Black Horse in Hinckley and Bosworth

Came here for a weekday evening meal as had been recommended. The food was well presented and full of flavour. Had the soup to start followed by the duck dish- definitely enjoyed and would highly recommend. The only downside to our experience was the older lady who me and my partner believe may be manager? We were appalled the way she was bossing and commanding colleagues around (no manners) whilst she was doing nothing herself most of the night. Other than that service from the waitress was great and would love to return for a pie and wine evening.

Great food and service as always. Moules to start, which was very large, cote du porc was amazing …….…. No room for desert!

Had 2 courses, soup and roast beef . Both cooked to perfection. Brooke gave especially great service. Was with my mum, brother, wife and two nephews and they all enjoyed their meal

Out with friend at The Black Horse. Fabulous food. The venue is very clean and the staff are very knowledgeable about the food they serve. Karen our waitress for the evening was attentive without being over bearing. Very polite with a lovely table manner. A must visit if you're in the area. I'd say the best eatery in Mkt Bosworth. A bonus if you only want a drink or bar snack they have a lovely wine bar area and outside seating area. All in all a lovely venue .

I cannot recommend The Black Horse highly enough. With the incredible support of Caron, she helped me to arrange a very personalised and special wake for my husband, Peter. Nothing was too much trouble and everything was arranged exactly as I had wanted. The buffet food was first class and Caron arranged for our special music (reflective of Peter’s love of music) to play throughout the after service reception. Thoughtful, caring and supportive throughout, I’d like to extend a big, heartfelt thank you to Caron for making what was a very difficult time so much easier. Also a big thank you to all involved at The Black Horse, in ensuring the day was everything I had hoped it would be for Peter. Thank you so much.

The food was well presented and tasted good. However the quantity didn't mirror the quality and our entire party felt over charged and under nourished, Our starter was the panco cod cheeks with prawns in a katsu sauce. How do you justify £12 for two prawns, two miniscule bits of cod and a drizzle of curry sauce? The main wasn't much better The menu reads rack of lamb. It's actually only 2 thin lamb chops for the princely sum of £32. and accompanying vegetables needed to be ordered separately.

Sad to have to write this but we have been regulars for over 13 years and recently we have noticed the decline in quality and service, the service in particular now is dreadful, only one or two staff (older ones) have any idea about customer service now Bill was over £100 of starters and steaks both were cold when served , cold food on cold plates, not offered wine list or water or steak knifes, sent back both meals and received no apology or reason. What was a pleasure to use is now poor and second rate.

Visited for the first time on Tuesday and had the best meal out for a long time! The atmosphere was really good for a Tuesday evening, the food was just incredible! My partner and I had the Scallops to start which were stunning and then I had the Asian styled Pork Belly and the sauce was just out of this world it was so good. Service was perfect to top off the evening as well, had a lovely conversation with Karen who took the time to speak with us and check on our evening throughout, a real asset to the restaurant. Can’t wait to return!

Firstly food was nice only few were saying the lamb dish was more like a pulled pork so not what they were expecting I would have rated this place lot more but when I was sorting out the bill as we were all paying for each others me n my partner had travelled a very long way to meet up with friends to then a young waitress came up n said In not a nice manner is that Scottish money we can’t take that I said yes you can as it’s legal tender to my friend went to check it out came back n said won’t take it as they had fakes before , so we have had fakes here also but not even for one second would we refuse English money we all live in uk and have the same currency if it were euros or other currency I would totally get it and it came across very discrimination if you think our money is always fake which I can says it’s not just our country it happens all over the world then you should think about buying them machines or the pen to check if it’s fake or not I will not return when I’m next in the area

Heard some lovely things about the Black Horse so we booked for our anniversary Starters were great. Wife had the scallops and I had the asparagus tart. Mains were chicken and the Rossini. My wife loved the chicken, my steak was cooked blue? Cooked perfectly! Puds were great as well The stand out memories for me were the sauces on the savoury dishes? Who ever put them together is a very talented chef Definitely will return

Last Thursday evening The Black Horse hosted a retirement dinner for our Company. The service from Caron from start to finish, including the organisation and communication before hand, was excellent. The staff on the night couldn't have been more helpful. From canapes and a welcome drink to a beautiful two-course dinner, followed by coffee, it was a memorable evening for us all. The outdoor space was perfect for after dinner speeches. Will definitely be looking to re-book this venue for future events. Thank you all.

Fabulous Father's Day breakfast. High cost matched quality and food excellent. Restaurant looked lovely and table set beautifully. Good service. Appreciated the unlimited tea and coffee. Didn't appreciate asking for no black pudding on one plate and was told the meals were plated up so you got everything on the plate regardless. What if there were dietary requirements or allergies?! Low two star rating as have never been told what I can or cannot have on my plate of food as a paying customer! Very poor attitude indeed!

Great service from very friendly staff, the Sunday lunch was fabulous from the starter , meal, and desserts . We had a great time there.

Went for an early Father’s Day meal, sadly begrudged paying the bill at the end. I don’t live particularly nearby, but it was one of my parents favourite restaurants so we decided to go there of course. We had an early dinner table booked, and barely made any conversation with any of my family due to the sheer noise volume of the table next to us. If it was a large party or if it was during Christmas time, we’d half expect it, but it was a very rowdy small group of 4 which had clearly had too much to drink. After my husband had to shout across the table my mums name on 5 occasions, in an attempt to generate some form of conversation, Id had enough and asked the bar staff after our starters to get the table to settle down with the nature of us being in a restaurant, and not a bar, and the volume levels from that table I was convinced would take the roof off. The staff did nothing to appease the situation, my mum even mentioned it at the end herself and they did nothing. The staff just said, we would move you if we could, but we couldn’t so. Nothing was offered, despite the several comments made, it was just completely shrugged off. You would expect if they couldn’t resolve the issue at hand, they would offer a gesture of goodwill, such as small amount taken off the bill due to the issues with the complaints mentioned, even a complimentary drink at the end to apologise- out of respect for our custom, but there was just an expectation to pay a £250.00 bill in full despite mention of complaint both during and at the end of the meal. The whole idea of raising issues whilst your experiencing them, is to give the company chance to resolve the situation and please the customer whilst they’re at the establishment, rather than having to resort to a review due to the feeling of lack and care for the customers time and money spent with them. The food here is beautiful, the decor and the menus of a high calibre, however such a shame an evening spoiled for such a high price and reputation you expect more.

Came for a birthday meal with my partner as we stayed in market bosworth, the staff, the food, the beer were all incredible, we couldn't of asked for more.

Popped into the black horse yesterday for some pre wedding drinks and accidentally ripped my trousers. I asked the lovely staff if they could help sort out the rip and they found some sewing stuff and stitched it up like new. I can’t wait to come back and try the food as it looked amazing. We enjoyed a light lunch which was delicious and very well presented, I had homemade vegetable soup with sourdough bread and my husband had a baguette which came with chips and salad. The service was spot on too.

I was asked to book a meal for 22 people as my colleague was retiring. I emailed the Black Horse and Caron responded quickly to say they were able to book this for us. Caron was so helpful from start to finish and nothing was too much trouble. We pre-ordered as there were so many of us but on the day the food came out quickly and all of the food was fantastic and really well presented. The service was also great. I would definitely book here again for a large amount of people as everything ran so smoothly and my colleague who was retiring said that everything was perfect.

We had the most amazing meals. I had pan fried hake my husband had the monkfish katsu and they were both delicious. Service was amazing. I would highly recommend a visit.

A friendly welcome from the team set the mood for a lovely family lunch. The staff were attentive and helpful in both explaining the menu and meeting the specific needs of members of our party. The food was excellent, several people ordered the steak which all agreed was tasty and cooked to individual tastes. Other dishes looked great and were also reported as delicious. For dessert, the bread and butter pudding was an excellent way to end the lunchtime gathering. The restaurant’s interior design and seating arrangements made for a relaxing, unrushed environment that complemented the quality of food well. All in all, a highly recommended place to meet and eat.

We dine at the Black Horse fairly regularly, and always have an enjoyable experience, as well as a fabulous meal. We particularly like the theme nights offered in addition to the main menu. Lucy, Sasha, Caron, Paul and the rest of the team are absolutely brilliant and we look forward to dining here again soon.

Wow. The Black Horse has to be the best place for excellent food, drinks and service. A very beautiful and well maintained restaurant. With very efficient staff who are always more than welcome to help in any way. The food is next level, absolutely delicious, hats off to the chefs and the kitchen team. Nothing short of an amazing experience from start to finish. Every thing is of a very high standard and run very well by a great manager and team of staff. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be booking again. Thank you for a great evening.

Caron really looked after us! We had a great experience for breakfast on Saturday 30th March. We ordered a few bespoke things and even got to take leftovers home for the dog. Thank you again for a lovely meal - a great start to our bank holiday weekend. Jess xx

Had booked breakfast as part of ongoing milestone birthday treats. As always, received a supremely warm welcome from Caron and her colleagues. Every breakfast ingredient was high quality and perfectly cooked, served on a hot dining plate to keep food warm. Bottomless coffee was appreciated too, served by Caron who wasn’t invasive but was attentive, and very smiley and polite. I’d forgotten I had paid a deposit so was grateful they deducted it from the bill. Can’t wait to go back.

We visit the BH every couple of months or so and having read the previous reviews from the past couple of weeks, I was completely shocked. On our visit today, the food was excellent as always and the staff, from front of house to waiting, were polite, attentive and accommodating. Even shared holiday tips with Caron!! Will def be back as always have a great meal and experience!

This is an amazing restaurant the staff are all so friendly and always go above and beyond nothing is too much trouble for them food, wine excellent and our excellent server Caron always so friendly always remembers us and always interested in the family a lovely place to go!!!

It was pie night - very good food, really enjoyed it. Onsite parking was convenient. Staff were pleasant. It was pretty busy (Monday evening), but wait times between courses were ok. Dessert was gorgeous too!

Me and my sister went here for Friday steak night as an early birthday celebration for me. Everything was fantastic, from the staff who were lovely, shout out to Karen and Sasha and the food was delicious. The did the best cherry pudding ever! 🤤 Would highly recommend x

We have been visiting the Black Horse for years, with many Sunday lunches and special family celebratory occasions. The food, as always, was unfaultable, and the waitresses were smiley and attentive 10 out of 10. However, we were greeted ( and I use that term sarcastically) by a miserable, obnoxious, and rude middle-aged 'blonde' woman. She did not smile once. I gave our surname and she said table of four, to which I replied oh no I only booked it for 3 of us. She glared at us, as if it was our fault and an inconvenience (it still would have been the same table!), gave the menus to the waitress and turned her back. What a real shame. If this was your first experience, you certainly wouldn't return. What a shame. Whatever her role is, she could ruin the amazing reputation that the Black Horse has had for years. Vile.

The food has always in our opinion been very good here and since the ownership changed the food and menu quality continues to be an excellent standard. However, I feel on our last visit the front of house staff let the side down. To give a couple of examples, when a bottle of white wine was delivered to our table already opened and the waitress asked if one of us would like to taste it we said and I quote, 'it should be fine thank you, it's not corked is it?' to which the waitress replied ' Oh yes, it's corked, definitely not a screw top' ! Bless her. Not her fault, but please training, training, training. In addition on arrival to the table the bottle of white wine was no where near cold enough. It was a room temperature bottle of white plunged into a cool bucket. When paying £30.00 plus for a bottle of white we expect it to arrive at the table already chilled. We have made these comments in the hope they may be taken on board to enhance the customers overall experience.

We are long-time supporters of The Black Horse, and whilst we go infrequently, we have been doing so for many many years. The reason has always been great food and plenty of choice on the menu. This time we weren't blown away. Whilst the waitress was lovely, the front of house person was somewhat surly. The menu was paired down to a 'Winter Menu' which had a limited choice on it, and the food was 'okay' but not knock out. The restaurant was fairly empty, and it just seemed to have lost some of its former character and vibe. I don't think we will be rushing back in the future, sadly.

We hadn't been to the Black Horse for a while and thought we would give it a try. Still a nice place with a decent selection of drinks. Our vegan friends were impressed with the choice of options for them. We had decided to go mains then desserts and from then on we were on a downward slope.... The main courses took an hour from ordering to arrive, even asking their whereabouts a bit before. My wife's food was luke warm at best and needed to be taken away to be reheated. We had to keep trying to attract attention to get more drinks and finally had to ask twice for the bill. There seemed to be plenty of staff but no-one paying attention to the diners and making sure things were happening when they should be. We were not alone in our issue of slow food as others tables also asked about their meals. Two of the mains got the thumbs up and two were "meh". Same score for the deserts. It's a real shame as its a great location and nicely decorated etc, A few improvements would really lift the place based on our experience.

Perfect Sunday lunch.We were a group of 9. Service was faultless and the food was gorgeous! Had the hake served with generous side vegetables.the cheese cake was delicious and had to try the lemon posset with the basil ice cream, amazing flavour combination.Definetely recommend!
