommend

Enjoyed a meal as we were passing through. Very good food, friendly welcoming service and beautiful views from the garden. Only thing that stopped it being a 5 rating was that the service was quite slow, however they were very busy. Would definitely visit again.

We were on the mammoth drive from North to South Wales. We had been on the road for hours and were in need of sustenance and a 'comfort break' an i am glad we chose hereThe Hubster and I had a sausage and onion sandwich... it was HUGE and very tasty. My mother who is extremely fussy had a baked potato with coleslaw and cheese. I'm not sure where they get their potatoes from but you don't see them like that in the supermarket anymore- it was again huge - and she ate every bit of it.We had a couple of drinks and then continued our journey.The pub was lovely, the toilets were very clean, the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.Next time we do the long long trip, we will most definitely call in for our pit stop

Thought we would try when passing...Menu very extensive with specials on the boardGave our order but esited quite a long time. Waitress pleasant enough but no conversational skills !Food when arrived very pleasant visually but curry was cold! All food looked freshly produced, portions large enough to gratify.Will probably return when in the area.

Really great friendly service, big portions of food. The cheesecake was delicious, clearly homemade and massive portion size. The Black Lion burger was epic. Would recommend highly. Atmosphere nice and cosy
