A fantastic venue with a continental/Italian feel in its decor. They were able to accommodate a table of 8 with no notice and proceeded to present us with a perfectly cooked meal and wonderful courteous and professional service. There is an outside sheltered seating area heated by gas patio heaters......Great food , reasonably priced with a lovely atmosphere.

Husbands 70th birthday with family & friends….. fork buffet was superb, everyone very impressed.. garden room booked with private access to heated (optional) terrace, play area for 2 Children ..really enjoyable time for everyone…

Mid week family meal. Really excellent food and great service. We are gradually working our way round all ipswich restaurants with our two children age 17 and 10. We ordered two pizzas, a cod and chips and a chicken caesar. The food was great quality and huge portions. Service was very quick and attentive. Went to pay and discovered the pizzas were buy one get one free on a weds so that was a nice surprise. Overall a really lovely meal and we will go back.

Food was average, outside seating area had paint all stripped from the table all over the grass and at £9.40 for a glass of wine and £6 a pint we will not be returning.

We chose to go to Black Tiles to celebrate an 86th and 60th birthday with family. There were twelve of us and we arrived to find the garden room set out beautifully for a family meal. The staff were delightful and could not have been more helpful. Chole had helped us sort out all the pre orders and Ake (apologies for the spelling) looked after us throughout the meal. He remembered everyone's orders and made sure that we had a really lovely time. Thank you to al the staff.

A lovely time from start to finish. Our waiters were friendly, attentive and hard working. The starter I chose was the tempura prawns with sweet chilli dip. Very tasty and full of flavour. The roast pork, roast beef and burger meals myself and family had chosen, we ageed they were cooked to perfection and puddings and sauces to accompany the meats were homemade. The sticky toffee pudding with ice-cream and Vanilla and raspberry creme-brulee finished a delightful meal. A lovely atmosphere and a great Mother's day!

Went in a Saturday evening unfortunately no atmosphere as restaurant was quite empty. We used to come here all the time. The food was lovely we had pate, bread selection and halloumi. For main fish and chips, Cesar salad and sea bass Asian style, all beautiful fresh and presented. Staff were so helpful and friendly. Would be back soon.....just needs more people to give this a chance to get the atmosphere back again.

I'm sorry but after a recent meal here i really can't recommend the place. This is a lovely venue and i remember good visits in the past, but Saturday evening we found the restaurant lacked any atmosphere (perhaps due to less than 8 people eating). The staff we're friendly but the service was a bit below average. Food quality was OK but mixed feelings.... triple cooked chips that were a bit soggy & a steak (total cost £25) which was definitely less than 8oz, overcooked & looked like i could have got better from Tesco's. Hot desert - nice but pretty sure it was straight from the microwave. I like the place, the menu was good, the staff were helpful. But feel overcharged and let down compared to the past.

We booked their Party deal for a 21st Birthday and we could not fault it. We had our own bar and outside area. It was an excellent deal with drinks for the birthday boy, bubbly, cake and even a taxi at the end of the night! Everyone had such a good night. We hired our own DJ and danced until midnight! The staff were brilliant keeping the drinks flowing. We didn’t order a buffet but people ordered food which they enjoyed. I would totally recommend booking a party there it was such a fabulous night - thank you.

What can I say average food not no way near as it was in the past we not go again , pork was tough and not great staff very good though

Very good pizza, reasonable selection of beers. Seemed understaffed for a Friday evening, so service a bit slow, although staff definitely doing their best.

Our son has lots of food allergies so we usually avoid allowing him to eat at restaurants. However we decided to see if we could speak to the chef and see what they could do for him. The chef took the time to come and speak to us, he listened to everything we had to say, showed us some of the ingredients he uses and was absolutely amazing! Our son enjoyed his food with the rest of the family and it was the best experience we had. We cannot thank him and his team enough for listening and being so understanding. We will definitely be returning again.

Kids loved the playpark, which meant that we could relax. It was ok food and drink wise. Would go back, but did feel as though it was struggling as they don't open all the time now, and just have a very limited coffee shop at times.

We had a really lovely meal at the Black Tiles today to celebrate my dad’s 86th birthday with family. There were 12 of us and we had various meals, including roast dinners, burgers and pizza. All were delicious! One of the children is quite a fussy eater but it was no problem for the chef to cook a special pasta dish not on the normal menu. She loved it! We brought along a birthday cake and we were offered plates and a knife. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely staff, and a special mention goes to Sarah one of our waitresses. My dad enjoyed his celebration very much. Thank you Black Tiles!

Well looked after by staff of all ages. My Bruschetta starter was nice and my friend said his pate was good too. My main of Risotto was really good so I’ll definitely go back for that.

So enjoyed the roast beef meal takeaway. Tender beef, fresh vegetables and lovely roast potatoes, Yorkshire with tasty gravy. Will definitely order again and highly recommend. Only gave 20 minutes notice and they serve until 8. Delicious.

Always loved the Black Tiles, but having been there today wont be going back. Dont get me wrong, staff were fanatstic and location wasn't bad. However the food was sadly really poor. Me and a mate decided on the burger which being honest was just...

Booked here as we were let down by another local pub. It’s never been fantastic but I saw on their website that they had been refurbished and had a new menu. Basically the place is a dump, in the restaurant there are about 3 tables...

Ordered a Pork Steak and 2 Fish Pies, the pork steak was great but both fish pies were cold, also the plate of one was clearly dirty, covered in grease stains. The kitchen offered to reheat both dishes, but did not provide and other compensation....

We were looked after - this was a wake for my father-in-law and the staff did an excellent job in both providing food and drink plus giving us the mourners the space and time we needed. We had a private area with good outside space....

Good quick service by friendly staff. Not too much choice on the vegetarian front but was served was nice. Very interesting ceiling structure!!!!

We arrived as a party of 8 and were seated on chairs that had ripped upholstery, and a table with paper table cloths that didn't cover the table, also there was no lighting where we were, only a small side light on the wall, I wouldn't call it ambience, I would call it dark, too dark to even read the joke in the cracker, there was 2 bits of decoration that I could see, a small reef on the wall and a christmas tree in the other bar area.The food came out in good time, even though we weren't asked if we were ready to eat yet,I went for the traditional christmas dinner, I wish I hadn't, there was a couple of sprouts, a few bits of sliced carrot and a floret of cauliflower that had been slightly cheesed, these bits of fresh veg were cooked very nicely, and still had a bit of firmness in them and therefore flavour, what veg there was you could have fitted in one ladle, and still had room for more veg in it.The roasties, while they looked nice and just about brown, had no crispness to them, in fact I don't know how long they had been hanging around for but they were almost impossible to cut, and took a lot of effort for very little reward, it was actually entertaining, others in my party stopped to view the spectacle, which had become an event in itself.The turkey was very disappointing, from this place I was expecting actual turkey, but instead I was served slices of what seemed like a bog standard frozen reconstituted turkey roast, which was very dry, hard to eat and tasteless, I guess this may have been kept hot all afternoon as the roasties had possibly been as well, the one pig in a blanket there was could have done with a bit more cooking time.For afters I went for christmas pudding and custard, I was served a small square of mush with what tasted and looked like watery instant custard that had been over nuked by a long way, the custard was molten, as was the christmas pudding, I'm guessing that's what it was meant to be, it was just a tasteless square of hot mush with no consistency or flavour to it. The only thing in this christmas meal that had been cooked with due care was the veg, about 7 slices of carrot, 3 sprouts and a floret of cauliflower, I'm glad I wasn't actually paying for this, I can't believe how people rave about this place, the food and the seating was a joke. if I ever go back there again it will be too soon, They also got something else wrong regarding my food requirements, very wrong from my point of view, as I started to mention it the lady said ahh yes, and finished my sentence for me, this told me that she knew about it before she brought it out, but still brought it out and served it to me!!! which could have had disastrous consequences for me.Therefore....Poor food, Poor seating and ambience, Poor customer service.I've had much, MUCH better from a certain cheap national calvary chain.This whole experience was certainly that, hands down the worst pub restaurant I've ever been in.

We'd not been for here for years when my husband worked nearby. Then, there was one non dairy choice on the menu :duck and noodle salad with sweet chilli sauce. Oh my word, how its changed! We went for a late Sunday lunch & everything has changed - and all for the better!There are gluten free, dairy free, veggie etc menus. It's flat, accessible and v v disabled friendl - loos and parking good. Lots of interesting places to sit, inside and out. My word. The food. Everything is carefully thought out, perfectly cooked and really, really delicious. This is topped off by some of the friendliest, best informed staff I've met in ages. They're exceptional. We're back from 2 weeks in France - we've recently had v good food...but this was better. I chose avocado and crayfish salad with a gorgeous low fat dressing as a starter. My husband a delicious charcuterie platter. We both had roasts (perfect veg and meat, all at perfect temp and level of cooking). No Yorkshire for me - I had to suffer with non dairy onion rings instead - yum. And gravy heaven Usually I ignore the Pud menu... but what about Pavlova with excellent, whipped, nondairy cream? Food pornography and bliss. I was too occupied munching to photograph the other courses - but you have to see this..So much to like. We're going back.

Came here with family last week for lunch and the food was really tasty. I recommended the Kofta's and Greek salad. The burgers are huge, certainly worth value for money... Friendly place 😊

Came here today with the family for a roast dinner as the red lion was full up. We heard good things about this place so decided to try it out. Sadly it wasnt very nice the roast beef tasted like it was from a packet and microwaved and the veg was rock hard as well as the Yorkshire burnt. Sadly wont be returning here.

Came back after a couple of years to the same poor service; staff are rude and arrogant which ruins what is a lovely location. Ended up leaving without eating which spoilt a pleasant group evening out.

We swamped the restaurant yesterday at a post wedding lunch and the service was fantastic. They could not have been better and the food was good too.

Another favourite pub of ours! Good food, friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere. The children love the play area but a little TLC is needed for the equipment they play on.. The food is reasonbly priced, so it suits everyone's budget.

Went here with my family for dinner as it was a nice evening we decided to sit outside now from when I used to go there the garden was always very well kept it’s now overgrown and the outside benches aren’t placed as well as I remember them to be and what’s happened to the water fountain it’s so overgrown you can’t see the water feature anymore. The food was good nothing amazing, the bar staff were great always trying to start conversations.

Some of the poorest value for money I've ever experienced. Food is distinctly low-class ... as is the local clientele! If I'm honest, the food could've been prepared by a group of four year olds.

Stopped for a drink with my other half. He had to change his beer a couple times due to it not being okay. Think something was wrong with the pump. I had a glass of wine which was fine. Nice atmosphere!

Came here for lunch with friends, very shabby interior, paper posters stuck on the walls and mirrors, looked more like a village hall had been done up into a restaurant. It’s in serious need of a makeover and some TLC.

We came here to celebrate my husband's special 40th birthday and had a great time. Nothing was too much trouble and the service we received was excellent. I had a so called Lamb stew off the specials menu,it was more like a very thin weak soup with only a few peice of meat and a few peices of potatoes and carrots.No wonder they give you a spoon.

Popped in to the Black Tiles tonight for a quick supper to break our journey to Southwold. As it was a Thursday there was a special offer of 2 meals for £12 with a choice of Salmon & new potatoes, Fish and Chips or Scampi. The scampi was plentiful and not overcooked as is so often the case. My Salmon again was just cooked to perfection. We also enjoyed a glass of wine, a pint of beer,one pate starter and an amazing bill for £26!

We had a very belated Xmas party here recently. The staff were amazing very attentive, food was great very well organised will definitely be returning for a meal. Had a great evening.

Being local us, we frequently use this pub for convenience. Over the years, it has always been acceptable but lately, with a shortage of staff and the customer service has not been up to standard. Unfortunately the food has also deteriorated along with the decor. Having recommended to friends in the past, it will be a while before we revisit.

We hired the cocktail bar area for 50 people, for our mums 60th Birthday. Staff were very good and very helpful, with only 2 behind the bar they did well. We ordered pizzas which were nice, We all had a great time and look forward to our next visit.

Bar area is lovely with a good selection of drinks. Food was very good, burgers are excellent. Staff all very attentive with efficient service. Menu has a sufficient choice. Restaurant area felt a bit spare and not as cosy as the bar but ok.

The standard of cooking has gone downhill unfortunately. I had the roast pork today which was very tasteless. The yorkshire pudding was dreadful and I couldn't even cut through the cauliflower as it was hardly cooked. The gravy was not nice and the pork was bland and uninteresting.

Providing lunch for 30 people takes some doing and Black Tiles did it perfectly. They coped with a variety of food requirements easily. We had a great meal and the staff were really good.

The pub itself is fine, it's not fine dining or anything and I wouldn't travel out of your way to reach it but if you are close/passing and just need to stop for some normal pub grub then this place is fine. The staff were really nice but if you are a veggie the food menu is really limited. I'm not local to the area but the people we were meeting were, the others were meat/fish eaters and had the usual stuff such as scampi and chips/burgers/prawn cocktails and all said it was tasty.

A big thank you to George and the team for a fantastic Sunday lunch today, you accommodated a party of 10 for a Birthday get together and provided us with a fantastic meal with a warm and friendly service. we look forward to seeing you again soon!

Myself and my partner decided to have a spontaneous date night and picked the Black tiles as we hadn't been here for a while.

The service was excellent and we were delighted with the food. I ordered fisherman's pie which is often risky at all restaurants. Often they consist of runny sauce and not much fish but The Black Tiles chef obviously knows what he/she is doing. It was full of salmon, prawns and very flavoursome. The mash topping was beautifully browned and my partner's scampi and chips lovely too. Their vegetables were hot and not over cooked and well presented. We will certainly go again.

7 of us visited for a friend's birthday meal. Friendly staff, efficient service, warm and relaxing atmosphere and the food was delicious!!

Our friends took us to the Black Tiles for lunch as we were unable to attend my friends birthday party. We had a very enjoyable lunch and found the portions to be adequate, well presented and well cooked. We were not rushed to finish our meal and had a long afternoon chatting and having a few drinks. The staff were helpful and happy spend some time chatting with us. The place was clean and the outside grounds well kept and it was nice to sit in the October sunshine.

My Son took me here for Lunch today.. The gardens as we walked from car park are lovely.. I live in Aus now & do not see all the Autumn colours like this..

I would highly recommend Black Tiles. I have been visiting this restaurant for many years and it was the obvious choice to hold a party to celebrate my business Marks & Mann Estate Agents becoming 5 years old. I spoke to George about 3 weeks before who said we could have the garden room we discussed food options etc and I was confident that George knew exactly how we wanted the event to go. On the day we were greeted by Friendly staff who were very helpful. The food was lovely and all the guests enjoyed them self. I will be back for sure. Thank you to George and all his great team. I am so pleased to have this restaurant so close by. As a coeliac I'm often faced with some very poor options but the Black Tiles is definitely the exception. Great menu choice and fabulous desserts, can certainly recommend the pavlova!

Visited with 9 family members for my wife’s 50th Birthday lunch. Service was excellent and food delicious. The staff went out of their way to look after us and nothing was too much trouble for them. They also made a special fuss of our 9 year old son. We will certainly be returning there again.

I've always loved this pub, it's been our local for years. However, our last 2 visits have been very disappointing. If you're planning on having a meal, then make sure you have a meal beforehand! The servings are now tiny. I had sea bass with anchovies, capers and a nicoise salad. I ended up with half a piece of sea bass, no anchovies, and the smallest salad Id seen since last time I visited! I paid £14 for this. I didn't complain as I complained last time and was charged full price with no apology and no explanation.

Went to the black tiles with a coach party of 33 people. Was very impressed with the food, restaurant and staff. Service quick and nice hot food. Will recommend and hope to come back for another visit sometime. From the Coach Driver

We have been to the black tiles on many occasions,on the last three visits we have noticed a lack in service, a reduction in the menu and a poor bar,this last time was just the same,no coke to drink,vegetarian items no longer on the menu,food not as good. The staff were still up to a good standard As a family we will NOT be going again.

Thank you to all the staff at the Black Tile, we held my daughters 30th birthday here and nothing was too much trouble. From booking a table for 35 people to the evening itself the staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating.

Having been here on numerous occasions in the past we visited recently and were very disappointed, the restaurant was virtually empty so there was plenty of staff about to look after us, once we ordered it took ages to arrive, my partner said that her food was ok but my burger was overcooked the pulled pork was dry, presentation generally poor, when serving the table next to us the waitress dropped vinegar which we all know can be a strong smell(ok accidents happen) the couple were soon moved to another table, the floor was then moped up using some sort of detergent which really did stink, but at no point was there any apology or an offer to move us...i can accept a not so good meal but customer service needs to improve

I have been to this pub several times and never been disappointed. Their chilli chicken noodles are a must. Will be going back in the very near future. The staff are very helpful and friendly

We have visited Black Tiles many times over the last year since our son has moved to the area. Always excellent service with attentive staff who remember you (a nice touch). Food is always good and is varied by having specials. The dressed crab is excellent this season and my favourite dessert is the lemon curd cheese cake. In the last two weeks we have eaten here about 5 times and every meal was excellent.

This place used to be great but it’s so behind with the times now. It needs a serious lift in terms of decorating, at the very least. It looks very tired indeed. The staff although friendly couldn’t keep up and didn’t come to our table once to check if everything was ok. When we had finished we ended up moving our own plates and glassware to a nearby table to free up some room as we had children with us. The majority of the food was warm, not hot.

Went as a foursome for an evening meal. 2 had rump steaks, one a chicken pie, the other a steak and ale pie. The young lady at the bar apologised for a possible 45 minute wait for food due to being busy (7.30pm on a Thursday). The order was promptly taken and we were in fact, served within 30 minutes. The steaks were beautifully cooked to both medium and medium rare requests. Very pleasant surroundings and service.

We visited on 12th August for a 40th birthday meal for 12 of us and couldn't have been more happy.Food was lovely and hot when served, plenty on the plate and asked if we needed drinks at the table saved us up and down to the bar! We bought our own cake with us and the staff were so helpful with bringing it out, knife to cut it and plates and napkins at the ready. Been coming to black tiles for many years and always loved the gardens to relax in after a big meal! Thanks for all your help making a special birthday even more special!

Visited today for lunch, very disappointing, won’t bother again. Plagued by flies although there are screens on the doors. Ceiling fans in place but not being used until we left, why?..Very limped menu, requested no ice in drinks, shouldn’t have bothered as they both came with ice. Could be a little goldmine but they really need to up their game.

Visited with my brother and sister last night. Food we had was good, but there was very little choice of main meals. There was no chicken, or pasta dishes, and just one fish dish. Several burgers though. Just not our kind of food. We have eaten roast lunches on Sunday, and they have been good. Sad about this experience. Sorry :(

Rubbish menu, rubbish food. I wouldn’t even bother walking through the door. The food is poor, badly presented and the quality is never consistent.

We went on a Sunday @ 5pm for a roast dinner. Ordered our meal for us to tell us they had no Lamb or beef. Should have been told this when we had been given the menus when we arrived. Took our orders- came back to tell us they now had no roast chicken. Ordered again. Asked if we wanted ice and lemon in our drink - I said lemon no ice. Came back with no lemon. Starters arrived featuring a hair in one of them. Main courses were set down without any cutlery for us to eat with so had to wait for those to arrive whilst our food was sitting in front of us. I asked for ketchup when the food came- they can back with cutlery and predictably no ketchup. I had to ask for a second time for the ketchup. Not one person asked us how our meal was whilst we were eating not when the plates were cleared nor when we paid. Shabby looking place outside and in most places inside. Staff have little to no training or know how to speak to customers when working in the service industry.

We were party of, we arrived on Thursday, fish special menu day of 2 for £12, you get a choice if scampi and Chios, fish and chips or salmon, new potatoes and green beans.

Had a very tasty lunch here today. Good choice of meals with a specials list as well as regular menu. Friendly staff and not a long wait for food. Excellent drinks list at reasonable price. On leaving presented with 2 for one meal voucher so sure to return!

The staff were very friendly and the lamb steak I ordered went down a treat! The baked lemon cheesecake was also one the best I've had.

Went for Sunday lunch today with a friend it was the worst Sunday lunch we have ever had it was stone cold not warm STONE COLD how they had the audacity to serve this up I have no idea. They have no idea how to serve food. Will not be returning or recommending this pub/restaurant (if you can call it that ) to anyone

As a chef myself and knowing how to cook the doversole was absolutely revolting how they even have the decency to serve this to any human being is beyond me even after approaching the waitress about my issue she was extremly rude and not very accomadating to my issue.i will not be returning and if u was planning on visiting this disgrace then I would think twice!

Dined here Sunday 27 May, absolutely appaling. Not even busy,......but was told they were, so that should tell you something. Had to wait for service for drinks, appetiser, then dinner came whilst eating the starter, then had to go to the counter to order deserts. Food and drink were ok. Service non existent, communication zero, more atmosphere on the moon. Left the leaflet advertising 2 for 1 on the table,....won't be returning.

Haven't eaten here for ages, food has been hit and miss for a number of years but have to say really enjoyed last night's visit. We weren't overly hungry so ordered 2 pizzas and various sides to share between 4 adults and our 4 year old. The 4 cheese pizza and the garlic bread with cheese were amazing! We had desserts, cheesecake and a strawberry shortcake sandwich..all obviously homemade (I Hope!) And delicious! My only real criticism is that our plates weren't cleared and we didn't have the usual meal check, not that we needed it as our food was great, but could save problems in future. Really good value for money and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

Ordered food for the family which arrived late and very cold, on a hot day, after complaining and receiving the food cold once again I lost the will to complain a second time. Very poor service to be polite!!!!

I am a regular at the Black Tiles with friends I have sampled many of the dishes all of which are lovely. It is a very friendly atmosphere the waiting staff are very attentive. Yes

Had a fabulous meal and great, friendly service :) I had the sea bass ramen and fully intend to have the exact same dish when I next visit. It was delicious... the staff are very friendly and accommodating: a lovely evening, thank you.

10 of us came to eat for this Easter Sunday.

I booked The Terrace Bar for a private function - A surprise 18th Birthday Party for my daughter. I was given access to the room during the day so that I could decorate with balloons and bunting and table displays. The staff were very accommodating to all of my requests including to rearrange the room slightly so that I could assemble a photo booth. Guests all arrived before the birthday girl and then when she did arrive ALL the staff were amazing at playing along with the "table in the name of ..." so that they could escort us to the private room where friends and family were waiting for the "SURPRISE" moment. The buffet food was excellent, with a very good selection of items and there was plenty to go round. Service was great at the bar and all staff were helpful, polite and attentive. Thank you Black Tiles for helping to make the evening so special.
