Black Lake Inn in Stafford

Met up with a friend for lunch, both had the roast lunch followed by desert, great value £12.95 each from the 2 course menu. All very enjoyable.

I would like to thank Lee and Cheryl and team so very much for accommodating 12 people at very short notice due to us being very badly let down by another business quite close to the black lake inn. The whole team rallyed around setting up the table and got us seated very quickly and put us all at ease after a stressful let down. The Food was excellent everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals,it was well presented,hot and cooked well. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful nothing was to much trouble. You all made us really welcome and rescued a special birthday meal that was almost a disaster but you and your team made it happen and we were all so greatful.THANK YOU All.

With a group of friends. Chose; Soup of the Day (mushroom), and Risotto for the main. Soup was more of a broth, far too thick, not particularly with a taste of mushrooms either. Risotto............well, as a mate opposite commented "doesn't look appetising!) it actually looked like vomit. It was served on a flat dinner plate, which didn't help its appearance. Risotto should be served in a deep plate / bowl. Rice was undercooked and yet the dish was too liquidy! Didn't mention anything to the waiting on staff when asked if everything was ok as, didn't wish to spoil the atmospere / craik with my colleagues. Mentioned all of this to the manager? on leaving to which he thanked me. On this experience alone, not a place I would return to in a hurry.

Arrived at the bar to be greeted by a very pleasant young lady, there was also an older gentleman who gave everyone a suspicious dirty look whilst remaining silent. The room was full and very noisy, due to a number of factors, no carpets on the stone floors, a terrible sound system with an unintelligible row on it , and a couple of large parties trying to outshout each other above the sound system. The food was very nice and well presented, the only negative was that the chips were only lukewarm. We were charged for a sweet that we didn’t have? On the whole wouldn’t go again.

A family meal out . My partner ordered a fillet steak cooked medium to well done. The first attempt came cremated. This was sent back. The second attempt was burnt on the outside and bleeding on the inside. This again was sent back and we told the young girl we didn't want any other meal. We then asked for the bill only to find they had put an extra steak on the bill . They apologise and we paid and left. We won't be going back. Very disappointed and annoyed.

Me and my family went for my birthday last night. Staff were great and very attentive. The food was so good and steak was cooked perfectly. The price is very good for what you get (lots). It’s nice to go somewhere where the food is homemade. There doesn’t seem to be many places left that do homemade food. My husband had a lovely chat with Shaz (landlady) and everyone made us feel very welcome. This is our 3rd time here and will always return. Great food, staff and beer. What more could you ask for. Great job guys!

Been here a few times with my girlfriend. Always a very nice experience. The atmosphere is friendly, service staff are very welcoming/attentive. We are also both vegetarian and found this is the best menu for vegetarians of the pubs we have been to nearby. Definitely recommend and will be returning often!

Visited this country pub/restaurant withy girlfriend recently for a birthday meal ,I have to say the whole experience from start to finish was wonderful ! The staff ,the ambience and the delicious food . I would thoroughly recommend this place.

Lovely Sunday lunch, huge slabs of beef and loads of perfectly cooked veg. They were very accommodating with a special request on my booking too. Really friendly place, we're so lucky to have it just a few minutes from home.

Food wasn’t great to be honest and a bit expensive for what it is. Apart from that, staff were friendly and welcoming. Won’t be returning (Sorry).

We took the mother in law for a late Christmas meal , and I have to say that my beef roast was not a pretty sight at all !!! I can't understand for the life of me why the kitchen feels the need to pile roast potatoes mash and beef on top of a soggy over sized Yorkshire pudding swimming in gravy . Would much prefer to see the vegetables come in a separate dish . I only wish I had taken a photograph. I will not be going there again

Met up with family yesterday for my brothers birthday lunch. First time we’ve been. Lovely warm welcome, all the staff were great. Excellent, home cooked food served in a lovely environment. As a retired chef myself, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this lovely restaurant.

We've been the Black Lake a few times, always been very nice. No problems, staff are lovely and friendly.

Called in after taking a friend out for the afternoon on way home and had a really super meal and it was extremely great value. There was a 2 or 3 course special menu with plenty of choice and also a full menu available. Will definitely return and would definitely recommend.

After having to find somewhere at very short notice due to rude staff and a cancelled booking elsewhere. We were really happy with the food and service here at the Black Lake Inn. The staff were friendly and had a laugh and joke with us. The food was really good, we mostly had the festive menu and it was really, really tasty. We will be back soon.

Went there yesterday on the Sunday .. myself,my Brother and my Daughter. Right .. where do I start .. I’ll start with the service ( impeccable..the staff were absolutely brilliant.. they made us feel so welcome and could not do enough for us .. Anyway.. let’s get down to the food… I had a King Prawn starter and I literally thought there was a Fishing Trawler outside because they were that Fresh .. My main was a Turkey dinner .. It was cooked to a very high standard.. perfection personified...and it was literally a massive chunk of Turkey .. It was the best dinner I’ve ever had eating out .. without a shadow of doubt.. Much respect to staff.. the owners and the Chef.. An absolute pleasure it was to spend the afternoon in there .. Fine dining 👌🏻

Booked a party of 4 older people for Friday lunch... Had selections from 3 course menu.. I had the cheese and red onion melt for starters... Mostly red onion with a smayteringbof cheese. I had the roast turkey dinner which looked nice but alas wasn't hot.. Neither was the roast beef dinner. The apple and rhubarb sweets were very hot (as they should be) but the order I'd profiter rolls was forgotten. Unlikely I'll go again.

4 couples went for a Christmas get together, the service was really good and the staff friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of food and when it came it was well presented and delicious. We will definitely be going back.

An excellent meal, Christmas dinner very good value and ample portions. Tables for 4 could be larger, alot to fit on. Good parking, quiz night on a Thursday after 9.0 is popular.

Went to the black lake in for pie night on Tuesday 21st of November 2023. The front of house staff were very professional and nothing was too much to ask. I had the lamb kebabs which were cooked to protection. Then I had the peppered steak pie on the pie night which is only on a Tuesday. Absolutely delicious mean and good portions. All homemade and would definitely go back. The chefs clearly know that there doing and would recommend to anyone. As its prior made food and made with with some thought and pride. So well domestically to all staff for Excellent front of house and excellent food produced from the chefs.

Sunday roast not hot and not as good as in the past, we go as a family a lot but will be giving it a miss, trying somewhere else on a Sunday. Staff were very good not a problem with them.

A great pub with a nice menu, and service to match. We went for a date night that we booked online. The menu was varied and interesting, with a range of drinks to match. We had a starter and a main course each, with a couple of drinks to boot. The steak I had for my main course was particularly nice, but the gammon my girlfriend had was also very nice. Service throughout was polite and timely, and the setting was well maintained and laid out. Well definitely return for another visit.

Decided to go to the Black Lake again and once again you cannot fault the food, absolutely superb and all the girl staff were extremely pleasant,if you decide to try here for food then make sure that you have a very good appetite or you go on an empty stomach,the portions are enormous.

Just Okay! The Sunday lunch was nice but vegetables were undercooked and the gravy was just the instant type, which was disappointing in a Sunday roast. The mushroom stroganoff was bland, tasteless and boring. The Cajun chicken was tasty but chips were again bland and undercooked. The visit was just okay, we would not rush back. However, the staff were nice but the tables felt sticky and need of a proper clean. The toilets were clean.

The managers and staff are very rude! They are arrogant and judgemental, a woman who worked there, Lisa I think she said her name was, got spoken down to in such a hostile and disgusting manner and i overheard the female manager tell someone how 'dodgy' she looked and how she doesn't fit in here , in front of me and my family and she was one of the friendliest, humorous waiters, who made my kids laugh and genuinely provided such a great service. Wouldn't recommend if you don't look rich enough!!!!

We went on the 25th of august it was Friday fish and chips night good deal. Really enjoyed it so went back on Friday 22nd September because we really enjoyed it the first time! Oh wow what a shock we had we were both up all night from 4am early Saturday morning sick 🤢 cramps and really didn’t feel good. I rang the pub on the Monday afternoon to tell them just to make them aware! No manager was available so I left my details to the young lady on the phone! Never heard anything off them! It's a gem of a pub / restaurant for anyone who enjoys great food at a reasonable price. Ample parking which is needed as it's a drive to get to, lovely staff and great portions of food. Totally recommended it 👌

Fantastic meals with good options on the menu and good prices. Somewhere you can eat regularly. We had the 2 course deal, and the portions were huge. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. There is a car parking area and suitable access for a wheelchair. I will definitely be back.

I had the tempura battered prawns with sweet chili sauce for starters and the 10oz rump steak for main, both were cooked perfectly. My wife had the veg chilli which she said was lovely and for dessert had the homemade cheesecake of the day. Great portion sizes too but they do offer smaller sizes

Very warm and welcoming country pub with very pleasant staff. We went for my fiancé's birthday on a weekday at lunchtime and had a three course menu. We were expecting the food to be nice after reading reviews but was very pleasantly surprised when all three courses arrived. We could not pick fault with anything. The portion sizes were huge and the quality of the food was impeccable. It was even more of a wow when you compared the quality of the food, portion size and taste against the price of the three course meal. My partner and I were both hugely impressed and couldn't find fault at all. When making my reservation I mentioned in the comments that it was my fiancé's birthday and asked if there was anyway that they could make his dessert a little special with maybe a chocolate piped 'Happy birthday' on his plate. They went above and beyond and actually did ask I cheekily requested and added a candle in the middle of his dessert, delivered with the members of staff wishing him a happy birthday which made my fiancé's day. A wonderful experience which we will definitely be repeating on a regular basis. With the cost of Iiving so high at the moment the food actually cost less than our average takeaway and was world's apart. Went for Sunday lunch. Easy to find and a good car park. Guided to a table immediately upon entry. Service was normal no more no less. I had gammon upon the recommendation of a fellow guest. The gammon was tougher than I would have expected, I didn't complain as I was being treated by a friend. The rest of the meal was decent. I ordered apple crumble with cream as opposed to custard, I received the smallest jug of cream imaginable. I asked a waiter for some more cream and to his credit he brought a decent sized jug to the table. There was nothing really wrong with the service and only the gammon was disappointing but the meal experience was just okay.

First time going here. Steaks were cooked to perfection. Really nice food. Will be going again.

Abit disappointed, food was ok, had a lamb shank which was really nice, but the rest of the meal let it down. Basic pub food for a quick stop is ok, but for a treat meal, far better places to go. Service was ok, never really engaged with the staff.

Nice place and good food, well worth a visit. There is a camping field out the back which I will look at for next time!
