Black Dog Inn in Selby

Such a lovely place to go for a bite to eat. The staff are just wonderful, so polite and welcoming, they really make you feel at home. The menu had a good variety of meals and at a reasonable price. I decided on the steak and ale pie whilst my partner had the belly pork. When they came out we were very excited to get stuck in and it was delicious. Could not fault the food at all. It's in a location that's easy to get to, it's well presented and clean, there's plenty of parking available and you'd be silly not to give it a try! We'll be going back for more :)

Great restaurant, very friendly staff and owners. Food is always amazing, never had a bad meal here and the portions are big. All round great place.

Just had a party of 11 for a Sunday dinner at the Black Dog Inn. What can I say? The food was fantastic and plentiful, the service was better than perfect, an excellent place to meet friends in a warm, friendly atmosphere.

My husband had a very expensive supposed to be a fillet steak it was not !! no one can cook a fillet like that it was really tough and not very tasty, on the up side the chicken was ok

Brilliant Sunday lunch! Meat tender, gravy the best in a long time good selection of everything and portions good. Lovely staff and accommodating when part of our party was late. Some young staff members, nice to see them giving the younger ones the opportunity to work. (They were also great and friendly) very busy, but that shows how nice the food is. Nice drink selection. A little on the pricey side, but you pay for the quality.

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves with a starter, main and desert. All absolutely superb. Great choice of starters, recommend the garlic mushrooms, just the right amount of garlic and a good portion size. The wife had a huge prawn cocktail, and again, superb and the kids had yorkie puds. The main course was a carvery which turned out to be the best one we have had in years. Giant portions of meat and veg on side plates. Cooked to perfection, just like your mom or granny would do. Great selection of delicious deserts, too, for the piggy's in our family with room to spare!! Can't reccomend highly enough, staff very helpful and polite. Wish it was closer to where we live!!

First visit for Sunday lunch, both myself and my wife had a prawn cocktail to start , which was very tasty. Main course 4 meats and all the trimmings, again outstanding . Management and waitresses came to check everything was okay, service excellent. I would really recommend visiting this pub if you want a quality sundy lunch. we will definitely return in the near future 👍🏻

Had Sunday lunch here & the food was great - not a buffet but staff did ask if we required more vegetables with our meal. We had starters and were definitely full after we had eaten. Had another drink in the garden at the rear of the pub and it was lovely out there, especially as the sun was shining. Staff were friendly and overall we had a great afternoon.

You can't beat this place for Sunday roast it's fabulous. We've had many meals out in lots of different places but this place takes some beating. It's not just the Sunday roast that's great though, we've tried lots of other dishes on the menu too. Great hospitality from the hosts snd their staff, always made to feel very welcome and they check many times that everything is OK. It's a little more expensive than some places we've been to, but we feel that it's worth the extra. The quality of the food is fantastic. Don't go with a half full belly though, as it needs to be completely empty to be able to clear your plate 😄.

On our way back from a few days in Whitby and lucky for us, google Maps had diverted us back via this beauty of a pub, And as you do on a Sunday and 2 hrs left to get home, let's see if it does a Sunday lunch. The large garden area we we greeted by a lovely gentleman with his your springer spaniel, and of course Tess wanted to play. A lovely, relaxing Sunday lunch with a nice pint of Timothy Taylor and the lunch was amazing fresh vegetables, and the meats were so tender you really cannot drive past this fantastic pub and restaurant. The staff are so welcoming and helpful. Well done to you all that we met today. The owners have a fantastic team, hope to see you all again soon.

What a fantastic place to go..!! The food is outstanding, and the portions 😁😋 (don't snack before you go) lots of verity on drink as well as cocktails on tap (which the wife was loving 😍) Very pleasant and helpful staff, lots of seating inside and out, a very big outdoor area with very comfy seats (makes you not want to go home) The landlord is a very nice guy, friendly, nothing is to much trouble, and I'm sure is super proud of his establishment... Highly recommend you try this pub, I can whole heartedly say you won't be disappointed at all.. We will be back again for sure... 5* 👍 The Harrison family..

Stopped off here on our way home from Whitby what a gem of a place The food was amazing and the staff were lovely

An unexpected stop off on our way back from somewhere, we wanted a nice pub lunch, and this location exceeded our expectations. The service was welcoming and efficient, the food was really tasty and the setting was really lovely. Outdoor seating with optional parasols on a well-kept lawn in a well-kept garden. It would be fair to say it isn't cheap, but it was a nice treat, and the portions were generous without being oversized.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, couldn't fault anything. Service was prompt & friendly (even though it was extremely busy), the food was excellent & plentiful with lots of choices. The pudding menu was amazing with loads of old classics, I didn't know which to choose. Will definitely be back.

Tasteless Pork Belly and sauce, with dry mash. Odd service too. Trying to correct a misurdersranding fell on deaf ears. Would avoid.

After visiting last night for a meal with my partner we was seriously happy...Absolutely lovely food great helpful and polite staff the food was extremely good. large portions can't express how good it actually was we will definitely be going again good prices etc. Depending on what you order depends the price but 2 drinks and 2 meals cost us about 45 pounds at a guess. But worth every penny ... very clean pub 👌 perfect 5*****

Sunday lunch today in this blistering heat at The Black Dog in Camblesforth. I love reviewing pubs and restaurants and today's service has surpassed all others! The food was delicious too! We booked for 1pm but on arrival unfortunately the ladies couldn't find our booking. From a table in the bar a lovely lady - presumably the landlady called over. "Don't keep them waiting, sit them at table 31!" She then preceded to follow us over and apologised for the confusion stating it was their problem not ours!!!! Wonderful reception. We ordered drinks followed by the food. We had 1x beef platter and 1x 2 meat platter of beef and pork with all the trimmings- roasties, mash, parsnips, cauliflower cheese, carrots, peas, cabbage, French beans, sugar snap peas, Yorkshire pudding and oodles of meaty gravy. . As there was a table of 16 behind us who had just ordered we expected a wait but within 15mins our lunches arrived. Piping hot - perfect 😍 loved the touch of the hot plates too. Pudding was steaming, sticky treacle sponge with a creamy vanilla ice cream. 10* service from every member of staff we encountered. A fabulous team, 2 x lunches, pudding and 3 pints was £56. Highly recommend booking as it was so busy inside and out. I had a wander outside to take photos before the pub was inundated with guests! Team Black Dog YOU ARE AMAZING! Thank you for your wonderful food and 10* hospitality ☺

Was visiting Selby today and wanting some where to eat. After lots of failures, found this fabulous pub, servicing delicious food with quick service and a great atmosphere from the landlord and all the waitresses and bar staff. The Yorkshire puddings were fabulous as was the gravy. We will definitely be heading back here again. Thanks for accommodating us at short notice.

An absolute 5 star visit! Our first time here, and won't be our last. Our party of 8 were made to feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble for the friendly staff. We had a mixture of Sunday lunch, salmon and sea bass, and all the food was piping hot and well presented. The empty plates spoke for themselves. Puddings were large sized, and although we struggled, they were too delicious to leave. We travelled from Wakefield, so it was a trip out, but we will definitely return. Thank you Trevor and Jane for making my birthday a good un.

First time visiting the Back Dog Inn at Camblesforth Selby for Sunday lunch today.... and we will most definitely be back. Fabulous food, amazing staff. Would thoroughly recommend.

Visited Wednesday afternoon so it was quiet. Great place we were so pleased to find it and on our route home. Good menu and extremely large portions - the steak and ale pie (a real pie with a top and bottom) actually defeated my husband which is unheard of! I had a very delicious sweet and sour chicken. If we're returning from York again we will try and remember this place. It's definitely a good place to eat.

Really friendly but professional service. Really nice food. Not the cheapest but worth the money. Also a bonus is they keep the beer very well. Best to book as it is quite a busy place. One thing to remember to check is last orders for food. They begin food quite early and normally finish food orders at 8.30. Very clean and tidy . Very friendly.

I had a great time at this restaurant! The atmosphere was delightful, the food was tasty, and the service was excellent. However, I found the prices a bit on the higher side for what was offered. Overall, a positive experience. Opted for two starters as a main (duck pancakes and prawns . Then sausage and mash for the other main)

This was one of the most fabulous Christmas dinners I've ever had. The food was delicious and really well presented. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They didn't rush you even though it was a very busy time with lots of group dinners. Will definitely visit again.

After reading previous good reviews we went to the Black Dog for Sunday lunch, we were very happy we did We both chose the 2 meat option for just under £18 We received 2 full plates with plenty of quality, tasty meat, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and parsnip, one the side were dishes of mash, veg, cauliflower cheese and a gravy boat All very tasty, couldn't have asked for more

Absolutely amazing food! We went on Sunday and the staff were uper accommodating and it was a lovely atmosphere! They even had live music. We paid £72 for four adult meals and one childs meal but don't be put off by the price!

Top quality gastro pub food from this establishment. You can get cheaper meals from other pubs nearby but they won't be to this standard.

Everything about it was perfect

Stopped off on the way to whitby, just wandered in and asked if they were dog friendly and if we could eat . Very accommodating and welcoming. Little treats given to my pooch and made to feel comfortable with excellent service. We didn't know what to expect and only fancied light bites .We chose the fish sandwich. Wow ! It was amazing, a full chip shop style fish in a huge bun with fresh coleslaw, salad and a pot of tasty mushy peas. So pleased we Stopped off and set us up for the rest of the journey. Thank you!
