What a shame that this pub is so poorly managed. It used to be popular with friendly staff, good pub grub and a family friendly atmosphere . Hadn’t been for a while but after a visit last week was surprised how quiet it was but after half an hour realised why. The bar and outside smoking area was dominated by customers who were well on the way to being drunk, and beginning to be aggressive towards each other. Customers with dogs let them wander around the pub and encouraged them to sit on stools at the bar or next to their customers. Management made no attempt to intervene with an aggressive argument or ask people to keep dogs off the furniture or wander around the pub. This place will not stay open if they rely on the people who prop up the bar and make no attempt to create a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Food was ok for pub grub, hot and reasonable portions but tables and environment a bit grubby. Garden very run down.

This pub used to be lovely. The last owner was always smartly dressed and so were the staff. Always with a pleasant greeting. You walk in the door now and you are greeted by an unkempt large couple and their daughter who basically grunt at you. Get in there at the right time and they’ll even offer you some off their takeaway, which they’re eating off the bar. All the while there are paying customers in the restaurant, eating I don’t know what if the new owners don’t even want to eat it. It used to be a lovely, clean, posh space to sit. Now it just feels like your in some chavs living room

Lovely traditional pub with a great ambience, excellent food and dreamy location. I have fallen in love with Gweek which is a hidden gem on the Helford estuary. There is an amazing village shop opposite with fantastic produce including a mini plant nursery and fantastic vegetable shop. What more could you ask for? Highly recommended, both meals we had here were top notch!!

I booked a night to stay here to visit the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. I was coming from Bristol but due to heavy flooding this last week all the trains were cancelled on the route on the day I was to travel. I can't drive and even if I could I doubt I could have made it due to the flooding. They refused to allow me to cancel my booking as I couldn't make it and I had pre-paid. I provided screenshots from GWR to prove I couldn't get there. So not only did I not get a holiday I lost money too. Of all the nasty, petty ways to treat people! Stupid, too. If they had agreed I would have been happy to book with them again and come down later in the year. Now there's no chance and I hope other people will think twice before giving this place their money.

We had been walking in the area and decided to stop at the Black Swan for a lunch. One of their specials on the blackboard was a "cold meat platter with a bowl of chips" for £13.,95. We decided that would be a good lunch to be shared and so opted for that., When it came out however it was totally different. There was only one piece of meat and 3 huge pieces of cheese - also no chips ! But - can I just say - although it was not exactly what was ordered - it was an absolutely brilliant "ploughmans" lunch. The bread rolls were warm and crisp, the gammon ham was a lovely big slab and beautifully tender. We were given Cheddar, Brie and a Cornish Blue - big slabs of each - with piccalilli and coleslaw -both tasted home-made - plus some lettuce and salady bits. It was a great lunch - and we did'nt need the chips with it. So - thank you Black Swan for a really tasty lunch - perhaps to be on the safe side you need to change the description though ........ !!!!!!!!

Banging start to our short break in choosing to eat at the Black Swan! Just a stones throw away from us, this traditional English Pub is brilliant. Staff were friendly and accommodating, really down to earth. I had the Steak & Ale Pie with Chips and Veg, I was delighted to see that you got extra gravy without asking. The pie was a full pastry pie which I always like to see, non of this earthenware pot with a puff pastry top in this establishment . My wife had the Green Curry off the Specials Board which she really enjoyed. I can highly recommend this pub, don’t miss out if your in the area 👍

This is a great independent pub serving a great range of beer and fabulous food. The staff are welcoming and friendly, just what you expect in a family run pub. Now for the main event, the food, both myself and my wife loved our meals, she had a piri piri chicken wrap and I went for the steak pie. Both meals were well cooked and presented, my pie, chips and proper gravy was incredible and I would recommend it to anyone who loves pie! 10 out of 10 for food and service, cracking pub.

Down counrty lanes and at the tail end of the rush period made the journey interesting! I have done this trip in daylighht several times previously but this was unpleasant. On arrival we were welcomed but then everything went down hill. The service was slow, the drinks we received were not as we ordered. Several items were not availabe from the menu so it meant scampi and chips. Soggy chips, poorly cooked scampi, not very good. Having had a look online for somewhere to eat where we’re staying in Helston, we came across this online and really liked the look of the menu. We called ahead as it was Saturday night and luckily, they could fit us in in the dining room. When we arrived, we understood why they couldn’t accommodate us in the bar, it was fully booked and seemed a really comfortable eating area with a great atmosphere. We took our seats in the dining area which was also very nice, though night quite as cosy. The waitress came immediately to offer menus and take drinks orders. Having looked online and liked the look of the menu, we happened to order exclusively from the specials board, we shared a tapas of 3 items to start, we had ciabatta bread with balsamic vinegar and olive oil, garlic king prawns and battered calamari. The portions were good, as these were three for £10 though there were only three prawns but they were really big and very juicy. We then each had the muscles in white wine, cream and garlic sauce. These were £13.95 each and the portions were huge, they were each served with grilled ciabatta and crispy chips - these were absolutely amazing. To end, we had some ice cream and some sorbet which were both really tasty and were the perfect way to end - neither of us felt like we could face a full dessert as we were so full. All through the meal, the staff were very attentive and friendly. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer meal for our last night in Cornwall. I honestly couldn’t recommend this restaurant enough.

The meal came with stuffing, carrots, cabbage, swede mash, braised red cabbage, roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding, gravy and if that wasn't enough a separate dish of cauliflower cheese (which probably wouldn't have fit on the already full large plates!). Everything was tasty, cooked perfectly and tasted home cooked. The best Sunday roast I have ever had. Outstanding. The waitress was also very friendly and efficient. Coming to Cornwall for many years, The Black Swan always being our favourite place to eat. We went last night and were bitterly disappointed with the quality of the food this year. My husband (who will eat pretty much anything) had lamb. It was tasteless, chewy and poor quality. My steak was ok, but again tasteless. The onion rings heavy in batter. The presentation was poor and slapped onto the plate. No excuse as, although a Friday night, they weren’t rushed off their feet by any means. I asked for an Eaton Mess for dessert but do not like blackcurrants, so asked for it without. I was told it came already mixed - so not fresh then but bought in. MY husband had the Bakewell Tart.. Nothing baked well about this. As another reviewer described it, it was like school dinners. The pastry base was like cardboard and inedible.

We booked a nights stay here as we were in the area for work, but wanted to meet up with friends in the area for the weekend. The pub is a proper local, with a real buzz about it. We sat in the pub garden and chatted to locals, then we were witness to the local Gig Rowing Team having a post competition drink and subsequent meal. They were rowdy, but good natured and it just made us feel that there were still some "real" pubs left in this part of Cornwall. Mike was a great host, running a busy bar, but always on hand to look after our requirements. The food was good pub grub, the staff helpful and jolly. The only downside was the white wine - but if the punters don't drink much we understand (but you can get fabulous low priced wines from Aldi and Lidl which are far and above the standard offered in the bar-just a thought Mike) All in all we would recommend this place as a step back into reality - a good, honest hostelry!!

Nice place to stay. We only spent one night, and we had to leave early. Breakfast supposed to be at 8:30, but the owner made one for us at 7. The place is nice and clean. I would come again

We visit this pub quite often as we live quite close to it. Queek is a pretty village close to the Seal Sanctuary and river.

We popped in the black swan on our way back from visiting the Cornish Seal Sanctuary. The pub is nice and clean with stylish decor. We both ordered the steak and onion ciabatta with crisps and salad it was absolutely amazing one of the tastiest steak sandwiches I have ever had. Would highly recommend. The staff where nice and friendly. Handy that there is a carpark around the back of the pub as the roads are very narrow and hard to park.

We visited The Black Swan on the Sunday evening of a bank holiday weekend and were received warmly. The drinks were good and the menu covered from steak to salad. I had the mixed seafood fry with homemade Tartare Sauce and dipping chilli sauce. It was hot, freshly cooked and delicious. There were five of us at the table and we all enjoyed our meals. The portions are good and the presentation excellent. The service was quick and friendly.

We were on holiday in the area and starving from a morning out touring. It was late afternoon and we'd tried two pubs already with no luck. Popped in with the dog and the VERY friendly member of staff checked and said the kitchen would stay open for us. What a beautiful pub. Very welcoming. Lovely menu. We had fish and chips and a salmon sandwich. Both were pretty on the plate and delicious. Wish we'd had enough of an appetite to come back in the evening and sadly we were leaving the following morning. Until next time. But do try The Black Swan. You won't regret it.

Four of us had a great table in the window we had four lovely roasts the two of us who ordered beef agreed the beef was a bit tough and dry which was a shame - the pork was enjoyed by the two who ordered that. The lovely fire that is usually roaring this time of year when we have previously been here wasn't lit and we were all feeling the chill and one of our party kept their coat on during the roast. The service was good but we had to go to the bar to remind them that we ordered a pot of tea that didn't turn up to be fair though the pub was extremely busy the Sunday we visited. Plenty of veg served in side dishes and they will give you extra gravy and condiments as required the staff are very helpful. We have been here a few times now and am sure we will go back again in the near future but maybe not order the beef.

Having booked in advance, my daughter, grandson and I, together with our dog, came here for an evening meal. On arrival, we were greeted warmly, shown to our table in the bar area and had our drinks orders taken by the friendly waitress. Although the main menu looked appetising, we all chose from the 'Specials' board. I had the fish pie, my daughter, the vegetable chilli and my grandson, beer battered cod fillet, with chips and peas. We all agreed that our meals were delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.

Found this delightful upstairs cafe by chance and had some of the best vegetarian food for a long time. We were made very welcome and chose the hummus bowl and roasted veg toasted sandwich. Both were excellent and very filling.

I've only ever called in for a beer but no complaints so far and staff are nice too. There's a big beer garden which is very useful for the kids and dogs.

The ice creams here are beautiful! Really generous portions and are very well presented. The customer service we received was outstanding, my daughter had a massive meltdown (ASD) and they were nothing but supportive, understanding and helpful. We'd had a very tough day today with meltdowns galore and this one was by far the worst of the day yet I never felt alone or judged. People like you make the biggest difference and I am so very grateful for you going out of your way to help and care. Thank you x
