Spur of the moment visit. So worth it. Great liver & bacon for main. Then the hot cherry dessert to die for.

Came to pub for the first time with husband and friends. Had a lovely Sunday roast. Very delicious food and nice atmosphere.

Amazing homemade food I had the steak and ale pie with fresh vegetables, it was absolutely beautiful

Popped in for a quick bit and pleasantly surprised how nice it was. With the dogs and that didn't seem to matter.

Popped in for a drink and light bite to eat. Service was excellent from dark-haired lady serving behind the bar. Crayfish and prawn salad really good.

Went with family for a Sunday roast, staff were excellent, food was top notch with a range of different options, and the pub is a quiet, respectable place with nice patrons.

Really great meal. Would definitely recommend if you’re in or from the area.

Always a great meal and reasonably priced

Food was good, had to wait a little while but staff were friendly and it was very busy, it was also for a reasonable price per person. Was hoping to see the pub kitty but there's always another time. I will say the only necessarily bad thing was the low ceiling but then I am 6,4 so it's more of a me problem

My Dad and I visited the black horse. I was very disappointed. When entering the pub I noticed there were cat food bowls with food in them on the resurant chairs and when entering the bar I noticed a cat on the chairs, I know it says its animal friendly but when theres food being served i feel its very unhygienic. The staff were very unfriendly we wernt taken to our table we were just told what table we were on. Arriving at the table there was food over the floor also under the table and the table mats were in need of a wipe down all this should have been done before we arrived. The drinks we had were not nice they tasted asthough they had been watered down. The food was alright but certainly wasn't as expected. Portion sizes not great not for the money chips didn't look fresh. I really feel more time needs taking over the cleaning and the hygiene. Afraid to say I will not be recommending this pub to anyone and will not be returning.

The food was great. Much better than what you get in an average pub. We had a special request regarding diet and it was handled without any problem. Prices are good and above all very friendly service. If I'm in the area I will definitely come back.

They were very accommodating and found us a table even though they were busy . My partner enjoyed his chilli and my steak and kidney pudding was absolutely delicious, just like my nans used to be .

Food, service and atmosphere all 5 ⭐️. The vegetable lasagne and the biscroff cheesecake were delicious. Portion size just right, presentation very good. The atmosphere was that of a country pub, tastefully decorated with hints of modern decor in a country style pub. Service was brilliant, all in all a positive visit, would definitely return and recommend. Staff including Chris were helpful, cheerful, friendly and professional.

went here while camping across the road. best food i’ve had in years, and very friendly staff. the place was clean, and food came out quickly, presented very nicely. the chef came to speak with us personally, and you can tell he cares about his job. the lady at front of house was very sweet and welcoming, once again chatting to us personally. such a warm, friendly place that is well priced for such a good level of food. absolutely amazing, would definitely go here again.

Nice place, went there on Sunday afternoon after a wood walk. A good amount of parking spaces at the main road and at the back yard. A bit dark inside. We've got a turkey Sunday roast and a steak pie. All tasty though I wish portions were slightly bigger and waiting time was slightly less. Overall good impression

The waitress with the pink bit in her hair seemed very stressed and quite blunt, when taking our order she was huffing!!! Kids food served in a bowl. No fruit in soft drinks. Food presentation- there was none. Food was very basic but edible.

A lovely country pub on the road towards Battle. It’s a traditional pub with good honest, reasonably priced meals. Stopped there this time for Sunday lunch and dessert. Really enjoyed it and the service was great. I will return again and again. The colleagues are really lovely too.

We (as a party of 8) went for lunch, we all had something different but that didn't deter the owner, even when other people turned up without booking, she was amazing! The dinners were scrummy as were the puddings... I wouldn't hesitate to back or recommend it to anyone else.

Wow had a fabulous roast dinner here today. Great price loads of roasts,4 portions of veg. Chrissie who served us was so nice. One of the customers,Harry? even gave up his table for us . Great pub,great service,great atmosphere 👌

Traditional grub in a traditional looking pub. The staff are friendly and accommodating. Good sized portions and reasonable prices. With parking, there is a good sized car park to the rear of the pub which is much safer than the parking facing the busy road out of Hastings. Access is just to the left of the pub.

Went for a meal when on holiday in our motorhome. The food was very good including the meal for the dog and Reasonably priced. The staff were very helpful and friendly as was the atmosphere. I would recommend this pub without hesitation.

Nicely cooked meal, more than enough. Nice friendly service and very sufficient.

The tap in the toilet didn't work and the sanitizer had run out, as had the toilet paper. The steak pie was very tasty, but the veg was lacklustre and reminded me of school dinners. Given the number of people in the pub - not many - service was slow. I spent all the time I was in the pub sneezing because of my allergic reaction to the dust and cat hair/dander. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Had a lovely meal here the other day, my partner and I, we were on a time limit as we had to get to a funeral and the staff were very accommodating fitting us in before another table, the food was fantastic and fresh cooked, I had the Haddock my partner had the burger and they were both lovely. We wold have stayed for pudding but ran out of time. But don't worry we'll be back.

Never been here before...but I liked it! I will go again, a nice quiet country pub where you can actually talk without being drowned out by loud music or boisterous rentagobs! Highly recommended..

Visited here with my grandparents, they love it there. Absolutely appalling options for a vegan. I had to ask as not even one thing on the menu was vegan. No effort was put into my meal, it was dry and tasteless. Just a heads up for another vegan planning to go there

Our neighbour booked The Black Horse for her 80th birthday party The Sunday lunch for 10of us was faultless .The staff were attentive and helpful and the roasts were delicious.

Lovely traditional pub. Roast dinner (and pudding) were both awesome with that home cooked feel. Dogs welcome and they loved the doggie dinner. We were just visiting and were welcomed warmly by staff and clientelle. We'll definitely be back.

We love this place, once or twice a year we stay at Crowhurst and walk from there over to the pub. The food is very delicious, fresh and very good portions. Tasty and not overpriced. Excellent work Deborah and gang. Thank you and see you all next year hopefully.

The food was extremely tasty (and good size portions too!) the staff couldn't be nicer and the selection of beers was good and very reasonably priced.....plus they do a cooked dogs dinner of meat, veg and gravy which my lurcher wolfed down and loved. Held a party for daughter 15th birthday. Food excellent. Staff very friendly.

My wife had the lasagne, a bit dry with little meat. I had the gamon, not the best I've had. Reasonable prices, staff seemed to still be learning but very willing. Other people I've talked to have had good meals, perhaps was just unlucky. Will try again later in the year.

Stopped off for a quick snack at lunch time. Despite them not having mains water because of the storm a tasty plate of cheesy chips was prepared and served with bottled drinks in front of a welcoming fire. Bar staff friendly and helpful, thank you.

Absolutely cracking experience, made to feel welcome as soon as we went through the door (dog and kids). Locals made us feel welcome and the made our whole evening. Food was really good and reasonably priced as was the service. We would definitely visit again if in the area.

We were staying at the Bannatyne Spa for a couple of nights, but didn't want to pay for their very expensive and miniscule evening meals. What a revelation to find the Black Horse just a few minutes drive away! Lovely, home-cooked food, very generous portions and wonderful service. Chrissie was friendly and attentive and popular with her customers. Would definitely recommend if you're in the area. You won't be disappointed!

Such a pretty little pub what a shame it is so badly managed . Last Sunday was terribly over booked . We were seated in an inhospitable games room up stairs with other families. We all waited for over an hour for our orders. The meal was disappointing, don’t order lasagna, mine wasn’t cooked and neither was one on the other table. When we left the staff were rude when we complained, nobody attempted to apologise. We will never visit the Black Horse at Telham again.
