we always try to come here when we can get in and don’t fancy cooking one ourselves. the meat selection is always good and very generous, their roast potatoes are the best - lovely and crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside. it is a carvery so can help yourself. they unfortunately don’t have any mash but we just add extra roasties! their gravy is lovely and homemade with the meat juices in. the staff are lovely and attentive. our favourite place to go for sunday lunch!

This is by far the best Sunday Lunch in the area. Very well organised - even though it is a carvery they make sure you do not have to queue. Meat fabulous and a great selection of vegetables. Going to try and book now for this Sunday - definitely our 'go to' place.

The carvery at The Black Horse is consistently delicious. There is a fantastic choice of meats and veg with Yorkshire puds, pigs in blankets and roasties plus all the condiments you would want. It’s a generous portion and the interior is spacious, spotless and full of character. Highly recommended.

Excellent carvery here today, Great service. My only negative comment is the room became very cold, not enough heating on in there and the cloakroom.

The Sunday roast was very good and reasonably priced. However, there are no baby change facilities at all even thought there is a large Disabled Rest Room, with plenty of space to fit a wall mounted baby change unit. (We were told to change the baby on the wash hand basin counter top in the ladies toilets)! The owners were unfriendly and we heard one of the staff remark about another diner 'just smile and take their money' Disappointing attitude as the place is nicely refurbished and the food was good.

Visited today for Sunday lunch. Havent been here for a couple of years and we were not dissappointed. The Pub has been refurbished and is just absolutely stunning and has been done to such a high standard. The food was delicious. The best Sunday lunch Ive had in a long time. Choice of three meats, Yorkshire puds, stuffing, pigs in blankets, a beautiful range of fresh vegetables and tasty gravy. Only one of us decided to have dessert as 2 of us were just so full from lunch. I did have a taste of my partners chocolate and hazelnut slice which was again so delicious. I would highly recommend this beautiful pub to anyone going for Sunday lunch, you will not be disappointed and we can wait to return. Thankyou so very much xx

Excellent Sunday lunch as always ( been several times) Choice of three meats ( or you can have bit of all three) , Yorkshire pud, pigs in blankets and a huge amount of choice for your veggies. Lovely gravy and choice of accompaniments ie apple sauce and the like. Welcoming staff and revamped interior offering more space, and there is ample parking. Value for money. Went to The Checkers in Montgomery for Fathers day lunch and The Blackhorse meal is way better 😁👍

Visited with my husband today. The carvery was delicious and constantly being topped up which made it fresh and hot. My husband is very fussy with his food and tends to leave something on his plate that he doesn't like. I am pleased to say he ate everything, which is a first in my book. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere was great. Would recommend anyone to come and try it and going to recommend to our family and friends.

We were recommended to try the carvery by the owners of our rental cottage. We were four adults and two children. The landlord was very welcoming and friendly. We had made a reservation which was good because it was quite busy. The carvery was delicious. I don't know how they cook their beef but it was extremely tender, the roasties were great as were the new spuds. The veg was great and the gravy delicious. We asked the waiter about the desserts. There was a good choice and they were only £3 and £2 for the kids. Wow! We all had one and enjoyed those too. The waiter was very friendly and helpful. It was just great all round.

Have been visiting for a few years with family and have always enjoyed the Sunday dinners. Although they are always welcoming and are very popular, have found this year the prices have increased and the meat helpings notably less generous. It's worth taking note when a little chunk of turkey comes away when it's sliced then put back in the tin! The slices have already decreased in size. Might be something worth considering when deciding next visit.

Our family of 9 visited the Black Horse as it came highly recommended by previous guests at the rented holiday house next door but one where we were staying. A warm welcome on a rainy night set the scene for the evening. There was ample time allowed for us all to make our choices from the menu. Our food was excellent and the portions filling. The desert menu was very tempting and proved irresistible. We all managed to find room for desert and when our 7 year old grandaughter asked if she could have just a bowl of custard, a large bowl was brought with no trouble. We all agreed we had an excellent meal in a lovely old village pub. Would certainly recommend a visit.

Returned to the Black Horse Inn for the third time today and the food was just as good this time around. Each time, we've had the Sunday Carvery which is excellent value at under £10 a head. A choice of four meats (all perfectly cooked; tender and delicious), roast and new potatoes, good selection of vegetables, gravy and lots of different sauces. Perfect and 100 times better than the dry meat and veg usually found at chain pubs offering Sunday carveries for more money! Coffee after was lovely too. It's always busy for Sunday lunch so would suggest booking in advance as we had. Thanks also to the staff for packaging up our left overs for my dog who I'd had to leave at home (worth noting for dog owners that the pub isn't dog friendly) - he also thought it was delicious!

Arrived at restaurant on time, not shown to table ,genteman behind bar just pointed and said it's in there ,Had the carvery meal, VERY AVERAGE and asked for a tea plate to put 2 potatoes a few carrots and some gravy on for the baby , the baby who loves his food could not eat it as carrots too hard and gravy very strong . We were then at 1 30 asked to leave table and go and sit in bar to finish our drinks , no room for us all to sit in bar so we paid up and left ,only to be charged over £6 for the babies uneaten meal , It goes without saying we will never be using the restaurant again .

We phoned on Sunday spur of the moment to book a carvery, we'd been out for a long walk with the kids and friends so were pretty hungry! We didn't think we'd get in as booking is normally necessary however we were lucky they managed to fit us in. Quick order of drinks at the bar and shown straight to our table. The system in place is that you wait at your table until called, makes good sense as you can just enjoy your drink and go up when it's your turn, no standing around! Thankfully we were called pretty quickly (ravenous) and the friendly landlady was soon filling our plates with the most wonderful looking meat! I opted for the pork, Turkey and just a little lamb...... Then the fabulous home made Yorkshire was added along with pigs in blankets, or ticklers as they're known in maesbrook, beautiful crispy roasties and a nice selection of other veg. This was topped off by lashings of deliciously meaty gravy..... I was in heaven and it really tasted every bit as good as it looked. Thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely be going back SOON! One of the best carverys I've had!

Went for the carvery with my girlfriend after looking at a few places on the internet. We got there early and the lady that sorted us was nice, got us drinks and sat us. The main course (picture added) was really nice, thank god we went when we did as I got some of the last bit of lamb and the beef was cooked medium-rare so better than some over cooked beef I've had in a few places and the girl serving was chatty and friendly. Pudding wasn't great (I had the Mississippi cake and it was bland and too hot to eat and my girlfriends crème brûlée wasn't as good as I make at home) and the young girl, that served us when we paid, didn't seem to care about anything and wasn't very polite and either needs training or replacing. All in all it was good and we would return but probably wouldn't have pudding. The gravy needs to be quite a bit thicker.

Directed me to the lunch means and chose beefburger and chips (with salad) and dirt coke. Place virtually empty. Time stamp on receipt 1313. Food arrived 1345 which seemed excessive. A small portion of chips, and a burger in a bun. No salad. The waitress seemed surprised I might want to eat outside on a sunny day in the country. Cost £9.95 (incl crisps ) and while food was nice enough, it was not as advertised or that interesting. I suspect better in the evenings. Picture of food as below (no salad as paid for)

Was looking for somewhere to eat whilst staying locally on holiday. Called in at The Black Horse and had a truly fantastic steak. The prices are reasonable (although not cheap pub grub if that's what you;re looking for), and worth every penny. Myself and my husband both had steaks which were cooked to perfection and our sons had burgers the first night then fish & chips the second night. The owner was very friendly and chatty and advised us he was also a butcher (whcih explained the great steaks and why the burgers were so much better than you usually get). This was supposed to be a treat one night but we couldn't then resist returning for our last night the night after too where we then sampled desserts too .... delicious!! Good job we weren't staying any longer or probably would have been back again .... will certainly be going again on our next visit to the area. ps I've also heard from others at the place we were staying that the Sunday carvery here is to die for .... booking advisable though.

Eaten here many times over the years. The food is always fresh and cooked to perfection. Staff are always friendly and there is a homely, genial atmosphere. A good old fashioned village pub that welcomes visitors to the area.

Have been to Sunday carvery and what a delight. As a family we have been going to this pub for over 40 yrs and seen many changes. always a pleasure whether popping in just for a quiet drink or enjoying a Piping hot meal and as much or as little as you like. True quality food. The staff are also very friendly. Well done to you all.

Well we don't know what has happened but the food was cold , meat was dry and could not be carved , the waitress took plates before everyone had finished ( Maybe they got her from McDonalds ) To much attidude for some one young, just not a pleasant experience. Avoid until they get a new cook and staff.

Really lovely roast, friendly service, great value for money. Pudding was also huge! If i was to have one small criticism it would be that some of the veg was not quite warm enough, however the gravy was piping hot which warmed it up fine. We will definitely be returning soon!

We are here on a Saturday night, when it was busy with a party but the service was quick and staff friendly. My wife had the cottage pie and I had a steak. The cottage pie was incredibly tasty and the gravy amazing! (Her words)My steak was well cooked, and both portions were very generous. The meals were excellent value at £8 each and I would definitely recommend here. I would describe this as wholesome hearty homemade pub grub!

My second visit here for Sunday lunch and the food wasn't as good this time, judging by how quiet they were I think other people would agree. The meat was nice but the veg a bit boring, why not try things like red cabbage etc. instead of basic carrots bad broccoli. The roast potatoes are very poor. So if your looking for a better than average lunch then here's fine. But the decor and surroundings aren't great.

The food was very good and well presented, with very large portions. My wife and I had fish and chips plus mushy peas, the chips were some of the best I have tasted lately. It was a mid week night and it cost £14.00 for two, great value.

All you can eat curry night is ideal. A choice of 3 curries of varying strength with rice, chips, poppadoms and nan bread. Just be careful not to eat too much!!!

You really cannot beat their carvery. The choice today was beef, lamb, turkey OR pork (or a bit of each if you want!). There's a huge choice of veg and the gravy is amazing. The staff are always lovely and polite and efficient. We've also eaten in an evening, including their curry nights and they are excellent too. I'm so glad we only live a few miles away from The Black Horse and highly recommend it.

Very relaxed atmosphere, with a cosy real fire, we were made to feel very welcomed. I had a steak, which was cooked just as I asked and was very tender and came with plenty of trimmings, my partner had the lasagne which she must have enjoyed because she left a clean plate which is a rarity for her. The bill was very reasonable for the food we had, would definitely recommend it.

We booked for dinner as we knew the White Lion had reopened for food with a new chef. We were not disappointed the food was delicious, we had the rib eye steak, the sea bass special and the penne vodka. All were beautifully cooked and served. The service was great and the staff were friendly. We will definitely be eating here again.

The service was friendly and the food absolutely first-rate. Can recommend the Ploughman’s which is loaded with cheese, really top notch ham, and lovely crusty bread. Would have loved to stay for cake but we were all too full.

Have been coming here for over a year and their Panang curry is the best! Portion sizes are generous for price - we always have enough leftover for a good size meal the day following. Staff is friendly too

Our second visit which was as good as the first. A great pub that has a mix of walkers/locals etc, very friendly & welcoming. Starters came with a lovely site salad(not the usual lettuce/tomato)but everything & fresh too. A sizzling steak on its way to a customer…we were sold on the smell as it passed by. We ordered ribeye, very nice & you cook it to your liking on the hot stone.
